Speaker 1 (00:00):
Listen yesterday Captain Bo Johnson, I know you probably know
the name. You know Bo, right, he was in Panama
at one of the resorts down there. Terrible, terrible accident,
ended up on a boat, got a big marlin on
in a split second. Mate goes to wrap it in
(00:23):
the water. Twin screws. As bad a scenario as you
could possibly imagine. Yeah, leg amput one leg amputated, the
other one mauled. Cuts on the body. Just you know
Captain Bo, like if you know Captain Bo Johnson, not
surprised bow's in the water. They drag him in the boat, turniquets,
(00:45):
sheets off the beds of the big sport fish everything.
Keep this kid alive. They got like an hour, hour
and a half ride in on the boat, then they
got to run up the beach for thirty minutes. He
actually is alive, has lived. Anyway, we're going to dive
into that. We're going to talk to Jim Lucas, who
was on the boat as well. Jim and Captain Bo
(01:06):
Johnson have started an organization called Casting for Care. You know,
there's a lot of these things that happen. You think
about how many great destinations there are for sport fishing
around the world, you know. I mean, and in some
of these areas don't have great medical they're not you know,
a lot of these kids, you know, this young kid
(01:29):
doesn't have I mean, he doesn't really have anything else
to fall back on. I mean, now he's going to
have you know, I'm pretty sure. I mean they don't.
I don't think they know for sure yet, but he's
probably going to have two prosthetics, you know, because there's
probably not a great chance they're going to save the
second leg. So you know, he I mean, what's the
kid gonna do now he's not going to be probably
(01:51):
he's already talking, which is interesting to me. I talked
to Bow yesterday. He's already talking about, you know, within
eight months. He said, I want to be back on
I don't want to the pengas. He wants to be
on one of the smaller boats and still be back
on the water. So yeah, thank god he's alive for sure.
And they did this casting for care to raise some
(02:13):
money to help him out. I know, they already got
a wheelchair there. They got stuff kind of happening for
this kid. And then they're gonna kind of try to
grow this organization to help more of these types of kids,
people that are in these situations. So because there's really
nothing out there for them. You know, they live in
these in Panama. If you've ever been to Panama or
Costa Rica, you know the Zankudo Lodge if you get
(02:37):
off of the resort. I mean, it's a nice little town,
but it's not you know, there isn't a lot going
on there. Tourism and fishing and all. That's pretty important
to their industry, so you know, to how they make
a living. So anyway, it's kind of a cool story.
We put up the donation link on the show yesterday.
We'll try to get it up again today. We'll have
Dylan put it up on the Facebook live feed here
(02:59):
at real end almost today so people can get involved.
So we're going to talk to Jim Lucas about that story.
Weather today, I know we have a small craft advisory
is supposed to be in place until this afternoon. Looks
like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, it's going to come down and
be a little more decent. Thursday it ramps up again.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Special I'm with our buddy Brett Norris on Thursday.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Well, it was better this morning than it was yesterday
morning it was like eighteen eighteen to twenty one is
what they were calling for Thursday. This morning it was
twenty to twenty five yesterday. So it's coming down a little.
If that, maybe we'll just go to an aquarium. I'm
pretty good at aquarium fishing, right, Yeah, it's better touch breezy,
(03:46):
and again today we got a small craft advisory. It
blue pretty hard all day yesterday, blue hard Friday. So
you know, water's going to be a little dirty. I
know the water is, the tides are brutal. The water's
not coming in good with this, you know, east northeast
wind keeping it out, so the tides are having trouble
catching up. The guys I talked to that fish yesterday
(04:08):
said it was really low, really low. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I can't even imagine being out there. I guess you
could hide on some shoreline, but get into that shoreline.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
It's going to be tough. Yeah, it's just a tough.
And again it comes down for Monday afternoon trip for
me on Monday, So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday look like your
best window right now. Thursday is starts the questionable weather again.
So if you're headed out there today, find someplace to
tuck in. Hopefully you're in the inner coastal or Apollo
(04:40):
Beach or downtown Tampa or somewhere where you can kind
of stay protected.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Well, you know, even when you get on those shorelines
that are flat because you're right up against where the
wind's coming from. It's the casting.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, it's tough, you know.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, you almost have to and tis a pay how
much wind is gonna push it, which course puts the
lure in the bushes? Yes, and it's better tied another one.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
On exactly can get a little tough. So that's your
weather update. Brought to you by our good friends at
Reese Windows and Doors. You know their Florida's leading window

com for more information. Phone lines are open here one
eighty eight five four six four six, twenty of your
questions comments Fish Reports. We ended up down that trail
a little bit yesterday with just you know, you've spent
(05:51):
quite a bit of time on some of these big boats,
and it was funny when I was I saw the
post by Bo Johnson about what they had gone through
on this sport fish.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Thinking about it.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, so I called Bo right or I tried to
reach out. I reached out on the Facebook post. I'm like, hey,
you know, call me, this is interesting. We should you know,
will help you get this out on the radio. And
uh so I ended up Bo calls me a couple
hours later and we ended up chatting about it, and
he ran me through the whole story. Obviously very emotional.
It just happened not long ago here, so it's still
(06:29):
pretty fresh. But a couple of things that stood out
to me was that the paramedics were extremely impressed that
Bo's tourniquet held. I mean that long a time. He
should have He probably should have led out.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
That's not even something. And I've been in a not
in the same situation, but I've been in a situation
where I had to go in the water right for
somebody and it wasn't good. You know, that's not something
you can plan right well. But Bo truly is a
hero when you think about that, because it's a reaction reaction,
(07:10):
and that's exactly I can put myself in that place
in the scenario I was in, and it's not something
I even had a paramedic I think when I went
through what I did, and he came up to me
and thanked me, and I go, what are you thanking
me for? And he goes, you don't know how many
people would have stood there and watched the very few
(07:32):
people jump in and hats off to bow.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah, and here's here's the crazy part of that. So
Bo tells me the story and he said that when
they got done, Bo couldn't figure out why he was
all wet and they were like, Bo, you were in
(07:57):
the water. BO was like, what are you talking about?
I wasn't in the water, Like, oh no, Like he
went in and you went in right after him. So
it happened. And talking with Jim Lucas yesterday on the
Bartell Ford Show on nine seventy, it all went down
to like seven seconds. So he's in the water and
(08:18):
that's how quick they had him out of the water.
He goes seven to ten seconds Bo was in the water.
They had him out of the water on the deck
just like that. I mean, dude, it happens really really quick.
But so what we were talking about, Bo was like, hey,
you know, I need first aid kids, I need everything.
They get this kid and what's left of him back
on the boat, and you know, they're they're bringing this little, corny,
(08:41):
little Walmart first aid kit out because you're not prepared.
I mean, think about it, and that let us down yesterday.
I don't know the proper way to put a turn
of kit on, do you No? I don't. I mean
I wouldn't again in my brain. I mean, you know,
if I'm wearing a belt, I could, like I think
I could whip one up, but I don't know where
(09:02):
does it go? How tight do you want it? What's good,
what's bad? I don't have a clue. You know. Luckily
Bo knew some of this stuff. Ended up taking off
his own shirt, tying it up, and then screaming for
people to get the sheets and everything off the beds
because obviously they got a you know, they got blood
going everywhere, total chaos. Imagine the chaos in that situation.
(09:24):
And then the kid lives, you know, and and boat
right well, and Bo said, he said, And every time
Bo mentioned it to me, you could tell he was
getting a little choked up. The kid comes too at
the hospital and the first thing he does is apologize
that they didn't get the fish. Seriously, dude, I mean,
(09:45):
that's it's pretty uh, it's crazy. Yeah, So we're going
to talk to Jim Lucas probably around eight o'clock this morning.
He lives out in Texas, so we're gonna we're gonna
talk to him and get you guys. I made a
donation yesterday to the to the kid and the Casting
for Care. I think it's going to be a great organization.
It's got great people behind it, and it's stuff you
(10:05):
just don't think about well, and you know.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
It goes into just off that subject, but about safety gear,
and it's the same thing. You know, Jim Fogel comes
on here and tells us different things that would help us.
I'm in the store and somebody always asks me, you know, hey,
what's a coastguard make you have?
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Right?
Speaker 2 (10:26):
And I said, the least minimum to keep you alive.
And it's just like you were talking about with that
first aid kit.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, you can look at the first aid kit and
some of them are a thousand bucks, some of them
are seven hundred, and some of them are sixty nine
dollars and forty nine dollars. Well that the law may
only require you to have any of them, but when
you're out there in that situation, and that's why I carry.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
A life raft.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, you know, well that you know, the Coastguard requires
you to have these cheap life jackets. Is a recreational fisherman, right, Okay,
flares and this and that, Well, that boat I mean
starts taking on water, it happens quick, it turns, it flips,
the bows up. Before you know it, you're in the
water with a twenty dollars life jacket keeping you alive. Now,
(11:17):
I'm I'm okay with that because it's better than nothing.
But when I go on a boat, I'm not gonna
do that. Yeah, I'm getting in a raft. Right, We're
not gonna have shark week right there. You know what
I mean. I will never have the minimum yeah, never, you.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Know, Yeah, I'm with you, listen, I'm with you. I'm
with you.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Life it's worth more than that.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Even you know, Bo was saying, you know that, you know,
he didn't have his he didn't have his normal stuff
with him for some reason to where and I don't
know if it's starlink or what it is, but he
has something that he can communicate. You know, there's no
way to really like send a text home. Hey, you know,
let the lodge know we're coming in hot to the beach.
(12:04):
Blah blah blah. I mean, I don't I don't know
what all went down. I don't know. I know, I
know the boats I've been on out of Costa Rica,
just north of where they were out of have radios
and they talk back and forth. So but you know,
(12:25):
is there somebody manning it back at the lodge, I
don't know, you know, I mean, I don't know if
they expect to get a phone call like that, you
know what I mean, or or a call across the
radio that hey, we're we're coming in hot to the beach.
And it can't it can't take that big boat all
the way to the beach. They had to get him
from the big boat to the small boat, to the beach,
(12:47):
to the ambulance, you know, to town and then to
the real town.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
That's a lot before you get into a doctor, a lot.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
For him to live through all that is just a
crazy crazy you know, it's a miracle, and it lends
it lends me to believe that you know, that kid
has a bigger purpose here, you know, you know, so
just interesting stuff for sure. So talking fishing here. Captain
Mike Anderson, Mike Mahoney from Team Mahoney Company, Captain Big
(13:16):
Ben Marshall is in Georgia doing the Georgia thing as

Probably sitting in a tree somewhere. It's all good.
Speaker 2 (13:31):

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Yeah, probably, Yeah, it's gonna be a late one, but
it's gonna be worth it. He Every Saturday morning he
texts me all the these pictures from his Friday Night
trip and it's it's insanity unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
And has been for many, many.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah, many years. He's super knowledgeable. He was just it's
really interesting on the show yesterday talking about different lures
and different tactics he uses in the lights to get
the fish to eat. It's just really really interesting. So
it'll be a great one. We got listen. Great food, ice,
cool beer, you know, great atmosphere. So occ Roadhouse this Tuesday,
(15:30):
October twenty eight, seven to nine pm, The Mad Snooker
Dave Pomelou. You don't want to miss that. It's going
to be fantastic. I also want to put a shout
out to our good friend Nick at dropout cast Nets.
The bait is crazy, crazy, plentiful right now. Water TIMPs
are perfect kingfisher on the beach, big snooker in the rivers.
I mean, everything is happening. The key to it all
(15:52):
is having that right bait, and in my opinion, the
dropout cast nets are the best production line nets on
the market right now. There isn't even really a lot
of custom nets available anymore, which is too bad, kind
of a dying art. But now the key is going
to be to find that production line net that really
kind of lives up to the billing of those you know,
(16:17):
commercial grade nets that were out there for a while,
those you know, handmade nets. So I think Nick's doing
a great job at dropout cast nets are available a team,
a Honey company, and other local retailers, so make sure
you ask for dropout cast nets. Baits everywhere. It's unbelievable.
That's nice. Well, and I'll tell you that the fishing
(16:37):
has been really, really good. I got great report yesterday
from eighteen foot of water on the beach was all
of the big Spanish macer you wanted, a ton.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Of kingfish, fish, some.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Sharks, I mean, just the normal beach activity when the
bait gets heavy out there, and that's what you're looking at.
The baits heavy. There's kingfish everywhere, there's I mean, and
the water tip's still a little high for the kingfish
to be really at peak. I mean that seventy two
degree mark is kind of they're really really happy place,
and it's still you know, seventy eight seventy seven, you know,
(17:11):
sometimes close to eighty depending on how far you get
off shore. So we're not even hopefully to the peak
of it. Yet I just hope the wind doesn't screw
us up. A lot of times that water will get dirty.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Kingfish and wind they kind of go hand.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
They do, but an extended windy period can dirty up
the beach. Right now, it's been out of the east,
so it hasn't been an issue. A beach will stay clean.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Perfect place to beach, it's perfect place to be perfectly.
Getting through the past may be a little bumpy, but.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Well, and you know, was it last week? I can't
remember if it was last week. The week before I
tried to start. I stuck my nose out there because
the beach was good. So I went to the drop
fished out there a little bit. We had a couple
of macrol wasn't too good that I thought, Man, I'm
going to push out a little further. It's pretty calm
right here that east wind. You know. We got out
there towards five miles and I was like, Okay, that's
(18:00):
about as far as we're.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Going to stretch the it's turnout out.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Yeah. Yeah. Well, we went out there and fish for
a while. We had a couple of cutoffs, and again
we caught a couple of gags on the hard bottom
out there and you know, but not one.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Of my best days. Kingfish and I went with a
guy out of John's Pass. And remember the disclosure, because
I don't know if all this is one hundred percent legal,
so this is all entertainment. But because we caught we
caught mackerel and put them out right, which I don't
know if you're really allowed to do, but let's just
(18:32):
say this is a little story I'm making up. We'd
catch a mackerel, put it out on a kingfish frigg
and boom, thirty five pounder instant. So not even putting
them in a well or a tube where you have
to to keep them alive, the bigger ones when they're
in there, and I think stone crab seasons here, ye,
(18:53):
so usually that crab trap line, and that's exactly what
we were trolling that day.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
We're going to set them up the hard bottle, yep.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
And they're going to set them there and it's going
to be a chum slick sure from all their baits.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Right.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
The main thing when you're out there, don't just go
to a line of crab traps and start trolling it.
And we've got a lot of grouper that way. Too.
Always look at what side and where that line's coming
off that trap. You don't want to hang them. It's
easy not to. All you got to do is look
at one and figure out which way that current and
(19:28):
wind is pushing that line, and you go to the
other side and stay off of it some and you'll
be fine. And probably some of the best places. Now,
it does happen when you're fishing that way, that kingfish
or mackerel can run you around one of those. Sure
those balls, but do those crabbers a favor, and don't
just break that off. Go get it. I don't care
(19:51):
what you got to do, but get the hook off
the lines. They're not pulling it in. And we're hearing
some story about that.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. But kingfishing it is happening.
If you've got questions, how to, where to, when to
all that good stuff, we're here for you. One eighty
eight five four six four six twenty. Everybody kind of
enjoying the cooler weather here this morning, just kind of chilling,
so uh as you wake up, give us a call.

Five four?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Thank you? There you go. I'm looking at the clock
and getting old. Let's uh, let's go to Kevin with
the US Coast Guard. Kevin, how are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Good morning, Mike and Mike. I'm doing well. Jomy, Hey, Mike.
Listening to your conversations brought back something not so pleasant memories,
but a couple of things I just would like to
talk about in this I don't think Jim's talking about
this today. I think guys and girls going fishing just
(21:42):
should take a minute to look around and reduce risk.
Whether it's wearing boots instead of flip flops, you know,
having gloves, even where you're stow your knives and where
you put a gaff right after you catch that fish.
Because you know, you talked about real chaos, but be
chaos at a different level that could lead to you know, accidents,
(22:04):
and you know, you can get an ambulance on the
land pretty quick, but the Coastguard has one crew, one
ready helicopter for the Everglades to the Panhandle. So we
go and help a lot of people. But if somebody's
in big trouble and that happened ten minutes before I
(22:28):
get in trouble, you know there's going to be a
time frame that you're going to be, you know, on
your own or looking at boats helping you instead of
aircraft getting to you. And depending on where you are,
that's just the function of time, right And you know,
I've also seen cases where people have fallen overboard and
(22:48):
they can't get back on the boat because they might
be big, they might not be big, but they've never
rigged the line to use as a ladder, or they
don't have any kind of dive ladder or a platform
that somebody can get on right, and you know, if
it's rough and you can be physically fit as hell,
it still can be an ordeal to get back on
(23:10):
a boat.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Well, and I'll tell you what else. You're starting to
come into that time of year where if that water's cold,
that changes your energy level completely too. I mean you'll
get you know, you can get tired a lot quicker
in that ice cold water. I think then if you're
you know what I mean, there's a lot of variables
that go into that. So, like you say, even if
you're in shape and you're pretty strong, pulling yourself up
(23:32):
onto a boat, well, that's not easy to do, and
it gets harder and harder. I think when that colder,
that water gets.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Yeah, if the boat's anchored and you're drifting away by
the time they get to you, your coordination factor, you know,
you're not going to function like you did on a
you know, on a day like today. A couple of
months from now, it will be different.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
The other thing I wanted to bring up, I know
a lot of people hunting right now, and hunting can
be remote too, So if you have a PLV, you
should bring it. People have fallen out of tree stands
and if they didn't have a PLB, no one was
going to know about it for a while. I also
had a friend's daughter who the tree stand gave, you know,
(24:13):
gave away, and she fell eight feet right through the
stands ladder wood ladder going up to it. And she's
lucky that she didn't get tore up. You know, a
lot to go the stainless steel screws holding wood. And
then the other thing. I was fishing and the macro
and hogfish were cooperating, and there was only two of
(24:35):
us on the boat, and everything was good, and we
were tending to fishing looking aft and I had some
I don't know what I should use as a word,
but I had a nice boat. It was a go
fast sort of the Kingfish looking boat buzzed by me
at like fifty feet at plus thirty knots. I mean
I was only seven miles off the beach, but I
(24:57):
mean I could have hit them. Went to baseball. I
just don't understand that one thing goes wrong you're autopilot,
your hydraulic steering, I mean, it would have been a disaster,
and I just don't I just don't get like that.
I think people should just be aware something goes wrong.
I think about your behavior and avoid an emergency situation
(25:21):
whenever possible.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Well, and think about appreciate it, think about what we're
dealing with just on the interstates nowadays, right, you know
what I mean? And listen. I'm admittedly the heavy footed guy,
like I'm a seventy seventy plus mile an hour guy
I am. I like the pass lane. I like to
be moving. There's people that blow by me like I'm
(25:45):
standing still in these little bitty vehicles. Dude, when they Dude,
when they when I think to myself every time, I'm like,
you hit something and that little bitty thing, Dude, you're
going to disintegrate. Not only that, but you don't showing
total disregard for everybody else on the road, like no.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
More important than you will.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
I don't realize, I guess, I guess not. I guess not.
I mean, I can't see it on the water, and
you see it, you know, in your day to day
life just driving around the streets.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Hey, hey, Kevin, I got a question for you, buddy.
Now that you're retired from the Coastguard, do you have
some kind of sticker or something on your boat that
tells them not to check you because you're retired.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I could get one.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Yeah, I'm wanting to go fishing to Mike.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
I only they only give you two of those.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Oh, and I'm not getting one of them. Maybe I
go fishing.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
I didn't say that much. And there's one thing I forgot.
But this might be applyed to a lot of people.
When someone's grounded the boat inadvertently, or they're at a
sandbar doing what I wouldn't do at a sandbar, and
now they're boat stuck. If there's people into water pushing
your boat or pulling your boat, and you're using propulsion
(26:59):
to try to help those people, that is a recipe
for disaster. Either have the engine often people in the water,
or have the people in the boat or on another
boat when you're trying to power your way out because
one slip and we have another disaster. The only thing, Yeah,
(27:19):
at least you'd be close to help if you're on
a sandbar usually, but you know, people fish distances and
distance takes time, and horrible things, you know, affect a
lot of people, and you don't want them to affect
anyone in your family or friends, and you just take
some precautions, even eyeglasses. You know, a hook coming out
(27:41):
of a fish, whether it's on a heavy jig or not,
when that comes flying back, you know, things can happen,
So just be careful. And I appreciate what you guys do.
And I really really appreciate all the help that Jimmy
Fogel has done over the years for the Coastguard and
for your listeners, No.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Doubt about it. We're with you there, man, Kevin, Thanks
for listing, buddy, Appreciate.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
You, Bye, guys, and thanks for what you do.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
You bet, you bet you that's our gig right there.
Trying to just spread a little light. Man. We had
Tom Ferrell on the UH on the live Facebook feed
at Real Animals Fishing Show. He said, there are stop
the bleed training classes available everywhere, mountain Man medical cells,
all gear, and there are waterproof dry bag kits available
(28:27):
to So that's the kind of stuff. Boy. It's just
you don't think about.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Well, if you're ready for all that, If you're ready
for it, you're less likely something's going to happen. It's
almost like when you go to the keys, right, you
take two hubs and two spare tires and you never
need them, right, but don't make a trip down there
without them one day and you're you're rolling the dice.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, there's no doubt and there's nothing worse. So, speaking
of the Florida Keys, let's check in real quick with
the Florida Keys cat Mike Perry.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Michael is getting weird. I've seen some videos. Holy cow,
you dressed up down there, Mike.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
No.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
I flew back from from up a few guys down
during the night time with my buddy's, you know, playing
charter service and little tip to everybody, best night to
fly into the Keys because everybody's in Key West and
roads are empty getting except down in the Key West
and everything. And from what I understand, there were no survivors.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
There were no survivors.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
It was scary. I don't want to get political or nothing,
but I can people being confused, right, yes, good guy
or girl, But when you are confused, if you're an
animal or not. I couldn't believe the videos I saw.
That is a total weirdo parade. That's just nothing but weirdos.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
The Saturday Night, the last one is was out of doubt.
If you could just like you don't drink, but if
you could just hold yourself to just a couple drinks
and sit there during that whole parade and remember what
you saw. You'll have stories from months.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
But you know.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
There's things is you know just I don't know. Seventy
years old don't look good to me. I'm sixty. I
keep myself covered, okay, but it don't look good to me.
I would have to take a shower.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
After I viewed.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
That I did last night, I'm watching on video and
felt like I need to go take a shower and
get cleaned up. Maybe bite into a bar so clean
my mouth up.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Yeah, why do you think I get out of here
for that week?
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Man?
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Runt out my house and make a little money.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
I get away.
Speaker 7 (30:46):
I wouldn't want to go into your house or a
black light. I'll bet you that black light and light
up some bio hazards.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
I don't need to hear all that come on. But
yesterday I that offer I made if anybody needs training
put together a good first day kid. I got nine
calls within like fifteen call right after I hung up,
(31:16):
So I'll be willing to help. I'm gonna do a video,
live video on how to put together the things that
I believe you need from the actual box or bag
to carrying in all the way through everything, and I
can help get discounts on anything that people need. So
in training, like the previous college said, there is there
(31:39):
is free training all over.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
You know, if you.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Hire somebody, have somebody come to your house and you
do a bunch of captains and mates and stuff, they'll
do it for free. Maybe you throw them a little
tip for doing that for free for you. But a
little bit of training, like I said yesterday, some good
training and the right equipment, knowing.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
How to use it, you'll save life.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
And I promise you it will come in handy the
one time you don't think it will, it'll revert in
your mind. And all the years I've been a nurse,
thirty six years ago I was, I went to nursing school.
I don't remember everything till something happens and it kicks
on in my brain and I know exactly what to
(32:22):
do and how.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
To do it.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Yeah, yeah, well, you know it's it's been. It's a
tragic story. You know. There's a great opportunity for people
to do something good here and make a donation to
Casting for Care. And then there's there's another flip side
to it where we can all learn something from this
and be better prepared in our own world and happen.
(32:44):
I know Jim Fogel and I and Dylan have been
talking about putting together a class. I'm not sure where
I'll end up. I'm sure Jim will bring it up today.
But just putting together a tourniquet class, I mean, I
don't even know how to apply it a toniquet the
right way. I mean, so just to get that kind
of tourniquet class. It's supposedly like forty five minute class,
(33:06):
and we're going to try to put one together and
invite a bunch of the captains in the Bay area.
The FGA Florida Guide Association is going to be behind it.
And you know, I think it's a good idea. I
just think it's a good idea. So I see the
more people we got, and like I said yesterday, you know,
we're talking about it being something that happens on the water.
But I could leave here today, I'm going across the
(33:28):
Howard Franklin to go home, and you could be the
first one on a scene of an accident where you
need to use it. It may not be on the water.
As a matter of fact, even if you're a charter captain,
there's probably a better chance you could use it somewhere else.
We're in the woods all the time, we're at the
boat ramp, you're on the highway, you're you know, some
kid gets hurt riding his bike out in front of
your place. You don't even know when you know, something
(33:50):
like that should just be something you should know. And again,
you made that, good Lord willing you never ever got. Yeah,
you never have to use it, think about it. Yeah,
good Lord, Please don't ever let me have to use
that training. But if you need it, it could come
in really handy for someone, maybe someone you know, or
maybe someone you know that you love. Maybe it's one
(34:13):
of a family member you just don't know exactly.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
Well, I wanted to get back on here, and like
I said, I was shocked and not surprised, but it
was nice to hear from all those people, the people
that listen. And I'm going to do a video of
how to put together a good kid from from a
captain slash nurses point of view, and you can follow
my tips. You don't have to follow my tips. It's
(34:37):
just something that's going to be free and put out there.
Love it and maybe it'll help. Maybe it'll help. But
help has been good when we can get out by
the way, the wind.
Speaker 8 (34:47):
Has kept us off the water.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
Yeah, we're going out to We're going out today. It's
the wind is laid down a little bit. We're going
to try it.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Good luck, good luck, catch them up. Be careful, ever,
know what you'll find floating around that place.
Speaker 5 (35:03):
Oh yeah, I'm not going towards Key West. I'm gonna
run north, all right, but I'm not gonna not seeing
stragglers floating out.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Be safe, all right, guys, All right, cap I.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
Think it was all Turningians on the video down in
Key West, but they didn't look like they were stopping
to blieve exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
I don't know how much time we got left here
in this block, but let's check in with buccaneer John.
Maybe he's got a.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
Uh yeah, Buccaneers tip for us.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yeah, buccaneer, what's your prediction there, Buccaneer John for today's
game Buccaneers thirty. I like it. I got Baker Mayfield
on my fantasy team, so I hope you're right that
would work.
Speaker 9 (35:52):
He's a great maveler.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Yes, he is. He's a great. Yeah, he's got a
great personality. He's a he's a he's a fine. He's
a dog, got some dog in him. Yeah, he's got
some dog in him. I like him. I like him
a lot. So we're lucky to have. We're lucky to have. Yeah,
it's all good stuff. He stirred the pot a little
(36:14):
bit this week by talking smack about not being a
big fan of New Orleans, so it's, uh, it ought
to be interesting. I like it. Oh yeah, good stuff. Well,
we appreciate you listening, buccaneer John. Great prediction. I hope
you're right, buddy. I'll be thinking about you if it's
thirty four and I'll be like buccaneer John called it.
You're the man, all right, buddy, it's stuff, buccaneer John siding.
(36:38):
I thought that only happened on the big time shows
like The Pat and Aaron Shyeah.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
I don't know what happened there. Yeah, Chris crosses Over
and Pat Donovan big time.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah, that's yeah, that's that's primetime stuff. That's weekend schmucks.
We don't normally get that. I love yeah, yeah, the
scrob Yeah. Buccaneer John Sunday morning. Nobody's away. Let's help
about the fishermen. Yeah, I wonder. I don't even know
what time the Bucks play today and the Packers play late?
(37:08):
What time the Bucks play today, Derek, Derek o'lock, they
get the four o'clock that's great. That's perfect, dude, after
I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
That's perfect because that's a wild crowd at four o'clock.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Four o'clock game rolling into Monday night or Sunday night
football with the Packers Steelers. That's phenomenal, uninterrupted. Normally I'm
bouncing back and forth. I got to bounce between games
to see what's going on. But then you just streamlined
today streamlined, get the tragger going. Life's good sounds like fun.
What time, sir? What do you want to come by?
Speaker 2 (37:43):
I might come by. You can come by my.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Life tell me anytime, but always knows who we are,
no costumes.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
My life's out of town. Me and the dog, and
the dog's tired of me messing with it.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
I bet the dog is tired.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
I actually have figured out this week how long how
far I can push it before she bite, so I.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Know all that.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
That's good to know your dog.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Paula left for a week she left supervised.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Well, I went hunting, and then as soon as I
came back, she took off to see her dad up
in Connecticut and her family up there. So she's up
there until tuesday. Okay, yeah, that's what she wants.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
So she could have gone while you were gone, but
she was smart.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Just oh yeah, I couldn't get a flight until you
come back. That way, I'll get me a two week break, exactly.
I don't know what I'd do without her, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Man.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Or sometimes I'm sitting there and I don I don't
have any dinner, and I'm thinking, where's dinner. Well, if
she's not here, you better go find some.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Create your own meals. Yeah yeah, And.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
I'm not one to be able to cook a full meal,
you know. I started eating right away. So it's a
one course meal with me, and if you want a
second course, it's more of the same the first course.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
Exactly. That's funny. We're got to talk to Jim Lucas.
We talked to him yesterday. Uh. He was involved in
an incident down there in Panama where one of the
mates got pulled in the water. Twin screws, big sport
fish uh On, you know bad injuries. We're going to
talk to him. They started a new organization called Casting
(39:20):
for Care. We're going to try to get you guys
some insight onto what happened in this incident and how
you guys can get involved and help. Phone lines are
open here one eighty eight, five four six, four, six twenty.
We've also got Donald and Lutz coming up on the
other side. Hopefully we'll hear from you as well. The
team of Honey Company Real Animals Radio show. We'll be back.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
A little Biggie this.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Love that you look so happy?
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Come a lot.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
With over forty three years a trial experience in the courtroom,
Butler and Boyd treat all their clients with individual respects.
Some law firms gloat about their dollar amounts and case wins.
There's a more. There's more to representation than just a
favorable verdict. Butler and Boyd wants to make the experience
as painless as possible. Butler and Boyd Personal Injury and
Wrong for Death attorneys you can trust. Call eight one, three, two, two,
(40:25):
nine thirty two thirty two. Check them out online at
Butler Boyd dot com. Great great people over there. Butler
and boyd been with us a long time, going to
be with us for the foreseeable future. God bless them,
good people.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Keep us out of jail.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Yeah, keep us out of trouble, there's no doubt. Let's
go to the phone lines here. Phone lines are open
one eight eight eight five four six four six twenty.
Let's slide into chat with Donald and Lutes.
Speaker 10 (40:50):
Donald, what's up, buddy, Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
Hey.
Speaker 10 (40:54):
Yeah, it's still a tragic story about yesterday that.
Speaker 11 (40:57):
That young man down there and crazy went to that
web donating, donated some money because I always think about myself.
You know a lot of times I'm out by myself
and the kayak. Yeah, and it's usually body around and
you never know anything could happen. And like you know,
Jim Fogel talks about, you know, the VHF radios. I've
(41:17):
got that one that's got the button that goes right
to the coast guard. You press that because it's a
GPS handheld, so it's you know, it's great to have those,
you know, for one hundred and fifty dollars are so
worth it. I don't don't want everybody that's paddle border kayaker,
(41:37):
small vessel boat doesn't have one of those. Just makes
no sense.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
I get it.
Speaker 10 (41:46):
It's like nothing, you know, compared to what could happen.
So true, that's that's my listen. I donated yesterday and
it's like, oh absolutely my pleasure and anything help out
talked about yesterday are our fishing community is the best
type of community there is.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
That's true, no doubt they step up. Well, there's no
doubt about it, no doubt about it.
Speaker 10 (42:13):
Hey, me and Liz is going to be there on
Tuesday night, looking forward to Uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
The Mad Snooker is a great, great speaker. That's this
Tuesday Night occ Roadhouse, Real Animals Fishing Conversation seven to
nine pm. Trust me, get the hog wings. They're excellent.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
Oh yeah, sure, I haven't had anything there yet.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
I haven't eyn. Everything's so good. Steak tacos are excellent.
They have just good food, cold beer. It's all good
at Roadhouse. Yeah, exactly, good stuff. Well, we'll see you
on Tuesday night. Donald. We appreciate your brother.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Great call.
Speaker 12 (42:54):
Donald, They appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Mike.
Speaker 10 (42:57):
Well you guys take care, stay saving tight lines.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Thanks by good stuff. There as promised, we are going
to go to the phone lines here and talk with
Jim Lucas, who is coming to us from Texas. We've
been talking again this morning about this crazy tragedy that
happens in Panama, at a resort in Panama. Jim, how
(43:21):
are you this morning? Dealing great?
Speaker 13 (43:23):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (43:25):
We're good, Yeah, good. I appreciate you joining us. I
kind of jumped on this thing, you know, right there
at the seven o'clock hour when we came in. Just
there's so many sides to this. We've been talking about,
you know, safety equipment and trying to you know, get
people to think ahead, you know. And again I spent
(43:46):
some time yesterday after the show. I talked to Bo
Captain Bo Johnson a little bit bow and Jim. Jim
Lucas here joining us from Texas. We're on a vessel
in Panama, big sport fish, big bill fish on the line.
They go to wrap the leader. You know, things go wrong,
mate ends up in the water, twin screw boat, you know,
(44:12):
terrible loss of a limb and possibly another limb, and
you know, get the mate back in the in the
boat and the scramble to save this kid and all that.
I can't even imagine. Jim, what this chaos was like
kind of give us a little bit of a breakdown
from your standpoint of of what it you know, what
it was like, and what all you think we can
(44:32):
learn from it, and then let's talk about the ways
people can help.
Speaker 13 (44:37):
I appreciate it very much. Well, you know, I think
the biggest lesson that came for me. And I also
want to thank you guys, Hat, Mike and everybody else
listening who donated yesterday. We had a you know, nice contribution,
and I really appreciate you guys helping us. But you know,
I think for me, it just showed how fast life
can change. And I mean I said yesterday, you know,
(45:00):
from the time the mate went overboard to the time
we got him back in the boat with catastrophic injuries,
it was about seven seconds. And I can tell you
is forever change. Every single person that was on that boat,
including you know, Bo Johnson. You know we talked about this,
yes that I heard your caller before talking about the
safety gear. I can't tell you, you know how much
(45:23):
you know stress just having all the right stuff and
the backups and make sure you can communicate with the shore.
Yes on this Panama trip, who were so far offshore.
All they had was the VHF and we couldn't even
contact the lodge for twenty thirty minutes. So you know,
once we got in contact with them, they were able
(45:43):
to give us some instructions and you know, some things
to do that would you know, hopefully preserve his life,
which he did. But man, that's a scary feeling being
out there and not having any contact with the outside
world or proper medical gear on board to even do
it's simplest of things like turniquits and things like that.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Yeah, that's the part that to me just seems crazy.
You would think them big sport fish would have, you know,
a closet full of safety equipment, and again it's just
you just never know, you know, I mean, it's just
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (46:21):
Ye.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
Well, and we were talking, we were talking a bunch,
you know, we're already talking about trying to put together
a class with Captain Jim Fogel, our US Coast Guard
auxiliary captain who calls him with safe boating tips on
both shows every week. You know, we've already talked to
him about putting together a course for the captains, you know,
just an evening where we could all get together at
you know, some place and have someone teach us the
(46:44):
right way to do a tourniquet. I don't even know,
you know what I mean. I mean, you know, and
I'm a hunter and a fisherman, and you know I've
got kids, and you know you're at the ballpark at
all these places, and at any given moment something could
happen bad and you need to react. Yeah, I mean again,
(47:05):
I guess we just everybody you get stuck in that
mode where you think it's not going to happen to me,
but you just never know.
Speaker 13 (47:12):
You know, I couldn't agree with you more. And you
know I do have a little small video production company.
If you guys get that going, you know, we'll donate,
you know, putting this thing together for you if you
need it, Mike, and then you know, we could get
it posted all over the place. But I couldn't agree
with you more. I mean, so many people, especially East
coast of Florida, which I spend a lot of time on,
(47:32):
is you know, so many young guys and inexperienced people
run across to the Bahamas and you know, you think
it's fifty miles and nothing's going to happen. But man,
things gonna happen quickly out there.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
Yeah, like you said, I mean, you're you know, one
minute you're you're in the extreme joyful chaos of fighting
a big marlin, and the next minute, you know, you're
trying to get somebody back in the boat. I mean literally,
in the blink of an eye, your whole day has changed. Yeah,
and now you know, you you have this young man's
(48:07):
life is basically in your hands. I mean, if he
you know, you could, you could do things, which obviously
you guys did and and you know, thank God for
I've known Bo Johnson for a long time and there's
very few guys if all hell breaks loose, I'd rather
be with than Bo Johnson. But with that being said,
I mean, that's that's time on the water. And like
(48:29):
he said yesterday when I talked to him, he's been
through some stuff, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
he's been through some crazy stuff that you know, there's
just a there's just a time and a place when
you can't panic. You got to get things going, and
you know, I mean, yeah, it's just, uh, it's mind
blowing to me. So talk about what you guys put
(48:50):
together to try to help this family and UH and
how people We're gonna have it up here on our
UH live feed again today will get uh Dylan will
post it up for us and it's on the It's
on the post from the show yesterday on Real Animals
and Hubbard's Marine a Facebook page so people can go
there and and get linked to Casting for Care. Talk
(49:13):
a little bit about putting that together and how people
can help and what you guys are trying to accomplish.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (49:19):
Absolutely, So you know this young man, I mean, you know,
these guys have no insurance anything like that. I mean
they're making you know, five hundred dollars a month. So
you know, when this guy was in the hospital for
a week or so going through the imputation and all
the other things. I mean, his his medical bills exceeded
one hundred and fifty thousand, like nothing. And you know,
(49:41):
our main goal is not only to try to you know,
get his house back up and go and so he
can have some ramps and the doors are wide enough.
We already provided him, you know, with a wheelchair that
will help him get through that. You know, the terrain
in this area of the world. So we put together
this thing called Casting for Care and the website is
casting the number four care dot org. You can go
(50:04):
on here. You can donate five dollars if that's you
know what you have. Every dollar matters. And you know,
since we've gotten such great coverage on this, our intention
is there on the website is a place to apply
if you've gotten hurt in some type of offshore freak accident.
If we have the the available means to help you,
we're going to do it. We want to, you know,
be there for you know, anybody who gets hurt and
(50:27):
you know needs a break. You know that this young man,
I mean his dream was to be a captain and
still wants to do it. So you know, we we are,
you know, get set on getting him some prosthetics and
things that you know, you know you can possibly make
that dream continuum. He's lucky to be alive. It's you know,
to still have the ambition to do something like that. Man,
(50:47):
it's super motivating.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
Yeah. Bo. When I talked to Bo yesterday, both said,
can you imagine you're laying in bed, you know for
sure you lost the one leg, probably going to lose
your other leg, and the first thing that comes out
of your mouth is I'm sorry we lost the fish. Seriously,
that's crazy, bro. But I mean, you know we've all
met I mean, if you're around the fishing business for
(51:11):
any length of time, you've all met those people that
are just so into it and so they care so
deeply about, you know, fishing, that that's the that's their life.
That's like you said, it's his livelihood, it's it's his passion.
Both said he was trying to talk to somebody in
the organization about, well, you know, about eight months, I'll
be back and I can I can guide on the
(51:33):
panga boats instead of the big boats. What is It's like, dude,
he's trying to figure out how he can get his
butt back on that boat. And I'm sure some of
that is driven by the fact that, well, you live
in Panama, there isn't you know. It's like I've spent
a lot of time in Costa Rica and it's the
same scenario. You know, the jobs on those resorts in
(51:55):
some of those little towns, those little jungle towns, if
for lack of a term to call him, I mean
they're in the middle of nowhere. There isn't a lot
of great work. Some of the best work in that
area is on those boats. I mean, that's how you're
guaranteed to make a living. Those those resorts are constantly
full of people from all over the world spending money.
(52:16):
You know, the guy that owns the resort is now
helping you take care of your family and providing for you,
and you know, just I mean, those jobs are precious
to those people, and he's just trying to figure out
how to stay in the in the loop, you know, yeah, yep, exactly.
So it's crazy.
Speaker 13 (52:33):
Well, I tell you, Mike, like you say, man, you know,
one of the things that constantly amazes me is the
you know, the generosity of the fishing community. I you know,
I don't care if you you know, sitting at the
dock and you got some type of issue. Men, there's
always a fisherman or a boater who's always willing to
try to give you a hand. And that's that's I
think why I enjoyed voting so much, you know, And
when you got somebody like this where it's you know,
(52:55):
like you said that there is nothing else to these guys,
and it's taking them a long time to even get
to the point. You know, the love that he has.
But you know, worst case scenario, this kid wants to
work back in the tackle shop or something, just supposed
to be back involved in it. And they sent me
a picture recently from him in the in the hospital
and you know, he's missing half of one leg leg.
You know, it's just terrible, and he's got a smile
(53:15):
on his face. And I'm like, you know, man, you
got that kid's happy and most people I know and
it's just an inspiration, like, how do you not help
somebody like that?
Speaker 1 (53:23):
Well, and he's you know, maybe he's smarter than the
rest of us, and he realizes that, you know, he's alive. Yeah,
by a by all accounts, And again Bo and I
talked for you know, probably forty five minutes yesterday morning
after the show. He shouldn't be alive. I mean, think
about it, if you put that scenario together, there's no
(53:45):
way he shouldn't have made the boat ride back to land,
let alone everything he had to go through from when
they got to the beach to the hospital. I mean, well, you.
Speaker 13 (53:55):
Know, from the time of the accident to the time
he actually got to the hospital was four hours. I mean,
his legs were in tourniquets, for four hours with no
circulation or a thing. Yeah, I don't know if Bo
told you this this part, but you know, we had
other friends of ours out there. Both these two guys
were fireman in paramedics. Took him about forty five minutes
(54:19):
to an hour. They're about to catch up with hours.
But when they jumped on board, you know, one of
them said to him, he said, Man, he's going to
go in the cardiac arrest any moment. We're going to
do CPR for him too. We get to the to
the doc, it ain't gonna do anything because of the
situation he's in. And he never did. He stayed awake,
He stayed.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
With it man.
Speaker 13 (54:36):
And you know Bo and Patrick mccasstady was one of
the firemen who jumped on board, who's also a guide
over and get Cape Cora area. I tell you one
of the funny part of this thing, if there is
a little funny part, Bo almost didn't make our boat
that day.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
We had literally pulled away from the dock.
Speaker 13 (54:53):
And we had to go back for him. And it's
I'm telling you, if it wasn't for Bo Jack Bo
Johnson telling us you know, how to help him, you know,
would not have survived.
Speaker 6 (55:01):
Man.
Speaker 13 (55:01):
Bo's an amazing, amazing angler and an amazing human being.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
Yeah. Well, and that's what you know, the fact that
Bo put the tourniquet on initially was what kind of
drove us to and at least drove me in my
brand to go. I have no idea how to do
that the right way. I know, I think I know
what I would do, but I don't know, you know,
I I don't know. I need to know. I just
now I want to know. I mean, it's and that
(55:26):
unfortunately I should have needed to know before something like
this happens. But when it happens to somebody that you
know as well as I know Bo Johnson, I can't
imagine being in that moment and not knowing like I
want to know, you know, I mentioned to Bo. You know,
it wasn't too long ago. Five six months ago, I
(55:47):
had a car accident go down right next to me
in Brandon and a car ended up, you know, on
its side, with one guy in it. I'm the first
guy there. It happened right in front of me. Drive
past it, pull over, jump out, go to see if
everybody's okay. And this guy has seen a convertible and
he can't get out. I can't get him out, and
(56:09):
now I got smoke, I got, you know, and I
don't know. I don't know what's going on. I don't
are we gonna have a fire. It didn't seem like
a terrible crash, kind of a glancing blow tips the
car over, But I don't know what's going on. All
I see is fire, and I'm like, dude, I don't
I'm not helping your car. I'm not helping your convertible
out here anyway. But I'll be right back. I mean,
I just went got my knife and just I'm cutting
(56:30):
you out of this vehicle, you know what I mean.
But there's there's just there's and again he was he
was fine. Thank god, I didn't have to do anything else.
But let's just get you out of the vehicle, get
you away from it, because I don't know where this
smoke is coming from, and we don't need to be
here for this party. But I mean, just you just
don't know. I literally was just, you know, sitting at
a light, and it just went down right next to me,
(56:51):
and it shouldn't have went down. It was kind of
a crazy deal. I can't even explain it. When I
saw it happening, I could see it coming and I'm like,
this is going to be bad, and it was bad.
Luckily everyone was okay. But you just don't know it.
So you know, between get yourself prepared, I think is
a lesson in this, and then the other thing is,
you know, again, you know, casting for care. If you
(57:13):
can help, we'd love to get some help to this
kid and his family and to others who have gone
through the same thing. You know, the amount of sport
fish boats and the amount of you know, places that
do this type of fishing. This isn't the only one
of these out there, you know. Look at Drive by
a Marina here in the Bay Area and look how
many giant sport fish boats there are. You know, it happens,
(57:34):
So you know, what you guys are doing is really
good stuff. Jim Lucas, and we appreciate you for sharing
your story and hopefully I'll get Dylan to put that
up here when he calls, and we'll get that, we'll
get that posted to the live stream here, and we'll
get you some more money coming your way.
Speaker 13 (57:50):
Fantastic gentlemen. I really appreciate everything you're doing for us
in the community.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
Actually it is up already at the very top of
the page. Dylan's already got it up. You can it
says donate support fishermen today right there, make a difference
casting for care. So we do already have it up.
So if you are listening and you want to again,
even five dollars to help this kid would be great.
Jim Lucas, I appreciate you. Jim, Yeah, I can't wait
(58:15):
to get spend some time with you and your bride.
And if there's anything else we can do to help
you moving forward, you know how to get hold of me. Man.
Let's let's do what we can to make a difference.
Speaker 13 (58:26):
Fantastic gentlemen. I appreciate it very much.
Speaker 1 (58:28):
Have a great weekend, Enjoy your day, my friend. Crazy story,
crazy crazy.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Story that happens, like you said, just bam, real quick,
real quick, minutes minutes before you have no idea.
Speaker 1 (58:40):
No idea. We got Richard on the south shore. We've
got Captain Jim Fogel with our bush lights, safe boating
tip of the week. All up on the other side,
we'll be back, Welcome back. If you're looking for tree trimming, removal,
stump grinding, a local company located in Brandon, run by
good people who do things the right way, a license
(59:01):
and insured company with years of experience. Don't wait until
Mother Nature calls and delivers a blow that costs you
a thousand. Called Sools Tree Service today and let them
clear up any possible problems before the blow. Sools Tree
Service eight one three eight oh two five five four
two or follow them on Facebook at Sools Tree Service.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
You know, big advantage to have people you know, yeah, good,
I've known them forever, the good people. You can guarantee
that they're going to do what they say they're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
I've known them boys a long time.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
You know the brother, right, Ronnie, Yeah, a little crazy, yeah, yeah,
a little bit, a little bit little, you know, he's
the one that got me into all my of course,
you know what happened was their middle brother.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Just just so I put it out, there's only there's
always two sides to every story.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
No, this is the truth. I'd never let the truth
get in the way of a good story, right that.
Your buddy, Bruce is the motto exactly, Ronnie. He's the oldest,
Ricky's the youngest. He's in the tree business. And you
got Randy in the middle. Randy my brother. We're really
good friends when we were young. So my brother would
ask to go over there. My mom and I guess
(01:00:12):
my dad would go, yeah, you got to take him
with you. So I went over there. And the first
time I ever got shot at with rock salt was
with Ronnie Saw. I was on the back of a
one twenty five and we were cutting across a strawberry
field and I go, what's that noise? He goes, he's
shooting rock salt at us. That ain't too good.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
That's not great. Yeah, it's Sewole's tree service. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Them guys are great man. Tell them re Land.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Were remember the break already? Oh? Derek said, well are
you on a break? That was quick man.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
From Biggie to this. Derek's all over the place. He's
the man.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
He's the mixed master. All right. Richard on the south shore,
Captain Jim Fogel, and Dylan Hubbard all up on the
other side. We'll be back. Welcome back. This's our last
(01:01:13):

stands behind him, I had. You know, we sell hundreds
(01:02:11):
of them, right, so you're going to have some at

one go bad. It was nine months old boom warranty.
It's that easy test. It it's bad. It's done. And

them and they're there the next day or that day.
So just a good group of guys.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
I love it. Give them a call it eight one
three nine three two zero one zero eight. That's Tampa
Bay Battery. Also, I've been talking a little bit here
the last couple of weeks about South Seas Island Resort. Well,
this November South Seas is probably hosting a voters, anglers, veterans,
and first responders for a special event called Real Heroes Weekend.
It's happening Friday through Sunday, November seventh through the ninth,
(01:03:11):
Just a huge event. They're doing a lot of stuff's
reopening at Southeas isand Resort, the Marinas, all that stuff.
They're having this huge weekend inviting all the voters in.
They got deals on rooms, they got deals on dockage,
they got deals on meals. They got all kinds of
great stuff going on that weekend. Again, it's real Heroes weekend.
It's happening Friday through Sunday, November seventh through the ninth.
(01:03:34):
I will be there Friday night for the reception and
then I'll be coming back. But you guys will stay
there if you can stay for the whole weekend. They
got stuff going on. They're pet friendly, they got stuff
going on for the kids. They're just it's really really
happening down at South Seas Island Resort as they recover
from the storms and put that place back together. Go
(01:03:56):
to Southseas dot Com for all your information. Group two
tendy code is ab W twenty five, and again it's
at South Seas dot Com. Group of tende code ab
W twenty five. Let's try to rattle through some calls here.
We got just a little bit of time left with Richard.
Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
And we got Sugar Bear. Which one you're gonna go too?
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
First? I'm going i gotta go to Richard first because
hole a long time. And then we got to go
to Captain Jim Fogel. Richard, how are you, brothers.
Speaker 9 (01:04:25):
I'm doing pretty good considering everybody else. All these tales
y'all told us morning. I've been on one side or
the other of all of the one time. Clive, all right,
let's see if I pull us out of this pit
of despair you put us in. Actually, the Jens the
(01:04:46):
genesis of this come from Mahony, as most of my
material does. He was talking about the people dressed up
his animals down there in Key West. That but by
the way, Mahoney, the politically correct name is furry. Okay, furry,
that's what they refer to themselves as.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:05:04):
Well, all this got me thinking this sugar bear things
got legs. Mike is talking about the t shirts, right, yeah,
I'm thinking, well, yeah, okay, I'm thinking of maybe a
kids show like remember Cowboy Bob and Mister Kangaroot. We're
going to need the costume.
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:05:21):
First I thought bear suit. Oh, you have to kill
too many bears? Okay that you know, yeah, okay, yeah.
And then I'm thinking, you know, on these uh TikTok
and all that crap where they got the little girls
for the little toy rabbit ears on the head something
like that. Okay, and uh maybe wears Jim clothes rolling
(01:05:43):
Blaze Sugar and then I powdered Sugar. That's to tie
in the big Sugar we have Captain. We'll have Captain
Jim Fogel as his sidekick, like I forget this, mister Greens. Yeah,
and he could give a safety kipp each program.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Well, if he does up like down in the Keys,
he'd have a leash on him too, leash the rabbit.
Speaker 9 (01:06:04):
I guess I can cash you my plan of going
out on any of the Hubber's boats.
Speaker 7 (01:06:13):
We all have, Thanks Rach A great call, buddy, Buddy,
and Dylan's on the line, So we'll have a rebuttal
here soon for Old Sugar from Old Sugar Bear, let's
go to Captain Jim Fogel our pepping distributing bush light
safe boating tip of the week Jimmy Hawar jeans So Buddy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Good more good moring.
Speaker 12 (01:06:33):
Yeah, have y'all Did y'all talk about tourniquets earlier?
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
Yeah, well, we've been talking a little bit about the
whole issue that that happened down in Panama, the whole show,
and about getting getting a tourniquet. U Ya Instructional evening together.
Speaker 12 (01:06:47):
Yes, yeah, okay, But in the meantime, I'm gonna recommend
highly I've done this before, get a first aid buklet.
They are not expensive. Paperbag boats are very inexpensive in
this sort of things. Will buy a first daid book,
a booklet, get a also a if you don't have one,
get a quality first aid or trauma kit. Okay, and
(01:07:13):
I saw some for forty nine to fifty bucks online here.
We also recommend, of course, everybody, everybody should take a
CPR course and a first aid course if that's at
all possible. Now I'm gonna I'm going to read you
some stuff I took off the internet this morning. On
tourniquets determined first of all, if a toniquet is needed,
(01:07:34):
if you're witnessing a severe laceration, if the injury is
struggling to remain, if the injured is struggling to remain
conscious or appears to be in shock, or if you
see heavy bleeding coming out from underneath bandages. The first
thing you want to do is apply pressure to a
cut right or laceration. To apply pressure, try to put
(01:07:56):
a bandage on there tightly. That'll that'll hold. Okay, But
if is still bleeding, we're going to have to camp it.
We're going to have to clamp it down. Don't apply
a tourniquet on top of the wound or a joint.
Place the tourniquet two or three inches above the wounds,
between the wound and the heart. If in doubt, place
(01:08:21):
it a little bit higher. If you've got a tourniquet
on and it's still leaking a little bit, but one
up above that, don't take the first one off. This
also says a general conclusion is that a tourniquet can
be left in place for two hours with little risk
of permanent schemic injury. But every minute after that, you know,
(01:08:43):
it increases the likelihood of complications. Now it seems to
me that back in the military we were told twenty
minutes or something, But I don't know. The most important
thing after you get while you're doing this is somebody
needs to be in touch with the coastguard on the
radio to get a coastguard doctor surgeon on the line
(01:09:04):
who will walk you through this stuff and help you out.
But don't wait, don't let the person keep bleeding out.
That's the most important.
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
Thing, right, no doubt.
Speaker 12 (01:09:16):
Good stuff to me anyway, That's all I got in
a short time here. I'm not an expert on it.
I've had a fair amount of training, but not as
much as I should probably, So anyway, let's just be
safe and hope we don't have to do any of
this stuff, but let's be ready if we do need it,
and we are going to put together some sort of
a of a of a little clinic or class for
(01:09:39):
the captains.
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
I love him, Good job, brother.
Speaker 12 (01:09:42):
Thank you guys for the Coast Guard oxili In Saint
Pete Jimfog will be safe out there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
Thank you, sir. Brought to you by our good friends
again at Peppin Distributing and Bush Light, who reminds you
responsibility matters even on the water. My father, God rest
his soul, used to say, prepare to succeed.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
That's part of it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
Prepared to succeed. Try to be prepared for this if
it does happen, and you'll have a much more successful
outcome hopefully. Just checking here real quick with the A team.
Sugar Bear kept Sugar Bear himself. I got bad visuals
from Richard on the South Shore. Now, yeah, you and
your gym gear rolled in, Sugar a Halter top class shorts. Yeah,
(01:10:25):
I don't know, buddy.
Speaker 6 (01:10:26):
You know, you guys spend a lot of time visualizing me.
It's very unsettling.
Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
Well, I actually was doing none of it. Richard on
the South Shore had this whole thing thought out.
Speaker 6 (01:10:36):
So you're participating in it, so you're just as guilty.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
I thought we were boys. Man. I'm just trying to
I'm trying to get you through this.
Speaker 6 (01:10:45):
I'm just totally floored this morning. You can't comment on
your own live stream. You're participating in this. It's it's
just very unsettling, the whole deal.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
Honey tends to drag him down. Dylan' sorry about that.
Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
But I was been there to level you guys out.
So you're just getting dragged down to that level so coldly.
Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Oh Now, Ben's the good one. Be's the good piece
of this.
Speaker 6 (01:11:06):
I feel like Ben is. I feel like Ben is
the even keel that kind of keeps you guys on
the course.
Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
I don't know if he give you give us a report.
I got a couple more after you.
Speaker 6 (01:11:24):
Well, things are going well. Thirty nine hour trip. Just
got back in this morning. It was a little sporty,
but they put together a nice pile of fish, really
good red grouper hall a lot of big fat red grouper.
They had a lot of nice mangrove snappers, some good
size to him, a lot of lanes, a lot of vermillions,
Almaco's poorghis. The pelagic action was really prolific yet again,
(01:11:44):
so a lot of a lot of bait out there,
a lot of movement up on the surface. Had to
stay a little shallower than we would have liked to
because of the weather, but ended up putting together a
good haul and looking forward to this little weather window
coming up early week, hopefully, hopefully going to get out
there the deeper water and get on those yellow tails
and muttons. They've been really good to us, but you
(01:12:05):
got to get out there past about one forty one
sixty to get into them.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
And we were.
Speaker 6 (01:12:09):
Staying a little shallower around one twenty to one for
this trip, trying to hide out from that that stronger
wind we had, but ended up putting together a nice catch,
and near shore the hogfish are really heating up. Got
lots of mackerel and kingfish. It's a good time to
get out there, but don't forget if you're too busy
to go fishing. You're just too darn busy.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Thanks dealing good stuff. De hugs you the man brother, well.
Speaker 6 (01:12:31):
Done, appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
How a good one? All right? Pardoner? Hey seafood fest
you sound like you were yelling all day yesterday too.
Speaker 6 (01:12:37):
Oh dude, it's brutal, my boys, is just getting worse
and worse.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
Is it going? One? Really good seafood festival? Done? Are
going on today too?
Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:12:46):
One more day?
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
One more day.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Isn't anything like what they're doing down there in the keys.
Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:12:53):
Why don't you come and find out, boy that he.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Can fit right in with the furries.
Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Yeah, big old beer Cary open exactly open carry if
I go there the day.
Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
All right, all right, do you hopes have a great day, buddy,
Thanks to see what a mess we are. Let's go
real quick here. We got to go quick to Gary
in Inglewood and then we can talk to the mad
snooker about Tuesday night. Gary. How are you.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
Man? You know, I gotta started a little late, and
I was a little startled. I thought something happened to
the show because I turned on hearing the about furries
and half the tops and some tight. I was like, hey,
alternative black style, that work is taken over. And then
who some.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
Of theos coming out here? Yeah, then videos coming out
the keys are contaminating us.
Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
Hey, well I didn't I didn't call last week. I
want to talk about last week. Uh, you know, we
had those super moons and uh, the fishing was really
tough in the morning. But the second day, not the
first not this not the first day after we didn't
have the full moon, but the second day and then
the next couple of days it was on fire in
(01:14:09):
the morning. I mean it was like where's all the
light at you know, at night and then there was
nothing and the fishing was just amazing. So I'm gonna
put that on my little calendar of making sure I
get out there right after the big.
Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
Full moon and you know those were too, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:27):
But it was dark the day after it was it
was yeah, because you know, they they couldn't feed like
they did And man, I got my limit on a
couple of fish in the bay within two hours, and
uh it wasn't bad. Yeah, And I was choosing up
to pick the big ones too on the trout and
the man bite still pretty good Tooni. I always go
(01:14:55):
out there twice a day. I go out in the
morning and then I go out and the evening. That's
for like I said, unset cruise with an adult beverage.
Speaker 10 (01:15:01):
Of course.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
You know, one thing I learned is never have your
limit on that first trip because you know you're going
the second trip and if they check you, then you
can't be back out there fishing. But as long as
you're one, I learned that with lobster, just be one
under your limit.
Speaker 14 (01:15:17):
That way, if they check you, you have a reason
to be back out. Gary, great call, brother, I got one.
I got one more to get to have a great week,
my friend. All right, buddy, a little I hope we
can get that's avoid tip.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):

mad snooker himself, Dave palmerlou our guest, Our guest this

three in the morning. I sent Mike a little bit
of a video bomb there. But I was seeing snook
all over the place.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
That's awesome, all over, just all over.
Speaker 8 (01:16:02):
I got about it, got about a twenty six pounder
last night. But they were just out bridge hopping last
night to kill a little time because I can't sleep,
didn't want to watch TV. It's good to good to
see the lightning wind. But looking forward to this Tuesday night. Yeah, man,
getting out there and that ought to be a good time.

the shattering. They're thick and they're starting to go a
little bit further up. You may have to go to

had the ko out on the Alifive Friday night, Behing.
I took the boat out and I'd noticed right away.
I'm like, fishermen, Oop fishermen. Yeah, oop fishermen. They were
up there. They were up the river aways. Guys were
fishing pretty hard. And I went out and then came
back and they were all still kind of working that
(01:17:20):
same area pretty good. I'm like, well, they've been here
a while. Something's biting, so that bites. Yeah, go off
the river.
Speaker 8 (01:17:28):
