Sorry? Today? Friday, the twenty sixth September high eight love
two thundershares, breezy westerly winds, which we've been getting a
bit of both already. Sat Day, the twenty seventh September
high thirteen love five, mostly cloudy, breezy to north to northwest,
northeast winds sixteen carn air the wind and there's twenty
(03:02):
per chance twenty percent charts of rain, says a trace
of gampness around. It's only the twenty eighth high of sixteen,
low of five, light rain developing in the afternoon, breezy
to brisk nor northwesters thirty two can air sixty percent
charts of rain with some moderate falls. Monday, the twenty
ninth high of nine a low of two showers, fairly

breezy westerly winds twenty seven can air sixty percent chants
of rain with some moderate falls. Tuesday, the thirtieth to
September high of twelve, a low of two, windy with
rain developing the afternoon. Breezy to brisk north west winds
thirty five can air, eighty percent charts of rain with
some falls being heavy. And Wednesday, the first of October,
(03:47):
a new month, a high of eight, low of zero

fairly breezy west to see our west winds twenty four

on with the show and hopefully I can do any
justice once again, And thank you to once again Class

Speaker 1 (04:12):
The Master proudly brought to you by Peter's Genetics. Every
drip means quite a bit when it's from Peter's Genetics.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Here on the show with me. Now, I've got Steve
Henderson from our dairy farmer. Can I Steve here? Getting on? Uh? Indifferent?
But yeah, I just called gray overcast. Not many shares today,
but I think we're we're not the worst of it.
Speaker 8 (04:51):
You know, it seems like you're getting away Scott free.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Now.
Speaker 8 (04:53):
We said he was a thunder and a super hil
comcer this morning, so he's still got that springs feel
about it, and just got to be reminded that we
act we aren't in October yet, still September. So yeah, yeah,
it's just what it is.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's only it's only a bit a name, isn't it
September and October? Like it might be like this for
another week or two. It might just clear up to you.
It's I don't want to be negative and bad news
been at all, but we all know that sometimes when
it drops from thirty to one in the date, that
it's not necessarily going to change much.
Speaker 8 (05:26):
Yeah, still spring time and yep, still people are still lemon.
We're still having a few cares.
Speaker 9 (05:30):
So now you're going to have it.
Speaker 8 (05:31):
And back in your mind. And we're not shorts and
T shirt with a although we are getting the odd
day that you can't take your leagues off with. It's
coming a big difference and computer last year.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, and a bit of warmth on the back.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Man.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
You can be quite forgiving with that, can't. You're on
a nice day, you definitely yep.
Speaker 8 (05:47):
Yeah, it just makes all those jobs a bit easier.
And we've had a few comments this year that the
best thing about this spring can be good las spring
is people come back from doing jobs.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
So last year, you.
Speaker 8 (05:57):
Know, Blake went away and it got stuck in the
next person never came back and went away to pull
that one out, and then then they come back. So
we're a lot more efficient this year where people coming
back and then came on the task.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
So you'll be ware through carving as you seed. How's
that going for you? And you know, like you'll be
probably looking for when I on amazing.
Speaker 8 (06:17):
I guess yeah, yeah we are, So we're like everybody else.
We've just got those few strugglers. We had shortest station
and whilst we were still aoing and I've all carved now,
so we've actually got a bit of a lull over
two or four days between the short ja so shortest
stations carving and the natural mate coming through.
Speaker 9 (06:35):
So we've got about sixty on left and metroal mate
stuff hooks and toward the next couple of days. So
you wishould be tied up by the peop of October,
which is it's not far away, so good to get
it done.
Speaker 8 (06:46):
And yep, you don't want to think about it, but
you made it in the corner. You just start amazing
about the twenty students of October. Yeh, we've yeah, chucked
all our early cavas. So we had four hundred metre
yes skiined for metritis last week, so when we have
cleaned about two percent of those, so we've got the
(07:09):
results actually which we put a favorite of selenium into
the herd. And yeah, I think that tastes dividence cleaning
were definitely Yeah, so I pretty head with that.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
In the kil condition, they were scored two weeks ago
and they were average of.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
Five point one, so nice.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah, and the girls that have lost over a body
to miss score since cab and were they were six
and a half going into winter Sourday, they could.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
Hopefully there's no repercussions on.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
That coming into mating.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
But there's a whole now.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Things have taken along pretty good.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
But you said some balancing. It not too fait, not
too skinny, just right, doesn't it? For mating it is?
Speaker 8 (07:49):
Yeah, And you know the weather can play a big
part on that because the chaos and sure and the
cat is obviously going to make milk and not lose
quart as much off for bec he to the one
that gets pushed into the corner every year that comes through.
So the last year we did probably lose a few
bit of condition off them, and this year we haven't,
so yeah maybe.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
And also just soft beaten lane cows. We haven't had
as many as.
Speaker 8 (08:14):
Yeah, that's a big difference too.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
So the ground is just not a sodden clearly, no
it's not.
Speaker 8 (08:19):
And even the tracks, you know, they clear up and
you must get rust off the lanes, you know, two
or three times a week, whereas last year we didn't.
So you know, those chaos who as they do get
arrest and always coming into mating, we do tend to
get a bit more lameless comes through as chaos ride
each other and come back down on the lane in
the air. So yeah, we'll that what's that probably drafting and.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Creating them as quick as you can.
Speaker 8 (08:43):
But we certainly haven't got it minutes last year, which
is good.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
And I noticed just driving around northern south and east
and south and over the last week from what looked
like feet was reasonably tight, you know, a week ten
days ago to earlier this week was looking like it
it was at least growing. It's probably breaking records, but
it's certainly better than it has been.
Speaker 8 (09:03):
Yeah, yeah, pund of the scenes. So yeah, we looked
at bit of data last year and the year before,
and we've historically grown, you know, forty forty five kilos
coming into the start of October, and we grew I
think we were thirty eight last week, so you know,
not breaking any away the which looks pretty good. And
what do they say when you're hit balanced in the
September early October, You're only need to see one or
(09:24):
two days in front of it so that we can
see sounds like we're farming too a book.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
The status quo, isn't it.
Speaker 8 (09:30):
I think I think, yeah, you just got to go
with your gap, and you know that the sortiam which
is arising, and October's got blonder days and all those things,
so you can just manage it. But yeah, the more
information we've got, the better decision.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Gile mate, Yeah, completely, and you'll be well, I guess
I've hit here about positives and negatives, but I would
imagine most things it's just pretty positive, other than the
weather is doing what it does this time of year,
and and but you just probably still know to the
grindstone flat out just kicking all those goals at the
moment to set yourself up for the season.
Speaker 8 (10:02):
Yes, yes, it's all been pretty positive. Actually we've had
we had a we had a favorite of milk fever
happened in the early August that we here on what
it's mentioned before, we change to jets and so it's
sort of knock that on the head. But yeah, as
a whole that the spring has been good and everybody
you talk to and it's not just a new industry
(10:24):
that the landing has been pretty good. Apart from you know,
talk about the weekend, you know fortnight ago, the Saturday
that come.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Through that would have been around.
Speaker 8 (10:31):
But as a whole you've got both industries and again
pretty good with spring. So yeah, becose it's in a
pretty good mood.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
It certainly looks like it you beas doing what it's doing.
Milk's going good, cheating, cheating lambs and potentially a bit
of wool on the app just we get the we
get the full hand off, the grain lifted a bit,
which I guess a lot of deer farmers don't want
that to go to why are they?
Speaker 8 (10:54):
No, they don't, But it's all partial like that's what
makes the world go around. So now those grain guys
can get you know, good price for the commodity that
goes into dairy feed. Everybody will do well and the
season is going to be one of those ones that
don't want to get too political. But the government, well I.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
Don't know if they'll wake up, but they'll just realize
again that what the ago culture seeker does to the economy,
and this year.
Speaker 8 (11:16):
May really, really, really really show that.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Ah. Yeah, I just don't know why they keep forgetting.
As you said, I don't want to get political either,
but we keep the you know, through the COVID times
everything sir, the kind of is what it is. But yeah,
surely they can get the heat round up.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
Yeah you've got it, got it. I don't know the numbers,
but I just would call a month or so ago
they were saying about the year the limited a meal
of concrete that was poured in the last twelve months
and it's just a clear reflection of the construction industry
and the growth it's not hitting. So yeah, there's got
to be someone topping it up.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
And yeah, it's again.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
It's the ago cultural industry that does doing that. And
as long as you doing what you're doing, and you
don't mind doing it completely.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I mean, hey, look, I think we're about done there.
Thank you for your time, all the best for the
continuation on into the end of carving, you know, leading
into the mating. I'm sure I'll be talking to you
again at some stage, and if not, Andy will be
in between times. Thanks very much.
Speaker 8 (12:13):
Sounds good, and make sure keep it up, Toby. You
can get a bit of a reprieve. So if you
have any time off farm, you know, get off for
a couple of days and make the most of early
October and then ye's made. It comes around and befo
we know it's Christmas.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Perfect wise words. Good on you, Steve.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
True.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
The Muster proudly brought to you by Peter's Genetics. Every
drop means quite a lot when it's from Peter's Genetics.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Up next on the Master, we've got Philip Duncan from
weather Watch. Good afternoon, Philip, here you go, good mate,
How are you very good? Actually? But the weather's just
turned on its ear. But yep, it's what do you
expect that this time? Here?
Speaker 6 (13:02):
Now?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Yeah, So it's all over the place at the moment,
and it's in true spring style. Really where over the
next several days, there are some warm days and there
are some cold ones. It's going to feel wintry at times,
it's going to feel spring like at times, depending on
which day it is. So it's a really chaotic weather
pattern coming up over the next week, which means you've
got some days that aren't that bad and some days
(13:25):
that are pretty rubbish.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, and I think it's a bit like, you know,
when you're having this weather. Well, the thing is, we
do know what good weather's like. It's all right if
this is all you new, but yeah, the odd good
day comes in between years sort of like ah, and
if we can have a week.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Of that, yeah, yeah, So you're going to see those
like today's a cold day, temperature, you know, only getting
up to about eight degrees today. Tonight it's low down
to two, so you never know. There could be some
frost around tomorrow morning, although they won't be very big
or very heavy, and then the weekend kind of warms up.
You've actually got, especially by Sunday, a windy northwest blowing through.
(14:01):
In fact, i'd keep an eye on that northwest, so
it might be up to the you know, getting the
odd branch and tree down, which can obviously cause power cuts.
So that's possible on Sunday due to very strong norwester
is kicking through, and then they'll turn westerly on Monday
and the temperature drop, so you go from a high
of you know, sixteen seventeen degrees on Sunday to a
high of just nine or so by Monday, and in fact,
(14:22):
even Wednesday next week might be even colder. We are
even seeing I'm looking right now at the Gore forecast
and there's a snow symbol showing along with rain showers
for Wednesday with a high of just eight. So it's
similar to today, but it just might be a degree
or two colder as we go into the later part
of Wednesday. So it's just something to keep an eye on.
It doesn't look like a major event, but it's not
(14:44):
great timing to be seeing that kind of weather. It
is short left, though, and it's warm again by Friday
next week.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
It's warm enough. If it does do anything, it's just
going to be shares. It's not going to really see
it other than up on the tops. So there's no
stock at risk up the.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
At least no, and it's not going to be a lot.
You know, when you see the rain and snow and
the temperatures eight degrees, that's probably more of a chance
of some early snow flurries before the sun really comes up,
and then by the time the sun's up, it'll be
too warm, well too warm for snow, and then you
just have a kind of your normal sort of day
with a few showers around them.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
And then that volatility too with thunderstorms if it's warm
and you know cold fund coming through and all sorts
of things, isn't that.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Yeah, that's right. Yeah, it's messy because we don't really
have an order to the weather. So over the last
few weeks, what we've really seen is a lot of
high pressure north of New Zealand a lot of low
pressure south of US, and that puts those windy westerly
smack bang over us. Over the next week as we
go into October, there is more high pressure around the
country and I do mean around us, not necessarily over us.
(15:45):
And it's those different highs that are going to completely
change the wind flow, the airflow. Some days it'll be
warm air coming out of Australia, hot air if it's
coming from Canberra, and then you've also got those colder
changes coming out of the southern Ocean, and so classic
kind of spring weather. And what I'm pleased to be
seeing is that you're getting some more warmer days in
(16:06):
the mix, which is perhaps a little bit of a
shift from where you've been over the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
And I know, well, I guess this is your game.
So can you see a rough period? Is there another
fortnight or it's a certain time where you think it's
going to move off and we're going to get a
little bit of settled.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Weather, Not just yet, No, I don't, but what I
am seeing in Australia is some larger settling high pressure systems,
and so usually what they get drifts our way at
some point. So we'll be really closely watching to see
and will probably have a better answer for that next
week because our next Climate Watch monthly outlook will be
out and we'll be able to really sort of examine
(16:43):
where the air pressure is going to be lying as
far around as sort of the middle of October, and
that kind of helps us see how the first three
weeks of the month will be shaping up, and that
will be helpful. So right now, it's just a little
bit too early to see that, but I am seeing
larger hide and hopefully some more set periods in the mix,
and not just the constant wind and the constant cold
(17:04):
fronts which we've been having for the last month.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
So I can't be bullish and tell you that you're
thinking mid October on where it's going to stabilize.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
I'm hoping it will because there are hints of it
developing now already going into October. And so if we
can just build on that, which normally you know, like
I'm saying, it's a textbook spring so far, So if
we go with that, hopefully, then going with the textbook,
it should really improve before Labor weekend. Labor weekend can
be a very interesting time of year. We can sometimes
(17:32):
get a major winter blast and ruin the weekend, but
we can also have some really lovely sunny Labor weekend,
So fingers crossed for that. Possibly won't got to even
lock that in the next week, but certainly be able
to see just generally what the weather pattern is looking
like by the middle of October. That's something we should
be able to do next week.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Yep, perfect good, I'll hold you to it, Yes, no doubt. Look,
I think that's probably it's spring. You know, it's volatile.
We know that. So if we're expecting anything else, we're
expecting sort of miracles, aren't we.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Yeah, you basically are at this time of the year,
and so like yeah, like I say that over the
next week, Sunday could be a windy day, possible power outages,
might be a frost tonight, and then next Tuesday night
and Wednesday morning is when we get that more wintry
cold front with a burst of rain. So, especially for
those with the newborn livestock, I think Tuesday Wednesdays just
(18:28):
an area to just focus on. But the good news
is it does warm back up again fairly quickly by
Thursday and Friday. Certainly by Friday we've got a high
of sixteen or seventeen degrees and overnight weve five, so
it's not too bad. Mostly dry as well by Friday.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Perfect. Like I said, we'll hold you to it all right, mate, Hey,
thank you very much for this. I'll be back in
touch to some stage, but I know Andy will be too,
so yep, thank you.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
All good my pleasure mate, have a good weekend.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Good on you.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
The Muster proudly brought to you by Peter's Genetics. Every
drip means quite a bit when it's from Peter's Genetics.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Got the muster. Now we've got Michelle. What with the
country crossover all the way from Dunedin A Michelle? Here
are you getting on?
Speaker 6 (19:21):
God?
Speaker 10 (19:21):
How are you going? It's nice to talk to a
different voice, although I do you know, I love Andy,
but it's nice to meet you via the earwakes via
your microphone.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Yes, how's it all going?
Speaker 6 (19:32):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (19:33):
Everything's great, mate. It's always a great week here, you know,
in Duneda and the South, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
I think I've got the shield.
Speaker 10 (19:39):
I mean, you can't be much happier.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Oh, that's quite exciting. They've got the shield. It's good
to see. It's you know, the team's doing it justice
when they get it like the South. And I think
getting it off y Kada was great because the public
hardly ever sees it. Unfortunately, we lost to Canary, but
then Otago pretty unexpectedly too with twenty to go when
they've got a yellow card, come back and win the
(20:01):
game and they are doing it justice and parading around
town too, which is awesome. Oh, such a.
Speaker 10 (20:07):
Great thing to see. And I think those smaller centers
are well, we can't really call us a smaller center.
Canterbury did do it justice as well, you know, unfortunately,
but they did. But it's nice to see it, like
I saw a photo of it out on a farm
somewhere in Sterling down near my stomping ground, and are
closer over the over the week. You know, it's fabulous
to see people you know, handling it, seeing it up
(20:29):
close and really enjoying it. And I think the game,
the game tomorrow is going to be huge. I think
there is going to be a massive crowd there, which is.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Great because let's face it, most teams struggle for good
supports South. It's probably one of the outlawers there that
does well. But hopefully one gets along to the stadium
and gets a good take for the province and whether
they want to lose, at least they get one good
game of a good take, and if they hold it
into next season, we'll get a few crowds along then too,
which would be awesome.
Speaker 10 (20:57):
Oh absolutely. And I mean, you know, North Harbor, I'm
not sure, but I don't think have they won to
gain the season yet?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Not yet?
Speaker 10 (21:03):
How I mean, I hate to say this, I don't
want to see a Targo lose the shield, Chris. But
you know a small Harbor came back and won that
as the first win of the season. How crazy would
that be?
Speaker 2 (21:13):
That would be awesome, which obviously the elephant in the
room would mean South and get a seeking chance. And
if that happens, because the way South has been going lately,
they've been playing the opposition and form. Well, if Harvey
actually wouldn't they would have hit form, so we could
you know we would win it regardless, wouldn't we? But
I won't get two careed away. I'm only being tongue
in cheek obviously.
Speaker 10 (21:34):
Yeah, let's not get too excited. The Targo are going
to keep the shell.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
We know that.
Speaker 10 (21:37):
And of course the woman's team won the Fair of
Palmer Cup last weekend as well, so it was a
double hitder for Targo.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
No, that was awesome just to see them out there
doing it and out comes the old photos that. Yeah,
they're quite funny, aren't they when they put a frame
in front of them and they're pretty scant clothing underneath.
I shouldn't probably go on about that.
Speaker 10 (21:57):
We shouldn't go on about that too much. I don't
think Chris, you know women's rugby, like just heading into
that topic this weekend. Of course, Canada are playing in
the final gainst England at twerking them. They could have
sold that stadium out I think four times over or
three times over, which is massive rugby when you think
about how far it's come. And you know, I just
thought I want to chat about underdogs because Canada, I mean,
(22:19):
in some way are an underdog going to this match
I think against England. I mean, of course England are
going to be saying it's coming home like they always do. Well,
it's who knows.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Well, the last two World Cup finals they've choked. Let's
face it, they've been the better team and they've lost
both those games.
Speaker 10 (22:36):
So they're going to be like their men's team.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Then, well, the men's team generally don't quite even make
it to a final, so we're not you know, like
I remember eight years ago we ran rampant against them
in the final and we shouldn't have. You know, the
last one we managed to contest the line out and
close that game out luckily, and it's not easy on
(22:59):
this time. But as Canada, and they just need to
look Canada is a very good team and I think
they've got every chance of being able to upset England
and the English media and public being what they are,
and I know they're not the team that are saying
it's coming home. It's really hard to shut some of
that noisy out though, isn't it.
Speaker 10 (23:18):
Oh definitely, I think on a psychological basis it'll be
very hard for Canada. But going in is the you know,
they've had to crowd from their way there. I'm sure
they're not the only team that I've had to do
that for this World Cup. There's some fantastic stories from
you know, the women's rugby they back in the first
World Cup days of these teams having to fund and
how they funded their way to these you know, if
(23:38):
you can get a chance to lot them up, do
because they're fantastic stories to tell. But it's just great
to see women's rugby really making it on the world stage.
And I hate to say I've I've got an English husband,
but I might curing the Canada Chris.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Well, we're all colonials are for all, aren't we exactly?
Speaker 10 (23:56):
We're we're all from the same blood. But you know,
you can be watch the.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Test match this weekend, yes saiday night, I'll be watching.
I'm sort of losing touch awe. But whether I think,
I don't know if I've lost touch or I feel
that the All Black brands lost touch with the people
in the you know, in the grassroots and at the
base of their support, I'm not sure how to put it.
After the dismal seecond half the a few weeks ago,
(24:20):
which to be for you, sirly Africa played extremely well.
But yeah, it's going to be a real tough game Aussie.
I think they've got every chance of taking this one
and getting rid of that unbeaten run we've had for
what is it thirty two years now thirty one years,
and that would heap a lot of pressure on Robertson.
But then do we play two bad tests in a
row very often?
Speaker 10 (24:41):
Not often, No, not often at all. So I mean
we'll wait and see, I guess with that on Saturday
night every I'll be waiting on tender hooks to see
what happens.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, it's going to be a cracking game anyway. Just
Phil Kerns, you know, trying a bit of a bit
of spice into it in the last week, so you know,
even packs nothing, what is it? It's nothing, It's not
even a fancy ground. It's only small capacity. So Ozzies
are doing their best to you know, pissive one off.
Speaker 10 (25:09):
It reminds me of the cricket with the old sleeging,
isn't that that's brilliant.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I love a good sleep, well, a good quality sleege
is well worth it to be for you.
Speaker 10 (25:16):
And talking about cricket lots coming up here.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
We've got i think is at the first of October
we're playing the Aussies in Munganoui, so we've got three
against those guys and t twenties and there might be
a couple of one days coming up to and then
later on obviously England. But you know, you, even though
it's sprung and we've had some nice days, it's pretty
chilly outside here at the moment, and you'd think, well,
(25:42):
who would even be thinking about playing cricket in New Zealand?
But Aunt Munganer is a nice spot, isn't it.
Speaker 10 (25:48):
Oh apparently it's an amazing ground. It's one that's on
my bucket list to go to and watch cricket. Although
I'd just say University Oval is definitely right up there.
I'll be along there watching hopefully T twenty. I think
they're coming here in November to play the West Indies,
so I'm very excited about that one.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Well, you're right, you're did right. But the problem for
me is that when everybody's actually got a day job,
we never seem to get any games the weekend down here,
and I have not been able to get to one
since the twenty fifteen World Cup, so it's quite frustrating.
Speaker 10 (26:14):
Oh no, I've got the same you know, maybe we
should start. We need to write some letters. I think
Chris writing some letters about Uh.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
They definitely listen, wouldn't they. No one ever listens to me.
But anyway, that's a story for another day.
Speaker 10 (26:29):
And farming minds, we're talking off here about how great
you know in Fantira the results released this week.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
It's a great result for them. It's you know, comparatively
to where their costs are. It's possibly not the best
result they've ever had, but dollars and cents wise outstanding.
If they get that sale of the of the brands
across the line, Farmers will be in for quite a
good year, which would be great. To just consolidate some debt.
I know, I see our track, the machinery and equipment,
(26:57):
and there's certainly interesting out there. But I could completely
understand people consolidating on the core deep first get that
under control, and then they might look at doing something
else with a bit of luck.
Speaker 10 (27:08):
For me, yeah, one hundred percent. I think coming from
a small town like you and I do. I mean
you come from Balfa, I come from Balslca, two great
underdog towns in the Sound. But you know when you
work in small towns, you see, don't you, when those
those good things happen, you know, with the farmers, you see,
it makes a big impact on those small towns in
the retail and machinery, all of it, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Yeah, you see some of those stores that have closed,
something pops up in them. Even just when the sun's
on your back. Things just feel a bit better, with
a little bit least stress. So it's it's definitely needed,
be good if we could get it right across the
board in all industries in the rural aspect. But you know,
Sheet and Beefer holding their own, daeries holding their own.
It just we get that arable side up and running
(27:52):
and be even better wouldn't.
Speaker 10 (27:53):
It while was looking a little bit more positive?
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Settle down, all right then, Look it's been great talking Michelle,
and we might just carry on. We've sort of hat
a time, and but thank you for coming on the
show and and you'll be talking to you again next week.
Speaker 10 (28:11):
Not a problem, and go to Targo with the Shield to.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
The stream the muster proudly brought to you by Peter's Genetics.
Every drop means quite a lot when it's from Peter's Genetics.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
You.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Next up, we got Morgan Green from Northern South and Vetz.
Good afternoon, Morgan, how you get on one?
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Hey? Good?
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Thanks? How are you doing? Chase?
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Very good? Could be could be worse. Put it that way,
I'm going to be well, it's the weekend, it's Friday.
I'm gonna go and watch South and play tonight.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
So that might be good.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
It could be worse. It might be worse.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
It must be at that stage of God. The last
couple we had the massify of the rent fairly shield
and then a couple of tragic laws since then, unfortunately
they see.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I think playing counties in Wellington there were two teams
they out of form. We've played the amount of form.
Tatsmen are already in form, so we should be fine.
That's right.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Hopefully we'll play them out of form. That's right.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
What's hitting out there anyway? Everything good in the farming
seek that you know, I guess calving and laming a
pretty well through in a lot of places.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Yeah, look, absolutely, we're sort of really more or less
down to the stragglers. Then Calvin has slowed down pretty
pretty substantially, as it does once we get to this
time of years. So yeah, sort of tidying up the
last fifty or one hundred or socaus always seems to
take a lot of time, whereas you go through a
period and things are really really busy. So yeah, on
(29:55):
the dairy side of things, tidying up Calvin obviously doing
a lot of metro check in and metrocuring. Our cure
rates are less than what they have been in other years,
which is just reflective of the you know, the good
start really that we had in August, which is really good.
Kaus were in good condition, We had plenty feed early August.
I know that's sort of changed a wee bit a
(30:16):
little bit more recently, but we did have pretty good situation.
Cows are producing milk really really a few minutes, and
you know, in some respects, without wanting to put a
down or on things, sometimes that can be a bit
of an issue with regards to getting back in calf
just because they are producing so much milk for it.
You know, we go back twelve months weather with terrible cows,
(30:39):
didn't produce much milk, but actually we ended up with
the best six week in Cafret that we ever had.
So there's a bit of a balance there too. You
have to try and achieve sometimes that heard of somebody
this morning's actually doing two point eight, so you know,
it's pretty pretty incredible sort of production. But there's certainly
a lot of guys are doing you know, two point
(31:00):
four to two point five. So yeah, pretty pretty good
levels of production for late September.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
That's it feels for me. It's been a number of
years since it's been a real decent peak with the
dairy farmers A touch would maybe they might get one
this year.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Yeah, Look, certainly things are starting that way for sure,
there's no two ways about that. They've got off to
a great start. And look, you know, things obviously can
change a lot of it is very much weather dependent
to what happens with grass.
Speaker 8 (31:30):
Growt and things like that.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
But you know, again if we go back compared to
ten fifteen years ago, farmers have got a lot more
levers to pull out. You know, there's very very few
sheds don't have in shed feed out.
Speaker 8 (31:42):
There's very very few places.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Don't have the capacity, you know, to give a really
good source of supplementary feed. So you know, that makes
a huge difference. As I say, if we go back
fifteen years ago, there was a lot of places didn't
have that capacity to make up the gap with quality feeds.
So that's very much been a big, big change over
(32:05):
the last ten to fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
So I guess like the way that with the norm
constantly changing, so is too the farming systems have constantly changed,
probably to cape with that, which has been for the
right reasons, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
Oh, absolutely, there's no doubt about that. There's been significant
investment in farm infrastructure over the years, There's no two
ways about that. But it was a case of having,
you know, in order to be consistent in the amount
of milk picture supply and in the results that you're getting.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Yeah, completely, and that's just again more leaves to pull
but chaos productions have been lifting to haven't they.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Yeah, look, it hasn't you know when when we have
a payout where it is at the moment, you know,
it's it's certainly a valuable thing to do, and they're
getting that's the extra feed into the cause is economically
makes it a whole lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
And so guess in a case of what you're saying,
this is the case of following, you know, is at
the moment getting just getting your meat, for checking meat,
for curing done, and working into premating, watching hates keeping
the fade.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Up to them.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Yeah, absolutely, and looking just keeping a close eye on
cycling carrots and things like that. You know, we're looking
at probably you know, twenty five percent of herds now
have some form of wearable technology, which means you've got
much more ECOD results at hands. You know, obviously the
old style tail painting still is very very popular, but
(33:39):
you don't quite have the same accuracy of results from
the view at your fingertips premating, Right, we know exactly
how many cows have cycled today, and just go and
check that on the computer. Yes, the look that makes
a big difference. But you know, I think I think
we just need to be a wee bit wary that
this year, just because cows are beginning to produce milk,
(34:03):
so so well, we just certainly do need to be
just a little bit wary about non cycling cows and
just making sure we're given them every opportunity to get
back in calf.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yep, equal and what all beout? Yeah, laming, Like Laming's
well through. Had there been any major streets points of
the way that's been average, But I think a lot
of people have coketed it pretty well.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
Yeah, look, I guess for the most part, any it's
a real bad weather we've had have been short and
sharp rather than prolonged, and that certainly makes a big
difference the days and weeks rolling roll into one. But
there was certainly one Saturday or maybe even a Saturday
it was that it was pretty pretty average. But then
(34:47):
get a few good days like yeah, last weekend, last Friday, Saturday,
really really good weather, So we spray makes a big difference.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Actually tipping down here and now as we speak, so
it's just coming on yep, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
It's yeah, and we are meant to get a fair
bit of rain this afternoon, you know, we're getting up
to ten minutes or so. Yeah, it's but it tends
to be short and sharp for the most part, which
isn't too bad. Tailing has started, you know, it's just
a case of working around the weather. Okay with that,
and you know, getting getting the job done. I guess
(35:21):
the one thing on the tailing side of things is
just remember to leave those tail in long enough. I
think people, certainly over the last two three years, have
been much more conscious.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
About the hitting the heat round it.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Yeah, about making sure those tails are left long enough.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Yep. Ah, right, Look that's pretty cool. I think I'm
getting pretty for time. I'm sorry to tell you, Morgan,
is it rap it up?
Speaker 8 (35:44):
That's no worries at all.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Look and enjoy the footage tonight and and the blood
cell cup over the weekend. See how things go.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
All right, Mike, Thanks very much for the time, Morgan.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Hey, take care.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Chris nowhere been through.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
The muster, proudly brought to you by Peter's Genetics. Every
drip means quite a bit when it's from Peter's Genetics.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
There's a bit of Tim Finn, Nathan and no Fire
bringing in Nathan Burton with this. You know, the Weekly
Sports Report. You know, Nathan here are getting on.
Speaker 6 (36:30):
You're very good mate, Thank you? Hell are you good? Thanks?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah? How can you be bad?
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Like?
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I don't know the Weds average, but there's plenty to
look forward to South and I'm going to get a
win tonight, loads of stuff.
Speaker 6 (36:46):
So I understand you. You're coming down to Ruggy Park
to have a look and hopefully there'll be the you know,
hopefully you'll you'll bring some good luck with you and
and we can get the get the Stags, I guess
off the downslope of what has been a pretty roller coaster,
see even right.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Well, they've certainly had the signs of looking like it
could have been a great season too. It's a bit
like the weather. It's sort of all seasons in one day.
We've got South and started all in one season, haven't
they really?
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Well, it doesn't seem that long ago that we, you know,
we we were cocker Hoope. We went off the back
of three wins in a row. We'd won the Ramfilly Shield.
The Stags had played two and a half very good
games of rugby and we were sort of looking at
you know, they with four games to go, two wins,
and maybe sneak a third one and get ourselves comfortably
(37:33):
into the playoffs for the first time in a long time.
But yeah, it's been the last few weeks have been
been a tough watch, haven't they. They've been some there've
been some big score lines, including that last YU think
against Wellington. I guess in terms of positives, we we
do know that Foller, Toy Penny and some mecI two
po tyl will be back for the Stags this week
(37:55):
and they've been two of our most impressive players this year. Obviously,
just had to sit out a game for for a
wee in discretion, but great to have them back and
and a chance, I guess for some redemption for them.
They'll they'll want to you would You would hope they'll.
They'll come out with I guess plenty of energy to
try and I guess redeem themselves a little bit from
(38:18):
you know, from from missing a game.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Yeah. I think Tasman obviously just got tipped up the
other day, but South and with the result coming down
here and they've been getting consistent sixties seventies put on them.
A team like Tasman, they've got to be pretty confident,
haven't they like, could we could we just upset the
applecat there they.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
They'll come down with a very good team, pretty much
a super rugby back line and with a stack mat
halfback with Jay Renton blues Man running in the number
nine jersey. But so it is a it is a
handy team. But I guess when I look out the
window and just look at sort of the weather we've
got at the moment, you know it probably doesn't necessarily
(38:58):
leand the South to open run running rugby for a
seven o'clock kickoff tonight. So you know, put that play
into our hands. Despite the score lines. You know, the
Stags that haven't wanted for position or territory in any
of the games that they've played, So if they can
if they can do that again, and they can just
sort of shore up this defense which has become pretty
poorous in the in the last few weeks. And then
(39:21):
also you know, hopefully they're that attack will come back
off the back of having Penny and two po Ty
Lawa and some of these other attacking guys. I do
probably my big concern would be Mitch Dunshe missing from
that sin. He's been an absolute tighten this season for
the Stags, and so I guess you know these players
that are going to have to stand up in that
(39:42):
tight five to make up for his absence.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Well, I'm a big believer too, all the way back
to ninety ninety four against Hawk's Bay winning the Tyson.
We've got to run home towards South and girls. That's
been the problem against counties in Canterbury. We just you know,
we ran the wrong way in the first half.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (39:59):
Interesting, and then you know why cant I sort of
work for us? But it's it's it seems so long ago,
doesn't it. But yeah, I mean with with two games
to go, I think the Stags are sort of sort
of limping home. But but you know, I think in
terms of the last home game of the season, this
this is a team they probably are the fans after
the last few weeks. They are the fans a hardy
(40:21):
performance and I guess that's what we'll ask for first
and if a win comes out of that, then great.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Been insane that too. Three years ago. If you were
told Southern we're going to win three games in a season,
you'd be pretty pumped.
Speaker 6 (40:32):
Yeah, I think, yeah, they've heard that point made a
couple of times this week, and I definitely don't disagree.
You know, if you had three wins and a ran
fairly shield, if you had offered it the Stags or
you know any Stags fan that with any time in
the last probably five years, we would have snapped your
arm off for it.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
You take it over a love win, wouldn't you.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
Yeah, yeah, that's dead right. So yeah, and you know,
as you say, you know they do. They've got a
chance for sure. I mean we probably gave them not
much of a crack against Bay plenty, we didn't give
them much crack of a crack against Wakato, So I
guess probably that's been the frustrating aspect of this roll
roller coaster riders, that we know that this team has
(41:11):
it in them and it's you know, it's a little
bit checkle and hide. So you know, hopefully we see
a bit more of Doctor Jack.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Or rather than mister Hyde no more playing other teams
in the form would be nicer. Yes, now there's a
smarmmount of a test match over the weekend. AB's wildbies.
How you thinking that's going to go?
Speaker 6 (41:32):
Uh? Well, I mean again, it's just such a hard
it's such so hard to get a good read on
this All Black team, isn't it. So you know, one
one week they're there, one week they're not there, So
that dell be This is probably one of the more
anticipated letters Low Cup classes.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
I think the Wilds are looking good.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
Yeah they are. They've got plenty of plenty of attacking power.
They've got a decent forward pack there. You know, you
can't go to Allis Park and knock over the springs
in their spiritual home without having something something about you,
So you know, obviously under Joe spit and they've got
the likes of Tom Donnelly and that in that coaching
box as well, plenty of New Zealand influence.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
So I guess we don't often have two shockers.
Speaker 6 (42:20):
No, I guess it's probably been a It's probably been
a pretty long fortnight for the All Blacks, hasn't it.
So I guess you know, for me, I'll be looking
probably I'll be looking to that All Black bench tomorrow
night when we do have to remember five o'clock kickoff
as well. Caught out with that, Yeah, I'll be looking
(42:42):
to that, to that bench probably. That's that's something that's
that hasn't necessarily been there hasn't been there consistently for
us this season and I'm and I'm sure Scott Robertson
will be hoping that those bench players can make it
an impact. We know the Australians wall they've been pretty
good finishers in some of their crunch games over the season.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Let's hope the AB's coming through now just quickly. We
are getting for the time. He's sorry, but there's also
cricket starting. Is that Wednesday? The first, isn't it?
Speaker 6 (43:10):
This is crazy, isn't it. We three T twenties Chapel
Headley series at the Mount against Australia and big Jacob
Duffy in the in the mix too. So great to
see him back in a black cat shirt with it
with the white ball and talking to him earlier in
the week he was fizzing about the opportunity just home
from England after playing in the hundred. So he's playing
(43:31):
at a really high level. It was. It's basically international standard.
The team that he was in had international players all
around him, so you know he's he's been able to
carry his form through so but this Australian team, boyd,
they've got some hitters. Basically they are guys that go
from ball one and all they want to do playan
a is basically just knock every ball out of the park.
(43:53):
So I'm going to be really interesting that series.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Yeah, didn't like a Formula one car? Aren't they just
million reeves per minute right from the start?
Speaker 6 (44:01):
Yeah, I think you know, you could go back and
look at this strike Craide, and I wouldn't I doubt
that there be a player betting in the top nine
that you know, don't have a strike rade that's not
under one hundred and twenty or something like Yet. These
guys just love to hit the ball. You've got Tim
David who comes in late in the piece and can
just absolutely smack it. So pear Old Jacob dupp in
(44:22):
the New Zealand bowlers are going to have the work
cut out for.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Them Here'll be right. Makes you proud to be a
good in Northern South and boy doesn't he?
Speaker 4 (44:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (44:28):
One hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (44:29):
All right mate, we'll wrap it up there. Thanks very
much for your time and we'll keep in touch in
I'm sure Andy will be back in touch with you
and plenty plenty of times before I am again. So
thanks for your time.
Speaker 6 (44:39):
Yes, thanks for that.
Speaker 11 (44:40):
Christ mate, laugh out loud with ag proud because life
on the land can be a laughing matter. Brought to
us by sheer Well Data working to help the livestock farmer.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Yeah, here's what I've got today. There are three types
of people this world, those who can't count and those
who can bom bomb. How about that one? Hey, Thanks
very much everybody. This has been Chris Wilson stepping in
for y Mere on the Muster Friday, the twenty sixth
of September. Have a great weekend. Go the Stags, go
(45:19):
to Targo and go the abs. Good on you.
