Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to the master the exponents. I'll say goodbye
even though I'm blue. For our next guest, Dean Rabbige.
He farms at Glennar, but he's also the president of
Wyndham Rugby, who got the three pete in the Division
one competition forty wins on the trot. Dean, Good afternoon,
and the first question is how alive are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, good afternoon, Andy. We're here. We're functioning, but we're
just going through the motions. There's nothing extra being come
next for sure.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Harvey Norman was talking to Chitty earlier on this morning.
I was having you on to the great Man, and
They'll be honest, he was struggling.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah. I when I left the club rooms yesterday they
saw a for a few guys down. They're looking though
they're going to kick on. So we are deserved celebrations too,
am dead.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Oh? Absolutely, Three in a row in that competition arguably
one of the best rugby comps you'll see. But for
you guys to go three in a row like you have,
that's a real feather in your cap. So you're doing
something right.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, it is, and it's something that the whole community
is very proud of and so it should be because
everybody's contributed to the club and its success over the
past three years or longer. Really Yeah, and especially the
HEAB one hundred and twenty fifth jubilee this year as well,
and see close to two thousand people packed the sidelines
and a full club rooms on Saturday night. It's pretty

(01:23):
special and it's yeah, it's pretty cool to be part
of to be honest.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Any So, you've won three titles in a row, would
this one be the one that means the most given
us one twenty fifth?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Oh yeah, certainly edged to it because we've had a
pretty awesome coaching group the last few years as well,
and a couple of those guys, Jimmy and Nuggie are
moving on to other things. So to send them off
the way the boys did as well, I was pretty
special also.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
And to beat the old foes Edendale. There's only four
kilometers that separates the two teams, but the rivalry there
is probably is a tear. This is what you'll find.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, how special is that? Just for the both communities
to have such strong rugby sides so close together and
just such a great rivalry. Yeah, it's I don't think
you can understand just how cool or how intense one
of those end Winden games are a littlelone being a
final arn unless you've been on the sideline and watched it, well,

(02:24):
you don't. You never know who's going to win, literally
till the last second. Neither team will ever go away,
and it's just yeah, real ding dong, and it's just
it's just rugby and it's best and sort of yeah.
Emphasizes the point that a lot of people feel that
they've won those the best played rugby conference out and really.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Do you know a few people are saying forty wins
in a row three three championship banners as such as
the time for Windon to look at Premier Rugby. Does
that come on to the table at all?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Oh yeah, Look, we had a few of those comments
over the weekend. But I guess it's really going to
have to cut from the players. And I suppose if
any of the guys wanted to be playing for Premier Rugby,
that's what the barbars are there for, and they would
support them one hundred percent if they wanted to go
and have a crack and play for the Barbers. But

(03:14):
everybody seems really heavy just playing for Windham, and I
suppose you've got to look at the wider club picture
a lot. We get a few guys straight out of
school each year and the one rugby seems to be
a manageable step up from first to teen rugby. And
then also I guess part of the successful head is
having a strong President's grade team that if they did

(03:35):
one boys get short, you can grab a few of them.
And I think potentially a step from President's grade to
premiere to fill the spot on the bench might be
but too far. So yeah, we've sort of got to
look at the big, bigger picture for the club. And
yeah we are in a golden patches, no denying that,
but it's never gonna last River. Nobody's too arrogant to

(03:56):
think that will. So yeah, we're just just going to
enjoy what we can. And when you look around, there's
lots of other clubs that are brought on the heels
of Windham, even though especially your Pioneers or ribsila need
to go away either. So yeah, we'll just enjoy it.
While the last I think I hope is.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It all about having a relationship with your local secondary
schools to get these players straight out of year thirteen.
Is that the key to getting club rugby to survive.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I think there has to be some sort of relationship
built there. I know that we have quite a few
means as boys coming along to trainings pre season that,
but inevitably a large send them head away for two
or three years for territory education in a few other things,
which is which is awesome to see as well. But
as long as you can build that relationship early and
they come back to the district or community at some stage,

(04:49):
then you've already got a relationship there. And they always
come back and knock on the door a windom and
turn up in January and start the preseason. So I
think I think every club ende to do that. So yeah,
it was something that you focus on against.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
As far as the farm where it goes today, I'd
imagine the weekend breaks that happened on Saturday, they'll all
be getting fixed up now.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah. I think there's a lot of planning goes into
a club rugby season, but I think finals weekend there's
the most planning that goes on is making sure that
the etiquette breaks up or adequately big enough for two
or three days, so the hall boys actually took all
their stock off crop full the weekend, and I suppose
it'd be going back onto that tomorrow. But yeah, it

(05:34):
was a bit of a catch up today scanning Hoggitts tomorrow,
so sitting up for that also, So yeah, we'll see
how that goes. But apart from that, we'll see you
getting everything back on deck.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Really, we're just watching that video of you guys singing
your team song. We're a bit considered that Met mccabee,
Met mccraye might break his hand. He was pretty enthusiastic
trying to use that table as a drum.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah. Look, it was a pretty enthusiastic atmosphere on there
yesterday and the Met was making the most of it
as well, So yeah, no, it was. It was a
good time. So he did the club rooms and have
a tidy up so and I suppose.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
So there's no point really talking about to you about
anything else today really because you guys are all just
pretty much got a one track mine with that with
that championship.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah, yeah, although we are still of starting to get
back at the work made and make sure things are
all good to go. So yeah, it's all good.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Okay, So who was VP and the party and the
celebration stakes. Who was the one two three?

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh, I think Nuggie would have taken away three, Jimmy
too and Silver were close. Swan I think would have
been the order from what I saw yesterday, so yeah,
well deserved.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Actually Stag days on set of that, you guys will
be taking a minibus down there.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, I think we do have a team in the
bus as we have to Stag days, so yeah, it's
normally a good day out too. Hopefully we get ten
thousand steak day. Quite cool, wouldn't it.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
And the life of a self and supporter happens yet again, Dean,
hey will let you carry on get your work done
so you can go and have a cap of tea
and a loie down You guys deserve it. Well done
once again, you know, thanks.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Any industry, Thanks for the community and everybody that's been
involved with the rugby club over that well since January.
Really the support's really appreciated and and you're all part
of success. So I hope everybody out there and Windham
is as proud of the boys and the club is
what I am. So yeah, thanks very much.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
De you Rabbage farming at Glenham. Wow. Down to Windom
Rugby and eden Dale for that meta to no mean
feat getting to where they got to. Clayton Peters is next.
