When the on air Mike goes off, the talk Talk begins. It's Talk
Talk with Martha Quinn. Dancing, dancing, dancing? Was was machine?
No? No, did you sayit's a washing machine? Oh my gosh,
Martha Quinn, please start the podcastand say this Welcome to Talk Talk
(00:20):
with Martha Quinn. Every week youget a different theme song. That's something
unique about this podcast. I don'tknow of any other podcast that starts with
a custom made theme song every singleweek. Producer Karina, what episode of
(00:41):
Talk Talk with Martha Quinn is this? We are on two hundred and six,
Believe it or not, Okay, two and six. This is the
podcast that unites me, Martha Quinnwith producer Queen of Alaskaz, who works
with both me and The Marth QuinnShow, and with Christy in Morning Drive
Christie Live. She's a little louderon the air. That was That was
(01:07):
Christy being the Warner Brothers frog rightthere, Remember the frog? Yeah only
Hello, my baby, Hello,Mahoney Michigan j Frog. Yes, Oh
god, that's memory. Yes,oh Christy, that was so good.
So well, ladies, before westart our discussion, which is going to
(01:30):
be dance songs, that are guaranteedto get us out on the floor and
doing our dance thing. You shouldknow there's two things that are very different
about me. I don't know ifthis is going to change how you relate
to me, but I feel Ishould tell you. Are you eating steak
now? Xnay on the ak?Stay? Okay? So you're still a
vegan? Yes, I think thatwould have been the big change for me.
(01:53):
So another big dietary change has takenplace. Oh I heard about that
y Mar still going. Quinn hasgiven up coffee for a few days now
almost a week, almost a week. But I do want to say I
don't know that I'm going to doit on the weekends. Oh okay,
(02:13):
I don't know because I feel likedrinking coffee is so much a part of
my identity. Like I just don'tknow if I want to give it up.
But I will say this, Inever thought in a million years i'd
be able to. I thought onetime I tried giving it up ages ago,
I had really bad headaches. Idon't think I could. Well,
(02:34):
I could do it without coffee.I usually do without coffee on the weekends,
which is rare, Like I don'tneed to have it every day.
I just love the taste of it. Well, I love the taste and
I also loved the caffeine. Butwhat happened was our primary espresso machine broke
and then we had a backup dripcoffee machine and it broke, and we
thought, Okay, before we buyanother coffee machine, maybe we should try.
(02:58):
Maybe this is the universe's way ofsaying, give up coffee. So
the first two days we did it, we actually went out and got coffee,
which you were like, okay, what did go get coffee? How
about that? Then we decided, okay, we'll try. And the first
or second day, Jordan went outto get bagels and he said, do
you want me to get coffee? And I said, no, I actually
feel okay. And so I've beendoing really well. I mean, you
(03:22):
have to get hopped up on something, that's my opinion. So I do
have green tea, but I thinkI'm going to try to continue through the
weekend, but maybe have a cup. I'm not sure. I just don't
know. Oh, cocaine's out ofthe question, you know. And the
(03:47):
other thing I need to tell youis ESPN is probably going to be calling
me any second. Are you playingtennis now or pickleball. Nope, I'm
not playing anything, but I'm inthe office. Maybe, oh, imp
reporter, Nope, I am apart owner of Oakland's newest baseball team,
the Oakland Ballers. You invested nice, well, I did. I went
(04:10):
to the website Oaklandballers dot com.I encourage everybody to do the same support
the team, and it said, would you like to reserve your ability to
become an owner when this gets upand running? And I said yes,
and I clicked it. So it'sbasically a done deal. Done deal,
Yeah, done deal. I'm anowner of the Oakland Ballers. Please make
(04:31):
sure they stay in Oakland. Iknow, I know. Otherwise Marshawn Lynch
will have to go to the citycouncil. You know, the football player
who went to the city council andafter the Raiders were gone, and at
that point it was just the Warriorswho were leaving, but it looked like
maybe the A's were going, andMarshawn Lynch went to the city council and
(04:51):
he said, we can't lose anymore teams. Yeah, so much for
that, Yeah, that part.I think you'd he's more effective, though,
Martha quid If you went to thecity council. But hopefully that doesn't
happen, and I'm sure with youas part owner of the Oakland Ballers it
won't. That's right, we willstay in the town. So I wanted
(05:13):
to ask you, ladies, becauseI went to a wedding and I left
before the dancing and my daughter saidto me, Oh, it's so good
you left. They didn't play anyclassic music. I was like, what,
no, Jon Jack and the Blackhearts. I love Rockerrol. She goes
nope, I got no play thatfunky music. She goes nope. I
go no, you know def Leppard, pour some sugar on me. She
(05:33):
goes no. My, oh,so glad I left. So I thought
I would ask you, guys, what are your favorite songs that are guaranteed
to get you flying out onto thedance floor. Christy James go, I
think earth Wind and Fire September.I'm a DJ. That is a song
that I always play because I knowfor sure it's gonna get everybody out on
(05:54):
the dance floor. And if itcomes on, I will dance to some
earth Wind and Fire pretty much. You can get me out there when it
comes to earth Wind and Fire.Another song that always gets me out on
the dance floor would have to bepretty much any Prince song, not any
Prince song, Yeah, any printsong. Well, like, would you
(06:15):
be like rocking out to nothing comparesto you? Let's say be a slow
song, then it would be aslow dance Okay, yeah, all right,
Prince, I'm there. I'm supporting, and you know, as far
as dance music goes, any CrystalWater song so gypsy woman or one hundred
percent pure love kind of that ninetieshouse music, it's a win for me
(06:38):
every time. How does it go, gristy one hundred percent pure love from
the back to the middle and aroundagain. I'm gonna be there to one
hundred percent pure love? Yeah,so yeah, yeah, nineties house music.
I'm there. What do you think, Christy? From your point of
view as a DJ, what doyou notice? What song can you play
(07:01):
that you know everybody's gonna go flockingto the dance floor? Like I said,
September earth Wind and Fire every singletime? Wait, Christy, you
do you said before that isn't therea Hall of Notes song that people like?
Really? The people like you makemy dreams. But earth Wind and
Fire September is the song if yourdance floor is flailing, if it's dying
(07:26):
a slow death and you're like,oh my god, nobody is dancing.
You drop the earth Wind in FireSeptember. It used to be you drop
the Bruno Mars Uptown Funk, butpeople are kind of tired of that one.
But that one or the Killers MisterBrightside, which is like the new
Don't Stop Believing by Journey for kindof millennials. Mister Bright's side is there,
(07:49):
Don't Stop Believing by Journey. Whatabout rappers to light Sugarhill Gang.
I think that one's a fun oneand people like to sing along, but
after the first verse people don't knowit, you know, so you can
play a little bit of it.But after that hip hop and then the
Hotel Motel Holiday Inn part, peopleare kind of like, Okay, is
(08:11):
that the one that gets you outon the dance floor? Martha Quinn,
what is the one that is definitelyone that's on my list? I thought
I had an air tight list, and then the other day I posted it
on Twitter and so many people cameup with really good suggestions. Like our
friend Renee said, cooling the Gangcan get herd doing the boogie and I
was like, yes, that's anothergood one. Jungle Boogie. Okay.
(08:33):
Karina of Alaska's how about you knowwhat about you? Martha Quinn, I
just asked, Okay, I know, I know that I first Well,
Christy just said, nor let meandon't know, don't list hold on.
What's like Crystal Water? Okay?Crystal Water is the summer list of September
(09:00):
on Martha's list, Now, okay, this was my air tight list.
Jones on the Blackhearts, I loverock and roll, Jeff Leppard, Pour
some Sugar on Me, The Commodore'sBrick House, Jackson five Rock and Robin
play that funky music, Wild Cherryand Run dmc It's Tricky, which is
(09:20):
fairly new on my list in thatwe had one of our eighties cruises and
that song got played and all ofa sudden I was like, oh my
god, this is so. Thisis such a good one. I forgot
how good this is. So thatis now on my list. Run DMC's
It's tricky because it's really good. You cannot not dance to it. That's
true. It's a good sing along. This is all stuff that I would
(09:43):
play at a wedding. But therock and Robin. Why that one?
I know, didn't you say thatwas like one of your ultimate songs?
Such a good song. But doddit all day long? Da do little
d love to hear the ago tweettweet tweet rock and Robin. It is
a good song. It is.Aren't you dancing already? You can't stop?
(10:05):
Maybe not to your version as yousung show You're right, that is
a really good song. It's sucha happy song. So it's synonymous with
your vibe and it's just got agood consistent fat you can like really go
(10:26):
and when you play that song, the Robin is gonna be flying out the
door because it won't be on thedance floor. It'll be flying out the
door because I don't see people migratingto a floor I'm talking about. I
like it, Okay, it migratingcute, that's good, But I just
(10:46):
marked the quid. I know it'syour list. I just don't see people
like all migrating to the dance floorrocking Robinson, Let's go dance, Let's
do the job. But you knowwhat, that's not necessarily dang, that's
try Clara, try it at yournext wedding, just for me, try
it just as a science experiment. No, I believe that people would dance
to it, because you're right,it is a familiar song, and I
(11:09):
find that people dance to fun andfamiliar songs, and everything on your list,
Brick House, Pour some Sugar onMe, the Rock and Robin,
those are all fun and familiar singalongs are what gets people on the dance
floor because if you're not a dancer, you can stand there and kind of
bop around and sing along. Andall of those songs are kind of party
(11:31):
songs. It's tricky, and theyall have that kind of hard, funky
beat where you can, you know, just like a driving, fun,
party, upbeat song. So Ilike your list, Martha Quinn, and
I would play that, and Ido play those songs. Rock and Robin
not a go to, but oneI'm not opposed to because I know it
would get people probably moving. Maybenot Karina, but other peoples living Color
(11:56):
contributed to my list. They contributedtheir own Glamour Boys, and I said,
yes, that's a good one.I don't know about it. I
don't know what Glamour boys. Cansomeone sing it for me? Glamour Boys,
Glamour Boys, it's the song theyhad other than culture personality, and
it's a really good one. Loveculture personality. That was a great That's
a pretty good one too. Yeah, we don't have time for yours anymore
(12:20):
creative. I'm just kidding out oftime, crea. Let's hear yours right.
Somebody says Stomp by the Brothers Johnson. That is a great one.
That's a good one. Not everyoneknows it so, but people you know
it if you heard it, Yeah, it's so good. It is so
good, by the way. Followme on Twitter, Merth Quinn on Twitter
slash x okay, go ahead,Karina Felasqez Well, I'm gonna stay out
(12:43):
of time. Agree with Christy thesongs that people can sing along to one
of them for sure, his journeys. Don't Stop Believing. That is a
song that's going to get you onthe dance floor every single time. Yeah.
I like to still dance to that, and I'm always like, oh
yeah, oh School Heart of Glassby Blondie, Believe it or not,
that's one on my go to songs. If you play that, I'll be
on the dance floor. And thenthe Gap band early in the morning,
(13:05):
you're gonna say you jumped to bombon me. Okay, early and early
Yeah, now you know sing Wow, that's not the worst it, or
is it? Mary Jane Girls,Nope, Candy Man, that is a
great that's my jam Ben the Morning. Thank you. Christy. Hey,
(13:31):
you could speak breakfast in my pin. Yeah, that is that is my
song. I'll just play it athome and then dance in the kitchen to
it by myself. I'm going toadd that one to rotation of that song.
That's a great one. Forget aboutthat song. I always play all
Night Long, which is another songthat gets people moving because it's a single
long Lionel Richie Nope. The MaryJane Girls, oh long. I want
(13:54):
to give it to you, Yes, because they can sing along. Even
if you're not a dancer, you'restill having a good time singing along.
Yeah, that's true. And I'mwith Christy as far as in the nineties,
kind of that old school like aCC Peniston. Finally, it just
happened to me right in front ofmy face, and we are sorry about
(14:15):
all of this horrible singing that isgoing on on the Talk Talk with Martha
Quinn podcast right now. Okay, this is not sing sing with nobody,
Ladies, nobody signed up for this. Nope. Oh they're like ooh.
We usually get that first five secondsof singing and then it's like, m
(14:35):
now you've gotten a whole podcast.Well, we kind of have to,
because you know, if you werejust to you know, say, okay,
I love to dance to the Reflex, you know, the one that
goes, You've gone too far thistime, but I'm dancing on the Valentine.
(14:56):
I'll tell you somebody's fooling around withmy chances on the danger line.
It's like not quite the same,no, but if you say the refects,
no, exactly right. I liketo add one last song to my
dance list. I would like toadd the Black Eye peas I got a
(15:18):
feeling. I love it. Ilove that song. That's another song that
transcends generations because you know, ifyou're older, you're like, I know
this song. It's like kind ofa cool song that I know. And
if you're younger, you're like,oh, I know this song. You
know, it's a cool song thatI know. Once again, like that,
(15:41):
you know, like Commodore's Brookowser Earthwhen in Fire, September or Journey
Don't Stop Believing. They're all funsongs that transcend time because good music is
good music? Or can you dothe dizzle dance dance? That's it,
that's thing. Yes, yes, yes, my list is getting longer,
(16:03):
but I know that's what happens. That's exactly what happens. Then your list
just gets longer and longer, whichis good, so that Christy can add
our suggestions to her list. Ohwait, no, just Coarina's suggestion,
not mine. No, I toldyou all of your songs I play with
the exception of Red Robin, butI'm not opposed to it. Red Robin
rock and Robin, I'm sorry. Is that the Jackson five's new version?
(16:26):
That was the Jackson nine? Thatwas a knockoff band. But you know
my favorite restaurant. That's why it'sa Freudian slipped there. You know they
rock around the Burgers Vegan Burgers theday long. Christy, what about anything
from Saturday Night Fever? Does thatget people out on the dance floor still?
(16:48):
Or Stay in Alive is a bigsong right now? Stay in Alive
is having a moment on the dancefloor. Yes, you know, disco
right now is really big, especiallyamongst kind of millennials and what's the generation
after that gen Z that X yZ. I don't know, but yes,
disco is big, I think stillamongst all of the ages. Oh,
(17:12):
that reminds me Casey in the SunshineBand. That's the way. Uh
huh uh huh, I like it. That's a good one. Mmm,
you're not gravitating to that. Yeahno, I said, Yep, I
play. I know what you said. It's how you said it. You
can even have Yep, that's aI like it what they said, Casey
(17:33):
is I like it? Interesting aboutdisco? What are the disco songs any
Donna? Summer hot girls I meanbad girls, I'm sorry, hot stuff
and bad girls getting her mixed up. That's good and then do a lipa
because she's current. But she hasa disco sound. So new disco is
(17:56):
what they call it in you newdisco disco? What about is abba disco?
Abba is disco? And Jimmy GimmyGimmy having a moment. Have you
heard that song resputant? I haveto hear, uh Bonie m Yeah,
my dast sings at rest. That'snot it. I know what you're talking
about. Okay, my dad playedit all the time. Yep. Bonie
(18:18):
m is an artist from back inthe seventies and he has a song called
Resputant and that is a huge dancehit. So interesting. Yeah, so
a lot of the disco once againtranscending because good music stands the test of
time and good music will get youout on the dance floor all the time.
(18:41):
