Speaker 1 (00:01):
WELLI icon, the legend, the queen of rock and roll,
the one and only Tina Turner has passed away. Now
this was after an extended illness. The illness was undisclosed.
Miss Tina was eighty three years old. Angela Bassid paid
tribute to the late Tina Turner, whom she portrayed, of course,

(00:22):
in the nineteen ninety three movie What's Love Got to
Do with It. Angela said in part quote, how do
we say farewell to a woman who owned her paint
and trauma and used it as a means to help
change the world through her courage and telling her story,
her commitment to stay the course in her life, no

(00:42):
matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a
space and rock and roll for herself and for others
who look like her. Other stars have paid tribute to
the late great Tina Turner, of course Oprah who was
her friend, Ringo Starr, one of the Beatles, Elton John,
Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Rod Stewart,

(01:05):
Mick Jagger, and of course Beyonce. Wow wow, yeah, true.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Legend, true, true legend. That was really you know, that
was that was a shocker. Yesterday I found out while
I was working, guy came out on stage and told
me on a commercial break and he said it to
me whispered, and I repeated it, but I had my

(01:32):
mic on in front of the audience and they just gasped,
you know. But you know, and then after that the
whole thing started that they got all these lists out
about the top fifty iconic female voices, the top thirty

(01:54):
best females who changed the music, and Tina Turners on
all those lists, just all of the lists, you know, rightfully,
So I mean, you know, you know, when things like
this happened, you know, we all started saying things. Now.
I never met her and never had the opportunity to
Meeta ever before. It's just she just had one of

(02:16):
those careers. I think what happened, similar to what Angela
Bassett was saying, was her walk. Her walk. Her life
story was such an inspiration to so many, you know,
who come from the bottom, or who go through hard times,
tribulations and still somehow by the grace of God making.

(02:40):
I think she had one of those types of lives
that was a testimony to grit and faith and endurance
and uplifting perseverance, and you know, I just think it
was one of those types of lives. Man.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, she brooks so many barriers steep she I mean
from age you know, she was doing rock and roll
when she came up. Then you know, they were saying
that she was I mean, she was doing R and
B when she came up. Then they were saying she
aged out, you know, but then she wanted to prove
that she could not only do R and B, but
she could also do rock and roll. You know, she

(03:15):
had so many doors closed in her face, but she persevered.
I mean even after what she had gone through with Ike,
and she persevered. Then she wanted to break into movies.
She was able to do that. I mean, just on
and on. What a testament her life is for never
giving up and to you know, just to continue going

(03:35):
in spite of everything, just keep it moving. And that's
what she did.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
And inspired so many people. I mean, you look at
Beyonce today on stage, if she the way she performs
does not remind you of Tina Turner all the way,
all the concerts, Tina Turner's concert It's so many people

(04:02):
at her concepts concerts a lot, yes, oh yes, yes, yes, yes,
so many of them.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
The energy of the beauty.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
From Ludbush, Tennessee, good girl, as lyrics man lyrics of
the song.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Just everything about her, everything, her iconic legs. I mean,
who had those legs? Those legs?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
What's your favorite though, Proud Mary? What's your pro?

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Mary? All day pro Mary?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
See what's your favorite?

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Of course?

Speaker 3 (04:42):
My favorite is What's Love Got to Do?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
What's Love got to do with?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
That was probably my favorite song. You know, it was
just crazy the way she worked. Yeah, her her work ethic,
I mean, what's she endured. It's just it's just one
of them worries. Man, it's a Cinderella story. But this
Cinderella story was was racked with pain. And it was

(05:08):
a public pain too, And I mean it was it
was well documented and known what was happening to this woman,
you know, in her personal life. And again, you know,
you know, we get in the mix like this was
in a week, this was Jim Brown. You know, a
lot wasn't said about the passing of Jim Brown. But

(05:28):
you know, if you're from Cleveland and or if you're
really a real football fan, you understood what the passing
of Jim Brown meant. Man just in terms of social
justice and what he did for black people, and how
he stood up as an athlete, how he threw all
caution to the wind. How they him, Kareem Abdude, Jabbar,

(05:51):
Bill Russell and everybody went to the aid of Muhammad
al Li when he decided not to be inducted, when
he refused to fight in the Vietnam War. How they
all rallied around him. A gym was there, gym was
there before that. And so you know this this week
right here is you know, losing two icons in a

(06:13):
week is tough. But because they were so much older,
you know, as opposed to a Kobe passing or something
like that. You know, it just didn't get the social media.
And now Tina's getting social media. Yeah, a lot of accolades,
you know, but sometimes this younger generation just doesn't really.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Know the.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Applications and the impact that some of these people had
that made it even possible for your new stars to survive,
thrive and do the things they all.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Right, coming up in twenty minutes after the hour, we'll
have more of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Right after this,
you're listening Harvey Morning Show, The Queen of Rock and roll,
Tina Turner has passed away. What a shocker this was MS.
Tina was eighty three years old, Steve. Her concerts were amazing.

(07:13):
Former President Barack Obama said that Tina Turner was raw,
she was powerful, she was unstoppable, and she was unapologetically
herself speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain,
triumph and tragedy. Today we joined fans around the world
and honoring the queen of rock and roll. And that's

(07:34):
so true. She was global and they're calling her story
one of the greatest or the greatest comeback story in
the history of music because of what she endured and
how she came back, and it was on top of
not just the United States, but the world the great.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Seeing her as a kid, seeing her on the Johnny
Carson Show, she was major man.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
She choreographed those dance moves that she did with the the.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Show US well, ain't nobody else know how to do
it and had nobody done it before, So there was
just it had to be her, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
I was reading on to see they were saying that.
Back in March, she talked about her health and not
taking better care of herself when it came to issues
with her kidney and that she should have taken medication
more regular, you know, to help with hot blood pressure,
you know, the chronic diseases that set in as you

(08:34):
age high cholesterol.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, whenever we lose somebody, there's lessons to be learned,
even a loss. You know, often say behind every moment
of adversity, there's a lesson and a blessing, you know,
And I mean, we should take the time out just
like they do it most funerals, to remind people that
those of us that are still here that we got

(08:57):
to be mindful that were on that same path. And
you know, you can quicken the trip, you can worsen
the trip, or you can lengthen the trip, or you
can smooth out the trip. With the decisions that we
make and a lot of these issues we have and
our health issues, and it's sad to hear when a
person says, I should have took better care of myself.

(09:19):
I should have been a little bit more mindful of
my medicine schedule, I should have watched what I eat.
And I think that all of us, you know, have
something to learn from that statement right there. I wish
I had it because I don't want to wait until
I can't do anything about my health. You know. Yeah,
we can all get on the health and wellness journey.

(09:41):
No matter where you are right now, if you still here,
you have a chance to do something. You know, trip,
that's true.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
If you get a chance to, please watch the documentary
I Tina, I Tina. It's on Netflix, it's out there,
it's streaming.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
And all morning long, we are Tina turn of music.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
All right.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Coming up, we'll have more of The Steve Harvey Morning
Show as we celebrate the life of Tina Turner. Right
after this. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
