Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Big Boys Neighborhood on Demand.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Ladies and gentlemen. It is a pleasure to put this
group back together. Yes, yes, back man, and thank you
for Will Smith. First off, I got to say thank
you for begging to do this interview.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
I was like, yo, Man, you're know Big because because
you know, I know you was busy, right yeah, yeah,
at some point you're gonna have to like sit down
with me, man.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Man, And you know what, there's a such thing called
busy and I'm busy.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
But if somebody say too busy, that's wrong. You know
what I'm saying, I'm not too busy for you. Man.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
So I'm glad you waited to even hold the project
till I was uh.
Speaker 6 (00:34):
Yeah, he was ready. I was like, I ain't dropping
nothing until Big is ready to sit down. You know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
I thank you for that. Yes. It's like, man, because
we go back what made you get back on the mic?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Bro, Like like back to the MC the first Prince
that we know well first.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
And foremost there is nothing in entertainment like music, you know,
And just a couple of years ago, Man, something just
exploded inside of me, you know, and it's like I
just really I took some time after the Oscars and
like just went in and I found a crazy well
(01:11):
of new ideas and creativity. And life has a way
of showing you the mysteries, you know, and giving you
the cheat codes, you know.
Speaker 6 (01:22):
So I got more.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
To say than I've ever had to say in my life.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Is it everything to you? Still?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Like therapeutic happiness, you know what I'm saying. Like, there's
just something about music that when you created. Of course
you do great movies, but is it something different when
you were either writing or somebody got your voice, you know, So.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
What happens with movies when you play another character? Of
course there's a part of it that's like exploring yourself,
but you're exploring the world. You're exploring other minds, you're
exploring other people's thoughts. But with music, it's what I think,
it's what I feel. It's like what comes out of me,
you know. And I just feel like I'm a better
(02:07):
poet than I've ever been, more confident than I've ever been,
and I'm just excited to explore and share.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
We'll continue to share, y'all. Stick around your radios.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
We got more with Will Smith in the Neighborhood, Big
Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
This is Big Boy on Demand, Big Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
We got the one and only Will Smith up in here.
Will Smith.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Do you consider this a return to hip hop or
do you feel like you never left now?
Speaker 4 (02:34):
And I feel that, you know, hip hop is just
what I am. You know what I mean. It's it's
it's a way that I think about the world. It's
like I was born and seasoned in hip hop, you know,
so even when I moved into television and film, it
was still with that flavor little bit something like that.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
You know, if it would have been successful, you would
have never came.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
But but this is one of those things.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I look at it, man, and I say, there's just
this love that we have for this man, and it's
like the booth, the you know what I'm saying. And
I'm pretty sure, bro, that's like that's innate, that's almost
in like the bone marrow, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
It's like and what it's grown to for me is
like self self expression where things come out now that
you know, even I didn't know it was going to be.
It's like music for me is like a way to
uh collaborate and meet artists around the world and and
(03:40):
like it's it's brand new for me. The game is
new too, so that's a that's another thing. I'm inspired
to study and and figure out how to you know,
find my way in this in this new landscape. So
it's it's all I'm just I'm hype, man. I'm like,
I'm really really inspired. I started doing a couple of shows,
(04:03):
so I've been doing You're doing smaller shows, you know,
working with smaller crowds, And the world is so desperate
for nostalgia right now.
Speaker 7 (04:15):
Man.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
People like hearing them old records back when you know,
times were a little.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Bit bit and we love familiar, all familiar. We love familiar,
we love the sale.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
And there's just something when you even in summertime, when
you say that smell from a grill, nostalgia, that's what
this is. Both there and there's something about where it's
not like a will is back or it's just this
feeling like it almost felt like you took it off.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Pauls. Yeah, right, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
So what happened?
Speaker 4 (04:45):
And I don't even think people realize, like me and
Jeff have never done a tour like we were on
people's tours. We did spots on people's toores, but we
won the Grammy in nineteen eight and The Fresh Prince
of bel Air started in nineteen ninety, so I never
(05:06):
had a chance to do the kind of things I
wanted to do in music.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
I was really single based. You know.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
We would do a single attached to the movie. You know,
we we're bad boys. We went to Miami one song
about Miami. But I've never really, you know, had the
opportunity to build a show the way that I wanted
to build a show. So that's the process that I'm
in right now.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
You go back to the way it was too though.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Oh no, I mean like no, I'm talking about like
I'm talking about Fresh Prince like a like a raggedy bus.
Speaker 5 (05:39):
You know, none of this will smith double decky, Like yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
I think we I think we probably not gonna do that.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
Yeah, I was doing I was doing too much.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
You're doing too about But I understand you're you're craving
from the Sad.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Year, somebody. I understand, and I threw it out there.
Those are just brainstorms. Then we go ahead and say
you're not gonna do that, right, because that's.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
All Yeah, yeah, no, we go We're Gonnafinitely definitely do
it big Willy as you should.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
We have more will Smith in the neighborhood. You'll continue

Speaker 5 (06:22):

Speaker 7 (06:24):
It's from me, it's a bad idea, y'all stick around,
y'all radio, bro.
Speaker 6 (06:29):
What's happening?
Speaker 7 (06:30):
Myra has a couple of friends who have birthdays this
month and they're thinking about celebrating together.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Right, so it's a girl's night out.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
I'm not invited, right, So now that I'm not invited,
and matter how you dress on it and no matter
no matter what you put on, and we have a babysitter,
can I do a guys night out to say nights?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I would think so, I don't think so at all.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Babysitter is going to be there.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
Yeah's mom's going to be there.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Myra's mom was there probably just to help you out.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
And now you want to take advantage and go out
with your boys because she wanted to go out with
her girls.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Is that bad now that she put it that way.
Thank you for listening.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
It is. You're finding a big boy, big boy's neighborhood.
You could catch more of us right here on iHeartRadio.
Our exclusive with Will Smith in the neighborhood. Man, Will,
we had a conversation over twenty years ago, close to
twenty five years ago, and I had you in the
neighborhood and we were talking and we're doing the Big
and Will Smith thing.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Well, let me put your name first, because you're biger guy.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
Yeah, we're doing Will Smith and Big.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
That was tachyopot Josh.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
The people in the common like why you put his
name urse, But we were having just this kind of
conversation and when we got off air, I remember you
spoke with him.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
You said Big, You said how old are you?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
And I told you my age at the time, and
then you were like, man, you said, you know, what
about your health? And you said you know, and I'm like, oh,
you know, And I don't know if I was kind
of like, oh, you know, did the big boy thing.
And then you really got in and you said, what
about your heart? You know, what about your life? And
I was so happy in the skin I was in.
I wasn't like the you know, I wouldn't did work though,
(08:09):
you know what I'm saying. Then I realized I wasn't
as happy as I was. I find out a few
years ago, you know.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
What I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
But it was one of those things where even when
we did the weight loss Challenge, right, and we did
a thousand dollars per pound and I lost one hundred
eleven pounds and you kick started my health my journey,
I'm telling you will. I felt like if I didn't
do something that I would have been dead in a year.
And you took some time and you spoke to me,
(08:38):
and it changed my life. Bro.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
You know what I'm saying. I didn't have my wife. Well,
I was with my girl. Then who's my wife?
Speaker 6 (08:46):
Now?
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I didn't have my wife, I didn't have my kids.
I wasn't going to make it to that. And you
took the time. And even at the time when we
did the weight loss Challenge, you said, man, I'm gonna
check in with you every week and this that, and
I was like, I wasn't even thinking about my health.
I was just it's like, oh, this is great radio
and Willa every week, you know what I'm saying. And
then when I lost one hundred eleven pounds, you donated
(09:09):
one hundred eleven thousand dollars to charity. Now I'm going
to tell you checked in every week as soon as
I would have got If I would have did that
to somebody else and they would have been like, man,
I'm down five pounds, I would have been like, that's
five thousand.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
I got to kill him. You know what I'm saying.
But you stayed. You stayed with it. And I'm telling you, man,
just as a human being, you changed my life.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Now, let me tell you my side of that. So
I've always heard like whispers.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Right, so you know, I'll be in a situation something's
going on, and I'll just I'll hear something. And I
was like, we're doing an interview, and you know, I
heard he's not gonna make it. And I was like,
and it just in that moment, because I just said it.
(09:57):
In that moment, you know that I want to take
on this bet and do it. And it was the
only way that I could think. But I got a
chill when I was sitting there. And you know, ever
since I was a little boy, I always had those
moments where you would like, you know, just something just
comes over you so strong and you can't avoid it.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
And you know, for me to sit here and look
at you.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Now, and.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
That's not easy, No, that's not easy.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
What you did, that's like and like you like did
it kept it off the amount of changes you had
to make to to sustain that for decades and not
slip back into whatever the emotional habits are. And it's
like to me, like that that that's that's the height
of humanity for me, Like what we shared in that moment, like,
(10:47):
that's the highest of what I want to do in
this world.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
So, you know, thank you for taking it on and
owning it. More days, more life, man, Thank you brother.
Y'all stick around your radios.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Man.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
We got Will Smith in the neighborhood, Big.
Speaker 1 (11:02):

and check out Radio bigboy dot com, Big Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Our exclusive Will Smith is up in here, our exclusive
Will Smith.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
How much rapper are you today? You know it's new,
it's new, and that's the thing that I'm really excited about.
I did the current record, Beautiful Scars with Big Sean.
I did a record a couple months ago with Russ
Rusbast Oh my god, Sean's beast. Yeah, Like, learning from
other artists is where I'm at right now. One of
(11:37):
the things that you know, when I transitioned from music
to television and then the transition from television to movies
and then ultimately into producing, one of the major things
for me is always go back to beginner mind. Don't
try to take you know, your success from music into film.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, all the.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Way humbled back to I'm a brand new artist, you know,
And that's where I'm at right now. It's like I
am a brand new artist, and uh, you know, I'm
trying to, you know, make my way. So I want
to collaborate with people that I respect. I'm want to
collaborate with people who sound like I want to sound,
and who are talking about the things I want to
talk about. And you know, it's a beautiful time in
(12:23):
my life. Why Big Sean for Beautiful Scars.
Speaker 6 (12:25):
So Big Sean we met five years ago.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
He's had a lot of human growth.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Oh listen, you know, he's a whole new dude. Right now.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
And we were at the bell Air the new show
to bell Air. We were at the promos for that,
and he was like, yo, I heard you back in
the studio. And he was like, let me hear something,
and you know, so.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Are you nervous, terrified?
Speaker 6 (12:54):
You want to hear terrified? Terrified?
Speaker 4 (12:58):
You know? So I played a couple of things, played
the rust track for them and he was like, oh,
you trying to be there. And so then we started
talking about concepts and then the beautiful scars idea came up.
We were talking about the idea of how difficult times
can turn out to be the.
Speaker 6 (13:18):
Best thing that ever happened.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
The testimony, the test yes, like it's hard to accept
that your challenges and your adversities and write where you
are right now in that difficult place is.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
Going to be the greatest thing that ever happened to you.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Sometimes we can't see that. Yeah, when it's going on
to that what that means to you?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Beautiful scars with beautiful scars is for me, it's like
that the paradox of a beautiful scar.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
Big Sean actually brought up.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
He was talking about there's a Japanese art called kent
Sugi And what they do is they take broken dishes. Right,
So you'll drop a dish or something, you break it,
and rather than throw it away, they repair it with gold. Right.
So you have these broken dishes that have been put
back together with all of these cool gold stripes in it.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Right.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
So what it is is that the new dish, the
one that was repaired with the gold, actually is better
than the original dish. So the broken one is more
beautiful than the original.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Man, you explained that, so well, y'all stick around, y'all radios.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Man, we got more of our exclusive Will Smith in
the neighborhood, Big Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
I ain't even this neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Adies, you're pint a big boy from Big Boys Neighborhood
on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Here's another in case you missed it, moment.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
With us.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
Taylor.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
All right, eather, what are some things you would rather
do with all your significant other?
Speaker 5 (14:47):
Go to brunch with my friends.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
So I don't want my man to be there because
I can't have my girl talk.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
I can't sit there and talk to my man. Wait,
that's what girls do. Yes, we run our mouth about
our know.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Yes, that's all we do.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Is it like?
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Wait, wait, is it a rule.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
It's not a rule, but I mean, all of us
girls get together. We know we have nothing else to
talk about.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
But the things that are mended us.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Off was considered brunch or just like an angry meeting.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It's brunch.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
We're drinking champagne and talking to Thank you for listening.
It is you're pointing a big Boy Big Boys neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
You can catch more of us right here on iHeartRadio,
Big Boys Neighborhood. Will Smith in the neighborhood, now, Will
There's a line that you say, Yeah, you say I
hate it when I lose it, but I make music.
So why did I do it? See, I'm only human.
Do you ever And I was just saying, do you
ever feel like the pressures? And we all feel them
with family, outside influences, you know, and then we got
(15:46):
these things that's enough where it's like hip hop enough, corporate, enough,
street enough, like one of those pressures. When I see
you say I hate it when I lose it, I
make the but I make the music. I think it's
like that's just what it is, right, that is in
the fiber of life. And you know, one of the
realizations for me is. You don't have a hard time
(16:09):
because you're somehow bad. You have a hard time because
a hard time is what life is.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
You're having a hard time because that's God's design, you know,
for us to struggle and to start to look at
everything as curriculum. The situation that I'm in, You're in
is curriculum. Jay Shetty said something that was really cool.
He said, life is like school with one really critical difference.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Right.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
In school, you get the lesson and then you get
the test. In life, you get the test first and
you have to extract the lesson. And it's like that's
the idea around Beautiful Scars.
Speaker 6 (16:54):
Sean got it.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Were you afraid to make that kind of record first
or did you feel like it was perfect timing?
Speaker 6 (17:01):
Yeah, I'm really scared to make this kind of music.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Specifically, there's a there's a thing that there's a brand
that is Will Smith, and the brand is slightly different
from the man. The brand is just a really narrow
slice of what the man is, and the man has
expanded in a way that the brand can almost feel
(17:28):
like a prison, right right right, So I'm trying to
make my way where like the brand has been really
good to me right it's just not everything that I am.
I'm a whole lot more so I'm trying to find
my artistry and my creativity to deliver the broader you know, picture,
(17:51):
do you.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
Owe that to yourself? You know, you don't owe it
to us?
Speaker 6 (17:55):
No, I it is what I am. I do feel
like I'm meant to be more, do more, say more.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
When I look at the world right now, I feel
like there's a brand of medicine that is the artist
that I am that wants to be in the world
saying and doing and creating and making positive change.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
And it's definitely art for me.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
And I think art is the way I will help
add a little elixir to some of the difficulty that
I see in the world.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Right now, y'all stick around, y'all radios. We got more
of our exclusive with Will Smith in the Neighborhood, Big
Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Big Boys Neighborhood on demand.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
For more, subscribe to our YouTube channel, big Boy TV,
and check out Radio big Boy dot com, Big.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Boy Neighborhood our exclusive with Will Smith in the Neighborhood. Man, Will,
if you see someone struggling right now, and we're all
we all struggling with everybody cars.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
Here's the here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
And one of the things that I what's the message
to every single person is having a hard time. Every
single person you drive past on the freeway, every single
person you walk by in that store, that person that
looks like is they might be being a at the moment,
at the moment, they're having a hard time, you know.
(19:21):
And that was one of the major epiphanies that is
like fueling this next phase of my artistry. It's like, oh,
it's not some people are having a hard time, every
single person. And you never know when that word that
you say or that thing that you do is going
(19:43):
to break somebody. And if you're going to be a
tipping point in somebody's life, do you want to be
the tipping point that sends them down or do you
want to be the tipping point that lifts.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
Them back up.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
With so many accolades and got so many things, what
keeps you motivated? And what's the what's a goal for Wilson?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
You know what's really strange, it's because I've achieved a
lot that I'm motivated. Right, I achieved material right, I
achieved materially. That was one of the things that was
really crazy about the oscars For me, that was like
the final material thing I ever wanted. Got you, right,
(20:22):
I was like finished with the material world and it
was scary. But what's got opened up is the whole
other like world of interior growth and expansion and like
my inner landscape has exploded in a way.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Right.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
So you know when I talk to you now, we
can talk about surface things, and we can talk about
the music, and we can have fun. But I know
that there's things going on in your life. I often
know specifically you got some stuffy went on that I'm
gonna either help you when you go home. I'm gonna
(21:04):
send you home with positive energy. I'm gonna send you
home with an attitude.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
And have it go down.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Do you know a negative Rather you send me home
with cash?
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Cash right now? But if I sent you home with cash,
you'd be in a great mood, right, And you go
with that, is right?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
You know what I'm saying that And let me figure
it out by myself with the cat this this didn't
make me happy, Like.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Send me home with one point five and find happiness.
You know what I'm saying. I thought, I did you
know I happy, you know.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
And then I figured out Will housed me up, and
I thought that that was gonna be great.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Now I got this big ass house. Yeah, and I'm lonely, yes,
and I'm loaning it. But you know what, I'll still
take it though, you know what I'm saying. I'll still
take it. And then I figure out, Damn, I am lonely.
Just sticker on your radios. We got more with Will
Smith's in the neighborhood, our exclusive big Boys neighborhood.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
I ain't leaven this neighborhood.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
Eighties.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
You're pining a big boy from Big Boys Neighborhood on
iHeart Radio.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
We have the most fun on your radio. Hey, susup
polled up in here. Hey, suit's what you got man,
