I don't. I'd rather talk about the things I talk
about in therapy that I'm trying to figure out what's
hurting me? Why am I this way? Like? Why would

I come in and talk about that boy's feet like that?
What did I go through and see when I was
coming up? That was my protection. My mouth was my
protection against the fight, because I was about to fight
every day. And then what happened was I got so
funny that the bullies didn't want to beat me up.
They wanted me to work with them. And join forces

as an evil duel. So then I could talk all
the nonsense I want and the bully got my back.

After I got beat up a couple beat a couple
of times, I got to work on these jokes. Get

But you don't do any politics or anything in your
in your stand up.

Now, I haven't touched politics and since wokesh damn. My
first set was was on purpose. It was it was
it was my first time doing stand up, like my
first special, and I was doing special. I was doing
stand up eight years, and so I put together a
set based on the the structure that I think all

the greats have done that prior Richard Pryor laid out
a structure that everybody's been implementing in their stand up
for years, and then Chappelle kind of shift the paradigm,
and for me, I had to find my own way.
But when you find your voice and your way of
doing things, that's when you find your funny and your voice,
and that's when you really become a comedian. To me

when you break the mole. But I started out it
was politics. It was hip hop politics, race relations, and
then my kids, and then it got personal and that's
why I ended it ended on personal. And after that,
I was like, you know the best part of this
special the last twenty minutes if I watch it, I

(02:34):
go last twenty minutes when I talk about my children,
and I was like when I talk about my life,
when I talked about real stuff, I was like, that's
what I want to do. And so the next one
I did less, no politics, I don't think, and you
know what it is. I did more personal, you know,
stuff like you know, even just funny observational humor, like
you know, growing up in the hood, and you know

the niggas with the Audi belly buttons, and you know
what I mean, like they just got issues. You know,
somebody audi belly button. Those people could fight them and
and no chuck, yeah, chuck chuck. So the work and
Audi belly button niggas are two people you don't fight.

And I remember growing up with somebody that had an AUDI.

narratives you want to and at the end of the day,
everybody being programmed. You know, right now, the man serving time,
you know, he you know, he went for the court.
The court said this and everything is God. But God
said this is what he gotta do. He gotta do
five years and past five years.

You know what about that? I want to bury bury
him further. We had I had a comedy time.

Right now though, because all the all the this is,
if it's bad, I haven't seen it yet, right right,
if he's bad, all right now, everybody's preoccupied in prison,

but they don't know because everybody like this easy stuff.
See the Internet made everything easy. See what it was
a time where before you can be seen, you had
to grow for twenty thirty years. And I'm not gonna
be that old head that's like, man, these kids suck.

They don't suck. I just think that I hope that
that's not where they feel. Is uh their peak. I
think it's short form to be funny for a minute.
Hey easy, but you're not funny to a paid audience
for a minute. Go do that minute in front of
somebody that paid fifty dollars. Let's see how that work.

Go do that minute on TV where people are paying
subscriptions and go do that. No, No, that ain't gonna work.
Now on Instagram and TikTok where it's free and I
get some free content. Oh that's great, right, But even
the stuff what I see on TikTok they doing I
see don't be a menace. I see white chicks. I
see millions of views doing I see my thing in

normit a million views doing the things voiceovers? What is
that thing that you said you was gonna do? The
what you called comic cover comic cover comic Yeah, and
they getting all these views and all these blacks and
all this thing. And I'm like, I wrote that thirty
years ago. I think the original of that, and that
took me a long time to get to that point
where I could write something like that that stays around

for thirty years.

Does that trip you out there? People dress up as
your characters?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
No for Halloween. No, white chicks don't be a.

Not in this generation. It doesn't because they haven't had
a classic in a long time. I didn't we didn't
know what we were doing back in the day because
we were just some hungry brothers just doing it. We
were just grinding and doing it. And then when you
look back and you go, wow, we thought it was funny.
But do you think that somebody's gonna be dressing up

as Lope Dog for Halloween thirty years later? Do you
think they're gonna be and they dress up as white
chicks in different countries and they do the dance. They
sit there and practice and learn to dance like this
is wild. So I do think the world needs a
big ass laugh. And that's why we're doing Scary Movie six.
I just finished film, just wrapped it.

Because my mom when my mom passed right my mom
passed on a Wednesday. I was back at work on
a Friday. And it wasn't because I didn't love my mom.
I just had this place that I knew I could
be happy and I could make others happy, and they
could make me happy, and they could write the Rollercoaster

with me.

I felt bad that my brothers and sisters didn't have this,
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
So do you ever think like, I'm so glad I
have this.

I'm so glad we all have this, and it's a gift.
My father died. I was about to do two shows
at Flappers. Five minutes before I went on stage, they
told my daddy died, and I thought about how much
it was gonna cost to bury this. And I was like,
and I was playing Flappers, so it was a small room,

(11:32):
so maybe and I didn't have the and I was thinking,
now I need to go do this for you know,
to make me make people feel good. No, no, no,
like I need to go do this because I got
to bury him, and maybe maybe I should have added
a shell, and that's why he looked the way he looked.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Right, try to write for.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Third They sold his body punch, but they trafficked this
gut somewhere somebody tig was going, did.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
You think I'm not going to get on stage?

No, that was never thought. My thought was my father
would have been like, go do your show, son.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Right, but you don't do You don't lead with that
on stage.

No, I didn't buy show. And then after the show,
I'll send you footage after the show, I told people
that my.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Father before I walked out here. Do you say, like,
is it literally before I walked out of here? I
just found out? Do you let them in that much?
I let him know after the show was over. I
let him know. You know, I just lost my dad.
And what was crazy was I was doing a special.
I was working on a special about my mother and
I'm still healing from my mother's death. And then my
father passed and when I was working on what was.

There in between years?

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Oh God? And that he was literally waiting for my
mom to die. When my mom died, my dad was
just like, I missed my goal. I missed my gal.
I mean he just sat there and watching the TV.
I can't tell you how long he just sat there
and watched the same news program over and over and
over again. I mean he might have had COVID, but
he was depressed and he wanted to be with my mother.

(13:07):
And I was, you know, he got at the point
and this is the comedian in me. I was just like, man,
mam mama, most had some good skins because this, you
know what with lost his mind by the crawling that coffin.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah, and the other thing too.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
And the other thing was with like with my my,
my my dad, my dad passed. I only had like
for thirty five minutes of stuff about my mom. So
when my dad died, I was like, oh my god,
there goes that hour and seven I need right right right,
And now I got all the material I need to
do this special called Good Grief.

set about my child Kai.

Right right right before I did that and explain, explain.

I okay, Kai is my trans child, and I had
a wonderful, beautiful set about the transition, but not their transition,
my transition, dealing with them going from my baby girl
to my baby boy and what that was like for me.
So it took me about I don't know, eight months
to put together something that I felt was good enough

to present to Kai, and then I could do it
in front of them, but I wouldn't want them to
see it early. But I actually think they came to
the first time I did it and uh oh yeah,
and that's what the relationship went south. I I didn't
think about that, you know, it.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Wasn't worked out on the working out, and.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
Maybe I had said some stuff Kile. I'm sorry, I
think about that.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
But that's when that gives you a different understanding. Though,
when you see certain things on television. Knowing that when
you say your baby girl going to your son? Now,
does that give you Does it give you a different
vision of what's going on in people's lives?

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Absolutely? Absolutely, It humanizes the whole experience. Right for me,
it's like when you're the father of a child that
you know has transitioned. You know it's a different you
see it through a different lens. See people just go, oh,
that's crazy, I can't believe. Then it happens, and then
you're forced to deal with it, and then you have

(15:48):
a whole nother perspective and you can't come from a
perspective of judgment. You come from a perspective of absolute love,
and it unstraps you from anything that you ever thought
in terms of like judging anybody. But you don't start there.
Though I had started. I started with the five stages degree,
started in the dial. Then I went to anger, Then

(16:10):
I went to bargaining, and I got deeply depressed, and
then I found acceptance. It was it was a whole thing.
But here's how great to me my maturity is. I
was going to film a special last month and I
decided not to Why because I felt like I need
to sit down with Kai and make sure that they're

(16:31):
cool with me doing a special, and they probably won't be,
which means I spent all this time working on this thing,
and I'm never gonna show it to the world, which
is okay because for me that was my therapy of
me getting through it. And at the end of the day,
I'm a father, so there am Nanidity and smile and
peace means more to me than a special, even though

(16:55):
I know it's probably my best special. But you know,
some things you go.

So it was probably just even the working out and
putting it all together. At some point it was it's
probably for you.

It's a brilliant set, and I wrote it for them
and I wrote it for their community. It's a beautiful set.

I almost almost fell out, almost cried because for my brothers,
like I always as the baby, I always want to
make them laugh. I always want to you know, you
know how hard it is to know. I don't want
to fill their shoes. I just want them to laugh.
I just want them and enjoy. I just want them
to I'm not trying to compete. I don't want to
be funnier. I just want to fit in with the crowd. Yeah,

I just want to be one of them. Go sit
at the table, and I'm always gonna be the baby brother.
So I'm always gonna try extra hard to make them
laugh because I know if I make them laugh, I'm

had a breathing tube down my throat. When I first
woke up out the comb I didn't know where I
was at, and I yanked pulled the even two about
it caused me it talk in my throat and it

caused me to have staples in my stomach. So when
I was shank and I couldn't get it, I got
it out. It made me gag and I bust all
the staples in my stomach and opened up.
