Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Ellen's podcast. This is Cody Cast Cody
on the fourth, Live from Nashville. I'll be your host
for our fireworks show with Brett Eldridge. You can watch
these Slet's Freedom Sing Special at ten pm nine Central
on Thursday night, July four on CMT. Ding goes here,
Lauren too and July brings up so many thoughts. Fireworks.
(00:22):
You have a favorite firework? By the way, this is
stupid question? Is no? The Big Mother is my favorite fireworks? Really?
The Big Mother? What is that? Are you guys kidding that?
I don't know what the Big Mother is. The Big
Mother is the one that like shines up, It goes
really high and then it like has like a cascade
of like bunches of little fireworks that kind of pop up.
(00:43):
I think I know how you described it, but I
know it was called the big move called the Big
Mother a favorite. I love a good bottle rocket because
that's fun and has less likelihood to shoot your arm
off with um like the Big Mother. That sounds like
that could cause some damage if not handled properly. Kids
kids like the sparklers, They like those. I can might
(01:04):
write the name and do all that stuff. Have you
seen the sparklers? Because I went to the fireworks shopping
the other day. Have you seen these sparklers that are
like eight feet long? It must go for like thirty
minutes going to the I mean, it's crazy. My kids
would have to attention span for that. But like, can
someone else hold this? Now? Written so many things. It
(01:24):
also brings up, of course, vacations this time of year.
Are you going to any vacations anytime soon? I've already
checked that box. Where did you go? By the way,
I went to Florida. I saw your pictures, but I
never knew where you were because it was like, oh,
he's in a sunny, beachy place. I learned from you
what you could kind of give a little tease and
where you are, but don't nasalily say exactly where you are,
Like why why would you? Why would this be good?
(01:47):
Is that accurate? Methical? Cody travels? Check your staff, because
if you ask your staff, that's an accurate depiction of
how you do when you go on vacation. He's out West,
first year a vacation. Next to say, somehow Corey's gonna
get it. He's Ford Festiva and drive up and go hey,
(02:12):
The truth is I probably didn't even know where I
was going at that point. I'm a last minute vacation
planner and that's my defense. It's like, I have a vacation,
we can go next week. I have no idea where
I'm going or what we're doing. I'm going to figure
out the next couple of days. I really don't know.
The truth is I probably didn't know at the time
course in all, and I also was figuring Corey out
(02:33):
at the time, like can I trust this guy? Is
this guy can he be trusted? Because you think maybe Corey, yes,
maybe a shady character, and then you realize over time
like oh this is no, no, no, you really a
really good guy. It's a really good person and that
(02:53):
I can trust him. Um. So that doesn't explain your
situation with your keeping your vaucase secret. It So you
were in Florida, yes, which is a large state near
the Panhandle. Were you near, know, on the Atlantic side, Miami,
Fort Lauderdale, Jackson Kids, the Miami city for your kids,
(03:17):
Fort lauder nice, lovely, We did that last summer. Okay, yeah,
So were you were for the north then? Yes? Uh huh?
Would that be near Daytona? No, No, that's too far north.
Were you in St. Augustine? No, that's for the South.
I'd love to go to. That's on my list. Is great.
That's a great city, it really is. But I prefer
the Panhandle cities if I'm going to. Yeah, Tampa's great.
(03:39):
Were you you were in the Atlantic side the golf
someone between Daytona? M Is it Melbourne? Melbourne? A little
north of Melbourne, Cocoa Beach? Oh yeah, I dream of Jeanie.
You are done, done, done? Kids Back to NASA again.
(03:59):
Kids of the Atlanta A space shuttle again? How many?
And I said the Space center there at least half dozen.
Yet it's so cool if you have never done it.
So you go in. They have the one of the
space shuttles there, Atlantis, right, and you can. I don't
want to reveal it for people who go ahead the
spoiler alert to podcast. So they have this will you
(04:21):
go into this room and they show like how the
space shuttle program came together and then they this big
voice comes on. They kind of show it like taking
off and hooking up at the space station. Then it's
like three million miles and twenty six missions Atlantis, Welcome
home and then the shuttle on the TV screens is
angling like this, and all of a sudden, Lauren, the
(04:44):
shutters come up at the shuttles right there. It's like
a total lump in your throat. I've seen it half
a dozen times. It still makes me like it is
the coolest thing. Reminds me of World Trade Center, the
new what's it called? It called one World Trade Center.
It is so moving when you get to the very
(05:07):
top of it, and they opened the elevator, same situation
where it's like building you up with all this like
history of New York and the skyline, how it's changed,
and all of a sudden they open the elevator. The
curtain opens and you see New York and it's just
jaw dropping. My heart's racing just talking about this stuff. Yeah,
what are you doing for July for vacation? I'm also
(05:28):
doing a last minute getaway talking about Mobile Alabama. My
sister and I are going to drive down there and
jump on a cruise ship and go to Mexico for
a couple of days. What I know, I know it
was the last week. How far is that drive? Is
that like a like six and a half hours And
then on a ship and we're going to jump on
a ship and we leave Monday and then we come
back on Saturday. But here's the this is the kicker.
(05:48):
This is why I love last minute planning. I got
this cruise for two nine dollars a person. I can't
even stay home for two nine dollars. That's great and
include food. Yeah, everything's includ Let's talk about this cruise
ship you must be on here because okay, well that's
the part that I'm a little nex tell us you
do we have a check to make sure that this
is Yeah, it's probably an older ship that they have
(06:11):
on their fleet, and you'll be sleeping on the lido
deck on a pool chair. But yeah, so it's gonna
be great. But you never really know what kind of
like cruise are gonna be on. So I kind of
feel like this is probably gonna be a party cruise.
That's a good deal, though I couldn't beat it. Carnivals
are really fun. There's the fun ships. It's going to
be fun. I'm big to forgive whenever there's something that
(06:33):
happens with a corporation that's trying to get their actor,
like Carnival. We know they had some mishaps, and they're
trying to, you know, trying to make good with the public,
and that's probably why they're offering great fares and trying
to improve their image. I always love that. Even I
even give airlines, which I have a huge problem sometimes
with air travel. I give airlines often the benefit of
the doubt because I think they actually all do try hard.
(06:54):
They're just they still mess up sometimes. Definitely. I feel
like there's some airlines that trying to make it to you,
Like I feel like Southwest. If there's really something goes wrong,
they will always overcompensate with drink coupons or Delta will
send you like, you know, free sky miles if there's
a mishap or missed our delayed plane or whatever. And
(07:15):
don't you feel like way about airlines. I need your
big air traveler too. Yeah, I think, yeah, I think
they they're trying hard. It's especially when you're like a
really big airline like American a Delta, you have so
many flights it's kind of carnival. I actually you have
that many boats, stuff is gonna happen sometimes. What's the
worst flight that you guys have ever been on or
have had an experience where it was a flight mishap. Well,
I mean, I think the ones that happened to me
(07:36):
and most often are like a canceled flight. Therefore you're
booked on one later and you end up thinking you're
gonna be home by noon, and actually you don't get
home until nine pm. And that's always just sucky because
you're stuck at O'Hare for whatever. Recently, one time, one time,
Peter and I are flying out of five Gate Fargo
after we fest and it was like the first flight
(07:57):
in the morning, like six am or whatever. And this
wasn't on the airline, was on the airport. We got
on the plane, we got into the runway and the
captain came on said from the flight deck, apparently the
guy who runs the control tower over slept, but he's
on his way in and as soon as he's in,
we'll go ahead and get Clarence. I'm gonna go ahead
and power down in the engines and uh bust at
(08:18):
the beverage car. Oh my god, I'll tell you what
I'm not into. And this is a new thing that
just happened I think today or yesterday. There is an
airline that is um out of London that they're going
to start weighing their passengers before they get on the flight.
I'm not into it. I've already got anxiety to fly
in general, but I certainly don't want to have to
be weighed before I get on the flight. I was
(08:39):
asked one time to sit on the other side of
the aisle on a smaller plane because they're trying to
get the weight even yes, which I do, even after
would you mind would you find moving across the aisle?
Oh my god? Talking about embarrassing this? Well, I want
to play about one thing. When it comes to airlines,
I feel like they're charging for bags more than ever,
and if you're not flying one of the bigger carriers,
(09:00):
for example, these cheaper airlines will offer a fair that
you think, oh great, well, twenty two bucks both ways
bring both your pockets. But it's twenty two bucks plus
you know, fifty bucks for almost every bag you're playing
in for the carry on, you have to pay for
the extra carryer. So I think it's be careful with
the travels and good luck this July. It'll be awesome.
Speaking of vacations that will not break the bank. If
(09:23):
you're looking to take the family always somewhere this year.
Do you see the top five that you can go
to cheaply? Right? Well, I got to four because I
ran out of time. Okay, we got the top four.
You want to start from the bottom of the top
Number four, Number four, Little Rock, Arkansas. You can if
you're along one of these hiking people, both of you
do like to do the outdoor healthy thing to have
(09:44):
a Pinnacle Mountain State Park there. Or you could even
visit the Presidential Library of former president. Welcome, good to
see you are there are the interns still here? It
comes with a stripper poll. Number three is Lexington, Kentucky.
You can find a hotel there for left for less
than fifty bucks a day. Okay, uh, they got the
(10:07):
Kentucky Horse Park, which will let you see ninety different
breeds of horses. All right, what's number two? Okay? Number
two is Oklahoma City. What you can do for nine
dollars for a week. They have a little meal cost
of eighty dollars per day per person a family of
four I think this is person is that's cheap for
(10:30):
a week for a hotel and males in Oklahoma City?
Come on, Okay, did I oversell that Oklahoma City would
defend their city like we would Nashville. I mean, just
because beautiful city. I don't want to stay in Nashville,
but they feel the sameay about Oklahoma City, and I
(10:50):
want to go somewhere. Hang on, I screwed up. Oklahoma
cities number one. Oh they're the cheapest. Yeah most mobile.
Alabama's number two closely Ocean beautiful Gulf Shore beaches. You
and your mom probably could have found a hotel there.
I agree with the mobile Alabama thing because that's a
beautiful city, and it's right next to the water, like
you said, and you can drive to other places to
(11:11):
like right, you go there most point and you can
go on either side anyway. Fullest Season will put it
on the website CMT Cody dot com. We won't, No,
we will, Okay, we will. If you are looking though,
to do a stay cation, um, Lauren has some tips
(11:32):
on how to stay cation, right, Okay. A lot of
people like to stay home. They like to be able
to be in the comfort at their own home. And
I've got a couple of tips on how to nail
a staycation. So great, Okay. All you have to do
is prepare and plan your week so that you change
your house so that you don't feel like you're still
at your house. So you could go and hire a maid,
or you could have somebody come to your lawn. I
like the mad thing because I feel like when you
(11:53):
are stay cationing, you find things around the house you
want to work on. Yes, like let's clean the baseboards, honey, right,
No one wants to do that, So get made the
common beforehand. Yes, get that done so you don't have
any excuses to work. Absolutely and use this an opportunity
to kind of treat yourself. So like buy some really
nice pastries or some expensive coffees. Signs that you'd be
a bath bomber too. So the next tip is to
(12:16):
go ahead and choose a theme and get everybody on
board with it. I mean, okay, so here are a
couple of like Big Brother right now, because Big Brother
is all about camping. Yet well, that's one of the
themes on the list is really a camping You could
do a camping theme. So you could do a backyard barbecue.
You could camp in your backyard. You can roast marshmallows,
(12:37):
get crazy with it. Um. You could also just tore
your city. A lot of us live in Nashville, and
we haven't explored a lot of the touristy things. I mean,
come on, have you been to the Hermitage? Have you
been to the frist Art Museum? I haven't. Have you
been to the Country Music Hall of Fame? Guys? Have
you been to the River? There's two weeks to do.
So what's the worst vacation you've ever taken? Not a
(12:57):
stay case, but worst vacation. Okay, I've got one worse
vacation that we ever took. My mom did a really
bad job of planning to go to the beach. And
the beach from my parents house was like three and
a half hours, and she was like, come on, guys,
this will be really sponsanate, Like we'll be really sponting.
How do Yeah, we'll be spontaneous. We'll get in the
car and we'll just drive to the beach and we'll
just find a place to stay once we get there.
(13:17):
So we drive, guys. We drove from West Virginia to
Maryland to Dover, Delaware, all the way up to New Jersey.
We were in the car the whole time because everything
was already booked. The beach side motels that we thought
we were gonna be able to stay in never worked out.
We spent twenty three hours in the car and then
(13:37):
just came home. It was literally worse. And she wouldn't
even stopped for like real food because she was having
a stroke. I guess she thought, I'm going to be
the cool mom and we're just gonna wing it right.
And we don't wing it. We don't wing it well
at all. We ate so many Cheetos. I still to
this day cannot eat Cheetos because we were just in
the car eating Cheetos trying to find a motel. I
would say, with all the traveling that I do, it's
nice to be able to be in my own bed
(14:00):
for a week and not and not have to worry
about traveling again. Yes, how many trips have been in
the last four weeks? Forty five? Yeah, we counted. We've
had to figure out space three differences every day. You know,
you travel a lot. If you got to carry the
one when you're up, oh those were the good old days.
(14:20):
Do you have the stage stuff? Okay, and this is
just I hate these, but go ahead, let's just figure
it out. Okay. Cody clearly hates nineties movies because what
we're talking about movies, but the whole concept stupid. Go ahead, well, okay,
the concept is that these nineties movies were tested amongst
people in the United States and they were able to
nail down what states were correlated to rank these certain
movies highest in their state. It's like these nineties movies
(14:44):
most I guess, right, Cody, South Carolina rang in with
Saving Private Ryan is their favorite nineties movie? Do you love?
What does that even mean? Well, you're from South Carolina?
Do you love Saving Private Ryan? What did the see?
Is Titanic? Right? What is that? Titanic has the highest
number across the board for the entire US? I don't
know tex So Texas story to see? Why? Why two
(15:09):
of all of them? Why not on? Here's what's interesting, though,
they're remaking so many of these nineties movies again right now,
so maybe they're just trying to test the field to
see what's going to do well on the box office. Now.
I don't know, Lauren, you're very you're optimistic, positive, nice person,
but this is a dumb thing. I don't like. Whenever
we narrow a states down to whatever they like, one
(15:30):
stage is in a box for whatever their favorite is.
It's just it's not true. It's not It's a little
bit like zodiac signs to me. Let me come on,
just because you're born between certain months does not make
you look at characteristics. It's just I can't. Okay, I'm
not gonna argue. It's like one plus one equals three, Cody,
and they're right. Let us know if you disagree. I'm
happy to hear. Let's we've got a Facebook page for
(15:51):
this stuff. We'd love to continue this. Cody has to
get the seeing save it private. Ryan. Oh, I'm excited
because this you know what's happening. It's if you're stay
cationing like I will be, you'll want some good movies
on Netflix. Netflix released July Releases coming soon. Stranger Things
is back for three It's been two years? Has it
been two years? It has No, it's only been like
(16:13):
a year or so, right, Yeah, anyway, it's back when
we have the date on this, because I need to
know first weekend from the show says July three. Let's
see if he's right. Put on Netflix. It has Change
of Things has not been on Netflix for two years?
Is that true? So the Netflix said, Okay, don't be
(16:35):
so defensive. We're just I'm suggesting it seems like a
little I'm just saying. If Netflix says something, you believe it.
I believe it. It could be true. I may use
my father in law his password and use your name,
but I believe their press releases. It's actually ready right
now July one. That's stupid. Let's go what what are
we doing here? Let's let's go to country music for
(16:56):
the fan of a Right that too, Sorry, we'll get
on with it. Also, a new season of comedians and
Carst Coffee with Jerry seinfelds up. Seventh and final season
of Orange is the New Black, second season of Working
Moms Have It's really good. It's a little dark sometimes,
but pretty funny. Mary Poppins returns the movie I I
(17:17):
know Dingo hated that one. It's going to be out plus.
If you need a nap, go ahead and pop that
on Winds in the East. The kids will like it though,
right No, the kids hated it too. They're like that,
you go, my kids hate going outside. They're like that,
can we go outside and play? The Hangover will be
(17:37):
on on Netflix this mon now. My kids love that.
Paul Blart, Yes, yes, Lauren, he loves Paul Blar. It
doesn't make any sense. It's just I love Kevin James.
Anything slide across the mall because he's heavy. He only
gets halfway and then he has to pretty great, Pretty great. Anyway,
(17:59):
enjoy some Netflix and chill. Let's wrap with the cookie
patter talk here because that will leave everybody feeling good. Uh,
this is a brand new what is a Nestly product?
They're making an edible cookie dough. Now, this is all
new to up till now. You couldn't eat the cookie dough.
Here's the thing I always did. I risking salmonella poisoning
is worth it to me. You do not eat the
(18:22):
cookie batter unless it is the approved Nestle now cookie
Well and it's coming in July to Walmart stores and
the flavors include chocolate chip and peanut butter. Monster. I
wanted to know what the monster was and I had
to look into it. It's just seminems. I don't really
know that that's a monster. Because I still love favorite
cookie batter flavor. I'm going with Believe or not. I'm
(18:43):
gonna go with red velvet with macadam nuts. Oh, I
love macadamia nuts. They're so good. You see my traditionalist. Yeah,
sugar cookie just because I like vanilla. I don't. Okay,
here's what happening right now. He makes fun of me
because if we were on the road and I would
order dessert, could get angry me because I would just
(19:05):
I just want plain scoop of vanilla ice cream. Still boring,
but so many options. Why would you just go with
the vanilla? I mean, I just wanted just a little
other choice. I just wanted a little I didn't want
a whole thing, just a little scoop. There is now
a cookie batter like ice cream shop. I went, how
(19:28):
was it? It's good? So they served it like you
would get scoop ice cream or whatever, but instead of
ice cream, it's cookie batter, and um, it's very rich.
It's very sugary, but I mean obviously delicious. I was
cleaning out my freezer because that's what I do in
the summer now, because I'm married and I got three kids,
and that's all Saturday. Let's go in the freezer and
I found a box of frozen Girl Scout cookies. It
(19:51):
was like Christmas freaking morning at our place. I leveraged
it too. I like kids. You if you want one
of these, you need to have your room cleaned. I
can't even believe you told your family about it. That's
something you hid. You put in the back of the
freezer again. You're like, who's sitting out in my car
in the garage checking the aisle on it? Thin mince
that are thin mince two, which is so good when
(20:12):
they're frozen. That's the only way to eat those, otherwise
they're not as good for five dollars a box. Thanks
