Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Cody Cast. This is Cody Allen's podcast. Hello Gabby,
how are you doing good? Are you? I am doing
well in the midst of all this craziness. Thank you
for calling me. First of all, So you go up
in a house with eight siblings. Would you ever go
back to Pennsylvania for the quarantine, like just to hang

(00:21):
out with the family? No? Absolutely not. Would would you
have survived that? Probably not? Okay. I have four brothers
and four sisters, so it's even numbers on both sides.
So I have a good a good view of boys
and girls. Yeah. Um, have you FaceTime? Um? Sometimes? Yeah,
We mainly do calls a lot um Like I'll call

(00:43):
my mom a lot, my sister and see what they're doing,
what's going on, because I heard Pennsylvania's getting hit pretty
bad with the virus. I know everywhere's getting hit, but
Pennsylvania was one of those highlight places. So just making
sure they're all good, And they are good right now.
So that's good to hear. So what fun ways have
you been sort of passing the time right now with
your own quarantine going on? Unways, Well, my husband and

(01:04):
I are in Texas. His family's in Texas and they
have a bunch of land, so we're just far away
from the virus in the woods. So he's riding a
horse right now. And uh, I have been baking and
cooking and trying to figure out new things to do
in the kitchen. So that's been fine. Are you much
of a cookie or is this something new to you?
I like it. I like, you know, baking and cooking.

(01:26):
I really started to get into it a little before
I got married. But um, I really like to do it.
I love being in the kitchen and being home and
doing stuff. So what have you cooked? You said baking?
So like cakes or cookies or what. I love it all.
I need to get a little more expertise, like I
have to follow everything role by role because I'm not
that good at it to where I'm doing taste testing.

(01:48):
But yes, I love to do like, um, brownies and
cakes and stuff like that. Like I just made some
German chocolate cook cakes the other day and they were
really really good. So yeah, yeah, German chocolate. Any I
love German like coconuts. I love all that stuff. And
though ye, yes, all bad for you. Um, so that
I've been trying to like not gain like what they're

(02:10):
calling the quarantine fifteen. But being on the farm, I
guess you probably have lots of things around there. You
guys can stay busy doing absolutely. That's why we're staying
out here so long, because we live in a you know,
more of a neighborhood area in the outskirts of Nashville. Um,
And so you know, you can come out here and
ride the four wheeler and my nephews up here, and

(02:31):
there's a horse and there's just space to get out
and do stuff, and you need to get sun. You
can't stay in your house, right. Um. You are closing
in on a number one with I Hope congratulations. I
love this song. From the first time I heard I thought, man,
now those are some lyrics. Thank you. I appreciate that
so good. So I'm so happy it has climbed the
charts and it's getting so close to the top. And

(02:53):
it's such a clever swerve. I love when you think
it's going one way, and then you take the wheel
of that car, Gabby, and you just go the opposite
direction of where I thought it was gonna go, which
I love a good twist like that. Why was it
the right song for the first release. I don't know, Well,
we wrote that song. I had just kind of started
coming down to Nashville and figuring out the writing process

(03:16):
and knowing writers in Nashville, And that was probably my
fourth song that I had written in Nashville, and we
were trying to figure out which one we're going to release,
you know, independently, because I didn't have a label or anything.
After I came off light it for a while and
so I hope just kind of stuck out like sort
down to everybody and was just like, yeah, this is
this is the one. Everybody just felt something special with it,

(03:37):
and it turned out that way. Is it indicative of
other stuff you have coming or what's the rest of
your project? How's it coming together? Yeah? Well, um, there's
a lot of stuff happening. We're finishing up on an
album that you can expect around mid year. Um, And
so I've just been really excited about this, you know. Uh.
I've heard a lot of you know, artists going there

(03:59):
fir and fourth album in and they're like, well, this
one's finally me. And so with this first one, I
wanted to make sure that it was very me and
very very cool all around of stuff that I like
to sing and my type of sounds and stuff. So
this is gonna be a really really cool album for
everybody here. Can't wait. Um, I know Carrie Underwood is
a huge influence obviously both of you. Coming from American Idol,

(04:20):
you're compared to her a lot, which is a pretty
good comparison, I would say, absolutely so as Carrie given
you some advice. Yeah, when I was on Idol and
met her, um, she was so unbelievably nice and I
will just give her credit to the day I die.
She's somebody that's very nice on and off of the
camera and is the same um, which is the nicest

(04:41):
thing to run into. And so she ended up actually
giving me her phone number after the show ended, and
now I can call her friend and she's just super nice.
And I remember pulling over one day inside the road
after Idol had ended and just talked to her about like,
how did you keep momentum going and and you know,
strike while the iron was still hot after you know,
a television show, And yeah, she would just give me advice.

(05:03):
Should just be like I would take you know, early
mornings and just write and record constantly, even on the
tire days and she's a very hard worker, and so
I took that advice and did this time. Do you
have a favorite Carry Underwood song, favorite Harry song? Oh
my gosh, um, American Girl, I love that. I love
that song too. Um. Let's see here, let's talk idle

(05:24):
for one second and then we can move on. But
when you think back on that experience, what was like
the best best moments? That's hard. Oh my gosh, there
are so many wonderful moments on American I get to
sing with Luke Brian, that's saying with Cary Underwood can
sing with sugar Land. Oh my gosh, Um, I don't know.
I can't give you a definite answer, but absolutely Carry
and singing with Luke and getting to talk to him

(05:46):
for like an hour was insane. I thought, you might say,
meeting your husband, oh that too, Yes, I thought you
have music both. That was definitely the best thing out
of that personally. Yes, my sweet husband. Did you at
any point in that whole romance have any trepidation about like,

(06:07):
oh my gosh, I'm finding love on a reality show.
Maybe this is like too weird, or or was it
just right from the beginning, like, Okay, this is meant
to be. It wasn't super right from the beginning, but
it sort of was you know when you like you
don't know, but then you're like, oh, I think this
personal lines me and then you're like, oh, well I
kind of like them, and then it just starts to click.
That's how it was. And we were keeping it very

(06:28):
on the down low, like we weren't going to tell
anybody until after Idol had ended, but the producers ended
up telling Ryan ccrest and he's the one who outed
us in front of everybody, so that was great. That
was great. You cannot trust that guy. He's like, yeah, everything,
that's everything and everybody, Uh congratulate a c M nomination

(06:49):
for New Female of the Unit Artist of the Year. So, um,
first phone call you made after getting that news? Who'd
you call? First phone call? Actually, I made a video
to put on sweet I've put a video up on
Instagram and everything, my management and my label. I had
gotten multiple texts. I was in New York getting ready
to do some some press stuff. Um, and I called

(07:13):
my family obviously, and my husband was actually there with me,
so it was nice to kind of celebrate that with him.
We'll have like three awards. Shows in a row will
have the h C M AS and A c M
S of course, and the CMT Music Awards as well.
So what do you look forward to most when it
comes to attending one of the big shows. Um, fingers crossed,
hopefully winning an award with the A C M S
UM and then I don't know, I'd like to see

(07:34):
the performances, and like I liked how everything's you know,
crossing genres now, like genres are bleding in the different genres.
So it was cool to like see you know, last
year was like Pink and Chris Stapleton do stuff together,
and it's just I like the performances, the performances that
aren't kind of expected and something cool happened. So well,
I love that you called the show. Really appreciate it.
We'll put you on the radio and then I'd love

(07:54):
to have you on the CMTTV show I do as well,

make that happened at some point because I'd love to
have you on. You're such a fun person. So oh,
