Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Ellen's podcast. This is Cody castcious l. No,
how you doing? Hi? How are you? I'm doing good?
Thank you for calling me. I am stuck at home.
I mean, uh, doing my little show here from the

(00:22):
guest room. Oh boy, yeah yeah, I mean we're four
months and now I think of the crazy. I'm going
a little crazy, sweetheart, I am going nuts. It's me
and the dog all day from basically sun up till
Trey gets home and then he, you know, takes management
of the dog. But yeah, we have we've bonded in

(00:44):
like new ways, me and this dog. We got it
as like a puppy in whatever February, and we had
no idea any of this. Of course what's gonna happen?
So he thinks that I am like to stay at home. Mom, Oh,
what are you gonna do when you get back to
work the dogs and be like, what's happening? I don't know,
that's what I'm Maybe you can get one of those

(01:04):
like you're gonna be so dependent on your dog you're
gonna maybe have to take him with you to work.
I mean he may become like one of those like
real service dogs. I may actually need the the mental.
I think I might need a service dog. Honestly, I've
been talking to my therapist about whether or not I
should get a dog because I live by myself, and
I'm like, maybe I need to do but I'm worried

(01:25):
about getting a dog and then getting back to work
and the same thing, like, well, I guess maybe you
could still take the dog. I see a lot of
artists take the dogs on the bus, and the dogs
seem to love that life. Um, but I mean, I
don't know how much trouble that really is. I can
do it, yeah, still the weekends or whatever, like Thursday
to Sunday, whatever your runs are, And um, I don't know.
I think it's been really good for me. Um, honestly,

(01:46):
just having his companionship, and he will He's a Golden Retriever,
so he's super super sweet, very he's is obedient and
just a sweetheart. So he will stay like underneath my
swivel chair here in my studio, um, all day with
that's so sweet, I know. And if I go anywhere
in the house, if I go and close a door
like in the bedroom or whatever and brush my teeth

(02:08):
or in the bathroom, he will wait by the door.
Until I'm done. It's the sweetest, most wonderful thing. So
that's really nice. So you say you've been going a
little stir crazy. Have you gotten out at all? I
mean a few pictures of you, like in your your
swimsuit looking gorgeous on a lake somewhere. Um. But did

(02:28):
get to go to my mom has a lighthouse, um,
and so I went there. I did go to the lighthouse.
And my dad lives in Alabama close to the beach,
um which all of the beaches have been shut down,
but I did go. I think they're open up now, actually,
But I went and stayed with my dad for a
few days. So other than going to like my family's houses,

(02:51):
I haven't been anywhere anywhere. And I am the busiest
person I know. Like I love to be out and
around people throwing guys, well, somebody please FaceTime me. Well
I've seen that a lot where Like it's just nice
to catch up with people and say, like, how you doing,
what's going on, even if it's even by FaceTime or
text or whatever. A lot of people are doing that.

(03:13):
I think it's actually kind of brought us maybe closer together.
I think, yeah, if I'm looking at the silver lining.
You know, I definitely think I'm connecting with people more
because I realized I'm not as busy, you know, and
I realized it's kind of sad but also my blessing,
Like I wish I'd realized that before. But I am

(03:33):
connecting with people more. I would say, I'm just yeah,
I'm ready for this to be over, but I think
we have to take whatever precautions we have to take
so that we can all get past it. But it is. Yeah,
I'm definitely doing the mask thing. A lot of people. Oh,
I don't go anywhere without my mask. My mask is
now my wallet. I have my wallet in my mask

(03:53):
at all times. What does your mask look like? I'm
just trying to imagine, because I bet it's just super awesome.
I have a dinner mask and it has like a
red heart on it and like little Ryan stones around
the heart. But I also have Lauren Alena Mass. We
made Lauren a Lena Mass, so I occasionally break that
one out. But I feel sometimes I'm like, should I
or should I not wear my own mask. I feel

(04:15):
the same way like they do these logos with the
show or whatever on it in my name, and I
feel so stupid wearing those because I just it's I
don't know, like Garth. I'll see where his like G
logo hats, and I'm fine for Garth because he's Garth.
He can do whatever he wants. But it just feels
weird to me. I know, when when can we get
on the Garth status where we can wear our march

(04:38):
It's well, you're a lot closer than I am, so
keep it up and send me. No one is on
Garth status though. Let's be honest, It's like there's no
one on that status in the world except maybe. Yeah.
It's true that we the first name status where you
just say their first name and you know exactly who
it is. I don't think people are walking around being

(04:59):
like did you hear what happened to Lauren? People will
be like, which, Laurence, Well, you are having massive success
right now, and I want to get to that. Um
I love getting good and one beer is on the
radio with Hardy right now. And by the way, your
voice just sores in that one. In case people haven't

(05:20):
figured it out yet, like you really have, I would
say top five voices in country music. I mean, you
really are. You're that good as a vocalist. I think, um,
thank you Cody. Everything you freaking do sounds so good.
Even I heard you on the Dustin Lynch song too.
Every time that one comes on, like God, you just

(05:40):
take it away like you steal the show. And I
love that love that so. Um, well it is. It
has always been my thing. I appreciate that I've worked
really hard at it. It It would be really sad if
I I've dedicated my whole life to it. And I was, Um,
you really have like a god given gift, though, Like
when did you know that you have like this gift

(06:01):
given to you. I think other people realized it before
I did. Um, I just always love to do it.
But I think around like nine, I realized that in
choir at church and stuff, I was always getting the solos.
And then I started doing competitions like in my small town,
you're just like at fairs and stuff. But then I

(06:23):
was like, wait, maybe I can actually do this for
a living. Like it went. It went from something that
I love to do just something that I could do.
You know, one beer, let's talk about that for one second.
I want to hit the songs here. Um, what appealed
to you about doing that song? Because again, it struck
me as a really great hooky song, and maybe hard

(06:44):
He could have sang it on his own, but I
love that he incorporated your voice in there. And so
why was that sort of uh interesting to you? It
was really crazy how the whole thing came together. Hardy
and I are but it's like, I love him and
he just randomly hit me up one day and he
was doing collaborations for his whole project and he said

(07:05):
he wanted a girl on the song, and he thought
of me and with our friendship and whatever, and I
listened to the song and I was like, we have
to do the song. It just feels like and you know,
just a good I love country music because it tells
a story, and I feel like that song tells a
story so well and takes a situation that was unexpected

(07:25):
and how life can just change in a blink, but
it can change your life for the better, you know,
And we're all just trying to be better at all times,
and things happened to us that we don't necessarily think
will make us better and than they do. And I
just loved the song and it sounded like a hit
the first time I heard it, you know, yeah, same here,
and the whole thing started with some alcohol. I mean

(07:47):
it was so wa to magaw. And the flip side
of that is getting good, which is really about sort
of um realizing that you can be satisfied where you
are with what you have and you don't always have
to be thinking about other you know, material possessions or
stages in life. Was that the kind of message you
wanted to sing about? Yeah, I mean my brand as

(08:09):
an artist, I've always tried to be empowering and uplifting
and I've had a lot of struggles in my life
of you know, not feeling good enough, for not feeling
like what I have to offer is enough and if
I can just have this, I would be happy if
I got to that happy to be happy, And the
song basically says, hey, take a second to count your
blessings and think about all of the wonderful things in

(08:31):
your life, and you realize, actually, your life is good
right now, and we can all e alve, we can
all like have goals, but we forget. I I can't
say what I can't speak for everyone, but I sometimes
forget when I achieve a goal that I had to
be grateful for achieving that because I'm so busy trying
to achieve the next goal. And this song is just

(08:52):
about like where you are right now. Where you are
right now is a beautiful place and to be grateful
for it. A Tricia, what joins you for this? In
new duet version you just released? It's so good, so
thank you? Why why was she the right fifth to
sing that one? And do the redo with you? And
then what's your favorite Tricia here? With song? In general?
Every song she's ever done, I loved. I mean, she

(09:13):
is my childhood, you know, growing up in the nineties,
it was it was Tricia your I mean, there was
multiple women, but she was such a prominent voice on
the radio, and I just remember singing her songs and
singing competitions and just loving her. And it's always scary
to meet one of your heroes because you have like

(09:36):
an idea of who they are in your head, and
you never know not that someone may not be a
good person because we've worked out what we think they'd
be like, you know what I mean, So it can
be scary to meet him. But when I met her,
I met her it an award show, but I can't
remember which one. It might have been, I don't know.

(09:57):
I met her an award show and i'd sang with
her and we all shared addressing room was like a
female performance and it was really empowering and amazing, and
we started talking about food and our love for food.
You know, she has a cooking show, and I just
remember really thinking she was everything I could ever want

(10:17):
her to be. And while we were there, she asked
me to come on her cooking show. And we had
been trying to get it together for so long and
getting our schedules worked out, and then it finally worked
out and we did this cooking show and while we
were there cooking, she sang a part of Getting Good
to me and surprised me while we were in the

(10:38):
kitchen and she said she loved the song and we
just really hit it off, and she calls me Junior
now she says, I'm like Tricia Jr. And so I
randomly called her after that and I said, that moment
in the kitchen meant so much to me. Do you
think we could do a version of Getting Good? And
she said yes, it was that natural, like just kind

(10:59):
of fell out of the guy and her voice. Hearing
her sing my song, I cry every time I hear
it because that voice cheped up my voice so much.
You know, now I get the cultures. So you're with
my friend? How did that happen? Did she share any recipes?
Are you pretty good in the kitchen by the way,

(11:19):
or I love to k I'm not as good as her,
she's a prep. Um. We made fast food, like we
remade the beef and cheddar, and it was really fun
because we were just talking about how after our words
shows we always go eat fast food because there's so
much stress, like wearing the dress, and that is like
something dude just said, I do that every time. And

(11:42):
so the whole episode we did, we worked to drive
through and everything. It was really fun to go back
and watch that. All right, you need to check that
one out. Um, as we wrap here, thank you for
doing the Tuesday show, the Concert for Love and Acceptance. UM,
it's gonna be awesome, crazy, fun night with a bunch
of stars and we're so happy that you are going
to be part of that. So what are you performing?

(12:03):
By the way, I am doing getting good, Getting good,
And I did a little. I don't know how, Um
they're editing the show, but I did a little. I
did a little speech before I did it, and I
performed to Getting Good and I'm really proud to be
a part of it because I think the most important
thing that we can all remember right now with especially
with where the world is his love and acceptance and equality.

(12:27):
That is what we are all striving for. Everyone wants
to be loved, Everyone wants to be appreciated and accepted
for who they are. And yeah, I just I love
any time I can use my platform, just sing my
songs and raise awareness for people who need it. I
say it all the time. I feel like we all
look at our differences more than what we have in common,
and if we were to focus on what we have

(12:49):
in common, it's far outweighs any differences we have. Once
you realize what we have in common, you realize how
minor and silly our differences really are. And so um
that love is really appreciated. That and you've listen. I
love you, Thank you for friendship over the years, and
maybe you can still we can still connect through Tricia
to Garth. Somehow we'll wake up. Yeah, let's see, well

(13:11):
we like you know what I thought of? Oh my gosh,
have Tricia your wood and Garth Brooks listen to my
song in their living room. I bet they have. That
gives me a heart attack. I thought about that because
she's singing on it, so you know she played it
for him. Garth Brooks says, listen to me in his house.
We're well on our way to having logos on our

(13:31):
hats and our maths soon, so one step away. Cody, Hey, Laurena,
love it d take care. We'll see you Tuesday. Have
a good rest of the day. Okay, call me if
