Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is podcasts. So usually in a regular year I
get to see Luke Brian quite a bit um at festivals,
concert stops, crashed by ply in Mexico every year, the
farm tour, so lots of Luke throughout my year. But
I have not seen him since January. On the line
(00:24):
right now, Luke Brian, Hi, what's up? How you doing?
A long way from when I saw you crash my
ply a bud, A lot of a lot of interesting development.
You know. I think about that too, because I feel
like January when we were there, is like ten years ago. Now.
It feels so long ago. You know what I think?
You know, we were just we didn't even know how
how scold we were at the time. Yeah, I know.
(00:47):
So how you holding up? I'm struggling. I see you're
having a lot of fun. Yeah, I'm having you know, man,
I listen. Um, you know, when life gives you lemons,
you know what I do. I'll go fishing. Now we
went you know, we've been having fun. We've been having
(01:08):
a lot of fun. Then the boy has been blazing
the trail and and going. We went out west and
did a lot of fishing, and um, I mean, you know,
we're just trying to trying to make the most of it.
I mean, just keeping it real, playing you know, playing
a little golf here and there, and um, you know,
(01:28):
just we're not touching the flax stick, so we play
golf and you know, but but yeah, man, we've it's
been been an interesting summer, but certainly mistouring and ready
to get back out on the road. About point in
my life, you'll never get this much time with the
family ever again. Um, which I can see. That's good
to like relist that a little bit. And by the way,
(01:50):
who's the best fisherman? I feel like till is pretty good.
I've seen a couple of his catches. Well, Cody, you know,
don't get ahead of yourself. Just remember who the you know,
I'm the god. They're a fishing around my home. All
fishing knowledge begins and ends with me. And uh, I
mean I know all the knots, I know all fit
(02:10):
I know the barametric pressure, and I'm the one that
finances all of the fishing trip. So if anybody tells
you otherwise that they're better than me, and they're out
of the they're out of the club. Well thank you
for setting the record straight. Um, I love the new project.
I gotta tell you, it is so comforting to hear
(02:31):
your voice over the speakers right now. I don't know why.
I don't know what I found you comforting before, but
now it's like, okay, familiar voice. Am I like a
baby blanket you are, or like a comfort food, like
a big bowl of macaroni and cheese. It just it
feels good. It's like macaroni and cheese for your ears.
But I was hoping you would say movie popcorn. But okay, uh, seriously,
(02:53):
these are some great songs. I love the ones that
I'm already familiar with it everybody knows already, like one
Margarita and Knocking Boots. But towards the end of the
album is where the good stuff comes, like a little
less broken this time, build me a daddy, where we're going.
I mean these are for boat, like I said as
I originally I have um you know the song. The
(03:16):
album was supposed to come out in April, so I
had to have the whole thing done by February. So
I've been living with these dead gum songs since February.
It's about time the fans get them, because you know,
I've I've I've I've warned myself out of myself enough.
It's time for the fans to do that. You do
strike a lot of emotions here, and was that sort
(03:38):
of the goal with this to give people with born here,
live here, die here, like all the sort of Luke
Bryan emotions you brought us over the years. You've got
some up tempo stuff, but then some real like I said,
message songs. Yeah. I mean when what's funny about my
project is when you look at Knocking Boots and what
she Wants Tonight and certainly one more Root. I mean
those are kind of up tempo, more up to up
(04:00):
those songs. And then but the album gets into uh,
some classic sounds, some some a little bit of throwback
stuff that I've done you know a few years ago
that I did years back. So um, and you know,
got some new writing, some new some new writing partners
on there. So some. My main thing is just um,
(04:20):
with every with every album process, just try to put
put some new stuff on there and and enjoy um,
enjoy writing with some new people, and try not to
be too you know, there is always some redundancy in
your artistry. I mean it's like, um, you know, I can't.
(04:40):
I can't just immediately start writing songs about like astrology
and stuff like that, because I don't, you know, I
truly know. I know, parties outdoors, I know, um yeah,
fishing and hunting and so that's you know, it's just
trying to take a well and you know, tapping my
(05:00):
well even more and get creative. So um, but I
like to stay in my lane. And what's funny is,
you know, you try to get cute and then I
put out one margarita, just a big old fun drinking
is wrong and it kind of blows up for me
in one of my bigger hits in years. So so
I'm kind of learning. I'm learning one of my bread
is buttered when it comes to born here, live here,
(05:22):
die here. What is the here you're talking about? Well,
obviously I'm talking about Lesburg, Georgia. But obviously I'm a
hypocrite because I left there and um actually did not
stay there. But you know, it's fun to sing about it.
It's fun to sing about those buddies that are still
there and you know they're there, you know, their way
(05:45):
of life is so fun for me. I mean, I
call home and and you know, I call my dad.
And my dad is totally born here, live here, die here,
you know, Liz. You know, he just he ain't leaving
his house, you know, or his homes. He gets up
and and drinks his coffee and drives to work and
(06:06):
does his same thing and loves every second of it.
And so many of my friends grew up that way,
and I grew up that way, and so I like
to kind of tip my hat to them with this song.
Do you ever think you'll go back? Or is Nashville forever?
You know, I would assume the Tennessee Nashville area is forever.
But you know, I've got a farm down there, and um,
(06:29):
I've got my nieces they're still down there, and obviously
my dad and his wife are down there, and I've
got I've got a um small business that me and
one of my best friends operate down there. So so
I'm getting down there quite a bit. And and you know,
I actually, you know, I have a home down there,
but only get down there, you know, probably seven eight
days a year. But um, but when I'm there, it's
(06:52):
it's really special and feels good and and um and
you know, as as as my boy, you know, with
your children kind of keep you at your home too.
As they grow older and they go off to college,
then you know they may we may meet at our
at our place down there to hunt, and so they
(07:14):
start getting down there a little more than normal. But um,
but love every chance I get to go to Levesburg. Seriously,
when it comes to this sort of stay at home time, Um,
who is most ready to go back on the road?
Is that you are? Carolina? Is she most ready for
you to get back and out of the house. Uh?
You know what I would say, that's a tough question
(07:34):
because either way, no matter no matter how you answer it,
somebody sounds like an asshole Cody. So you know, I'll
take the fall and say I'm ready to get back
on on the road. But um, you know, if you
ask her, she's probably be like, please get this this
bourbon flatulent making you know, snoring, Um, greasy human you know,
(07:59):
like I think she likes me about three days a
week in the bed not not. Um. It has been
nice since we were talking about to spend time with
the family and do some fun things. Have there been
some moments where you're just grateful you witnessed being a
part of this moment and it would have happened otherwise
you would have been on the road somewhere somewhere across America,
planet concert or whatever. But has there been sometimes like that.
(08:20):
We're like, okay, I wouldn't have experienced this unless you know,
all this craziness had happened, you know, on the golf course.
Bow my my um twelve year old hit a holding
one this summer and I didn't see it, but I
was at the course and it was fun. Let me see,
what's some of takes crazy accolade um tate, Uh, God,
(08:41):
what's what's some fun stuff takes done? I mean take
you know, take's grown his hair out since the uh
since the so I've got to watch his hair. He
literally looks like a troll doll right now. And my
son also, um, he dyed his hair blonde, uh during
the quarantine and he hates it now. But in the beginning,
(09:02):
of course, it sounded like a great idea. And sometimes
I just decided, as a dad, you cannot decide for them,
would They will make their own decisions, good or bad,
and then let them sort of deal with the consequences.
So what else with your boys? You know, our boys
did to start back playing in a in a baseball league.
(09:24):
Both hit a home run a couple of days ago,
which freaked me out. I was running around like over
the fence that kind of that was wild. And you know,
I took him on that fishing trip and watching them
tough out all that, and got to tell my nephew,
um he he and I fished one day and I
fell out of the drift boat. I literally fell in
(09:44):
in the water and watching him laugh at me. He
literally laughed for four or five minutes straight. So, you know,
a lot of fun memories and and um, you know,
and and a lot of memories have been lost in
red wine and beer too. Are you ready to be
a teacher again in a few weeks, because back to
(10:05):
homeschooling it looks like, right, buddy, I am, um, yeah, no, man.
Either way, we're gonna go on. I'm gonna go on
and find a teacher dot com to homeschool and and
just mainly for my wife's senity, what subject are you
most helpful with? And which are you least helpful with?
(10:26):
I guess I do okay in math. But the problem
with math is they they don't add math like you
and I. They like look at it and add it
or something. So I don't know what kind of alien
cryptic math they're doing. But but I'm lost in al drumped,
you know, I just we're just I mean, maybe I
can just help him in art and tea a little bit.
(10:46):
You just do some spots and push ups. So who's
been your who's been reaching out the most of all
your friends, your celebrity friends. And you've got a cell
phone full of celebrity friends. Jason Alden, I mean, Blake,
Shelton Thomas right out here, bark your boat at some point, Um,
who's been He actually stole my butt. Who's been your
(11:08):
who's been reaching out and making sure everything's okay with
the fam? And uh and Sandhi regularly, you know it.
It's just it's dispersed pretty evenly. I mean, me and
Cole Swindery, I'll talk a lot, John Langston, and then
Blake and I have shadowed a lot this summer, and
and me and Jason Aldean too, and and got to
see Jason down to the beach a few days and Jansen,
(11:31):
you know, Chris Jensen and I talked quite a bit,
and um So and me and you know, Darius um
Darius has been has spent the summer at my golf course.
So really I've got to see Darius quite a bit
this summer, which has been fun. Always cherish every moment
around him. But but you know, we you know, we um,
(11:52):
we kind of get together and just shake our heads
that we can't. You know. The main thing is we
just we want to be out on the road, you know,
we want to be out there touring and and and
playing our songs and and us. So we just kind
of look at each other, shake her head and go,
all right, well get here you can do You wish
I would reach out more often. You know, I think
(12:14):
I think we're I think we're good about about you know,
once a year. Um, as we wrap here. UM, you're
a guy who's experienced uh some loss from time to
time in your life, and UM, I think you're an
inspirational guy because you get back up every time and
seem to take off again. A lot of people struggling
(12:35):
right now, you know, unemployed or dealing with sickness or whatever.
What would you say to anybody who's struggling about, you know,
not knowing what the future holds, but hanging in there.
How would you inspire them. You know, I think in
times like this and gosh, um, when you think about
I mean, a hundred and fifty thousand people have passed
away from this and there, you know, that leaves a
(12:58):
residual of hurting family men. I think you gotta. I mean,
my way I've dealt with it, first and foremost is
just faith in God's plan. You you, I believe. Now
a lot of people may not, but I believe you
have to start with understanding that whatever you're dealing with
was just trusting the trusting God's plans, and from there
(13:22):
work backwards. And then just try to pull positives out
of your life. And remember, you know, even you know,
even though there are challenging things circling, just try to
see some positives and pull and focus on that. And
you know, I think I think we get you know,
you know, we get a little lost in our path
(13:43):
where you know, and listen, I have down days too.
I'm not sitting here saying that I'm some motivational speaker
that rolls in like he's all amped up on caffeine
every day or ready to change the world. But you know, man, yeah,
you gotta force yourself out of a routine of getting down,
you know, and and and and really dive in into
(14:05):
you know, me and my wife we even talked about
it last week. You know. You you create these things
that bring you down and stress you out, and you
really have to start looking at those things that add
stress and bring you down and do your best to
eliminate them. Whether it's and it can be a lot
of things. I mean it can be. He could be
other people that are just downers that you're like, Okay,
(14:26):
I'm tired of being around that downer. Good advice, Luke.
Love you to Dath, Thank you for the time. Thank you, Cody.
Good good to talk to you, buddy. If you behave,
I'll grant you three phone calls a year. Well please
answer when I call next time. I'll do like a
Smoothie King punch card for you. How about that perfect?
(14:47):
Thanks for listening to Cody Allen's podcast, This is Cody Cast.
