Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Ellen's podcast. This is Cody Cast podcast
with Australian duo See Fourth with a Britney song out
called Breakups and a video just premiering as well. Mitch
and Tom on my zoom Are you guys there? What's
going on? Are you guys good? How are you good?
You like my ring light reflecting my glasses at nice?
(00:21):
I deal with that every single time I try to
do that. I've now got the ring light pointing up
at the ceiling, so it gets a lot of reflection
on us. By the way, I have trouble remembering who
is who? So real fast Tom and Mitch? Who which?
Who is who? Tom match Mitch? See. I feel like
your names should be opposite of that. I feel like, um,
(00:42):
you should be Tom, Mitch, you should be Tom Mitch,
and I should be Mitch Tom. No, yeah, exactly Like
I have the same problem with the High Valley guys.
I feel like their names don't match. You can just
call us Todd in Mike instead. Yeah, if you just
call us something completely different every time we have a conversation,
that that'll work. To Troy and Matt from Sea, Um, yeah,
(01:03):
so you are actually technically not brothers, though, But you've
known each other for a very long time, So tell
us the story behind your childhood growing up in love
and music. Yeah. Yeah, we we've known each other three
years old. We went to a preschool together in a
town in Sydney called four Um, which is where we
got our name from. It would be like being from
(01:24):
Nashville and calling yourself Green Hills, I guess, which is
in hindsight, pretty silly for people back home. But um,
in moving to the US, we wanted to keep a
piece of Alec home with us. We decided to call
ourselves after the place where we met and grew up.
But yeah, we were friends all through high school everything,
and then started making music together around twenty years old,
twenty one, and then it was just kind of a
(01:45):
light bulb moment for both of us. Man, I haven't
known each other our whole lives. And then once we
started writing, we like this feels right, you know, writing
and right right right right right? So what AIGs you
discover like music that you had that income? Yeah, I
mean we both played from like a really young age,
Like I was singing since I was since I can remember.
(02:07):
I started playing guitar when I was about twelve. I
know Tom was like childhood prodigy, like started really young,
had his first record deal at like twelve, I believe,
and obviously that took up. He's actually just but I
don't know if you guys know, um, he's just in
disguise right now. But no, We've always loved music. I've
always played. I think we first like started collaborating with
(02:28):
each other. I put these up we uh parent teacher
that like cocktail events at our school. Like we were
like kind of like the two singers of the school
for a while. Tom was first, and I kind of
followed in his footsteps. I was like a little bit
jealous of him. I was like I want to do
that too, and I was like he was great, So
he kind of inspired me too. That's the only compliment
(02:48):
you'll ever get. Um. But it wasn't until like after
high school, like Tom said, because we're both doing our
own separate things and we're kind of like just figuring
out where we wanted to be and how we wanted
to do music. And I was until we wrote our
first song together when we're about twenty nineteen that everything
kind of clicked and we're like this is there's something
special here and we both each other so well and
(03:08):
we want the same we want the same thing out
of music. And it was like immediately said outsides on
Nashville and coming out here, and that's what we did.
It's obviously working. You guys, are you click well together?
The videos you put up on social media are so
I mean, so creative and so fun and I never
quite know where you're going with any of it, but
it's always fun to watch that. Like there's a camaraderie
(03:31):
that's obvious between you two. But do you ever do
you ever fight? Do you ever creatively have differences anything
like that? It's funny, but I feel like we haven't
been asked about this ever really until like recently, and
I feel like most people are asking us these days.
I don't know that we just give off that energy
that we give um. No, man, It's it's funny, Like
we've known each other for so long, and you'd think
(03:51):
by now, having spent so much time together, we would
have had some kind of fallout or argument or something
about Like, honestly, we don't argue, we don't really fight.
I feel like we know each other well enough at
this point that if one of us is having an
off day or something, and we know to you know,
give the space that's needed. But do we really don't
argue about anything. I think we definitely like treat each
(04:11):
other how you would like with your sibling. At this
point where it's like the like the friendship friendship like
ah has worn off and it's just like we're bros down.
It's just like we know it. Like we could say
anything that might offend other people if you were speaking
to someone that you weren't super close with, but we
we just close that. It's just past that. So were
we both want the same thing, Like we're doing the
(04:31):
same thing together with the same purpose and goals. So
everything we want is only in I mentioned your name's
Jordan and Thomas. So do you have nicknames for each other?
I don't know if we can say it um on
any form of recording. Uh, that one's fine, yeah, but
(04:53):
other ones probably yeah, maybe not camera friendly, it's probably
it's usually just mate right or maybe some exploitatives here
and there. Have you felt that Nashville feels like home
at this point? It definitely feels like home. We were
doing like multiple trips out here before we actually moved in.
Two thousand seventeen. So I think in those trips we
kind of started becoming accustomed to the ways here. We
(05:15):
were meeting meeting lots of people every time we'd come out.
We were like learning about the different areas of Nashville.
And by the time we actually moved, I feel like
we already had a great friend circle and people in history,
and we like knew our way around Nashville enough that
it was kind of like an easy slot in. And
then when we started leaving Nashville and going back to
Australia to visit, it was kind of like, all right,
(05:35):
we're ready to get back home, you know what I mean,
Like it felt like Nashville. Yeah, which is great to
have two homes across the the other side of the world.
I've told you about my love of Quocus. We've talked
about this in case people don't know, there's these adorable
creatures only found in Australia. They look like they are
(05:57):
from a Disney movie. Um, there's so cute thing. You know,
they're like posed for the photo there like c g
I they don't even look real. And then it looked
like so friendly and fun and adorable, and I just
want one. Can you bring me back one of those
next time you go to Australia. Yeah, we might actually
make the trip down and do the two week mandatory
(06:18):
hotel quarantine and pay three thousand dollars h to then
just go and get a quaca and come back. We'll
break into the Australian to get a couple of quawkers
and USA then I I've never seen one. Literally, you
enlightened me as to what they were and I had
no idea prior to that, so thank you. You've changed
(06:38):
on them on Instagram and then I started doing like
lots of research. They live on like a remote island,
only found in Australia. You're apparently very friendly creatures. There's
only been a few coca attacks and I'd like to
have one as a pet. We should. We should make
that out, take a trip out there and a few
(06:58):
of them. I'm sure there's no international laws about transferring wildlife.
It's really great about it, and they bring anything in,
take anything out. Um, speaking of things coming out of Australia,
Keith Urban, were you fans of him when you were
first starting out of music. I don't know what you're
talking about. Urban. He's a AUSSI. He's actually actually our
(07:22):
uncles show were very familiar with Kate. Wow. Wow, what
are the dinner parties like with Keith and Nicole. I'm
it's you know, it's nice. It's yeah, you know, she's beautiful. Family.
Family kind of fights and stuff every now that. But
Kate Keith with a mass, massive influence and kind of
like our introduction and country music and introduction to Nashville.
So he's played a huge role in the reason why
(07:45):
he is so yeah, massive fans of Kith and I
can hear his influence in the song uh. The Kurt
single Breakups definitely is obvious and the song by the
way in the new video now out, Um, it's really
about a true life experience. Was it Jordan's? Was it
you who had the it was me? Uh? I went
through I guess a breakup Steve. Steve, I went through.
(08:08):
I went through a long distance kind of relationship thing
that we broke up and it was just tough because
like we didn't end on bad terms or anything. And
she was in Australia, I was in Nashville, and that
was super easy to make work because you can imagine, um,
but when that ended, we kind of we got on
a room with Liz Rose and Cameron Badell, two of
our favorite writers in town, and kind of just told
that story and it was very apparent at the time
(08:29):
and remained apparent. And I feel like as we started
like teasing it on social media and playing it for
friends and even playing it at shows and stuff, people
would always really like connect with that song and be
like that breakup song was blah blah blah and whatever.
So we kind of knew there was something special there
and it definitely like still hits, you know, just you
write something special that so like uh personal at a
particular time that, Yeah, we're really really stoked to have
(08:53):
it out in the world, and um, it means a
lot to us and to see people reacting the way
that they are really special and um, you know, we
wanted to kind of showcase the emotion in the new
music video and everything else too. So like it's been
a really cool journey for the song and we're excited
to see it hopefully continue to progress. One of the
two the video, did you enjoy making the video? And
(09:15):
I didn't confuse myself. One who was to Mitch, did
you enjoy the video? Okay? Got it. I didn't. I
feel like, this is like I was watching you and
you kind of looked miserable. No, I mean I loved
it. It It was honestly like this video was kind of
like the easiest one for us to do. I feel like,
because there was like a lot of b role that
we had the actors and they're doing their thing, and
we just showed up and did before we performances essentially
(09:38):
two performances for it, and it was like, all right,
have my guitar. It was easy. But I loved seeing
like the behind the scenes and we went and watched
how they made or everything else come come together. And
we've never had anything like that in any of our
music videos before. So yeah, it was it was awesome.
I enjoyed it. I really wanted to wear crocs because
they did a nice close up of me playing piano
and I really down just got crocs that, honest it
(10:01):
would have been amazing, but they didn't let me. Next time.
I do love the crocs. You guys aren't shy about
showing off the crocs, which I love. I have a
pair of myself. They're the best things. Ever. What well, college,
what what do you? What are you rocking, don't I
have actually have a stew pair. I have a couple
of pair from Luke Combs who sent some over. So
I think I have like a camel one from Luke's.
(10:22):
And then they have a black pair which I've had
for about, uh, I don't know, five years. Yeah, the
fuzzy part on the insides, they're like house shoes. Yeah,
we got the right red, yellow, the blue slides, yellow,
white pump stuff black pair too. I saw Diplo. Diplo
just released a pair that looked pretty pretty Uh swanky
(10:43):
might have to x not even available on the CROCS
side anymore. They sold out. You have to buy them
on like sneaker like. Yeah, that that is Lux right
there ver the CrOx Lux line. To make your names
even more confusing. Since there's a Jordan involved, Jordan Davis
this fall, you're going on with him the Dirt Tour.
(11:07):
So um have you so much told Jordan? We are
so we um. We we'd crossed paths a few times
doing like some like radio shows and that, but we
never like it was no more than just like, how
are what's going on? But we were always and that exactly, yes,
what's going on the tour announced with him, like we
were hanging for the majority of the day when we
(11:28):
were filming some stuff and some liners, and we all
got along so well and with Kenzie too, and I
just feel like the sonic of all of us together
and like our music and energy. I think it's going
to really blend so well. So we're so comed for it.
I think it's like like a perfectly rounded tour. We
like to we like to say our names wrong, so
like my name is Tom Jordan's, but I'll call myself
(11:49):
Todd Gordon, and I'll call Nick Johnson for Mitch Thompson,
and so I started calling Jordan Davis Gordon David, which
I think is quite good. So when we when we
like because I think, wait right before him on the
tour and I'm gonna be like you guys excited to
see Gordon David tonight, Like have you get off the stage?
(12:10):
Was great catching up with you guys, have fun on
the tour. I love your energy, I love that you
bringing I love the accidents. I love that you're bringing
me a quoca at some point in my life, and
or at least that you've helped me discover quotas on
a broader level, like I felt like I could bond
with you over that at least. Uh. Tom Jordan's on
the right and then Mitch Thompson on the left. Thank
(12:31):
you very much, see four. Thanks thanks for listening to
