Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Cody Cast. This this Cody Allen's podcast. Dude,
He's so sorry, Dude, Is everything all right? Like literally,
me and my wife just fell asleep and just woke up. Well,
this is what happens. I mean, you know, you're you're
you're so busy with the tour, with the album, with
(00:23):
the children, with the White Man, our kids, our kids. Yeah,
and so you need a good nap every once in
a while. So that's how you gotta keep it going.
I love a good cat nap. I It's like one
of my favorite hobbies. He's napping. And I can't figure
out if a twenty minute NAP's beneficial or a two
hours is too long. I think that's what we're trying
to figure out. Honestly, I would go with the tenty
minute because I feel like if I get more than
(00:45):
if I get more than thirty minutes, then I'm just
groggy and cranky. And yeah, I gotta go for the
smaller that myself. But you know, everyone's everyone's got thrown
a way anyway. Thomas rhet Ladies and gentlemen right here,
it's very excited. Let's talk about the project act uh.
It is called Center Point Road brand new. You called
this your most autobiographical tune yet, What will we learn
(01:07):
about you? And not only in this song, but in
you know, the lyrics at large in the album. Any
surprises here, Man, I just feel like, as a whole
the record is very uh nostalgic, you know what I'm saying. Like,
I think Center Point Road is one of those songs
that even when we were writing it, I didn't think
it was gonna be called Center Point Road, um, because
the hook of the song is Friday Night was everything. Um.
(01:28):
But as we got into it, man, center Point Road
kept raising his hand kind of as the whole centerpiece
of the project, between Remember You Young and that old
truck Center Point Road. Almost a lot of the songs
on this record really did refer back to you know,
just to me growing up and and um the lessons
I learned along the way and um. So as far
as surprises, man, I feel like a few of the
(01:48):
love songs on the record are a little bit deeper
into you know, minor large relationship than I feel like
even Die Happy Man, Unforgettable, Win um Less Less Rainbows
and Butterflies, if you will, um just a little bit
deeper layer and so I think that was a pretty
unique part about this record. But for the most part, man,
it's a lot about just looking back into my fifteen, sixteen,
(02:09):
seventeen year old self and you know, being inspired by
by growing up in Hendersonville and in the person I've
turned out to be today. And you went back to
Center Point Road to do some videos that's on your
Instagram and so on. So it's really it really is
a real place. Yeah, for sure. Man. It's like twenty
minutes north of Nashville. UM. And there was this spot
above our neighborhood and we called at the Meteor. It
was like basically a rock quarry, um, but it looked
(02:32):
like a giant a giant meteor had hit there, and uh.
And it was like a place that all my friends
would kind of you know, circle up and gather like
after football games on Friday nights or even just after
school on the Monday or Tuesday. And just like you know,
I made some of my best friends for life in
that little town and people I still hang out with today.
And so a lot of a lot of inspirations are
all from I tucked you up a little big town.
(02:53):
I was asking about, like what it's you know different
about country music these days versus um, you know, ten
twenty years ago whatever, And they said, it's got more
groove now than ever before. You know what, country It's
always sort of evolving anyway, And I thought, if there's
anyone who sort of does that best, it's you. Yeah, Man,
I'm like, I just I love to dance, even though
I'm terrible advancing, I loved I love to move, and
(03:16):
I love for our live shows to have more of
that tempo, you know what I'm saying, Like, I want
people to come to our show and be like, Man,
I did not expect to hear that cover or I
did not expect him to record a song like that
on this record, And those are my favorite parts. So
making these records a kind of um doing things that
kind of people would never expect from me. Um. So
obviously there's a lot of great story songs on this record,
(03:36):
but their songs like you know, don't put Me with
a good Time and look what God gave her that
I do kind of feel like coming out of left field,
but they're all still kind of cohesively. Thomas htt At
what point the lights would go off in your head
that maybe that was your niche in country music that
uh sort of groove oriented sound. Man. It wasn't like
a an easy thing. I remember going on out of
my first record, and I think the first time I
(03:56):
ever did something like this was like, uh was making
me off my first record and then going into crash
and burn and then going into T shirt. Um. I
kind of felt like with those songs, I started developed
sort of my own niche in this genre. UM. And
sometimes you can do that. It can be an ethic
sale or sometimes it can it can boost you a
little bit. And so I think when I when I
(04:18):
started put those songs out and through recognize that sound
from me, it kind of became a little bit of
a staple of of what my records kind of entail.
And and it's been really flimming to be able to make,
you know, my own Brandon country music that that a
lot of people are really digging by the way I'm picturing,
you know, after the nap. But just like a bad
case of BedHead, am I right? Yeah? Yeah, exactly, just
(04:38):
put pants on for the first time. It's a good day.
Oh okay, I feel like you moved outside too, are
you outdoors? Though? Inside? I had to get away from
my kids from screaming for a second. Let's talk about
the kids for a second here, because obviously you have
all kinds of ladies in your life these days. Look
at what Guy gave or is a you know a
great song that sort of talks about all that, particularly Lauren,
(04:58):
but now the yeah, your two girls as well. So
what have you learned about women being in the situation
suddenly you were in over the past two years? Um,
I know that that I do not ruin anything in
this household, that is for sure. UM My uh, my
wife and my two girls. Many they've literally they've changed
my wife. I mean, my wife changed my wife and
I got the marrier. But when I had my kids,
(05:21):
I really did turn into a kind of a different person. Um.
Not that I was ever an impatient person, but I
think when you have kids, as you know, you're kind
of just not allowed to be impatient anymore. It's just
not it's just not in the cards. Um. And I
feel like I'm more joyful too. Like I've always been
a really happy guy, but I feel like since I've
had kids, I have experienced a lot more joy in
my life than I ever has. And so, UM, I
(05:41):
don't know, man, as if we keep having kids, I
love having girls. Man, Although I'd love a boy, if
we keep having girls, I would not. I would love it.
I love one of the songs on the new album
called Rumor You Young, um, and so I wondered, I
wondered about you as a child. What were you like
as a kid? Um? I see a lot of me
in both of my kids. UM. I I was kind
(06:04):
of one of those kids that. UM. I grew up
kind of normal, pretty simple life. Other than in fact,
my dad's same country music. I feel like I grew
up pretty simple. Um. I was a good kid. UM,
but I did I did bad things with with good
kids in high school that makes any sense, um, never
really got caught. But so if if my kids are
(06:24):
anything like me, I'm sure they'll have a little bit
of a mystidious side. But but they're gonna think they're
gonna be great, great girls. Let's up with the tour,
real fast, very hot summer tour. UM. I looked at
the set list and it reminded me of just how
many like hits you have, which at this point it's
got to make putting together a full on show a
lot easier. Right, it's been it's been really cool man. Um,
it's been really cool to kind of get back into
rehearsal this year and take a lot of our older here.
(06:46):
So we had like my first and second record and
kind of rearranging them musically and making them really fresh
for our ears and making them really fresh for you know,
our fans ears that I've seen our show, you know,
a couple of times. But it's been really cool to
put together a solid, you know, nodding minute set where
the majority of that show is we're number one songs
on the radio. Um, we're a really really special spot.
So you don't melt away out there on the very
(07:08):
hot summer tour. Are their wardrobe considerations you've taken to
online and like planning what you're gonna wear every night.
I did feel like I was gonna meilt this weekend
in Orange Beach. I mean it was like a hundred
degrees in the shade. Um, and usually you don't want
to wear a gray and I wore a gray T
shirt two nights in a row. So it, um, it
went from gray to to really dart gray in about
thirty seconds. Um, So we're gonna have to start figuring
(07:29):
out something else? Does Lauren and the and the kids
make it out. I know they enjoy going out on
the road with you. Are they out on every show
or just uh here and there? Um, they come to
They come to shows that are easy to bust to
anything like they were in Orange Beach within this weekend,
and um, any time we're in the town next to
a beach, Lauren is definitely gonna come. Um. But yeah,
they come when when it's easy to get to. Um,
(07:50):
usually West Coast is kind of difficult with travel, but
other than that, many they kind of come anywhere within
three or four. And I saw you with the weekend
in the range at the Orange Beach show with the
cowboy had on, which took me that with your dad
a little bit. Um, Yeah, you do you have any
cowboy hats you actually own yourself? For any of Dad's
I don't. Man, there was a guy in the crowd
who was wanting to trade hats something, so I gave
him my past pro hat and I took his cowboy
(08:12):
hat and I think it was about three sizes two big,
so I had to hold it onto my head. But
my dad, my dad is opening the shows for us
all this year and Dad brought out out the cowboy hat.
So I'm real quick as we wrap things up here.
Seemed to Music Awards happening next week or up for
Male Video of the Year for Life Changes, So, um,
what do you remember about making that video first? Um?
Life Changes was filling because it was the only live
(08:35):
video I've ever gotten to make, UM, And it was
really cool for the camera crew to get to travel
with me for an entire weekend and really capture the
energy of what our shows feel like. UM, and my
girls happened to be on the road with me that
weekend as well, so it was really cool to get
to capture them, Uh, just kind of what it's like
when they're on the road, Like kind of what it's
like for a Will to be on stage watching sound
check and grabbing my microphone and Ata jumping around. And
(08:57):
it was really a special video to make. And looking
back at the seemed to me towards at large, like,
what's been some of your favorite moments or moment uh
from that show? Well? I think the CMT Awards were
the first ever red carpet I got to walk, UM,
so I kind of kind of share some nostalgia with that, Um,
I remem we're going into that with note with no
music video on CNT and being like, well what am
I going to talk about on the red carpet? Um?
(09:19):
And now and now being there getting to talk about
quite a bit of stuff man, And uh, you know,
getting performed this year with with a Little Big Town
is going to be super super cool. You're a fashion guy.
You like clothes and shoes especially, but um, do you
remember what you wore on that first CMT Music Awards
red carpet? I bet I was still wearing a hat
on the red carpet at that point, like a backwards
black baseball cap. Um. And I'm sure that somebody at
(09:42):
the label was like, buddy, we need to work on
you a little bit. So we've we've come, We've come
a long way too soon. Yeah, good stuff. Well listen,
I'm so excited for you. A phenomenal album out right now.
T R Thomas, Red, Thankyboddy, Thank you all so much, man,
