Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Ellen's podcast. This is Cody cast Lay
Lauren Bushell. Thank you for coming up. And by the way,
let's start with the business at hand, because Bumble is
given twenty five thousand dollars to your charity, which is
j d R F Right Diabetes Research Foundation. Yes, so
I love this. Why is that charity? By the way
(00:22):
important to you guys? My youngest brother, Brett has UM
type one diabetes and as a family, it's just something
that we have tried to support him through and he
was diagnosed as a teenager. And there's you know, kids
who are dealing with us at all ages all around
the world. So it's something that helps research, it supports
families and helps network type one diabetics UM together all
(00:44):
over the world. Well, I love that you guys are
doing that and helping out UH such a great cause.
And thank you to Bumble for giving so much back
as well. And you guys are the perfect representation of
what Bumble kind of is. I mean, by the way,
you didn't meet on Bumble. Did you know we did
not meet Bubble? How did you meet Chris? We actually
met uh several years ago, probably four years ago in
(01:05):
Austin Texas at a radio thing that she was randomly at,
and um, we got a chance to say hello to
each other. And from then on we became distant friends
that kind of just randomly kept in touch every once
in a while. And then I was taking a friend's
trip to the Bahamas in August of last year, randomly
(01:27):
just asked her if she wanted to go, and I
felt like she would be a fun candidate to bring along.
It was a random as it was a very random
and honestly we hit it off. So it was it
like the first first date. I mean, yes, and no,
I don't know if you can call it a date,
because I think a majority of the trip we were
still just friends. But I think it was those moments
(01:49):
that we realized how much we enjoyed being around each other. Nice. Um,
and you knew her because she obviously was on the
bat so previously. So um, and you're a big in
yeah yeah, and you're man enough to admit it for sure.
I watched every season since the beginning. Now now that
we're to get we haven't watched The Bachelor and quite
(02:09):
some time, But um, yes, I believe I did watch
her season. I don't remember much about it. But um,
I think when we first originally met, she was just
coming off the show, I believe. And it's crazy four
or five years later, ever, how long it's been, Um,
we're engaged now. It's insane. Congratulations and I was gonna
get to that, but thank you, thank get up. So
(02:30):
and we all saw how you proposed with song which
went against your tourmate Brad Paisley's, which is who said
that you probably should not do it, you know, proposal
with a song. And why why did he say that?
You know? I think it was mostly because it could
get real awkward if she doesn't love the song. Fortunately,
(02:51):
you love the song, you said yes, and so why
do it that way with the song for you? I
was at Honestly, I never planned on doing it that way.
And she even we had talked about it before. She
was like she had already given me like, don't you
dare do it in front of anybody, like don't bring
me out on stage. You don't don't obviously, but I
(03:12):
would just rather it not be onest Yeah, she don't.
She don't like the like being in the lights, been
in front of a lot of people. Yeah, so uh,
I decided to do it in this way. I started
writing this song, and uh we went back in two
or three times trying to get it right. And then
in the third verse I told him, told the guys
I was writing it with my plans to propose, and
(03:34):
I said, honestly, wouldn't mind trying to write that third
verse as a proposal and using the song to do
it with. And that's exactly what we did. And uh,
despite what Brad Paisley said, I just went through with
it and it all worked out big, big plans is
this song? It's out right now, and of course you're
(03:55):
really single, doing really well. Also, I don't know about you,
and thank you. So what do you think of I
don't know about you? You like that? Yes? Love? I
mean I would say that regardless, but I genuinely do this.
Is that your favorite track office album? Um? Yes? But
obviously now that I um, you know, when we first
started dating, I listened to the whole Um record and
(04:16):
I love there's a couple other songs that you don't
really play at your shows that I also love. But yeah,
there's a couple. I mean, the whole record is really good.
Yeah good? All right? Maybe yeah, you guys probably never
talked like that, do you like, I mean about each
other's work. No, No, I should probably say it more
because I do genuinely think he's so talented. But that's good.
(04:37):
That means you don't bring your work home, Chris. That
means you're like, you know, it's just about you guys
when you get Yeah, which is the way I think
it really ship should be. For sure, we have so
much fun together, that is one thing that is for sure.
Have you guys chosen the date yet for the wedding,
because this is when the questions come. Once the ring
is there, then all the questions and all the plans
have to be made. Yeah, we don't know yet. We're
(04:58):
still trying to figure it out. Obviously, I want to
do it sooner than later, and I think she wants
to do it sooner than later. Um, But for me,
I'm just gonna My goal is to stay out the
way and let her do her thing. And when she
thinks she's got it. I mean, my schedule so busy
right now it makes it a little more difficult. But um, yeah,
whenever she's ready to do it, that's when I'll be
(05:19):
ready to do it. And what drew you to Chris,
I'm curious, you know, I don't know if any one
particular thing, and especially I wasn't necessarily initially, I never
thought we would date when we first met, but I
was always drawn to his sense of humor. He was
so genuine, so warm. He had just had this presence
about him that I enjoyed being around. I didn't think
(05:39):
that would lead to us engaged and getting married, but
obviously those same traits I still, you know, now love
about him where when I first met him, I recognized them.
I just obviously wasn't in love with him yet. So
what's your perfect go to date night? If you had to?
What would you guys like to do on the perfect
(06:00):
day night? Chris um gave me details as to what
it's perfect date would be, So maybe you should tell
Cody what what your ideal date would be. My ideal
date would be, Um, good, golf in the morning. Wait, wait,
this is your ideal day or your ideal date date?
(06:22):
Both started off with golf in the morning. Do you
play golf at all? We did top golf the other day.
I'm not a golfer, was surprisingly good. Her dad, my
dad a brother's golf So I grew up around it.
I'm familiar with it, but there was. And then the
second part to the date was second part of the
date was we go to a Carolina Panthers football game
(06:43):
as a couple date, like a good night to me.
But Lauren did not necessarily agree with I'll do it
once in a while. But I would say realistically, our
our our ideal date consists of, you know, probably cooking dinner,
watching a movie because we're never home, so it's nice
to we like to just we enjoy that. This is
(07:03):
like your dream fantasy date, Chris, And so what would
your dream fantasy date be if his is like football
and golf. I'm glad you asked this question. Um, now
answer the man fantasy date. Probably, I don't know, like
a spaw day that leads to like a nice dinner.
(07:24):
I'm still low key. I don't necessarily yeah, a spotty
of a massage and then we go back, get dinner
and then still go home early. I like to be
in bed by ten o'clock. I don't like neither one
of us, I will say this, neither one of us
know how to rally. No more tired. We're tired, We're
ready to get to are you walking along for some
(07:46):
of the dates on the Bread Paisley tour. Yeah. Yeah,
I've been out there a little bit. Um, I'll be
out there again in a couple of weeks. I've had
that I do. Yes. I also it's it's hard sometimes
I don't sleep well on the bus. But yes, it's
so much fun. And it's so fun too. I mean
we actually do get to spend it's it's quality time.
There's a lot of people around all the time, but
(08:07):
it's fun. We play cornhole, we right around birds, um,
explore the city so and especially I try to pick
you know, specifically dates and cities that I've never been to,
in places that I can see. And yeah, it's fun
uh in house that tour going, I know, being with Brad.
He's one of the guys you looked up to early
on your career, right, Yeah, yeah, for sure. Um, the
(08:27):
tour has been great and for me, I feel like
it's been a good opportunity to go out and play
in front of people that aren't necessarily always showing up
to my headlining shows. I tend to have a uh,
I think when I play a headlining show, I tend
to have a really young fan base and out of
these shows, I'm just playing to an array of different people. Um,
(08:50):
because he really draws a huge demographic. Yeah, no doubt
about it. And and that's great for me because I
can play UH in front of a lot of people
every night that hopefully will eventually the U maybe like
what I did on stage and show up at a
headlining show. What's your favorite breath Paisley song Mud on
the Tires Love Mudd on the Tier. I mean, he
has so many that I really love a lot, but um,
(09:12):
that's one of them. And what's your favorite Chris Lane song? Lauren?
I mean I have to say a big but yes,
that's my favorite obviously personal. And then I don't know
about you, and you were a flight attendant before all
of this, So what was the craziest thing you ever
saw on a plane? I like to pride myself on
the fact that I never had crazy flights. I had
(09:32):
like the most uneventful flights, and I appreciated that some
flight attendants would tell stories and I'm like, Okay, I'm
never flying with you. I don't want to experience that.
But I would say probably just drunk people getting a
little rowdy, especially those Vegas flights. People like to start
the party early, so just kind of like calming it down.
Didn't you say, Pete in the corner? Oh, my sister
(09:54):
is a flight attendant and it did occur on one
of her flights. I don't know what he was drinking,
but yeah, didn't go to the bathroom, just just in
the corner of her galley. Well, you gotta go, you
gotta go. Thanko to see you guys. Thanks for coming by.
I really appreciate it. Thank you very much. Thank you.
