Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is podcast stand studio here from Nashville, stept for
the CMET Artists for your show on October sixteenth. It
will air on CMT TV. We got Kane Brown one
of our CMT Artists of the Year. I mean seriously, yeah,
we only pick five. I know. It's a great great

(00:21):
to be in. So how does it feel when you
look back sort of on this year and realize you're
one of our artists of the year. Um, it feels awesome,
and uh, you know CMT has always been good to me,
so thank you all for that. Um, but it's just
it's great. I feel like, you know, me and my
team managers and everybody worked uh for this kind of situation.
So it's awesome just to be a part of the

(00:42):
amazing lineup that you'll have when it comes too thousand nineteen,
because it really is your specific and we know you've
had a phenomenal year. But when you look back on
this year, is there like a moment or a highlight
that you go, Okay, that's my favorite moment. I don't know.
I think what we were just talking about was the
Staples Center. Um, you know a lot of people told

(01:02):
me that it wasn't typical, typically the place that a
country artist would go um and we were close to
um Garth Brooks record. We sold out the Staples Center
in ninety minutes, so it was like that was really
cool just to be a part of that. Wow, did
Marshmallows show up that night? We hadn't done it yet yet. No,

(01:23):
it's it's gonna be in October, but he's not even announced.
He's gonna be. He's going to be a special guest
and show up for one night. We just we've let
the cat out of the back. I think we expected
to have at least I do as a guy who
is familiar with that song, and the song is such
a huge hit. Thank you that your collaboration with Marshmallow
and knowing you know it's such a huge pop scene
in l A. It makes sense. So I'm just justifying

(01:45):
what your management's already approved. But it's a good idea, folks,
it's a very good idea. So congratulations. Well I need
to go to that show. We need to take Hot
twenty to that one. Don't be a huge show to
be a come on, what's the date on that? October eighteen? Okay,
so it's coming pretty quick. Do you feel pressure on
a night, you know it's gonna be that big. I mean,
because here's the deal. Kane is so cool, he's so

(02:07):
calm collected. I don't ever get this, since you ever
get rattled by anything, but do you Is there any
nervous that's going into that night? No? I think it's
gonna be a great night because which Uh, I got
my buddy Blanco's it's gonna be on it and his
songs going huge right now, so um, he'll be on there.
We got Gabby Bard on it and uh Granger, which

(02:27):
I got to. I was on tour Granger all year,
So it'll just be, you know, back to what we've
already done. Um and then of course Mellow as a
special guest. And we're actually adding to our show because
we're getting to put Pyro, which I've been wanting. Yeah,
so it'll be a big difference of us bring out
the Pyro real quick. You brought Blanco and I was

(02:48):
gonna mention this, but since you brought up you know,
Blanc has got his song which is doing so well.
You've got Old Town Road of course from Little Nossax
and Billy Ray and sort of just this. Oh and
you've got collaborations like yours and several others to their
are crossing over into other genres. Um, what's going on
with country music? Are we entering sort of the interesting
phase where it's just more rhythmic, more you know, hip hop,

(03:10):
because guys like you who were influenced by that, are
you know, becoming stars? Yeah? I don't know. Honestly, I
feel like, Um, I could be wrong, but I've I've
been seeing like the same the same kind of thing happened,
and where it's just the trend that we were on.
It's kind of just changing over to another trend um,

(03:34):
which honestly, I don't think. I think it'll be done
with this with the Old Town Road and then to
Get Up. I think those are gonna be the only
two and then it's gonna go to something else completely.
I mean, I know, I even changed how I've been
writing songs. I went for an experiment where it was
just basically show songs to put some rhythm in it,
get everybody moving a little bit. The next one, I'm

(03:54):
I've kind of changed my thing where I just want
to write serious and meaningful songs. Um. And if they
have lyrics that are your tip cool lyrics and then
they're not going in there. Um so yeah, I don't know.
I think it's just a trend thing. I think those
will be the only two songs. It's doing what they're doing,
and then I think it's gonna move on. What's great Also,
I think about what you do and one of the
reasons I think you've had such a huge year is

(04:17):
because when you open your mouth, it's country. I mean,
you know, you're seeing country, your voices country, and you've
always been that way. By the way. You look back
at even the early stuff that started streaming services with
U Kane, it's like it was just distinctly country music,
even though it's fun to hear you with Marshmallow two.
Um so the right on Night tour with the Jason
Althanio course that's been happening. Um. I know Jason is

(04:38):
a good friend of yours. He gave you a little
bit of advice when it came to, you know, raising
a family, and even through a baby shower right yeah, okay,
cool baby shower force over at the quarry you know
where that's it In Franklin. It was actually like point
eight miles from my old house, and I never knew
it was around. It's actually gonna be a venue now,
just saying point eight miles too. Yeah, that's I'm moved.

(05:01):
I'm not there yet, but anyway, it's a It was
an awesome place. It was something that they didn't have
to do, but they did it and it was amazing.
Uh yeah, it was beautiful. What was the best gift
you got? We got some cool things. We got some
things I didn't even know they invented, Uh that we've
we've even put them together last night. There's like a rocker. Um,
what's like a baby chair. As you put them in
and you can control it from your phone and make

(05:22):
it like bounce and play music. Yeah. So yeah, my
wife probably made Cardi Cardi b play. He's like dancing
and the I love that. You also sort of walked
in the Jason footsteps and announced the baby's name early,
Uh Kingsley, Um, and so how did you guys come
up with that name? Well, we wanted to if we're

(05:42):
having a boy, we're gonna name him. Um. She liked
the name Kingston, Um, just to call him King for
short and on KB of course. Um. But then we
found out it was a girl and we both decided Kingsley,
which I like Kingsley better than Kingston anyway, Yeah, I
did too. I think it's a great name. How is
Mama doing anyway? She's doing good. She thinks she's you know,
she thinks she's getting big, but she's literally she's just

(06:05):
she hasn't gained any weight and she has a basketball
out is their stomach. Um. So I don't know. So
what are you looking forward to most when it comes
just being a dad? I just I grew up with
a father figure. So I'm just wanting to be the
dead that I've never had. Um, you know, I be
there for the first broken heart, be there for sports.
I want to be a coach, um, and just you know,

(06:27):
take her to school hopefully when I can. Um, I
don't know. I just just her live in her best
life and may be in there to see it. There
will be some ups and downs, and with kids and
travel like you do, I can tell you and from
my experience to just raising kids and being out on
the road a lot, maybe too much sometimes, um, that

(06:48):
you will miss moments and it's tough, like homesick. Your
song now it really speaks to that, and you wrote
that while missing Caitlin. Right, yeah, and my dogs, I
mean dogs are best friends man. Uh and of course
my family. How do you make life when the road
feel better to you, like feel like home? Uh? Well

(07:08):
now it's kind of changed. So now, um, like we
had my dogs out last week for the first time
in a while, which was cool. It was a little crowded,
but Kate's Kate's basically on the road with me every
time now, um, and we've been on the road so
much recently that it's kind of like our tour bus
is just our first home and then our house is
our second, which it should be reversed, I feel like,
but um yeah, I just I feel like when I'm

(07:30):
on my bus now it's just became natural that that's
my home. I got pictures hung up everywhere, um, like
candles lit Caitlin did all that. But yeah, it's just homie. Now.
You guys, are you being on Halloween? Will you be
dressing up? Is that a big thing to you? Yeah?
My my wife loves Halloween. Um, so yeah, we'll probably

(07:52):
we Last year we didn't have any trick or treaters
and she begged me. I wasn't at home. She begged
me to come home on time I get there. We
didn't have one tricker treater I, so they went outside
and ringing the doorbell. I think I told you about
this before, um, and acted like I was trick or treating.
You know. Yeah, we dressed up and she picked out
some costumes. Um. She wanted to be. UM. I don't

(08:14):
know if I can say only the right yet. Okay, okay,
well surprises, we'll all look for those posts. Kind of
a wild card question to close with here. UM. I
was thinking about this this morning because a lot of
times in our crazy, chaotic world today, we think that
if you're different, it's a bad thing. I watched this
movie tall Girl over the weekend on Netflix. I don't

(08:36):
know if you'll seen that, but it really is about
this girl who's like, you know, she's in high school
and she's the tallest girl in school, and how she's
made fun of and like how she battles through that.
And look, we're all a little different, and I think
sometimes we let our difference, the thing that makes us different,
get in the way of realizing our greatness. So growing up,

(08:57):
be it the way you grew up with the colverage skin,
did you ever think the thing that made you different
was gonna hold you back because my point is going
to be that those things make us better, right, those
actually make a stand out, make us better than we are.
How did you get through that? Uh? Well, for me, Um, luckily,

(09:18):
I just always played sports, so I kind of just
blocked it out with sports. And then um, once I
got older, I started realizing, um, realizing things. Uh. I
liked music, so I moved in with my roommate, one
of my best friends, Treil, and I actually changed how
I looked. I tried to be like everybody else. So

(09:39):
when I was singing, you know the covers I would,
I went out and bought a best Pro shop had
I bought some cowboy boots. I always wore my boots
tucked into my jeans because like, I went to Saudi
Daisy and it was if you ain't from Sada, you
ain't nobody. But I got like it was that country. Uh.
So I was trying to fit in with everybody. And
then after I moved in with my my room mate,

(10:00):
He's like, bro, like what are you wearing? We gotta
change your clothes. He was like, think about this. If
you don't if you look like you were app and
then you see country music, you're gonna be huge. And
so I changed my look up and you know, got
rid of the best pro shop at, started wearing something

(10:20):
the but some grant some of the clothes. He put
me on a little too hood for me. I'm not
gonna lie, but but I want him And that was
kind of when uh, you know, thanks started taking off
with us. So yeah, it was it was just basically
embrace your differentness. Yeah. I think that works as an
individual and just collectively. I think we you look around,

(10:42):
we sometimes think, oh, if they're not like me, then
I can't I don't want to have anything to do
with them. I think that's just so like short sided.
The truth is that collectively we're all better when we
embrace the differences. Yeah. I mean a great example is
M on tour with the Aldeen right now, Um, you know,
and it's you know, sometimes it's fifty fifty. Sometimes it's

(11:03):
fans and you see, like the his fans as you
can tell they're his fans and cowboy hats or whatnot
right up in the front row. Sometimes it will con
intimidate you. But then when you break out like good
as you or uh like lose it um what is?
Haven't you see them? Just pay attention and just singlem
So it's like, okay, so you know the songs you like,

(11:26):
you sing the songs, so it's okay to be different.
We can all get along. Yeah, listen, dude, I love
you to death. Thank you for coming in. Congratulates on
the incredible year, and so happy you're one of our
artists of the year. We'll see you October six on CMPT.
