Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is podcast. Are you sick of um murd yet?
Always that what they call you guys. I don't I've
heard that. I only got heard that yet murder that. No,
I can't get sick you guys. I told him this,
and I I told him this if I feel like
I had not really had a conversation with him until

(00:23):
he came here, because every time I see you guys,
it's always like we're walking past each other. Oh yeah,
it's like fly by. It's like this weird fly by thing.
And um, I'm always like, hey, it's nice to chill
and just like actually get to know him a little bit. Um.
What a good guy though, I mean, just a sweetheart.
I can just tell you the sweet guy he is.
He's like you can always tell how a man talks

(00:46):
to his mom, Like what kind of man he is,
and he has such a great relationship with her, and
he's just like he's very thoughtful. Um. He's also super tall. Yeah,
well everyone is to me, but he's especially tall. Yes,
And so he's like six three I think he said,
it's so health taller. You your five one. So he's

(01:06):
over a foot taller than that's a big difference. I
had to wear like mega platforms on our wedding day
to even reach his face. I love his song too,
and I know you sing background on that song. And
to a Tea is the name of it, and it's
that's a great song. Thanks. I told him. I was like,
I'm seriously reconsidering, like you're intellect if you don't record

(01:32):
this song. It's so good. I'll be like his and
R person and vice versa forever. And girl is your
new song. And it's also like so good, thank you, congratulations,
thank you so much. I am. I'm really proud and
I'm just like relieved to have a new thing out. Yeah,

(01:53):
tell me about this song. And kind of obviously it
really sort of speaks to um like a pep talk
almost in the lyrics to yourself. Right, that's a good
way of describing it. Actually, I've been trying to describe
it in not so many words, but yeah, it's sort
of like a pep talk. It's like a chill pill
um no. I I started writing it last year with

(02:15):
um My co writers and I was just having a
really hard day because I was going through something with
another girl, uh where we just could not get on
the same page with each other and it was a
friend and but we were like competing against each other
and none of us really knew why. But I was
kind of writing this song starting out as a letter

(02:35):
to her, and it was me saying, hey, I'm a
fan of you. I don't know why we're like this,
but can we like just get along? And then I
kind of realized after a short amount of time, I'm
not writing this to her, I'm writing this to me,
Like I need to hear this right now. So it's
a really self reflective song where it's just like, you know,

(02:57):
it's tough to look in the mirror and just be
like I don't like myself right now, and it's not
going to be forever, but today I don't like myself
and that's okay. Like we don't always love everything we do.
We're not perfect, we're humans, and um, the end of
the chorus of this song is just saying like, no
matter what, no matter how hard it is at this

(03:19):
particular moment in time, it's going to be okay. So
I felt like I needed to hear that, and I
felt like if I needed to and it helped me
just writing it and healing, Um, it would maybe help
people girls and guys hear it and feel like they're
not alone in there, they're imperfection. Yeah, it is a
really good message to hear because I think we all

(03:41):
struggle with something that we're dealing with on a regular basis.
So to sort of give yourself that sort of like
allowance to turn the page and say, Okay, well today sucks,
but tomorrow's gonna better, it's all. Yeah. Well, when it
comes to this single, um, first one from the brand
new album, why was this song is sort of the
perfect one to launch everything. Well, when I heard the

(04:03):
recording Backup Girl after I wrote it, I just couldn't
stop listening to it. It was one of those songs
that I hadn't really um had that reaction to since
my church, where I just listened to it obsessively over
and over again and it just felt even more in
love with it, and um, I don't know, it just

(04:24):
had like a really emotional impact on me, even as
the writer. Sometimes like you have to wait a couple
of days and get the song back and you're like,
we wrote that like that that's exactly what I needed
to hear, and Uh, it being the first single was
important because I think it's really timely, like in the
country right now, in the world right now, we're super

(04:45):
like an anxious and it feels like sometimes like we'll
never not be uh, super polarized. It's like I want
everyone to really understand each other on a deeper level,
and it just seems like sometimes it will never be
over with all the bickering and uh, you know, social
media comparisons and it's just, yeah, there's a lot of negativity.

(05:10):
So I felt like this song is really really positive,
but not in a preachy way. And even though the
title is girl, it's really for everybody. It's everyone is
going through a battle of their own, and this one
is about the fact that we're all connected in the
battles that we fight, and uh, music is such a

(05:31):
transcendental medium of receiving like a message on a clear
cut level. So this song just is an anthem and
it's a positive one. What else can you feel about
the album number two? You set the bar really high
with the first projects, So yeah, I knew that I

(05:51):
didn't want to depart too far from the album I've
made a few years ago, but I definitely wanted to
keep the same spirit but put the sound forward and
also write about things that I'm going through now. And
there's a lot more love songs on this record. Ryan,
my husband has obviously been an incredible muse over the

(06:13):
last few years, and these songs reflect that. And there
are two songs on the album that are duets, so
I can't wait to like announce those finally because they're
really powerful songs, really fun songs. And uh, it's a
lengthier album than Hero was, has a couple more songs

(06:34):
on it, and it's really all over the place. It's
like similar to the Hero like Hero had a few
different like vibes going on, and this one does too.
Congratsly Grammy nominations as well, Um, what's that experience like? Well,
the first year obviously was massive because I had never
been nominated before, and I was nominated for Best New
Artist and a couple other like Country Awards for My

(06:58):
Church and my album here. So that was my first
experience with the Grammys. And I was performing and I remember,
like right before my performance was the category for Solo
Country Solo Performance and I ended up winning for My
Church and I was just riding high and I performed
right after with Alicia Keys, and that was just you know,

(07:20):
one of the best nights of my life. My mom
was my date, my family got to be there, Ryan
got to be there. Uh. And then last year it
was like it was amazing in another way, and the
fact that like I was nominated again for I could
use a love song, but then Brothers Osborne, Eric Church
and I got to do them the tribute performance for

(07:41):
the Vegas victims, and uh, it was just a really
emotional performance. And then that same night it was like
so many things happening. The Middle Uh premiered during the
Grammy broadcast and all of last year it was kind
of dominated by the Middle, and um, you know, starting

(08:01):
this year with five nominations, it's just incredible. I really
can't believe my life sometimes. And you're well known now
in those other circles because of the Middle and you,
I mean, have you noticed a difference It sort of
your fans who may not know that you're a country
artists finding out about you. Oh yeah, I mean the
Middle happened right before I went on tour with Nile

(08:22):
Horn from One Direction and we were touring the US.
We're touring South America, Australia, New Zealand, and like being
in South America and singing the middle and then all
these like like Brazilians singing it back at the top
of their lungs. I realized, like, you know, this song
has really brought my name and voice to a universal audience,

(08:46):
and so that was a really cool thing. I can help.
But notice the picture that you tweeted. It was you
and Ryan. I think it was maybe November. Um, but
it was like the caption read gonna have your babies? Yeah,
so have you guys talked about that? Um? Is it
even on the radar as a possibility or where are
you on that? As I sound like your mother here
suddenly when am I getting grandchildren? Yes, I'll bring them by. Um.

(09:11):
You know I we definitely have talked about it. I mean,
when you're married, it's like, of course you want to
explore those dreams with the other person. But when I
posted that caption on that picture from our Paris trip,
I was like trying to be playful, like I'm gonna
have your babies, And then every comment was like are
you announcing you're pregnant? And I was like, oh, prap,

(09:34):
like I shouldn't have had that drink, and then tweeted
that like I really should have thought this through. But no,
I'm not pregnant. Um, not going to be pregnant anytime
soon because I have to like put this album out
and tour. But uh, yeah, we've we've definitely talked about it.
He'd he'd be a great dad. Yeah, yeah, he's a
warning person. Yeah. We asked him some questions sort of

(09:55):
newly wed game style, and we have his answers, and
I just want to see if he at him right
according to what you would stay here? So, uh, what
is Marion Morris's favorite TV show? To Binge? What would
that be? Veep? Veep? I love that it's the best
comedy on TV. I love that you watched that, because like,
no one watches it that I am that I talked to.

(10:18):
I have the same problem when I bring it up
or Ship's Creek, which is my other new favorite. I've
heard good things about that. It's super dry but super funny. Um,
but when I bring up the v people like, what, Yeah,
it's like HBO. A lot of people like don't And
it's also like a political show, but it's like satire
and it's like hilarious. It's it's so r rated, but

(10:40):
it's so good. We watched that like every night to
fall asleep because it's just on in the background. But yeah,
Julie Louis Dreyfus, I love her as Selena Meyer the best,
the best. Her wine liners are so good, I mean,
and the cast is so good. Um, what is your
least favorite chore? Least favorite chore? What did he say?

(11:01):
All of them? My least favorite chore probably like doing
the dishes because I hate looking at like old food.
Here's what Ran said. Oh, she hates putting dishes in
the dishwasher. Okay, okay, we're doing good, good at this game.
We've lived together for like almost three years, so hopefully

(11:22):
we know all these things. But now let's try another here. Um,
what is your dream vacation? I think I'm trying to
think like what he would say I would think. I
guess like I love beaches. So we've already been on.
He's been wanting to go to the beach for so long.
I'm going to say something specific, but yeah, beaches, you

(11:47):
guys are going. I have a Yeah, I have a gig.
I'm doing the Brandy Carlo Festival in Mexico. So yeah.
And finally, last but not least, we asked Ryan, what
what would you find would be most annoying thing about him?
Most annoying trade characters? Oh my god, I have to

(12:08):
think about it because like he's he's not that annoying,
but like I'm sure like there's one thing that probably
really annoys me on a regular basis of his maybe
like when he shaves, he leaves like a hair bomb
in the sink. Here's what he said. There's so many

(12:28):
things that I could point to, like she's just so annoyed.
I don't know, I don't keep her I think she
gets annoyed at I don't keep her bus very clean sometimes.
And then I'll say that he doesn't leave his hair
bomb that actually is really annoying. Um, well, a bus
is like so tight quarters anyway. And then when he
leaves like bottles or like dirty laundry or towels, like

(12:53):
just anywhere, I'm always cleaning up behind him because I
can't rest until it's it's spicking span like at on
that game. I feel like that was really yeah, yeah,
I'm happy with that. I'm okay with that. Hey listen,
thank you for coming in. Totally thrilled about the new song,
and I can't wait for the project and real quick
plug for the Girl Tour. I'm going on tour once

(13:17):
the album comes out with Cassidy Pope and Raylan. So
it's the Girl It's called the Girl Tour, So bringing
my girls. Speaking of aweso women. Um, Aaron Opria was
here last week too nice, So I was sorry yesterday.
I'm really sore. Yeah, she's the best kick in my butt.
What did she make you do? Squat? I mean for me, like,

(13:39):
as a dude, I just hate squads. I hate any
leg thing. Yeah, a lot of guys do. Uh Ryan
hates leg day. Um, she honestly is. It's like a
very well rounded workout. I mean she obviously has Carrie
Underwood's legs looking amazing, so I want to have a
bowse But yesterday she brought the ab wheel over and

(14:01):
that thing is the hardest. Hate it. But um, I
don't really like leg exercises either, because that's probably where
I need it the most. As she forced you to drink,
she forced me to drink the beet juice. She's all
about the beat juice shot. I mean it was actually okay. Yeah,
she makes it taste like tolerable, but I'm just not

(14:23):
a beat fan. Thank you, Thank you, thanks for listening
