Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Ellen's podcast. This is Cody Cast. Hi,
Hi Cody. Here we are Hotels show. Yeah, it's old friends.
It's been a little while, but it's so good to
be on this tour with you. Your first ever arena tour.
Do you feel nervous at all or the jitters gone?
You know, it's our fifth show, so I think we're
starting to kind of settle into it. But yeah, the

(00:21):
first few shows, I mean, the last time we we headlined,
it's been over a year and we did theater, so
kind of making the big jump was nerve racking. But
it's been super rewarding and people show up, which is
always good. Um, and yeah, it's it's been awesome. So
I've seen the wardrobe and let me just warn everybody
there's a lot of glitters. Yeah, because like what would
Shania do, what would Dolly do? They wear glitter? When

(00:46):
you dreamed of having your own show as a kid,
and I know you thought about like what that would
look like. Is this this tour part of that dream
come true? Yeah? I mean this is the most involved
in a tour I've ever been to. From I made
mood boards for every single song. What I wanted the
content to look like and what colors I wanted the
to pop win on what lyric? Yeah, I was crazy
about it because it really doesn't matter to me, Like

(01:06):
I was saying earlier to you, um off off of
the radio. I just it Really it's this opportunity to
create a world in a mood for people to walk
into minutes and and feel something with you. And um,
the lights can help that, the content can help that,
all of it. So, UM, I was really involved with
this one. Congratulations on your induction into the Grand Ol
operations what yeah, Yeah, it was. It was. Um, It's

(01:34):
the kind of moment it's really hard to even be
present in because it's so out of body. Um. And
especially having one of my biggest influences there to induct
me was even crazier. And singing with Carrie was amazing
and Keith was there, Um, all my family, friends, team, everything,
and just to be able to stand in that circle
not only as a guest but as as a member.

(01:54):
I walked off the stage of my bands like, Kelse,
you know what this means. I was like what, They're like,
you have a gig in forty years And I was like, yeah,
you're so right. I have a gig in forty years. Um,
it's it's comforting, it really is. Tell me about your
relationship with Carrie because she obviously loves you and adores
you and give such a great speech about you. Really nice. Yeah,

(02:15):
it's crazy. I really don't know Carrie that well. That
was the most time we've spent together, but um, yeah,
she was just she was so warm and I really
do look up to her, like as a current woman
on the radio, probably the most. Um. I just think
that she not only musically is just so stand out,
but um just has so much grace and poise and

(02:35):
warmth about her. And she's rehearsing for a world tour
right now. On the fact that she took time to
you know, induct me and do that for me made
it mattered. Morgan. You're about to hit the road and
go on a vacation, well deserved. You've seen him right, Yeah,
it's been crazy. He's he's here to at the Knoxville show,
which is awesome. He just flew in. Um. But yeah,

(02:56):
we we try to kind of carve out a couple
of times a year to just reconnect. And it's his
birthday this weekend, so we're gonna go away to Mexico
and drink some margarita is on the beach and he'll
surf and I'll get a tan on. Hopefully After a
few days without your significant other, it's like, who are
you again? Right? We're both like in completely different areas

(03:18):
of the country all the time, but we're having fun.
Missed me more? Let's talk about things maybe you miss
a little bit more. Um, is there a TV show
you missed that was canceled? Well? Friends, but thank god
they still have all the reruns. And Netflix hasn't covered
on that one fashion trend you wish we could bring back.
You know, I'm not really sure about trends. I just
kind of wear stuff and it other works or it doesn't.

(03:41):
But a toy you owned as a kid, what was
your favorite toy? Barbie? Of course I could have answered
that for you favorite childhood memory. Um, looking back that
we're in my hometown and you're asking this question, that's
how I planned it. Um, honestly, we I just had
a really simple, wonder full upbringing. I I lived out

(04:01):
in Mascot, Tennessee, which is probably forty minutes from where
we are right now, and we actually live next door
to my cousins. So I got to grow up just
kind of jumping from like our backyard to their pool
and just running out and you know, in the South,
and it was a very Southern, wonderful upbringing. Do you
feel like you'd like to go back just oh, man,
if I could have like one minute, I do. Yeah.

(04:22):
I think. I think as you get older and you know,
you moved to a bigger city and stuff, you realize
that life gets more complicated, um, which is not always
a bad thing. But yeah, I think the simplicity of
my upbringing, uh, is something that I would go back to.
We'll look for you on the Voice of Course. You
were on Team Kelly and what are you doing on
that show? Yeah? So it's an incredible show. It airs
really soon. UM. But Shane mcinally and Ryan Tuter and

(04:45):
Estradine are the songwriting coaches on it, and they bring
in an artist songwriter for every episode. UM. New songwriters
come in pitch me or whoever else is on the
show their song we worked together, and then I end
up cutting one. UM. And it's a really cool show.
It is it is and UM and they have an
incredible lineup of artists that are that are a part

(05:06):
of it, and it's the producers of the Voice NBC,
and I think it's going to help people have a
new appreciation for songwriters, which is a big deal right now.
So I can't wait to see it. Thank you can't
wait see the show tonight me too. Thanks. Thanks for
listening to Cody Ellen's podcast, This is Cody Cast.
