(01:06):

on in Lorien and Charlie here Crook and Chase Nashville
chats and no to us, it is not the lazy,
hazy days of summer for the country stars. It's more
like the crazy days of summer. Charlie. These stars are
so lucky in many ways because they're put in positions

(01:28):
where they can experience things that the rest of us
don't really get to experience. True. And you know, when
you have been I guess sort of sequestered with the pandemic,
you're ready to get out and do some weird things.
But we discovered, uh that during the pandemic, some weird
things occurred. Our buddy Gary Allan's prime example of that, right,
He's one of our most adventurous stars. And yeah, he

(01:50):
went on a vaca halfway around the world first part
of last year. You want to have some sort of
safari vacation in Africa, and I'm curious what all was
included when you go on a far vacation. Is it
kind of like bar hopping with critters or what it's
bar It's it's tent hopping um and hotel with the
way we did it. We did fifteen days. We flew
six times and some of the places were like camps

(02:13):
like really it was. It was really well done the
way we did it. So it was you know, like
like candlelit camps um with um you know, some kind
of fencing around it to keep the lions out. Um.
But some of them were like four seasons you know
when Kenya. Uh, just it was it was like lamping. Um.
They had set up really elaborate lunches and dinners and uh.

(02:33):
And the cool thing about the pandemic was everybody that
was supposed to be in our group canceled, so it
was me, my girlfriend and a guide for fifteen days,
and which made it just awesome in private. Really yeah,
really worked out for us. Were you ever in fear
for your life? Um? No, we got close to an elephant.
I thought we were too close to turn around and
boat up on us once but uh never once um

(02:55):
and crazy to like a lion walked probably two ft
um by me. But they just don't even look at
you because there's always people looking at them, um, and
they're just worried about their next meal and doing their thing.
And I can remember in our little jeep. That guy
put us in the way of this line that was
just walking and he had to walk around our jeep,

(03:15):
and I just remember thinking, this is really dumb, kind
of just walked right by. What do you smell like? Right? Exactly?
Hopefully not good? Obviously smelled like rotten meat. I'm good
with it, saying I've been staying in tense, you know.

(03:36):
That's that's why I said, what do you smell like?
But that's such a guy thing. I stink, and I'm
okay with that. But I'll tell you, you know, I
remember our family vacation talking about do some crazy things.
We took the kids to Orlando, Florida one time, but
we were at Epcot eating one of the restaurants. On
the menu they had alligator and rattlesnake, oh dear, And

(03:59):
so the kids saw it way you know, of course
they're young, and they're well, let's try. So we did.
We tried alligator, and I have had when I was
judging many years ago, I judged a Texas chili cook
off and the winner was rattlesnake chili. But you know,
there's so many spices you can't really tell. I was

(04:22):
talking about. It was terrible. I hated that, but imagine
I can't imagine this. Here's Kelsey Batllerinia one of her
recent dinners. My view of tourism is eating. I just
I like to find like the hotspots or like the
food that they're known for, and just eat. Did you
eat kidney pie when you were there? No? But I
did eat brain when I was in Tuscany. I did.

(04:44):
I did. Well. Do you know who Krista Stephano is.
He's a songwriter and his life. Me and Morgan with them,
and we dared each other to eat brain because that's
what they're known for. And I tried it and the
taste wasn't bad. The texture really threw me off. How
was it prepared? Fried? So? Did it look like brains?
And when you cut into it it did? Well? Who
was it? I don't I don't know. I don't know

(05:07):
her old boyfriend's brain. I mean, I've never excuse me,
I've never heard of this eating brains. Yeah, restaurant, that's
what they served there. How much our brains? I don't remember.
It was in it was in whatever they use over there.
It's not like a brain there. If I'm factor today, guys,

(05:33):
did you just tasted. I just tasted. Did you eat it? No,
I tasted it. Stefano ate it like chicken, tastes like chicken. Okay,
So she would not eat kidney pie in the UK,
but in Tuscany, in Italy she ate brains. Yeah. Well yeah,
her order was a no brainer. Wait, it was a brainer.

(05:53):
Never mind, it's a little disgusting. Oh I don't know
about that, okay, so a little close her at home.
I would say that Jason al Dean has had one
of the most um what would you call it, charlie
as are alarming, disturbing experiences when he was hanging out

(06:13):
with Luke Brian. Luke Brian was hanging out too. Apparently,
one thing we have learned about you, we can't trust
you with a secret because the other day you made
it known online about a tattoo that Luke Brian has
that only a select few will ever see. It's his
wife's initials on his butt. So are there any other
beans you'd like to spill right now? No, that was,

(06:34):
that was pretty good, And that was But that was
his fault too though, because I went in I was
writing a song with him that day. We were on tour,
and so I go into write with him and he's
laying on the couch like just scratching his butt and
like patting itself, and I'm like, man, what is wrong
with you? What are you doing? And he was like, oh,
I just got a tattoo, and I was like, on
your and he's like yeah, And so then he just

(06:56):
pulled it down and showed it to me, and I'm like, well,
I don't know what to say. I mean, what do
you say? I don't really know where to I don't
really know where our friendship going from here. So Alding,
I promise you this. I'm sending Charlie to you. Now.
You can take a look at his button and then
you will have a new story to tell. I mean,

(07:18):
as much as I love you, Charlie, I'm good. I
don't I don't worry. You're seeing pimples before. So that
that's the disturbing thing about some of these conversations we
have with the stars. You find out who they really are,
you know. For me, the disturbing thing is is that
you just take it to the worst level possible and
they go right there with me and you're over there laughing.

(07:39):
So I do love my bad boys all right, let's
talk about a new bad boy in country music. Actually
he is really one of the nicest guys, so sweet,
very articulate. Jackson Michelson has a song that we play
on our show all the time called tip Jar and Charlie,
I thought you asked him. One of the most important

(07:59):
question gens that an upcoming artist can can worry about,
and that is what do they see in their tip
jar every night? And boy does Jackson have a story
about his best tip jar night ever and it has
nothing to do with a jar. I have one that's
pretty incredible. I was playing in Reno, Nevada, and I

(08:23):
just had a brand new bass player joined my bass player, Kelly,
who's played with me for six years. It was his
first show and we're playing. It's a sold out show
in Reno and this guy comes. It's my last song.
The crowds packed shoulder to shoulder, and he's pushing his
way from all the way from the back of the
room to the very front like people are getting like
frustrated because this is my last song. They're into it.

(08:46):
People are, you know, dancing, singing along. And he comes
up to the front of the stage and he holds
up his hands and he has stacks of money. I'm
talking thousands of dollars in one dollar bills in his hands.
Like he this guy had big hands and he had
stacks of money. And he points at me and he says,
you're awesome, and he he he chucks the bricks of

(09:10):
of money up in the air and it starts raining
down all over the stage. There was no tip jar.
It was a tip stage and the bass players looks.
I look over him and his eyes are biggest softballs,
and he's like, okay, do we clean up the money.
Fans start jumping on stage trying to grab the money.
Security is taking people out. It was the most crazy moment.

(09:33):
And all he said was you're awesome, and then he left.
And then then so we finished the song and I
walk off. You know, the band's playing the walk off song.
So I run off the stage and the band finishes,
and then they come to me and they're like, what
do we do with the money? I'm like, well, you
better pick it up quick. Well, hey, And you know
another part of the conversation that what I thought was

(09:54):
kind of neat is how much should your tip? Well,
it depends exactly. Some songs are more difficult than others.
I think he mentioned the Devil went down to Georgia,
which a fiddle player. You know, there's a lot of
action going on. There's a hundred songs, a hundred song
I've never well, I think I put maybe five or
ten bucks on tip jar one time for a piano player. Yeah,

(10:14):
I've done twenty dollars I've put But the thing is
is that I never requested anything. I just love the music,
and so I put a twenty in there. Keep that
in mind if you're you know, see performers on stages
like that, because that's what they're counting on. Now back
to the wild Charlie. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't do this
half of the stuff we've talked about here on this podcast.

(10:36):
Now wouldn't. No, I'm not gonna do that stuff. But
now here's another daredevil. Really, let me explain this just
a little bit. Jordan Davis graduated with a degree in
environmental science. That's where the trouble begin. That's where the
trouble begins, because he's decided, even though he is a
country music star, he is going to use that degree,

(10:57):
and boy did he do that recently. You are a
man who is known to love the environment. You take risks,
you're trying new adventures. You went along on a research
expedition to tag a seventeen foot great white shark. Now
this is the kind of thing you tell your wife
after you do it. So when did you tell Kristen
and what was your role in the shark hunt? So

(11:18):
I told Kristen right after. I was pretty stoked up, like,
I called her right with. I was like, man, we
just tagged a thirty five pound shark like Centers pictures.
I mean, she was excited, like you know, she knew
I was going up there and that was kind of
the goal. But for me, I was able to pull
a blood sample. I was able to get a measurement
from head to tail. Excuse me? The blood? Was it yours?

(11:40):
The sharks? Now? Luckily it was the shark. Luckily it
was it was the shark. Just checking. I was able
to pull a muscle sample from right underneath the dorsal
fin and um and was able to assist and they
did a sonogram to see if she was pregnant. This
is major work you were doing where you prepare for it. Know,

(12:01):
you studied this on online in college. I was my
buddy Chris Fisher who runs O Search. Uh, he does
a great job, sent you know, sent over everything what
we were going to be doing. And I was fortunate
in that, you know, one of the one of the
scientists had to back out at the last minute, and uh,
you know, luckily, I guess on paper I am an
environmental scientist. Is so congratulations And how do you pronounce

(12:25):
the name of this organization? Is that O Search search
C E A R C H and there on Instagram
and yeah, the sharks named Nagumi. They have a lot
of posts of it. One of the biggest, one of
the biggest white sharks that's ever been tagged in the
Atlantic Ocean. So it's pretty pretty special. Jordan Davis, imagine
being able to have that kind of an adventure, that

(12:48):
kind of opportunity, but also doing it in the name
of science, contributing to the world. Well, he loves what
he's doing and he loves country music. But stay away
with the sharks. I wouldn't do that at all. Out
of fact, I wouldn't do any of this stuff we
talked about. I jumped in and I've been swimming with
the sting rays before. That was fun. You jumped out

(13:08):
of a good airplane with what the golden the Golden Knights. Yes,
I flew a fighter jet with the Blue Angels. That
was the vomit coming. I was sick the whole time.
But but what what fun? Well and I have I've
been in the pool with porpoises, not ecot and sunderbirds,
the Air Force sunderbirds. That's kind of cool. But my

(13:29):
wife Karen has always I don't do that. Yeah, there's
no reason for you to do that. So I think
about it, but I don't do it. I'll lead other people.
Richard Branson, go ahead, I'll watch the videos. Okay, Charlie,
if you had the opportunity, you would blast off with bezos.
I know you would. You still have time, Okay, Well, folks,
