You are pop dot com beauty for everyone. Hi again, everybody,
Welcome to Crook and Chase Nashville. Chats Charlie and Laurien. Here.
I got to tell you from our music oral studio,
we have the chance to meet up as all these
big stars. I say big stars. These are people we've
known before they were big stars. And today we're gonna
we're gonna conjure up some memories with one of our
(01:31):
longtime favorites Martina McBride, and we're gonna get the latest
from Scottie McCreary here in just a bit. But first,
Martina McBride. We have known her from the beginning of
her career. How often do we say that Charlie almost
always faced up. She is approaching thirty years and she's
celebrating in all kinds of different ways. One way is
with a big exhibit at the Country Music Hall of
(01:52):
Fame and Museum. The power of her voice has all
kinds of memorabilia that really, I guess MESMERI is to Charlie.
By the way, for those of you just joined us,
we're now talking with the hard Driving Powerhouse vocalists lead
vocalists of the Penetrators, Martina Martina McBride. I gotta tell you, dear,
I have learned things about you because of this new
(02:13):
exhibit down at the Hall of Fame, but I didn't know.
You know, one of them goes back to your hard
driving rock and roll days, so we know about that, Charlie.
I know I didn't know a lot about this. So
Pat Menatar songs, you were doing things like that, right,
Oh yeah, Pat Benatar and Journey and Heart and you know,
all the rock and eighties rock and roll. You know,
did you live the rock and roller lifestyle? Oh? I
(02:36):
don't know. You know, I traveled around the country in
a van with a bunch of guys and there was
a hole in the floor of the van and we
had no money, and you know, so I guess to
that extent, yes, that's paying your dues, It really is,
you know. And and of course the wardrobe is important too,
and that's one of the things that's on display. Was
like a T shirt, right, yeah? I think so I
(02:56):
actually probably should have dug up a picture of that,
because I was definitely had the eighties hair, lots of
moose and hair spray and um, like the leopard print
um leggings and boots and you know, the belt, the
little Madonna glove, all of it from you know, hearing
(03:16):
you talk before I know. Another thing on your bucket
list has always been an exhibit at the Country Music
Hall of Fame and Museum. You know, when you when
you put this together and you stand there looking at it,
is there a particular item that just makes you smile? Yeah?
You know, I mean it's interesting a lot of you know,
I like the stuff from my childhood. My mom kept
(03:38):
a lot of things and it's so weird. I had
like that rocking horse, you know, I had in my
house for so long. I don't know. I always find
that stuff interesting. I remember I went to see an
exhibit of Patsy Klein and it was her hair brush
was there, and I thought, oh my gosh, it's so personal,
Like it meant more to me seeing that than it
did an award or something. So I wanted to try
to get as much personal stuff in there as I can.
There's some little dresses that my grandma they're made for
(04:00):
me when I was a kid, and an outfit that
I performed in when I was like seven years old,
which I'm lucky enough to have a picture of as well.
So yeah, I wanted to get that stuff in there.
That has to be a tough call trying to figure
out what to put into an exhibit, you know, to
let them know what you're thinking and what's been going on.
And I like her focus though. I like her focus
that she wanted it to be personal. Yeah, girls like that.
(04:20):
And you know, when you're first starting out in the business,
you're hoping for the best. You don't know what's going
to happen, but you gotta have some dreams and something
to shoot for. Right, Oh, Martina has the big dream.
Let's retro to. Did you ever stop and think or
or dream about what thirty years in the future might
be hold for you and if you did, what has
(04:42):
come true and maybe what's still out there? Yeah? No,
I never thought in those terms, you know, And when
you're just starting out, you're just trying to make it.
You're trying to make it and make it work and
do all the work. And I do remember specifically having
sort of two goals that I wanted to get out
of this career, and that was longevity and and respect.
Those were two things that are really important to me.
(05:03):
And I feel like, you know, I've accomplished those two things,
which is pretty great to be able to say, Martina,
millions of fans carry your music in their hearts. Is
there a song, a particular song that is strongly just
a part of you, one of your songs and you
know it always will be? Yeah, you know, of course,
(05:27):
a lot of songs, um, everything from Broken Wing and
I can remember when I first heard that demo tape
and and um Independence Day. Of course, some of my
most I guess personal songs are the songs that I
feel very protective and loving toward our album cuts. You know.
So there's a song called, for instance, I remember recording
(05:48):
a song on Wild Angels called Born to Give My
Love to You, and I just had my first daughter, Delaney,
and that song really moved me, you know, as a
new mother. And um, you know, there's a song called
from the Ashes on Emotion that I just have always
loved and have performed live over the years on and off.
That's about really, you know, struggling with overcoming is something
(06:11):
in your life and having to kind of do it
by yourself and get through it, you know, and I
don't know, just like I feel like sometimes the album
cuts are I wish I could put together my favorite
album cut vinyl. Maybe I'll do that next. See that.
That's pretty cool to have a lot of songs that
and see that's important I think for fans to know
that while those big hits are meaningful to them, there
are other songs that she has recorded that are more
(06:33):
personal to her. I would buy that album in a heartbeat. Yeah,
you would, just because we know Martina. And of course
for those of you who are big fans of Martina,
you've seen her perform and to know that she's got
something special working with these songs. I mean, the story
behind the song, I think is what I'm trying to say,
is just as relevant and important. It's fantastic. Okay, time
to go behind the scenes with Scottie McCreary has a
(06:53):
big hit song called you Time. Well, these days, his
U Time consists of not only his wife Gabby, but
another little member of the family. Let me tell you something, Glauria,
and something I've observed during the pandemic, A lot of
people acquired pets to have as friends because they were
stuck at home, right, and they were lonely exactly. I
(07:15):
don't know. Was that the case with Scotty you're thinking
could be? Maybe tell us about Mr Moose? What kind
of dog is Mr Moose and what do you think
his his most endearing trait of his personality. Yeah, it's
so funny calling Mr Moose because we started calling him
that over the over quarantine. Mr moy says he's walking
around the house. Um. But yeah, he's a yellow Lab
and he is just a happy, go lucky loves people
(07:39):
who never have to worry about him running away because
he'll run out the door and then if he's gone
for thirty seconds away from people, he just wants to
come right back and got it and play. Um. And
he loves the swim. I mean I've never I mean
he I think he was a fish in his former life.
But we have a pool and he'll he will swim.
We've seen him for two hours straight at one time.
He'll get out and shake, look and then just jump
(08:00):
back in and swim. No nothing, you just just love it.
So new name Mr moosefish Right, you're talking about Mr
Moose likes to jump in the pool. Didn't you do
a polar plunge with him back in the winter? I did, Yeah,
I did. We did that for a for a benefit
foundation thing, and um, I don't know what I was expecting, Like,
(08:21):
you didn't see ice in the pool, so I just
figured it can't be that cold. I mean it was
in the middle of the dead o winter and you
made Mr Moose jump in there with you. Oh he
loved it. I mean, don't let him fool you. He
was having the ball. Mr Moose did the ice plunge? Well,
I did, and it was like, uh, I think thirty degrees.
I thought about doing that. No, seriously, I think my
(08:45):
heart would stop. I think I would die instantly. I
will not attempt it. Well, I'll tell you what. I
hope you've enjoyed these letts quick visits here from Martina
and Scottie. See Martina McBride thirty years in the biz.
Big exhibit at the Country Music called Fame. It's gonna
be down there for a long time, I think right.
And her album The r C A Year's Greatest Hits
is out. Lots of great things going on for Miss
(09:06):
Martin Man I'll tell you it was really cool when
she first had the exhibit down there. Uh, Garth Brooks.
You know she used to sell T shirts for Garth
of course, Yes, she was the merch girl. That's what
kept Garth and business. Hey U, she was the merch girl,
so he was on hand. It was a very special
thing for her. And I think once you see the items,
you'll understand the meaning behind most of them. And Scotty McCreary,
(09:26):
if you think back, he was the winner of season
ten of American Idol and look at all that's happened
for him. And this new album is really, really good.
I hope you checked. I am a big fan of
his albums. They are just pieces of art, pieces of
art work, if you ask me. Well, folks, we have
