Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, here we are our last break of
the day on this Monday. Absolutely. Yeah, it's been a
good day. It's been a good day. Started a new week. Yeah,
from vacation. A lot of things going on, of course.
And Steve, what you got for us, I don't know,

(00:21):
you know, I was pondering on a couple of things
because I was on break and I've been doing my
meditation most mornings. I've missed a few because you know,
had company over and everything, you know, but I've been
I've been paying attention closely about my spiritual relationship. And

(00:43):
you know, I've never really been one to tell a
person which faith to choose. That's that's not my business.
I don't, you know, it's not my job. Whatever your
faith is, it's fine with me, you know. Jehovah witness,
you seven day of Nags you Catholic, you know, whatever
you know? Muslim? All of it is about faith. You know,

(01:06):
the which day you go down there and worship Jewish?
Would you observed Friday, Saturday, Sunday? Whatever? You know, it's
the observance that matters to most. To me, I was
talking to a young person about faith and they were
explaining to me, how, mister Harvey, I've heard you talk
about faith, but I was thinking there's more work related.

(01:32):
I said, well, it's definitely work related, young man, because
faith without works is dead. But work without faith, I
don't know how that works either. See, faith without works
is dead. So once you do that, you can flip

(01:55):
that easily and assume that the one without the other
is no good. That's what it actually means to me.
Faith without works is dead. You need them both one.
If any part of that equation is missing, it won't
be successful. A times be equals. See now, if you
don't want to throw the being that you ain't gonna
get to see, you know, it's it's just the equation.

(02:18):
But the young man went on to tell me. He said, well,
I think it's more work than it is faith. I said, well, son,
I don't understand why you're saying that, because you can
work really, really hard. But let's just say you start
to lose faith. What is the motivation to work harder

(02:43):
if you've lost the faith? Because faith is the belief
in things that you cannot see, and if you do
not maintain your faith, that is strictly the belief in
things that you cannot see what are you working for?
And back and forth with this young man was really
interesting because he was trying to make one more significant

(03:06):
than the other. And the message that I'm trying to
get through the day to him and to anybody listening,
you need them both. You're not going to make it
without either one of them. Don't you understand that faith
is such a key component in your spirituality. Faith is
such a key component in your life. It's a very,

(03:26):
very daunting thing to do is to complete this thing
called life successfully. And success has to be determined by you. Look,
success is not money or fame. Let's stop thinking that.
I don't want you to think that. I'm preaching that
to you, success is living in your God given gift
to your fullness. If your gift is teaching, you should

(03:50):
be the best teacher that you can be. If nursing
helping people is your gift, then you should be the
best nurse and help or people the best care giver.
If watching people's children daycare, if that's your gift, you
should have the best possible daycare you could possibly have.
I don't care what it is you're doing. That's what

(04:11):
success is. It's not fame, of money. I know a
lot of people who are extremely wealthy and very unhappy people,
very very unhappy. I know some people who make average
incomes man and just as happy as they can be. Man.
And you might not think that because you got more money,
and you think, Man, I want this, this, this, and this.
You're not them. You're not them. I had one of

(04:37):
the best times of my adult male existence as a
black man when I had thirteen of my fraternity brothers
come and visit me over the break and to sit
down with these men that I formed a friendship with

(04:57):
forty seven years ago. Forty seven years ago we became friends,
and to still have that friendship and one of my
friends was here that I've been friends with sixty years,
and to sit with them who knew me long before

(05:19):
I had become any of this, and to exchange the
stories and then remind me of things that they have.
They all had a special moment that they remembered with me,
and some of them I remember that some of them
they refreshed my memory for man. To sit with them,
I had the best time, and they were some of
the best men I've ever known. Man. They just great dudes.

(05:40):
Two of them have become pastors. You know, they're in
the insurance business, they in the trucking business. They in finance,
their own digital companies. Man, these guys man really really
solid guys, and they become very successful within their gift.
Now who's the most famous me? But what they were.

(06:02):
They taught me a lot about friendship. They taught me
a lot about love. They taught me a lot about family.
And I listened to their stories. Man, I was so
happy for them. But listen to me, every last one
of them. The common thread between all of us was
the measure of faith. We all consistently talked about faith

(06:22):
and how important faith was in our journey to become
who we all were today. Faith without works is dead.
Works without faith is dead. They go hand in hand,
one without the others. He nothing, y'all have a great thing.
We'll see y'all tomorrow. Talk to God, he'd loved to
