Speaker 2 (00:03):
Melanie Lynskey plays the adult version of Shauna on Yellowjackets,
a character that harbors some pretty dark secrets from her
teenage years to say the least, and even in present day,
Shauna makes a lot of decisions that aren't violent and
even just plain mean, leading to criticism. But Melanie tells
Variety she thinks it's because a double standard is out
there that fans and critics have for female characters. She says,

(00:23):
I know Shauna is kind of a tyrant, but the
loss that she suffered is really intense. People are just
quick to judge. The way people talk about women and
men has been very interesting because people delight in men
as villains, but especially when a woman is a mother,
there's this other set of expectations.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
People complain she's not even a very good mother. Well
guess what. Some people aren't.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
People need things to be black or white. It's been
interesting to see. That's Melanie Lynsky on the devil's standard
held of her villainous female characters. Season three of Yellow
Jackets is on Showtime on Paramount Plus.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
That's direct from Hollywood.
