The Wizard of Oz was long considered challenging ip to
reimagine successfully in the cinema until director John m. Hue
blue audiences and critics away with Wicked, which is likely
one of the reasons Mattel just tapped John to helm
another tough adaptation, Hot Wheels. The filmmakers signed to turn
the popular automotive kids toy into a live action feature film,
which has been in development since twenty nineteen, but it's

stalled because of the complexity of turning essentially a series
of toy cars into something more dynamic, but Mattel and
Warner think John is the man for the job. They've
also hired writers Jewel Taylor and Tony Rettenmeyer, who previously
provided the scripts for Creed two and Space Jam, a
new legacy now. Given the billion dollar success of Barbie
and the broad popularity of the toy, Mattel is hopeful
Hot Wheels can follow suit.
