Anybody who loved the sitcom Big Bang Theory knows how
important Kaylee Quoco's character Penny was to the show's recipe,
but its series creator Chuck Laurie now admits that he
and the other writer struggled in the early days of
making the show to understand what her role was. On
the debut episode of the Official Big Bang Theory podcast,
he explained that the first few episodes portrayed her as
a goofy blonde who says foolish things. Chuck says, it's
such a cliched character, the dumb blonde, and we missed it.

We didn't understand her right away. And what she brought
to this series was an intelligence the kind that other
characters didn't have a kind of intelligence it was alien
to them, and intelligence about people and relationships and family.
She brought a humanity and that took a while to
figure out. In the beginning. She was sadly one dimensional.
But the gift of a TV series it works is
