Speaker 1 (00:00):
Strig from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest. You might not be
familiar with the term spec script if you aren't obsessed
with movies, but it's a simple concept. It's an original screenplay,
a fresh new idea whipped up by a writer independently.
Then it's sold to a studio and occasionally turned into
a movie. It's how some of the most popular films
of all time got started. Rocky, Thelma Luiz, Lethal Weapon,

(00:20):
one movie called Star Wars all did this. And while
you might not be familiar with the term, any movie
guard will notice spec script films are not nearly as
common as they used to be. Theaters are now dominated
by remakes, reboots, and sequels, but that might finally be changing.
The dailies reports it. In August alone, eight spec scripts
have sold. That's the highest total since March of twenty seventeen,
and that might not be a fluke. Weapons and Sinners

(00:43):
are both originally ideas that blew up at the box office,
while some other movies with way bigger budgets from a
familiar universe tanked are studios genuinely leaning into original ideas. Again,
it's too early to tell, but it could be welcome
news For movie lovers who cherish a new experience, we'll
