text us, text jj R and your message. In nine six,
eight ninety three, there was this survey about The Exorcist
being the scariest movie of all time.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
I think, I think so. I don't think anything comes
close because that's that stuff's.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Real, because it's the true story, right, yes, And how
is your cousin involved with this?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Well, we've talked about my cousin, Tim, one of my
all time favorite people on the planet Earth. He is
a Catholic priest and also a tremendous singer. He could
have been on Broadway, but he chose to serve the Lord.
And what Tim was telling me a long time ago.
But that story of the Exorcist is actually based on
a real exorcism that happened in Saint Louis, where I'm from,

(01:17):
at a hospital right down the street from where Tim
was stationed at a church. So I asked him to
come on and kind of tell us a little bit
about the the craziness of that thing that was actually
actually real. I mean, demons are real, y'all. Good morning,
They're not just made up.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Good morning, father, Tim, Good morning. So you're a priest
everybody today?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You're a real priest, are you?

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Let's see give me the ted command. That's real. Fast go.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I was told we were going to talk about something else.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Okay, yeah, how many years? How many years have you
been a priest?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Like?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Is this forty? Am? I right?

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Forty two? Forty two?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, he's one of the nicest guys on the entire planet.
I could tell. So, Tim, did the extors just take
place there? What can you tell us?

Speaker 4 (02:12):
The movie? The book, which was written first, was based
on an exorcism back in the forties. It was not.
I wasn't even born then, so, but it happened at
election Brothers Hospital down in South Saint Louis and I
actually did not talk to the priest that did it,
but his brother was a doctor and he would check

(02:33):
on these two priests and others who were praying the
exorcism prayers. So he said there were a lot of
things that were correct, but the rest of the book
was very sensational. There is nothing about vomit, our heads
turning around. They said that in the room where this
young boy was whose name will never be given, it

(02:54):
was very cold, like kind of the movie showed. And
also there or signs I guess they would say of
the devil, of the evil one of talking from this
young man's you know, person from his mouth. So those
are the kind of things. But I did have a

(03:14):
farishioner who would check these guys every day after praying
for hours, you know, to see if they were okay.
The big thing about exorcism is that sometimes there are
people who just have severe mental illness and claim they
are possessed. And that's something that we have to look
at because you know, that takes something else other than

(03:36):
the prayers of exorcist.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
That's just meds right. Well, I would think that if
you are possessed, you're not telling people you're possessed. If
you tell people you're possessed, that's where ment the illness
comes in. In my opinion, maybe that's first on the checklist.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, big part of it. Yeah, absolutely be like, oh.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
My god, I'm possessed. A need exorcism.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Now you don't, Well, so how do you how do
you decide when somebody comes in and let's say, probably
a family member says there's something wrong with Jimmy or whatever,
how do you decide if it is mental illness or
something more sinister and dark.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Well, usually we do try to check that out or
ask the family, you know, to go to some kind
of psychologist or something, you know, to see what this is.
What there have been or signs through the years that
the person possessed. And remember this is rare, this is not,
you know, happening all the time. But oftentimes the person

(04:30):
will speak in what they call a dead language, you know,
that does not continue to evolve through the years. So
how do they know that? The family would say, he's
never or she's never spoken that up before, but it's
an actual language you can under you can see as
in a language. And then there's also some other signs

(04:52):
such as the cold, or you know, the person going
into some kind of convulsion, but even that, you know,
so we do ask that there's some real good background
on this person before we would say okay, an exorcism
is required. Most dioceses have an exor sister too. I

(05:12):
am not I've not been asked to be won so good.
I don't know all of that.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
We need to keep you far away from that.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
So you're saying that, but you're you're saying it's not
very common, but like the devil is real?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, but so how do you avoid getting to that point?
I mean, are there certain things that people do that
open themselves up to being possessed?

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Those are good questions. One of the things that we
have believed that anyone baptized are legitimately in a faith
you know, will not have that possession, and particularly those
baptized in the name of Jesus. But some have and
we're not sure. I've talked to a couple priests and
the dioceses who have them, but they say it's not

(05:57):
quite as violent. And what they continue to look for
is something from family or friends saying no, he would
never say or he's never said anything like that. So
there's some kind of influence within. Those are the things
that we look for.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Father Tim. What about what's your take on the Ouiji board?

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Oh my god, I have we used to play that
all the time.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Oh my god, my god, do you guys know?

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Do you guys know? As I'm hearing this, So my
main babysitters were my cousin Tim and my cousin Sue
and my cousin Cindy, And I remember them having a
Ouiji board and Tim would scare the crap out of
me and my brother all the time pre priesthood.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
But you're not as a priest for forty two years,
you're not. Don't play with that. It can open spirits.
You just think it's funny. Milton Bradley, what have no
big deal? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:51):
I think it's harmless. I think that we used to,
you know, as we could be his light. Think you know,
we're just touching it. But they were always pushing it
one way or another themselves.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
What about connect four? That's the gate way to help?
Hey have you heard? I was just curious your take
on this is something? This is It doesn't really bother me,
but it's a tiny we haven't really talked about this,
but you know, the Passion of the Christ, the movie
that Mel Gibson made, phenomenal movie, right, would you agree
it's a great movie, did you? I liked that. I
thought it was phenomenal. I did think it's a there's

(07:24):
you know he's doing a sequel right now, right, And
I'm sure we all know how the sequel is going
to go. But I was just curious that he's casting
a different actor to play Jesus, which is throwing me off, like,
why wouldn't you hire the same guy? Have you thought
about that yet? Tim? Do you know about the story?

Speaker 4 (07:40):
No, don't know anything about a sequel?

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Like does Jesus come out looking different? I think day three?
Isn't that part of it that people didn't recognize them?
Is it?

Speaker 4 (07:47):
I don't remember a half that's ten right post resurrection?
Even Mary Magdalene didn't recognize him until Jesus said her name.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
And that makes sense to that makes sense, And that's
why you would have a different actor then, no idea.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Somebody who looked different, or maybe the guy didn't want
to do it again? Who was to Jesus?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I really haven't seen him.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
The much same contract thing with Jim Caviezel. Probably we'll
put in the backup.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Well, Tim, thanks for clearing up the air on the
exorcism stuff. Have you heard of an exorcism taking place
in the last I don't know how long, how many
years outside of the one in Saint Louis in the forties.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
No, I have not other than a couple of guys
here who do have been trained in the prayers. But
I don't know how many years ago it was. I
do think it's something that you know, people should be
aware of, but also cautious. Maybe that's my bottom line.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well, I would say too, if you need an exorcism,
you want to go to the guys in the Catholic
Church that are trained to pray for that. You don't
want to just you know, look look up somebody on
a Google ad you want to get the card carrying prayers.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Father Tim, thank you for jumping on the air with
us and clearing that up, and tell very well, have
a great day, sir, Sure enough you all have one. Yes, Hey,
have you met the new pope by the way, Tim,
not yet? Oh, never before back in the day and
be from Chicago.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
And he was in a religious community. He was not
a diocesan guy and down in Peru forever or wherever
he was in South America. So I know a lot
of Chicagoans are very happy about it.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, yeah for sure. Okay, well, thank you, Happy Halloween.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Happy Halloween.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
That's Rich's cousin, father Tim,
