Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Mariolapez back with the last episode of season
one of Listen to Mario and excited to sit down
with a very funny ladies. She loves hot topics, she
hosts her own podcast, used to be on Chelsea Lately,
and she's about to take her next comedy special. Please
welcome Heather McDonald joining me down studio our buddy comic,

(00:23):
Kather McDonald. Welcome back, Kather, Nice to see you. Good
to see you too. So you were at Disneyland recently? Yes, Wednesday? Yes?
So how crowded is it right now? And did you
have do you have a method to uh cut the lines? Okay,
this is because I'm gonna turn you onto something, Okay,
but I I don't even I'm gonna say off air though,

(00:43):
because I don't want people to take advantage of this
and the prices go up. But go give me your story, Okay.
I hadn't been to Zealand for years because my kids
got to an age the boys where they were into
six flags and six flags you can pay for more
to cut to the front of the line, which didn't
exist us when I was younger, and I used to say,
one day I'll be rich enough to cut to the

(01:04):
front of the line. They have legs, they have six
platinum okay, like you know, and I mean right to
the front, not a fast pass where you're still waiting.
Like like, so, anyway, did my show at Irvine improv
like last year, I'm doing it again in um next weekend.

(01:25):
But when I was there, this at my meeting. Great.
This guy goes I work for Disneyland, and I know
that you liked to go to parks, and I was like, holy,
so yeah, I've adopted him. He is now my wait,
hook you up. He hooked me up a little I
don't want to say his name. I don't know, because

(01:47):
you you you needed the front of the line deal,
you know, hooked me up with tickets and hooked me
up with like fast passes that you could use throughout
the day. That's great. So that was great. Here's the
other thing. Wednesday is the slowest day because it's in
the middle of the weeks. You're about to drop knowledge
and I was about to drop taking notes. Six flags

(02:10):
you can pay to go right in the front platinum.
When the week I checked the weather and it was
only going to be a high eighty five perfect. Um,
I found out that I've been parking in the wrong
place this whole time. Don't go where there's like the
Disney characters in covered, go like across the street and
take the bus and you get dropped off right at

(02:31):
the front. You don't have to do the tram thing. Also,
um we do a hopper Okay, we're not, you know,
because my kids like the bigger rides. Um it was great.
Oh and with my hook up, I got to watch
the got reserve seating for the electrical parade and the fireworks,
And in my life I've never seen the electrical parade
that good time, so it was it was a good time.

(02:54):
My kids are getting older and um, you know, so
I'm like, I don't know how much you know forever.
But we saw the Star Wars. We went to Star Wars, yes,
and it kind of freaked me out. I like, I
don't want the world to end and look like that
I want to go to space. Space really freaked me
out even when I go on the the like I
never want to be lost in space ever since the

(03:15):
Sandra Bullock movie where she was lost, and like, I
never I don't want to go to space, Like if
the world ends I'm like, I'm good, I want to go.
I love the bar with all the characters, really cool around.
It's really great. They only have the one ride open
right now, and then I think another one's about to
open soon. It's like there's really cool different restaurants and

(03:36):
different things. You literally walk around this whole new, brand
new that space cuisine. We did not eat there, but
it's a little different. It's like it's there's like Asian
food and he's done it all in one day. Oh,
we always do it all one day. We got there
eleven thirty, left around ten. Okay, so you're putting in
a full, full thing. We have a backpack, yes, okay, good,

(03:57):
We have tennis shoes small into one light sweatshirt which
you won't need to tell about eight thirty, but then
you might need it. I do some nuts. They never
check for nuts, the little bag of Yeah, but that
at a different package. Oh. Another thing. When you go
on Grizzly Peak, which is the round like water ride,
so you don't get soaked, take your backpack, put it

(04:20):
in front of your body, okay, so you don't get soaked. Also,
put your feet up. Nothing but total mom max. Well
we might be hearing a lot of them because you're
filming a new stand up special this weekend. The stand
of special is more juicy and funny than my But
I'm out to help the people. Yes, what are you

(04:42):
talking about? So? I mean, I've been married for nineteen years,
so it's a lot about you know, being honest about
my relationship. But also how I often am envious of
my divorced friends. You know, they have a freshly life,
they get a divorce diet. Like I'm into date. I'm
into exploring relationships today with younger people. How it's so

(05:02):
different than when I was dating. So it's very relatable
to everybody. Um, being a female comics, sometimes I found
that my fans, who were such great friend fans of mine,
would say, I'm excited to see how that I'm dragging
my husband. And I was like, well, now you're hurting
the problem, Like why are you saying you have to
drag your husband. I'm like, if your husband got tickets
to a male comedian, you'd get a blow out and

(05:22):
be all excited to go. Why do you Why are
you underestimating that your husband can enjoy a female comic.
So what's great is the husband's love it, the boyfriends
love it, gay, straight, whatever, It's very relatable and talk
about my kids and it's funny. And do you find
yourself having to uh censor yourself at times just because

(05:43):
people get so hypersensitive with certain subjects. Um, well, I
got my My act is not political at all because
I just feel like, you know what, I'm not running
for office. Why would I put a tweet out that
could like piss off half of the country. Um, So
I I don't touch that at all. But yeah, I
mean there's a couple of things where sometimes I'll go

(06:04):
or I have like a really young person that works
with me, and I'll be like, is there is this
is this word okay? Like slut? Like is are we
still okay with that? Like like you know, if I
say it in a self deprecating way about like myself
or what I was wearing, and then you know, and
then I put in the context and she'll be like, yeah,
I think that's fine. You know. But like one other thing,
she went through my whole stand up and she was like,

(06:24):
I just take out this line and she was like
just think And I was like, okay, good, Like I
don't understand because I just did a TV show and
they said we couldn't say fat. You cannot say but
I don't even think you could say I had a
big fat sandwich. I don't think. I don't know. See,
this is what's wrong with honestly, is why I got

(06:46):
out of comedy. It's it's so it kind of makes
me angry. I love stand up comedy and that's one
of the that's one of the great things about it
is you get the truth tellers and you get to
and you're supposed to relax and but if you're gonna
be piece But with my stand up special, no, because
the thing is I do over an hour. No, that
was just a TV show. And I was like, whatever

(07:07):
happened to get a gig? And that's SAG insurance? Okay,
I want to say that. But and it was a
fun show. And I was like, you know, I get it,
you know because I know even when we're in Disneyland,
they were like people were coming up to the people
working there and going, is this ride fat friendly? And
and I was like, oh, that's that's that's a new
thing to to say. How yes, And they said, yes,

(07:28):
our belts are over six ft long. Have some fun
who yeah, you know, that's life. That's what we're dealing
with me whatever. So I'm like, that's great, you know.
So for me, um, you know, my stuff is edgy,
you know. But what I like about a stand up special,
and I'm producing it myself, is that I do control it,

(07:49):
and I do believe when someone sees the entire hour,
or if I do cut it up in pieces, ill
you know, it'll stand alone. Where comics get in trouble
is when someone takes you know, fifteen or a minute
of an hour long act and then try to say
that there one particular way because of this one joke,
and had you seen the whole act, you would have
seen what their point of view was. You would have

(08:10):
seen that maybe that wasn't the case any the other thing,
if you're easily offended, I would say, don't go to
stand up comedy. There's other things for you, like just
chill out. And so so you know, I don't get
any of that. Like, the people that come to my
show love me. They're you're excited, they have a great
sense of humor. Well, let's talk about some topics that
you may cover. What do you think about did he

(08:32):
dating his son's ex girlfriend who happens to be Steve
Harvey's daughter. I think it's so juicy and super juicy.
But do you think, well, no, I think it's I mean,
I think it's weird, but I don't know. I mean,
first of all, it's his stepdaughter, not that that matters um,
but he raised her, and so I guess Steve Harvey

(08:53):
is okay with it. I would have thinked Steve that
I'm talking about. Then there's there's like four layers of
weird sh okay. One is that Steve Harvey in here
friends and it's a twenty two she's twenty two, he's
forty nine, seven year age difference. Then you have your
dating your dad's friend. That's weird. Then you're dating your

(09:14):
ex boyfriend's dad. That's weird. That's the main one. That's
the one that's the weirdest. That's the weirdest, because yeah,
and there's a lot of people you know, you happen
to know their father whatever, but the son's that's one. Okay,
what about this has happened over time, and I'm sure
there's there's people that have experienced this where the girl

(09:37):
grows up and her divorced dad starts dating her twenty
two year old friend. That happens a lot, and that
I think that's just as weird and disturbing. That was
just tripping me. Um. Which real housewife franchise are you
most into? I think New York is the most fun
because it always it just always brings it. I think
they're also ridiculous in their own sense in a good way,

(10:00):
like and I think they're really snarky, and I think
they have a long history with each other, which is
what I think works. Um. Since I'm not from l A,
I kind of I mean not from New York. I
like to look at the New York scenery. My second
favorite is probably Beverly Hills for the exact same reasons.
They're exciting their fun to watch. I like looking at
Lisa Wrenna's face. I like seeing l A spots, you know.

(10:23):
Denise Richards added, I love I love the Denise Richard's aspect.
She came on my podcast Juicy Scoop and she was
she really is, like really a breath of fresh air.
I find I like that they have professional actresses on
the show. For one, when you book them, they they
show up as they treated and they're like they treated
like a real job because they've been working since there'reh

(10:46):
twenty so UM like I like Kyle and and Lisa,
Wrenna and you know and um and Denise. So I
think if they're to add anyone, I would like them
to stick with that. And then Lisa ander Pump, No,
she's gone right, huh. I think she's gone off Beverly
Hills for sure. I don't think that's no. I think
when she didn't go to the reunion, technically, I guess

(11:08):
that means you really are out. Yeah. I think anything
could be could change, you know. Of course they want
people to watch the show. Um. I think she's good
just doing her vander Pump stuff, which is a big hit. Yeah,
her restaurant, and then she's got the you know, the
Vegas restaurant starting, which i'd like to see a show
about that. I think that would be a good reality show.
It would be a good show. Yeah. I know, she's cool.

(11:28):
I'm the wife watches it, of course, of course the
wife is. There's there's so many trust me, I get
a little confused who's who and who's where and what's
going on. Sometimes it's really funny because a lot of
like my listeners stuff and will like end up watching
with her husbands and then they'll like quote with their husband,
ask like the way they like midwalk in some of

(11:49):
the questions are amazing, like I'll watch it with my boys,
is the only thing, And like asked my wife they
did when they do those reunion specials, why does everyone
look like they're going to the prom? Like they're all glamed?
You right? They all I think it, like it wasn't
always like that, and then of it and then they're like, well, god,
I want to look as great as this person, you know,

(12:11):
And some of it is just too much, with the
hair and the makeup and the and they had to
sit there for like nine hours, and it's just oh yeah,
it's um yeah, I it all adds to the fun
of it, you know. But you're like, as you watch it,
you're like, you know, you wouldn't if someone said this
to me at my home, I would never talk to

(12:31):
them again, you know. But you know, when you're being
paid by Bravo, of course you got a makeup. Let's
get past it, let's move on, you know. Like I
had one person to be roote at my house. I
never spoke to her again. I was like, see you
he said. She said I was inappropriate with my kids,
and I'm like, ahh okay, and I flipped her off
and I was like goodbye. I'm never going to talk

(12:51):
to you again. But if we were on a show
together that was a twenty Countries, I'd be like, let's
meet for coffee. Uh what about Tyler C from The Bachelorette? Uh? Well,
first he he came in, he was like the runner up,
and then he kind of went out, It's God test, right,

(13:14):
so he came in second, and then he kind of
got together with Hannah By again and then started dating
Gigi hawdid. It's like some of these guys have really
the consolation prizes have been the other dude we were
just talking about Wells Adams. He was ended up with
Sarah Highland. This guy's with Gigi hawdied at the moment, right,
Wells never got that far though, Like he never was

(13:35):
like second runner up. He was never like on a
knee he was he was he yes, he was like
top ten, but he wasn't like top five maybe not
maybe not even curious. I don't know, um, but I
you know, hey, look Gigi, go for it. Who cares,

(13:57):
you know, I think he's he's hot. He had the
second title pants of the finalist, the one that she chose.
I mean it was Lulu Lemons with like a blazer.
It was that guy, now right, Nobody found out that
he had a girlfriend right before that. He basically because
he was like an aspiring country singer and so he

(14:19):
had a girlfriend that you know, had the receipts and
stuff that he was like, I love you. This is
gonna be good for us, like, let me go on
this show and help my music career. And then so
then when she found out about all of that, it
was after they're engaged, and then he was like, yeah,
well I didn't expect that, but that doesn't mean that
I don't love you. And then I was like, hasn't
this been the story for a lot? Wasn't she just

(14:41):
trying to hook up with the last bachelor she lost that? Hey, Hannah,
ge I think she wanted out. I think she was like,
now they know that they might be able to parlay
it into something, and there's no real true quest for love,
or is there. I think nobody goes in. I think
everybody goes in as a career choice. Either they're unemployed,

(15:02):
or they want to have the life of an Instagram
bachelor person, they want to be on Dancing with the Stars. Yes,
and then well, you know how like they just said,
like they did a study where one third of all
kids said they want to be a YouTube star. I
think if you asked one third of people between twenty
two and twenty seven, they would say, I want to
be an Instagram social influencer. And the quickest path to

(15:26):
that is getting on the Bachelor's instant fame. It's instant
if you have access to other people that have abs
and then you know and you're like, Okay, I've got
nothing else going on, let me go do this. You know,
it's like gone to the days where the people were

(15:46):
like leaving their like law practice to go do this show.
Like most of the people are unemployed or you know,
they are you know, a personal trainer or things that
they could do that they can leave. So they're not
like you can't have it, you can't have a serious
career and go take months off. Because I remember seeing
one of the I like watching the first episode because

(16:07):
theirs are so funny. One was a professional twin. I remember,
what the hell is that the job get shady, like
one was a professional swimmer, and I'm like, well he
was on the swim Human College. But it's not like
wasn't there a former child? Wasn't that one? Something like that?

(16:27):
What about this? What about this? What about talk about
your podcast Juicy Scoop. Yes, so I've been new news
to Scoop for over three years now. I'm close to
like four d episodes. I do it on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I I love it. I started it, you know, thinking Okay,
I'll just do this and see baby will help sell
some tickets, and and I've really, I really enjoyed. I

(16:48):
get to interview great people, and people love it and
I talk about whatever is juicy in the world. So
being a comedian it is funny. But then also if
something's really intriguing, then being that is my own show,
I can do that. So I love it. So um,
thank you for bringing it up. Check it up. All right,
I'm gonna put you on the spot again, having quick questions,

(17:10):
quick answers. All right, yes, song that's currently in your head?
Oh the Lizzo song? Yeah, yes, I love it. Yeah.
Last movie you saw in theaters? Oh, I think that
was the movie. May loved it scary and funny. Yes
show you're currently binge watching. Oh the Roger Ale's loudest

(17:34):
voice in the room. I have that dv AR. Is
it worth it? Good? Mar you will die? It's history,
It's juicy, It's he's amazing. I mean, I would go
to bed dreaming about it, which is not great because
he's a discussing human being character with you so good.
I have that love it. I'm telling everybody watching because

(17:55):
here's here's the this is. This is like old people.
Now Mary coupled the kind of conflicts we have now,
there's so much good content on TV. We we only
have so much time at night, right, so we got
to decide what we're gonna watch. Because I have my
individual shows. It together that we have a couple of shows.
So deciding our couple shows has become a thing now
because we vote for this, you vote for that time.

(18:19):
And then she watches her Housewives and all that, and
I watch My yellow Stone and all of this, and
then we got to watch I'm trying to route right now,
and then for the couple show to be the loudest voice.
So if you have some time this weekend, it's once
a week, you know, so you could binge it a
little and then you'll catch up. I've been ring it, yes,
but it's great because it takes you through history too.

(18:39):
Like it starts so like everything you see nine eleven
you see and they're building the Fox network and you know,
and whether you love if you watch Fox over the
time and you love it, but don't love it. It's
history and I think it's very fair. It's very fair,
and it's very It's just great and he's amazing, and
I'm gonna make it my solo show. She is down down, Yes,

(19:01):
and she'll be down. Was actually my husband Peter, who
was upset and he was like, you have to watch
this chapter. I go, all right, let me started to
watch it and started I know, I like, I knew
I would like that. I was like, oh my god,
because you know, you know what I'm fired up for
right now? I love um, what's the Rain Murphy mini series?
The American Crime Story? American Crime Stories? Love it, love
j love the Versa one which is the next one

(19:23):
Monica Lewinsky with Clinton right exactly. I'm fired up. It's
like it's like but Monica Lewinsky is actually producing that
great So like those on anything True Story I want
to watch. It was like, God, Monica Lewinsky was just
born at the wrong time, like she If we found
out that she was having an affair with Obomba, her

(19:44):
whole life would have been different. She would have been
selling clothes for Fashion Nova and like everyone loved her. Yeah,
would have been a probably would have been the next bachelorette. Yes,
what a different world. Yes to cocktail, Um, buttery chardonnay
is my favorite, just like a great chardonay. But I

(20:05):
also love spicy margarita is my new thing. Love a
spicy margarita, buttery chardonnay, just having like a dessert. Well,
it's like it's a it's got to be like a
Napa Valley kind of chardonnay. I don't really like like
Italians and but not Italian people, just I don't like
I like California wines. What I'm saying, Yes, nickname, growing

(20:26):
up Pumpkin as the youngest of five. All right, yeah,
what's you get rebooted next? Oh, cheeze, what you get
rebooted next? Besides Saved by the Bell? Hold on, let
me think for one minute. Um, what are you thinking,

(20:46):
I really don't know. I'd like to see Alf kill me,
and again, I kind of don't want them to ruin
that for me, you know what. I like somebody the
other day somebody mentioned murder she wrote the other day,
which could be interesting. Angela Lansbury is still around too. Yeah,
that's like years old, trying to solve crops. That'd be awesome,

(21:06):
it would be pretty I'm trying to think, like God,
I feel like everything's been done like one day at
a time, like what has been you know, threes? H
oh yeah three. Those shows are just so out of
touch now when you think about it, like would be fun, right,
And I was always like, wait a minute, he has
his own room. I hope he's paying more rent than

(21:27):
the two. That's like what I would think. That's right,
that's right, that's fantastic. Yeah,
