Speaker 3 (02:41):
Few more songs than going to fire up zoom so

Courtney Lopez here ranked number one in Australia, fourth in
the world, and he's got a new doctor.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
Tell us about when he joins.
Speaker 8 (02:51):
Us nextaw Mario Lopez joining me right now on Zoom,
Australia's top rank Competitive Eater number four ranked in the
entire world.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Mister James Webb, how are you, James.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Good? Thanks?
Speaker 9 (03:05):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (03:06):
I'm well? Nice to speak with you.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I always I'm always fascinated with competitive eaters and how
thin they are. Like, you're a thin individual, you know,
one would think you get into competitive eating, you'd be
a chubby guy or a big, big guy. But that
is not the case. How does a person get into
competitive eating? And when did you know you had the skill?
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Well, firstly, I appreciate that. Thank you.
Speaker 9 (03:33):
Tell us my wife she married a bodyboit her now
she's got this, so I appreciate. I guess Look, how
I started in competitive eating was a little bit of
a joke.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Actually. I went for lunch with my girlfriend who's now
my wife.
Speaker 9 (03:46):
Obviously, we went to a pub on the way to
a very famous wine tour, and my wife bribed me
with he like a food eating day out. Anyway, get
to this pub. They have a food challenge. And the
owner of the pub in this little country town, I
think he had a couple of beers with lunch and
he was a bit a little bit tipsy, and he
was like running his mouth a little bit about this
(04:08):
undefeated food challenge and it's.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
So big and this and that. I'm like, I'll try it,
like whatever, you know.
Speaker 9 (04:13):
Anyway, I hate his bigger In like twenty three minutes
and it was it was ten pounds, so it was
pretty big.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
But I never realized what competitive eating was until that day.
Speaker 9 (04:25):
And then like I started getting messages from people saying, hey, man,
like competitive eating.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You're like, you're so good at this. I'm like, what
the hell is this? Like what have I done? And yeah,
kind of changed my life, all right.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
James Well, Hank tight quick break.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
When going to come back with some more, James.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Webb, Mario Lopez will be right back.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Catch it up a competitive eater, James Web Mario Lopez here.
So when you're preparing for like a big competition, how
do you prepare? You starve yourself? Is that how it
works or what's the approach to it?
Speaker 6 (04:54):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
It's a bit about or.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Your stomach and now you're at a and now it's
a disadvantage.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, exactly. So it's a bit of a balancing act.
Speaker 9 (05:03):
We all kind of have our own technique in style,
but basically, like let's say, for example, let's say the
contest is a Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. You're stretching your stomach,
eating like a maniac, you know, trying to get your
stomach as stretched as you can.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Thursday will be a lot of fluid.
Speaker 9 (05:22):
Friday will be a lot of fluid, no eating, and
you kind of go from being full as humanly possible
to as empty as humanly possible.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
That's the best way to describe it. So then on contest.
Speaker 9 (05:35):
Day, you have as much real estate inside your body, yes.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
But as much like you know, capacity as possible.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Almar Lopez chatting with competitive eater James Web And you
just placed third in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog eating
Contest on the fourth of July. You eat forty five
and a half dogs in ten minutes.
Speaker 6 (05:56):
That is absolutely incredible.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
And I know Joey Chusnet ended up winning that, but
you've actually beaten Joey in some other eating competitions, right.
Speaker 9 (06:06):
Yeah, Look, obviously Joey's the goat. He's been doing this
twenty two years now. I'm into my fourth year, so
I'm trying to try to make up, you know, make
up time with the base. But yeah, actually, like Joey
is the undisputed he's the hot.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Dog chap Man. Like, I don't know how he does it,
but I've actually beaten him.
Speaker 9 (06:22):
I've beaten a few of his world records, but I've
beaten him head to head in the last three chicken
wing contests. The chicken wing so I'm actually your chicken,
like like hot dogs are Joey's thing.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah, and don't.
Speaker 9 (06:32):
Get me wrong, joe has a lot of really strong suits, right,
but yeah, I'm actually for some reason, I'm really good
at chicken wings. And I've beaten him three times in
a row.
Speaker 6 (06:42):
Are these bones with chicken wings or with bones?
Speaker 1 (06:45):
No? No bones?
Speaker 9 (06:46):
So it's all that to bick, right, like stripping the
meat off the bone and the techniquing it and because
they weigh your bowl, right, so basically you get a
twenty pound bowl of wings, and like if you only
bite out of the wing and chuck it back in
the bowl, like you can do that, but at the
end of the day, like they're going to weigh your ball.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So the more meat you eat, you know, sorry.
Speaker 9 (07:05):
Didn't mean to run there, but the more meat that
gets eat it, the more chance you have a winning right.
So I have a really good technique of like stripping
the meat off the bone and you know, eating more
meat than anybody else and me a lot of.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Times Alvar Lopez got competitive eater James web on Zoom
and You've got a documentary coming to Amazon Prime on
August twenty second called James Can Eat properly titled and
in the trailer it shows you spent a long time
in the hospital.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
Was that from competitive eating?
Speaker 1 (07:36):
No, definitely not. So. I've got a very rare autoimmune disease.
It's still gain Barr syndrome. It's super rare. Not many
people have it.
Speaker 9 (07:43):
Me obviously being from Australia, it was like not unheard of,
but it was.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
A very rare thing.
Speaker 9 (07:50):
It took the frames to actually properly diagnose me. I
ended up spending almost two years in the hospital with that,
kind of trying to get that again under control.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
There's no qure for that autoimmune disease, so I just
kind of live with it.
Speaker 9 (08:05):
But I'm definitely through the West, hit and on and
everything freason right.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
Good, good to hear man.

to be upset about.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Just to entertain yourself.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
You can't just like enjoy the happy space for a while.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
You want to just so ridiculous, ridiculous. Let me tell
you something. This is why I'm mad today though, Oh god,
it is because I ask you to do one thing
when you get here before me, is to move the cone,
which is right two steps from your door of your car,
so I can park, so I don't have to double park,
get out, move it and it's right there. Like you're
(10:49):
literally not going out of your way to me today,
you did it.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
No hold on time out. I'm happy to always move
the cone, and I always do. Your schedule has been changing,
and I honestly forgot that you were coming in today.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Otherwise you asked me earlier. I'll get radio.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
Don't want to have ADD. You don't have ADD.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
You remember everything I usually I know, but you're at
the schedule threw me off.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
Usually I do. One time in my event, I did
move it. Someone moved it back. I could have lied,
but I was honest with you and I saw, do
you know someone moved it back? Because she said it
was there, and I said, I know, I moved it.
Welcome to marriage.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
You could have lied and said you moved it and
then made it up that someone moved it back.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I could.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
I don't lie. That's why. Oh my god, I set
segment for another day.
Speaker 7 (11:25):
Whoa four?
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Mario Lopez coming up?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Your on Mario Lopez and top For one last thing,
I recently posted something asking people you have to work
forty hours a week, what's a better work week schedule
A for ten hour days or B five eight hour days?
First of all, who works just forty hours a week?
I wish I just worked forty hours a week, to
(11:52):
which I say, there should be c an option to
work three twelve hour days.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Well, it's only thirty six hours. Though, that's only thirty
six hours.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
You know what, Maybe you throw in an extra hour here,
an extra hour there, depending on how depending on how
you feel on like Monday, or do you.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Come in for just four hours the next day, then
it's kind of a half day, but you still got
to come in.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
What if you do one sixteen hour day and two
twelve hour days? Oh, that's rough, that's rough, because yeah,
but the sixteen hour day would be after the four
day weekend.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, but I don't know, or is it better just
the four ten hour days?
Speaker 6 (12:26):
I think always.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
Fourteen hour days, then you get a three day weekend off.
Four ten hour days seems like the perfect in my head.
To me, that's the perfect scenario.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
Well, especially since three twelve hour days the math is working.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
It doesn't add up.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yes, tell Mario what you think on Twitter at On
with Mario. More Mario Lopez on the way.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
All that's said, big thanks to James Welling for joining
us onmrio dot com for more of my chat with
him and to check out the trailer.
Speaker 5 (12:49):

pop quiz. It's Mario and Courtney Lopez saying good night.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
With Mario Lopez. That's
