chat with the actress Dasha Polanco, you know her from
Orange Is the New Black, but now also part of
the Walking Dead, Dead City. Lots to talk about when
Dasha Zoom's in next First War Music.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
It's up ron Mario Lopez joining me right now on Zoom.
Actress Dasha Polanco, How are you, Dasha good?

Speaker 6 (08:52):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I just like saying your name, Dasha Palanko, What a
great name. Thank you. Do you know I'm Lopez too?

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Are you a Lopez to Lopez?

Speaker 7 (09:04):
You know that us Latinos we have five names, right,
Lopez is somewhere.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
In there, not Mario the only has two.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
That's right, I'm the only Latino with no middle name.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
I really have. Congratulations.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
He joined the Walking Dead universe in season two of
the series Walking Dead, Dead City.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
And what's your character up to in the series?

Speaker 7 (09:26):
Oh, oh, sergeant too in our bias, Well, she's uh,
dealing with survival and also establishing her power and kind
of dealing with the obstacles that we come across. So
we'll see what It was a very good and fun
role to portray on the Walking Dead universe.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, I bet I heard your character was attacked by zombies.
Does that mean you can come back as a zombie
or how does that work?

Speaker 7 (09:49):
You know with the walking that you just never know.
Now with the methane being the currency, they might use
me just for the methane, or they might release me
onto the to the humans.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
It's u It's a wide neck casts right there, all right, Dasha,
hang on, quick break and we're gonna come back with
more Dasha Polanco.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
More fun on the way on with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Getting back to Dasha Polanco from the Walking Dead, Dead City.
You're on with Mario Lopez. But I wanted to get
to this too earlier in the year you start in
the Lifetime movie Terror Comes Knocking the Marcellu We're Just
which is actually a true story of the family that
was held for ransom. Right.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
I was fascinated by this.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
How was it for you? Especially when I'm sure you
did the research. It was like, my god, what a
what a horror?

Speaker 7 (10:32):
Well, you'll be surprised that things are really happening around
this and sometimes we're like in our own bubble. And
when I got the opportunity to portray this role and
actually watched the documentary, I was like, I don't remember
this clearly, but it does happen, and it was important
for me to respect what the family had gone through
and just to you know, it's it's it's families. You

(10:55):
would be surprised how much survival and being the lead
a mother will lead you to do things to the extreme.
I mean, I think she was such a hero in
protecting her family.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah, I know, your human spirit is resilient. Did you
get a chance to talk or meet meet the family
at all?

Speaker 6 (11:12):
No?

Speaker 7 (11:13):
Yeah, I didn't get a chance to speak to them,
and I respect it, but I wanted to be respectful
enough to portray it as as close as possible. Obviously
we do things for TV, but I got to do
my own stunts, you know, and I got to do
fun with that, and just you know, I wanted to
evoke the emotion as much as I could.

Speaker 6 (11:34):
Just portray the story.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
That's cool, all right, Well more with Dasha Planco coming
up right now, let's get back to me. You're Almar
Lopez chatting with Dasha Palanko.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
From The Walking Dead, Dead City. But this was cool too.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
You were a part of QVC's Christmas in July on
their new game show Rapped, and you got to judge
people's gift rapping skills.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
I might be the worst gift rapper ever.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
I just do the bags like I like the bags,
and you stick it.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Does that count as rapping?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Well, that's what I do.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
If that forgets how this gift getting and you put
the little the little stuff on the top. But you
can really tell when there's a good good.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
I don't think that's rapping. I think that's bagging.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
That's bagging. But how did it work?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Did you just basically judge like how fast, how neat stuff?

Speaker 2 (12:16):
That's cool?

Speaker 7 (12:18):
Well, I got to the side of great judges. But
you know, I used to gift wrap for Harold Square
and Macy's. You really had a red tale pocision.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Okay, you're legit.

Speaker 7 (12:30):
Alright, so I was appa, but I'll give you some
credit for bagging. I guess you just for a little
two pieces of tape, little staples, right right, right right.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
I'm a guy.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
I try to keep it simple.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
I try to keep it simple, right there, Wrappings a
whole nother deal right there. All right, Hank Tay a
few more songs and we're gonna come back and wrap
it up. Wrap it up with Dasha Polanco. You're on
Mario Lopez and Dasha before you go. I know you're
an activist as well, specifically for HIV awareness, and even
recently participated in a session at the National Association of
Hispanic Journalists convention in Chicago about the media's role in

(13:05):
ending HIV in the Hispanic community.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
How did that become a passion?

Speaker 7 (13:08):
Well, I tried to align myself to a lot of
organizations that do for the community, and you know, get
involved with so many things children, but most important things
that are becoming very dormant. And I think this is
a subject that for some reason I found very interesting

(13:29):
that we have not speaking about it, educate, educating the community.
About when I got the opportunity to be part of
this panel with soletto'brien solet O'Brien, who I'm also on
her in her other organization, I was like, absolutely, I
want to speak up on this. I think the organization
that just self does such a great job with also
providing prevention education and also how to get help, and

(13:54):
that's that goes hand in hand.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Good for you. Well, congratulations on everything, Dasha, and listen,
you can check out Dasha right now in season two
of The Walking Dead, Dead City on AMC and in
her lifetime movie Terror Comes Knocking on Amazon Prime.

kind of said. What is the ideal number of friends? Well,
a new study out that says the sweet spot for
friendship might be five. These are the people you can
text at two am or vent two without a filter.

(15:04):
It turns out people with five solid connections feel more grounded,
more supported, and science also says that three friends is good,
but five gives you that extra cushion, the sense that,
no matter what, someone has got your back. Okay, yore,
Mario Lopez, Producer Frazer and studio with me because it's
