I bet your mom never throw it away.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
More Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Mario Lopez here, And if you go to the grocery
store today you can find the latest snack mashup. Limited
edition Oreo Coca Cola cookies are now on sale. I
tried them, and I'm an old well you know, I
don't really drink soda. I'm not a big soda guy.
And Oreo cookies. Orio Cookies taste like the first cookie
ever invented. When you bite into it, it just tastes
(04:08):
like it's.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Memoris, Like that literally was the cookie.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
They made thousand years day.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, it's like the cookie good.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
It is still good, but you're biting into it and
I'm like, this cookie feels like it's been around one
hundred years. They also, by the way, have Orio flavored
coke zero sugar. Didn't try that one. If you go
to seven eleven, you're gonna find Orio Coke slurpie. Okay,
now they're getting crazy.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Mario Lopez here.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Today's guest is one of the stars the new Fox
drama Murder in a Small Town. It's actress Kristin Crook.
We're gonna find out all about the new show, but
I want to ask her about Smallville too. Kristin's going
to zoom in after a few more songs. W A
and Mario Lopez joining me now on zoom from the
new series Murder in a Small Town. Actress Kristin Krook,
Welcome to the show. How are you?
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Thank you? I am well. I am in LA for
the first time and I believe a decade.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
So that's a trip, is that right? So wait a minute,
where where's home these days?
Speaker 6 (05:03):
Home these days is Vancouver? I was in Toronto for
like ten years. Yeah, and I just moved back a
couple of years ago, right after the pandemic, and it's
lovely being back on the West Coast. But yeah, I
just I've never really lived in la but I've you know, obviously,
I've come here a lot, but it's just it's been
a long time since I've had reason to come down here.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Wow, So you fell in love with the city. It's
a great city. I spent a lot of time there too,
in Vancouver, Yes, yeah, when you were you were shooting
the show there.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
I'm assuming we shot Murder in a small town in
like right outside of Vancouver, there's a there's an area
called the Sunshine Coast. I don't know if you've heard
of it, but it's this gorgeous spot that's like on
the highway up to Whistler. There's you take a little
ferry and you go onto this like peninsula and it's
gorgeous beaches and mountains and all of these like beautiful
(05:47):
trees and eagles and whales, and you know, it's kind
of like a majestic, gorgeous landscape.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, majestic's a good word to describe it. Well, Murder
in a small Town Dave Use, September twenty fourth on Fox,
Got to take a quick break. We're going more of
Kristin Crook.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
More Mario Lopez coming.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Up, Mario Lopez here. My guest is actress Kristin Krook
and congrats on the show. What is a Murder in
a Small Town about?
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Yeah, Murder in Small Town's a detective show. It's a
murder mystery, and every episode, ish there's a new kind
of murder in this town. And it's not like a
dark and twisty show. It's more of a like challenging
and interesting murder mystery. But it feels like a home
that you're coming to, like a community that you want
to be a part of. And at the heart of
(06:32):
the show is a love story between Carl Alberg and
the character I play Cassandra Lee, who's a librarian in
the community.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Oh you're a librarian, so you're not one of the detectives.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
No, no detectives for me. No, I don't have to
do any of the exposition. It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
So there's a murder a week. That's a lot for
a small town.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
It is a little town.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
Yes, it's a violent town, but it's not. It's funny,
you know, like when you watch a lot of shows
that are that are mystery shows, there is like a
conceit that these things happen and it's not like a
big deal. It's not like what is happening in this town? Right,
it's sort of in my mind it lives as a
fantasy element something that is there, but isn't you know,
(07:14):
like what is this onslaught of murder? It's just not
really what it is.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Now, I'm a big fan of murder mysteries and there's
a crime doc on every night at Costa Lopez, so yes, totally.
Oh yeah, somebody's got to be getting whacked to go
to bed over here. Well, don Christine got to play
some more music, now, what al Mario Lopez here, We've
been talking about the new Fox show Murder and a
Small Town with actors Kristin Crook. And this is based
on a series of novels, right, Yes, were these books
(07:41):
on your radar at all before?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
No?
Speaker 6 (07:43):
No, Listen. These books came out in the eighties and
they they took place in this community on the Sunshine Coast,
written by a woman named L. R. Wright, and they
were optioned I believe almost like thirty years ago originally,
and indeed, Donald Sutherland was a hatch to play, was
attached to be a part of the original movie that
(08:03):
they had fellow the Canadian, Yeah, a fellow Canadian. Yes.
And so this is the TV show that took this
long to end up in this incarnation. So they're rereleasing
the books. I did part of an audio book, so
there's a whole bunch of stuff for people to read.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Oh that's cool.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's exciting.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Well, debut September twenty fourth on Fox. We're going to
talk more after we play some more music. You're al
Mari Lopez. I got actress Kristin Crook on Zoom with
me and coming up in October, you're attending a convention
dedicated exclusively to Smallville. I got to those are fun.
I'm sure you're gonna have like a good time.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Did you shoot that in Vancouver as well? Was that
in Canada?
Speaker 1 (08:43):
We did?
Speaker 6 (08:44):
We shot in Vancouver. I got to live at my
parents and my dad used to drive me to work.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Oh wow, So you're you're you're born and raiser.
Speaker 6 (08:52):
Born and raised in Vancouver, left to Toronto, came back
to Vancouver. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Wow, that's wild right there that you managed to stay
in your hometown during that.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
I know, I'm so lucky. So it doesn't happen very often,
but I'm so so lucky. But yes, we have October.
We have a full convention. First time we're doing just
a smallville convention. It's in New Jersey. It'll be it'll
be Mayhem. I'm Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor's a trip.
So they're always a good time for people.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, yeah, no, I'm sure it's going to be a
good time. Do you still keep in touch pretty often
with the other castmates or is it sort of like
when you went to school with people you see them
when you can see him and catch up with No.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
I mean, because of these this convention circuit that a
lot of us are a part of, we see each
other fairly often. But I've become quite close with Erica Durance,
who played Lowis Lane on the show. We both live
in the same city, so we didn't really get to
work together on the series, but we get to see
each other now and she's become a real like bosom friend.
(09:51):
You know. I love her to pieces And it's because
of that time that we spent on the show, but
also this time that we spend in the convention circuit
that we that we've been able to become so close.
But yes, I know them better now that I knew
them back in two thousand and five or whatever it was.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, Oh wow, the time was quick, right there, doesn't
it me?
Speaker 2 (10:09):
It surely does. Well, that's great. Everything seems to be
going great professionally. I got one more thing I want
to ask, but let's take a break. I'm going to
wrap it up Kristin Krook in just a moment.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
You're the full interview now on with Mario Doug More
Mario Lopez on the way.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Mario Lopez, you're rapping things up with actress Kristin Krook.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
And what about social life?
Speaker 2 (10:27):
You haven't fun anyone special?
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Yeah, social life's fine. You know, I'm not super social.
I am a reader and spend a lot of my
time reading books. I also, I mean, I don't know
if this counts as a social life. But I got
my bachelor's degree recently.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
So oh, good for you.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
Yeah, so I went back to school and I did that.
I did it virtually and it was incredible. But yes,
my social life involves a lot of being in my
head and going hiking.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I respect that, and that's admirable that you went back
to get your deal. Very cool, very impressive.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Well listen.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Congrats again on the show and be sure to check
out Murder and a Small Town. It is premiering September
twenty fourth on Fox. Kristin, thanks for hanging out.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
Thanks so much, Mario, have a good day.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Okay, you too, Mario Lopez. Here in the Stagecoach Festival
has been getting more buzz than Concilla the last couple
of years, and now they've released the twenty twenty five
(11:35):
lineup could be the case again too. Headliners include Zak Bryan,
Jelly Roll, and Luke Colmbs. Plus there's Linea, del Rey, Shaboozie,
Dasha and Stgil Simpson. Three day festival schedule for April
twenty fifth through the twenty seven. You're a Mario Lopez
and the author of Game of Thrones is pretty ticked
off with a new TV show.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
On with Mario. Hollywood buzz.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
So George R. R. Martin, who of course wrote the
book Fire and Blood, which is the inspiration for the
Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon says he's
not too happy with the changes the show made to
the story. He says the villains in the book are
crueler and more frightening, in the heroes show more courage.
He's also upset that an entire character was cut from
the show. Producers say that's because it was a child,
(12:21):
which comes with specific work requirements that would have slowed
down production and jacked up the budget. George says this
is going to have a butterfly effect on future stories,
making season three less interesting. I understand from a production
standpoint not having that particular character be a child. Maybe
he could have been adult. I don't know if it
would have worked. However, what's not cool is if the
(12:43):
villains were actually crueler and they softened them. That's what
made Game of Throne so great is that it just
gave zeros and it was going for the Juggler all
the time. The bad guys were really, really bad, and
the good guys were real heroes. So I hope they're
not getting too crazy.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
More Mario Lopez on Away, You're.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
On, Mario Lopez, let's put on our thinking cavs. It's
time for today's completely random question. What are you asking your.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Wife is being held hostage thirty minutes away and you're
driving to pay the ransom and save her.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
It's a warm night and your windows are down. Do
you listen to music on the way there?
Speaker 2 (13:16):
No, I don't. I don't. I don't want to get distracted.
I don't want to go in with a good attitude.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Pull again, Whollo notes is blasting. Yeah, my head's boping.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
There's no sense of urgency. No, I got it. I
got to continue to see and be ticked off as
I slip into my Liam Neeson vengeance character.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
I think you chose the right handswer kind of Mario
Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Mario Lopez here. Every day is a holiday around here.
Today we're celebrating National.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Teddy Bear Day. Shout out Teddy Rocksbin.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Shout out to Barnie and Bobby, my first two bears.
I specifically remember that my mom decided to keep them
for some reason.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
For the future. Mario Lopez Library, here we go.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
What on, Mario Lopez Here, We got your first look
at the new doc from the director of Tiger King.
It's called mister McMahon and I cannot wait for this
because the little kid in me is very excited. The
adult in me and it's excited. It's all about the
founder of the wrestling's WWE WWF originally and they've been
working on it for four years. It's gonna reveal how
we made the business a household brand and a billion
(14:23):
dollar brand, and his recent downfall that led to his resignation.
It features Vince himself plus all the big stars like
The Rock Hulk, Hogan, Steve Austin, John Cena. It comes
to Netflix September twenty fifth, but you can see the
trailer now at olamaro dot com.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Go Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
And this is one of the wildest stories I think
I've heard. The headline was hilarious. I posted about it
last week. Amy Slattin from the show One Thousand Pounds
Sisters was taken off in a stretcher after she was
bitten by a camel at a Tennessee zoo. But then
when they took her back to her car, there were
magic mushrooms and pots sitting out and playing sight. So
the cops were rested there for that and charged her
(15:02):
with child endangerment.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Did the camel get in trouble?
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Campbell did everyone a favor so this is so bizarre
on so many levels. She she didn't see the show.
She was famous on social media when she asked the
doctor that about drinking, do I have to drink water?
Because I like Sody's. She drinks a lot of Sodi's
and it was so hilarious. Well, Sad actually shouldn't say
(15:27):
he lady is, but the Sodi's part was very funny. Wow,
she partying quick, lost some weight and started a party quick?
All right, Amy, take it easy more.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Mario Lopez coming up?
Speaker 2 (15:39):
What a Mario Lopez?
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Here was some quick buzz for you.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Hulu already given the green light to another season of
Only Murders in the Building. Season four just premiered on
August twenty seven. It's got a ninety seven percent approval
rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Season three received twenty
one Emmy nomination, So congrats Mario Lopez here, and I
want to give a shout out to Jackie Oh and
Claudia from the show A toast who had some really
(16:01):
kind words to say about me.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
Who's the sexiest TV host? Mark Consuelo's Jimmy fallon seth
Meyers or Mario Lopez. Mario Lopez. By the way, Mario Lopez,
I was about to skip this category until I saw him.
I was about to say, like, as we were reading them,
I hate all these people, but then I wouldn't include
Mario Lopez and that.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
And let me say something, Benn's friends with Mario Lopez.
Speaker 7 (16:22):
He is seriously the nicest guy on the planet. Like
what you think he is on TV, He's exactly like
that in person.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
He gets my vote.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I love these ladies.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
They are so sweet and I really appreciate the uh
the kind words, especially the one that hates everyone but me.
That was very very nice.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Sorry Jimmy Fallon.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Yeah, hey, I think that was a poll or you
can vote on People magazine, so uh yeah, holler at
your boy can shoot him a vote, and thank you again, ladies.
The Toast, which I hear, is a very popular podcast.
It's got lots of listeners. You may want to check
it out, but right now, let's keep the music going.
All Mario Lopez down.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Number one.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Last thing we're getting the first TV show based on
on a TikTok feed. Teresa Johnson has been posting videos
about her ex husband, who she describes as a pathological
liar maybe that's why he's her ex. Post collected more
than four hundred and fifty million views in just a
two week period. It sparked a bidding war, and now
ABC is developing it into a series called Who the
(17:19):
Did I Marry? This is very telling because now you
don't necessarily have to write a script, do a pilot,
or any sort of traditional way to get a show
on the air. You can create your own content on
a platform, just speaking from experience like this lady, and
it can possibly turn into a play, a TV show, podcast,
whatever the case. May be more opportunities than ever to
(17:43):
get into show business. So if you're listening out their
kids or adults, go for it and good luck.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Mario Lopez will be right back all right.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Time for me to pass the mic. I'll be back
tomorrow with a new Life, Haack and Courtney's Corner, plus
all the latest Hollywood buzz until then, Mario Lopez saying
good night On with Mario Lopez
