Speaker 2 (02:11):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
For some reason, that episode was on Loop on their TV.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
It's a good one. Al Mario Lopez quickly squeezed it
in Today's Lamber Birthdays. As always, Fraser is gonn shout
him out.

Speaker 2 (02:53):

Mario Lopez coming up?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
What a Mario Lopez here? What's some holiday buzz for you?
The lineup for this year is Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Filling out nicely. NBC announced some of the performers for
the ninety ninth edition of the parade. Kobe Calais, Sierra
Our Buddy Gaven, Deer Graus, Foreigner, Shaggy Little John, Jewel
Cool in the Gang, Yeah, some fun throwback artists. That's
Thanksgiving Day, hosted by NBC's Today anchors. And make sure

(03:57):
to set a reminder for NBC on Wednesday, December third,
as I will be back in the Big Apple to
help kick off Christmas by lighting the Rockefeller Christmas Tree.
Fun tradition seems to get colder every year, but I'll
be there almar dot com to find out more. You're
all Mario Lopez a few more songs and they're gonna
fire up zoom so we can chat with today's guest,
Laila Taylor from the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives new

(04:20):
season kicking off this week, So hanging tied for that.
Leaila's gonna be joining us next everyon. Mario Lopez joining
me right now from the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
on Hulu. Layla Taylor, how are you, Laila?

Speaker 5 (04:32):
I'm so good. How are you?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I'm well?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Thank you? Congrats. Season three Secret Lives and Mormon Wives
premieres this Thursday. For people who may not be familiar
with the show, how would you describe it?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (04:45):
My gosh, I say, moms who fight, moms who fight?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
But is everyone Mormon on the show, because I know
that's the silly question, being that it's Morgan wise, But
everyone is Mormon, correct.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Everyone has the Mormon upbringing or has had some tie
within the church, but not everyone's still active.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Ah. Interesting. So that's why I'm surprised there's so much
drama because all of the Mormon people that I met
very nice. Now low drama, Yeah, not the case here?

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Right?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Are you involved in drama right now?

Speaker 5 (05:18):
I mean drama always seems to find us in some way.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Hmm. Okay, fair enough, and you're gonna be revealing your
new boyfriend this season, right well, yes, all right, well,
lots more to talk about quick break, We're gonna come
back with some.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
More Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Coming up, getting back to Secret Lives and Mormon Wives
star Leyla Taylor, who's on zoom Mario Lopez here, And
is it true that you secretly joined the Mormon Church
when you were in high school?

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Yeah. I my dad was not super supportive of the
church for pretty valid reasons, but I just wasn't aware
of them, and it was just something that I really
wanted for myself at that point in my life. Everyone
I knew was Mormon was very normal to be Lds
where I grew up, and I felt like that's what was,
you know, the right way to live life. And I

(06:03):
was like, Okay, well, if I can't do it, then
I'm just gonna secretly sneak it. And yeah, I got
baptized with my mom's consent because like one parent has
to sign off on it, and then I would just
sneak to church on Sundays, which is always really funny.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
You gotta do what's best for you? What do you
think are the biggest myths about Mormonism?

Speaker 5 (06:19):
M that we don't churn butter, we don't wear bonnets,
that were like fun. I mean there's definitely some weird
things within the church for sure, but we're fun. We
can have fun.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
You don't drink though, right.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
No, we're not supposed to do, but I do.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Okay, hey, ty, We're gonna have more with Laila coming
up after a little more music talking the Secret Lives
of Mormon Wise was starring Layla Taylor, Mario Lopez here.
And have you left the church or are you still
with it?

Speaker 5 (06:49):
I still have my records in the church. To formally
leave the church, you have to submit a letter to
like the higher ups and state your reason why you're leaving.
Then I just don't want to do all of that.
But I haven't been to church in probably like seven
or eight months, so I'm not active anymore.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yet, got it? So it's a whole thing. And you
have kids, right what you have children?

Speaker 5 (07:09):
Yeah? I have two boys?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Two boys, hold four and three? Oh wow, okay, yeah,
that's a handful. Right there are they are they? Are
they in the show as well?

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Or no?

Speaker 5 (07:19):
So me and their dad decided before we even picked
up for season one and filming that we're just going
to kind of keep them out of this. I stopped
showing them on my social media to a couple of
months back. I think it's totally personal because I know
some of the women on the show do show their kids.
I just this world's kind of scary, and if I
want to be a part of it, that doesn't mean
that they have to be. So I'm just trying to
protect them.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, No, good for you, Good for you. All right,
hay time, We're gonna more with Leila on the way
getting the low down on the secret lives of Mormon
wives from Layla Taylor. You're on Mario lopez new season
kicking off and are there little allegiances formed or is
everybody cool with each other or that's why they're No.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
I think everyone's relatively good right now. I think the
only person that's like on the outs that like, I
feel like, collectively as the whole, all of this woman
could agree. It's probably to me, but I think everyone,
to my knowledge is good at the moment. Yeah, except for.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Her and she and which one is that one?

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Demi is the one that's married to Brett. She was
the one that was like the vander Pump Villa drama.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Oh got it? Okay God? And then there'sn't there one
that is a bachelorette right now?

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Yes, Taylor?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Taylor. So she's a batchlight and she's got kids too, right.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yes, she has three threes?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Oh three baby? Oh you're asking the bachelor to take
on a lot right there. Yeah, I know that's a
package deal, right there.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Boy.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Okay, is everybody married?

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Ye? Everyone but me Miranda and Taylor.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh you're no longer married?

Speaker 5 (08:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
No.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
So I got divorced in season one. I was in
the process of my divorce that wasn't shown on the show,
but got it throughout season one. I was going through
my divorce and just recently got it finalized in May
of this year.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Congratulations, finally officially divorced. But yeah, okay, you happy?

Speaker 5 (08:55):
Oh yeah? No, we and him we got married before
or we got pregnant before you're married. So we felt like,
especially in the church, it's you're not supposed to have
sex if we you're married. So we're like, hey, we
messed up one of the steps. Let's at least do
something right and get married. Looking back, we probably just
should have just stayed dating or maybe got engaged. But yeah,
I mean I got my second baby out of it,
which my babies are my biggest blessing, so it happened

(09:17):
for a reason.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
But yeah, it's hard when you're young and trying to
figure all that stuff out. Exactly one more thing I
want to ask, so quick break and we're going to
come back and wrap it up.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Well, you're the full interview now at on with Mario
doug out more Mario Lopez on the.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Way wrapping up with Laila Taylor from Secret Lives and
Mormon Wives. Mario Lopez here and overall, would you say
you're having a good time with the show?

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, no, this is such a surreal experience. I never
thought this would be my life and sharing it, and
it's hard. There's definitely downsides to it. People say comments
all the time and comment on your looks and your personality,
and they're only seeing such small snippets of things as well,
so it's kind of hard when people make very big
judgments off of very little. But overall, I'm able to
give my kids an amazing life, and I work with

(09:59):
my best friends and I wouldn't change her for the world.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
That's good. Yeah, ignore those haters, that's all they got
time for, right And as far as the holidays, you
got plans this year for Thanksgiving her Christmas?

Speaker 5 (10:08):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna be spending it with Mason,
my boyfriend and his family, so I think that'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Oh things are good? Then? Things are you found back quick?

Speaker 5 (10:16):
There, Leilah nice, No marriage though anytimes?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Sim all right, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, you'd be
smart about that. Well, good luck. Hope to hopefully see
you in person, and everyone be sure to catch lay
the Taylor out in season three of The Secret Lives
of Mormon Lives on Hulu. All right, sweetie, thanks for
checking in. Thank you bite, Okay bye now, al Mario

(10:50):
Lopez keep you the music coming your way. Right after
Fraser breaks down what's trending at almaori dot.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Com, care Nightly reveals which of her own films she's
never seen. H okay, you find out what that is.
David Beckham is now Sir David Beckham after being knighted
by King Charles the Third Woo, and Hillary Duff confirms
her return to music, teasing a mature new single, ooh.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Stuff by Duff. I like it almar dot com for
all that you're Amaro Courtney Lopez. Thanksgiving just around the corner.
So we're gonna squeeze in a mini Thanksgiving pop quiz.

Speaker 6 (11:22):
God, I'm gonna lose answering some Turkey Day trivia. Let's
get our hands on the buzzers.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
With Mario pop quiz.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
What Thanksgiving vegetable slash side dish was grown in space?
That is Courtny stuffing incorrect?

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Incorrect?

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Potato potato is correct.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
In nineteen ninety five, in collaboration between NASA and the
University of Wisconsin, potatoes were grown in space inside the
Columbia Space Shuttle.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Wherever in space we can just carb up. We're good
to go.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Love it.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
I'm there, all right.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
One to zero on average. This is multiple choice on average.
How many people attend the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in
New York City? Is it A one point five million,
B three point five million, C five point five million,
or D six million. It's Mario B B three point
five million. That is correct. Two more questions. How much

(12:24):
this is closest without going over how much did the
world's largest pumpkin pie weigh in pounds, Mario.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Twenty eight pounds, Courney, the world's largest pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie,
not pumpkin pumpkin pie. See, I'm helping.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
You don't even need to No, two hundred and fifty pounds.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Courtney gets it at three thousand, six hundred and ninety
nine pounds.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Wait what.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the pie
made by the New Breemen Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio
in twenty ten, it weighed almost thirty seven hundred pounds
and was twenty feet in diameter.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Oh my god. So yeah, that's literally one hundreds or hours.
You said that.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
I was going to say seven hundred and fifty pounds,
so I was still off.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
I just I assume like one pumpkin and the biggest
pumpkin for the pie, right.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
So yeah, I'm miss multiple pumpkins. One last question. It
is still two to zero. This one will be crush
that pie.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
By the way, this.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
One will be worth ten points. So it's anyone's game.
What state raises the most turkeys? Mario, Texas incorrect? Courney,
Utah incorrect, Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Really Mario Lopez will be right back.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Amaro Courtney Lopez. Just the season for holiday parties and gatherings.
But the age old question, how do you politely get
your guests to leave when the party is over?

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Get out?

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Well, we have no shame over Acossa Lopez. We just
say hey, everyone, get your kids, start heading out the door.
We're wrapping it up. But Martha Stewart, it broke down
exactly what to do. Recently on the Drew Barrymore Show.
What was Martha's go to move? Honey?

Speaker 6 (14:06):
She just says, I'm going to bed and I'll see you.
And if that doesn't work, she suggests turning off the
lights or even setting off the fire a lot.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
It's aggressive, she says.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
One time the fire department did actually show up. You
go to bed all the time and leave me and
I feel bad.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
You can't have as a couple. As a couple, you
both can't go to bed because people just be chilling
in your house all Yeah. Like people may not leave,
especially my parties and yeah friends, they will stay there
all night.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
They'll be on your pool until three am.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
But here's the thing, like now when we have birthdays
and stuff we do in end time, people still don't listen.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Because the family things it doesn't apply to them exactly,
but it does.

Speaker 6 (14:40):
We still don't want you here.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
We're tired.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
What if you have like a banner and then when
it gets like really close to the time, you just
unravel it and it drops and goes get out.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
I tell people that, like, hey, all right, got to
wrap it up everybody.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
Let's yeah, well now I know who not to invite.
There's people that I don't bite anymore because they don't leave.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
So be direct.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Music rolls on as we get ready to dig into
our mentions to see what's on your mind. Mario Lopez here, questions, comments,
whatever you got, please hit me up. We love hearing
from you. At On with Mario on Facebook and x
at on with Mario Lopez on ig back to see
what Fraser found for us. Next, you're Mario Courtney Lopez.
Let's get to your comments. Would you find honey?

Speaker 6 (15:22):
This is from at Bndito Juanito.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
I like that name?

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Is it?

Speaker 6 (15:27):
Hear me out on this one. Let's cut every day
down to twenty one hours. We take those three hours
from each day and create a new day between Sunday
and Monday where nobody.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Works I like the way you're thinking, Bandido Juanito, but
it's not practical because I barely get stuff done as
it is in the twenty four twenty four. There's no
way I'm gonna be able to finish what I do
in twenty one hours. And if I try to, then
I'm just gonna get less scape.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Yeah, those three hours are going to be sleeping.

Speaker 6 (15:59):
You're going to work day or the sleep day, even
if it's an hour and a half from each, You're
still losing, you know, losing sleep.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
We're gonna be looking older, all tore up. Oh, that's
me already. We're already. We're always harping on how important
sleep is. So good intentions, but.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
A more Mario Lopez coming.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Up, Mario Courtney Lopez. Her music rolls on. After some
quick buzz, Jim Carrey back on the screen and soon
to be back on the set. Doctor Sews says how
The Grinch Stole Christmas is making its way back to
theaters ahead of Christmas. Ron Howard directed flick, celebrating its
twenty fifth anniversary starting December twelfth. Nice.

Speaker 6 (16:33):
Meanwhile, the rumors are true, Jim is going to be
switching from the Grinch to George Jetson, where does he'll
start in the new Jetson's movie.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Oh that's cool. Mario Lopez here was something kind of fun.
As we head into winter, A bunch of states are
starting up their annual name a Plow contest. In fact,
North Dakota just announced their as Past winders included snow
Force one clear a Pathra that's a good one, sled
Zeppelin another a good one, and Cousin Eddie. These are great,

(17:02):
but even some southern states getting in on the fun.
Arizona did last year. They doesn't get that cold in Arizon.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Well like northern Arizona has mountains.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Well, okay, flag staff and stuff. Yeah, and their winners
were Blizzard of Oz, Scoop Dog, Darth Blader, Plow A
Sourus Res, and Sleetwood mac Oh. I want to participate now,
these are great names. I like all of these. So
have you started your holiday shopping yet or have you
even started thinking about it? Mario Lopez here. Holiday cheer

(17:30):
already kicking into gear this year, with around forty two
percent of shoppers already stocking up for the season. According
to the New Consumer Spending Survey, on average, shoppers are
planning to spend around eight hundred and ninety dollars each
on gifts, food, and decor, and families with kids are
budgeting a little bit more. Instead of waiting for the
usual big sales weekends, many are spreading purchases out over

(17:52):
weeks to avoid stress and score better deals.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
Well.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, the earlier you shop, obviously, you can get a
lot of good deal, especially for Christmas decor when you
want to decorate your house. But if you see a
good deal, this is me and I'm not even joking.
If I see something that I know friend of mine
in particular likes, it could be July and I'll buy
it and I'll put it in storage. I'll be like,
I'm gonna hit him with that for Christmas.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
And by the way, the best time to buy Christmas
decor is January.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yes, absolutely more. Mario Lopez coming up Albor Courtney Lopez,
NFL lining up the stars for some pre Super Bowl
fun two days before the big game. Sting It's going
to be headlining a super Bowl branded concert at the
Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The show is
one part of the Super Bowl event that's going down.
Described as a weekend of unforgettable music entertainment at one

(18:38):
of San Francisco's most iconic venues, and of course Super
Bowl kicks off at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara here
in California, February eight, You're all, Mario Lopez. One last
thing to get too shortly hang on for that first though,
I want to congratulate all our five thousand dollars winners
in Iheartradios. Thank a teacher powered by donors choose. By
the way, there's still time for you to nominate a

(19:00):
public school teacher making a difference, and maybe there'll be
one of our next winners of five thousand dollars to
make over their classroom. Help us say thank you to
the educators shaping our future. Nominate your favorite teacher now
at Olemuria dot com slash teachers jo Mario Lopez tome.
For one last thing. Can you imagine working for an
entire year and not taking a single vacation day?

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
I can't. Yeah, actually yes, Well, according to new research,
that's the reality for nearly a quarter of us who
didn't use any of their paid time off over the
past year. Biggest thing from keeping us from taking paid
time off the heavy workload. Forty three percent say they
can't justify time away because they have too much work.
So how much PTO of Americans actually taken in the
last year. Twenty one percent took less than five days

(19:46):
in the past year, and only eighteen percent took more
than two weeks. Wow, that is pretty shocking to hear,
you know, And a lot of people don't have a choice, unfortunately.
But if you do have a choice, it is important
to unplug and kind of recharge because you're doing more
justice for your job.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Yeah, I mean even your job, even if you can
just like take long weekends here or there.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Exactly more Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Thanks so much for hanging out. As always, feel free
to hit up Allamara dot com where relive any and
all of our radio fun. We're back to do it
again tomorrow. Till then, Mario Lopez saying good night.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
