Zoom the singers from the band All American Rejects. We
got Tyson Ritter and Chris Gaylor. Welcome to the show, gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
How are you great man, how are you doing? Thanks
for having us.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Thank you for taking the time. Congrats on the new single,
A cover of flag Pole set up from Harvey Danger.
What inspired you to record this? We were kind of.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Rolling through the southern United States on a tour that
was really easy, and so every night we kind of
just got on this fun little like flashback playlist have
it where we would just all jam out sort of
the songs that shaped us in the nineties, and Flagpole
said it came on and maybe maybe in a couple
of drinks in and I was like, we should cover

(00:45):
this song, and Everybody's like yeah, And then I was like, no, no,
we should record this and everybody was like yeah. And
it was that simple, and given that we haven't done
it in so long, it was kind of a great
little excuse just to get back in the studio, which
we haven't done, you know, a decade, So it was
it was a really fun time.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I like hering artists kind of put their spin onother
artists as songs. Uh is this just a one off
single or is there more music in the works?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You know? I think for us it was a beta
just to see if we could tolerate each other in
the studio again our toes in the water, yeah, and
tolerate yeah, no, no, there was no blood spilled, so
uh yeah, it could could lead to bigger and better
things for us.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
I think good to hear, Good to hear next month
your pay pardon me? You're playing with the When We
Were Young Festival? What are you most looking forward to
about that?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
We're Las Vegas? Uh is a love child of ours
and Uh, I think we've decided to sort of put
all our capital from this show into the production because
we really wanted to take a big swing. So if
you're going to be in Vegas down at When We
Were Young, definitely come check out our set because it's
going to be one of a kind experience.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I'm a fan of those big festivals and it's a
chance for bands to kind of hang out with each other.
Or is it too chaotic and y'all don't really kick it?
You go do your thing and you get.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Out, you know, like depends on the mood we played it. Yeah,
we played it in twenty twenty two, and the backstage
we were like we kind of just took a piss
on the whole day, Like we dressed up as Elvis.
On the second night, we were all like five Elvis's
and we were and the backstage was really catered well
and lovely, and so we were standing at the bar

(02:24):
that they had for artists and nobody, nobody was hanging.
It was really interesting. We were like these just desert
Island Elvis's ponied up to a bar, and it was
It would have been a great shot. But hopefully since
there are a couple of years in on this fest,
I think it'll be a little more fun backstage.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, I'm sure it will be. This is the twenty
fifth anniversary of the band's formation. What do you all
remember about your very first gig together.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
It was in Tulsa where we were just starting to
pop on radio, and it was like this wild Beatles
experience for us, because it was just, you know, we'd
played this venue so many times just as a two
piece and there would be like five people there. But
after the radio got ahold of it in Tulsa. It
was it was like wall to wall and it was

(03:13):
his first show. Yeah, so the heat was on, Yeah no,
and I remember the screams being louder than our band
and it was. Yeah. It was a wild sort of
baptism by fire that kind of didn't stop for many,
many moons.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
It was great And fifteen years ago the song gives
you hell Top Billboards mainstream chart. I mean, when you
get a number one song, it's it's got to have
that dream come true sort of feeling. Huh, I'm still
I can't.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I still can't believe that happened. Yeah. No, I remember
just going because Lady Gaga blew up so big after that,
I was like, we beat Lady Gaga this year. It
opened for us at a radio pest that we were doing,
like we played after her at one point, I mean,
just weird out for her.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
And where's home for you? Guys? Are you La based
or he's.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
La I'm Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Oh so you remain in tell Us? Is that where
the band short was formed or you're just you're the
only one from there?

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Still Water was where the band formed and he's from
Edmund And yeah, we just four Oaki's kind of riding
a rocket around for a while.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
I like it. I like I spent some time there.
Good wrestlers come out of Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Oh yeah, over state baby.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
That's right. Well, gentlemen, thank you so much for your time.
And hey, listen to flag Pole Sita on iHeartRadio or
wherever you get music. Tyson Chris, thanks for hanging out.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
