Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez A Mario Lopez joining
on Zoom from the show Boy Meets World actors Danielle Official,
Riders Strong and Will Friday And welcome to the show. Guys.
How are you, how are you doing? Thanks for having us.
I'm well, thank you. Congrats on the new podcast, Pod
meets World very clever. Um. So what made you guys
(00:20):
at this point want to revisit the show after all
these years. I think we're just at the right distance,
you know. I think I think even ten years ago,
I wouldn't have wanted to do any interviews about Boy
Meets World. I wanted to move on in my life.
But now you know, I'm forty two. Uh, it feels
like a long time ago. Uh, And I feel it
was a long time ago. It was a long time yeah,
(00:43):
And so I just think we just reached that time.
You know. We started doing conventions a couple of years ago,
and like meeting the fans and how much the show
is still stuck around for people has just is mind
boggling to me. Uh. And I've never watched the show,
so this is a good opportunity to go back and
like kind of discover what it is that other people
have been telling me is good for so long. And
also next year is our thirtieth anniversary, so it all
(01:03):
kind of ties in nicely. Congratulations on that that. Man.
I know, man, it it flies by. You know what
we're talking exactly what you're talking about literally, and I'm
sure people have been coming up to you now who
grew up watching the show are now sharing it with
their kids, and they get to watch it because it's
one of those shows that is obviously the family friendly.
(01:25):
You can watch the kids and it uh it holds up. Um.
That's actually one of the things that I've really loved
about the podcast personally is that Writer is watching the
show for Writer's first time, but also he's watching it
with his seven year old son who's never seen it,
and so Writer and all of us kind of get
to appreciate it through the eyes of a seven year old,
(01:45):
and it is It's really special. Do the kids respond
because I can't get mine to sit down. The last
thing I want to do is watch cat is watch Dad.
They do, and they don't want to watch me at all.
Do your kids? Uh so far? He yeah, so far,
he loves it. Um, we'll see, We'll see how how
long it last? But no, he you know, it's so
funny because like he just thinks, like the first the
(02:06):
pilots like Mr Feeny's mean. I was like, oh, yeah,
I guess he does kind of seem me into a
seven year old, you know. So it's gonna take. It's
gonna be interesting to see how the you know, he's
basically seen it through Corey's eyes, like he sees the
show the way Corey does, so as the show ages
and he ages, is gonna be really interesting. Well, will
you be talking to other actors from the show, like
(02:27):
Ben Savage or William Daniels. Bill Daniels is actually one
of our first guests. Um, we have an open door
policy for anybody who wants to come on. We have
invited a lot of people to come through. We're really
looking forward to having everybody come back. We had asked
Ben when this idea came up for the podcast in
two thousand nineteen. It was writer's idea, and we had
(02:47):
a lot of discussions about it, the four of us,
and at the end of those discussions, Ben said, I
just don't think this is for me. You guys go
and have fun, and and we said Okay, if you
change your mind, let us know. Um. So he as
of right now is not to be a part of it,
but we've left an open door policy for everyone hopefully
will come in and pop in. He should, he should should,
he definitely should. Yeah, exactly, come on, get out of
(03:09):
there with that. Does the uh, how do you feel
the show, um holds up after all these years? What?
What as you're watching it is it? Uh? Does it
strike you much differently now as an adult? Some of
it holds up very well, some of it not so much. Um.
The clothing, well, yeah, that you can never Yeah. The
fashion aside, it has to be fashion aside. Yeah. I mean,
(03:32):
we certainly got better as actors as the show went on, um,
and we were, at least for me and the cringe
were worthy stage of my performances the first five or
six episodes where I really had no idea what my
character was or I was just kind of saying lines
and hitting my mark. Um. So seeing that kind of
growth will be good, And so far there hasn't been
anything horribly cringe worthy when it comes to not holding up.
(03:56):
One of the things that we've talked about is like
how often we were making out on the show, and
that's that like doesn't really happen on kids shows anymore,
And it does seem like a very nineties thing to
like have a bunch of teenagers making out and having
people in the audience cheer, like that was a very
nineties thing. Are right, Yeah, it isn't a very strange like.
I don't think we will do that anymore. We're on
(04:20):
our shows. That was okay, that's a very unusual thing. Oh, Mario,
we're talking to so many people today and to find
a kindred spirit. I'm always curious. What do you remember
about your audition initially for the show? Um, I mean,
the thing I remember about my audition was that I
didn't get it. I did not originally really. I went in,
(04:44):
I gave my audition, I did not get a call back.
I walked out the door. And then the next day
I got another audition to play a different character on
the show who only had two lines, and I booked
that role, and I then went to set and realized, oh,
here's the girl they cast as to Panga, and I
got to watch her work and I realized how totally
(05:05):
different her performance was than what I had done. And
then at the end of that first day, they decided, uh,
they let her go. They fired her, and they said,
we have like five minutes to recast this part Danielle
and Marlaskof who was the other girl who had two
lines with me coming year and re audition and I
got to have like a second go at it, and
(05:26):
that's the time I booked it. That's an incredible story. Wow,
my mango was born to pango. Hey, welcome to Hollywood.
Did you ever see that? Did you ever see that
other girl? Obviously not your fault, but the other girl
that got let go? No, I have not seen her.
I did look her up not that long ago, um
to see what she was up to, and I think
(05:46):
she primarily left the entertainment industry. I think she was
like that, I'll get that discourage you real quick. Yeah. Yeah,
we all have kind of moments like that too. I
mean I wasn't cast as Eric originally either. So they
went off and they shot the pilot somebody else. Wow.
The only one who was good enough from the beginning
is that guy writer. You nailed it on lines in
the pilot, a small part in the pilot, But yeah,
(06:08):
I was there from the get go, and I think.
I think I was one of the first people to
audition for the role of Seawan too, So I don't know,
I just yeah, I got they knew you were it
from the moment from the rest of us at a while. Wow.
Oh that's cool, man. See those are those are fun
stories that people are gonna enjoy hearing. Um. Danielle, I
know you're also directing and uh producing and just announced
a new comedy called I'm with Her. Congrats on that.
(06:30):
What what can you What can you tell me about that?
Thank you? Yeah. I partnered up with Mark Blutman, who
was one of the writers of Boy Meets World, and
we are working on a project about how social media
impacts kids and UM and how popularity UH changes how
much of weight your voice has in the world. So
I'm excited about that. And I've been fortunate enough to
(06:51):
be directing children's TV pretty much exclusively since two thousand seventeen,
and I learned a lot of what I know from
this guy writer direct did more episodes of Girl Meets
World than anyone else, and watching him work with the
actors and watching how much he's known about cameras and UM.
I I learned a lot from both of these guys,
(07:12):
just in my personal life and my professional life. But directing,
I watched you a lot. Oh that's great. That's never
learned anything from writers. He taught me nothing. So yeah,
it's just the way it was. He's only got so
much knowledge to share. Exactly. You all have kids, you
don't have kids. Yeah, he very happily has no children, writer,
(07:33):
and I very happily do have children. I worked out
perfectly for all of um. I have to. I have
a three year old and a nine month old, and
I have one seven year old. I have a step daughter.
I have a thirty one year old stepdaughter, which doesn't
exactly the age station count. I've known since she was eleven,
but it's but it's uh, yeah, she's getting married. But
I always say parenting is easy. My kid came with
her own apartment in a four oh one k so
(07:55):
simplest thing in the world. Right, that's when they start
to get fun. Exactly, exactly. Well, congratulations on the pod
you guys, and listen to Pod meets World on I
Heart Radio or wherever you get your podcast. Danielle Wright
will thanks for taking the time. Thanks all right, you
got it, guys. Good luck I'll see you. Thanks with
