Speaker 1 (00:01):
With Mario Maria Lopez drain Down Studio, the host of
the new podcast How Men Think. Gavin DeGraw In Brooks like,
how are you, gentlemen? We're awesome now see you man,
you look younger and younger everything here. Actually think your
hairline came down. This is this is why you're my
(00:22):
favorite artist of all time. Now yeah, let me gras
this right here because I know you come from the
world of music, and Bruce, I know you're athlete and uh,
from the world of hockey too. So how did you
two meet and how did this come about? We had
actually in the studio a couple of weeks ago, but
his wife I met from the Dancing with the Stars world. Okay,
(00:47):
that's right. And I love the game my hockey, but
I can't scape, so that's better than just player and
I love I love this thing, but I have no tune.
Then there we go. But we literally we literally met
five minutes before we recorded our first podcast. Oh really,
so you guys were kind of like an arranged marriage.
They were very, very very I thought, like you met
(01:08):
on the show and y'all hit it off. Dude, It
wasn't like that, but we had we had mutual. I
guess we have mutual friends, so that our names came up.
I guess within a couple of circles and then us together,
like these guys to get along. They were wrong, but
absolutely wrong. But what I loved is a bunch of people,
my wife, a bunch of people in my community. No
(01:29):
Gavin from Dancing with the Stars, and everybody raved about them.
They're like, oh, you're gonna love this guy. They were
absolutely wrong. But you know we have we have a
fantastic time. It comes through on the show. Um, we
have a lot of laughter. It's impossible, you know, this guy,
it's impossible with not to laugh with him around. So, um,
we have a we have a grand old time, don't we, buddy?
(01:50):
We do we do better and think. So, what are
some topics that you just talked about? Well, it showed
just started, so we're just kind of feeling it out.
We jumped into a couple of things are a little
bit uncomfortable here, and they're like a couple of guys
had kids on the show and they were talking about
finding things, Uh, you know when their kids technology they
weren't supposed to find, you know, young boys looking up
(02:11):
things that they're not supposed to look up and stuff
like that. So there's some uncomfortable stuff I thought, even
for me and I don't even have any kids that
I'm aware of, and uh, you know, so there are
some conversations that took place. Apparently I'm the only not
married person on the show. There's more that goes on
than just that too, though, So is there more there is? There?
Is there? Yeah, there's another gentleman named Dmitri who has
(02:33):
four kids. He's a comedian, comedy writer. Um, there's a
guy named Yeah, there's a guy. There's a guy name
Direct that's got a couple of kids, and another guy
that's the TV exactly. So there's five of us. Gavin
and I will be there every day and the other
guys will come and come in and go as they choose.
But um, very diverse group, very much different personalities and
(02:55):
very much different perspectives on life, which makes for very
entertaining conversation. Yeah, we're gonna try to have like some
of the honest conversations that are maybe not that easy
to have, you know what I mean, Like, well, for example,
do you have any do you would you like any
relationship advice? A single person, the one guy on the
panel that's single. Oh you're you're about to kick me
(03:15):
relationship today. What do you need help on? Let me
just for work on my can't degree black belt. But
in partner wisdom, you're gonna want to specific You're gonna
want to listen to the first couple to hear his
take on that. But we do we get into that,
(03:36):
We get into relationship, what it's like to be a
married man, what's like to be a single man, such
as our friend Gavin. Get into careers. We're all striving
to improve and drive our careers. Get into lifestyle and fitness, health, uh,
and overall trying to impact and improve the quality of
people's life mixed with a bunch of laws. Just touch
touching on a bunch of stuff. Okay, from a men's perspective, man,
(03:58):
So if you're if you're a man and listening, it's
it's a place to come hang out with dudes and
have man conversations, um that are going to be full
of laughter but also hopefully of service to you. The
pro version of the view if you're the but if
you're if you're a woman listening to you kind of
(04:20):
get to be a fly on the wall of all
the conversations that maybe your guy is having, or or
that men are having, if you're really curious to how
men think. So it's a it's a show geared towards
both men and women. Are women allowed as guests? Yeah,
there's been a woman, There'll be a woman. And I
think our first six episodes come on. Man, I throwing
a monkey. There might be a reason you're single. Well, congrats, guys, congrats,
(04:49):
good luck with that. That sounds cool. Where we got
a new album? Oh man, here's the thing about that.
I'm taking my time. Man. Uh. You know, I think
I think the way the way the music is going
right now. I have a couple of ideas, some stuff
that I feel as radio playable, but I'm sort of
feeling like I need to go another direction. Musically. I'm
feeling almost the Seeger vibe. I'm feeling the old school Yeah, man,
(05:14):
I'm feeling the Bob Seger vibe. I'm feeling the Tom
Petty vibe. And I'm feeling like just just another direction,
more that raw kind of that freedom, that freedom centric
sort of sort of material, you know, underproduced, zero auto tune,
no fake drums, you know what I'm saying, just kind
(05:37):
of the the anti pop hit him with the old
school a little too. I'm gonna use a few pounds
a little night exactly, man, do what That's what I'm saying, Man,
what are you doing? I thought I was your partner.
I thought we were gonna be a duo. The hell
the band? We're doing a guy band, old guys on
(06:05):
the block there, exactly exactly, Brooks. On your social media,
you're all about the working out man, motivating people right there.
So what's the typical workout week look like for you? Uh,
I'm just trying to keep up with you, brother, That's
what it really is. Um, it's already trying to keep
(06:26):
it together. I'm injured, you're I'm older than you, so
it's start falling. Dude. I just love it it. It
just lights me up. So training for sport was one
thing I trained my whole life to be an athlete.
And now that I've retired from hockey, although I hate
the word and haven't said it, Um, you ate hockey,
you hate tired. No, I hate the word retired, retired,
tired You grew tired no, no, no, no, never grew
(06:48):
tired of it. But I just love it just lights
me up. Like gather rights music and enjoys arts. I
love like intense physical activity. So daily daily activity for
me would be like this morning, I trained from eight
to eleven and came here to do this show. That's
like that's a whole half day. And then I go
home from here and then I'll train for another hour,
hour and a half this afternoon, take my dog for
a run as well. Um, I just love it. It's
(07:11):
not I end up being able to build a business
around it. We have an app called open Gym that
we share and um, we're doing an app blast challenge
right now getting people. My mom does it like, Uh,
it's for everyday fitness or for professional athletes. We have
a range of programs and it's awesome. I was getting
drunk at the bar last night watching one of your
workout videos. It really made me so tired watching or
(07:34):
drinking vicariously. We'll get you on the program, no, buddy,
we will. I think I'm gonna half to I think
it's fit time, good for you, Good for you though.
That's great. You motivate people, and it's so important as
you get older too, So I'm all about it. The
hardest thing is uh, just finding the time. You know,
as as uh you get busier and busier where you
(07:56):
from originally from small town that it's it's you've never
heard of. It's called Wawota, six hundred people Wooda. We
called it Watown, Saskatchewan. It's about two hours north of
North Dakota. So we're right smack dab in the middle
of Canada. Flat cold, seven months of winter, but lots
(08:19):
of hockey. It's cold, okay, so you're Canadian? Yeah, okay,
but loving this l a life man, I going back home. Bot.
We actually don't say that. Everybody. Every American says we
say that I have never heard of Canadian say a
boot you just did. That's pretty good. Is the family
(08:41):
still back there? Family? Mom, daughter back there, brother and
sister back there. Yeah, but married an American girl live
here in Los Angeles. You know, my wife very very cool,
she's awesome. Um loving life down here, man. Someday Yeah,
some day you're not you're not trying. I wouldn't say
we're trying. I was not trying. We're not. I would
say we're starting to start talking about it, so we're
(09:03):
not talking about like, hey, we're having kids right now.
But we're like, hey, should we start talking about so much?
Gotta I gotta be in good shape to reproduce pass
on good genes, right, Rather go for it, that's all
right before Let you guys go and put you on
the spot. Quick questions, quick answers. Okay, song you can't
get out of your head. Not over you, Kevin. So
(09:34):
that's a little plug for you. Come on, man, I
appreciate it's a homie right there, amie um Canadian national anthem?
Yeah yeah, can you sing it? A movie you've seen
the most who anchor Man, Rounders, Rounders one of my
(09:57):
favorite movies too, Yeah, either one. Really, Tombstone I've seen too.
I love it. And that was right, and you got
to meet your buddy, Oh my god, oh yeah. This
on a Memorial Day weekend. We go to play the
Capital Lawn right with the orchestra whatnot. And I played
(10:19):
a song, a role called Soldier and uh. I walked
backstage and I saw Sam Elliott, who was in Tombstone,
you know, and I told my brother. Of course, my
brother was like, my brother said, you should have said
to him, you're going to risk all that over a misdemeanor. Which,
of course, there was a line about you know anyway,
disarming again whatever comes out and what I'm doing, I'll
(10:41):
stop it all. Why I cannot turn that movie off?
I went so far in that movie. Something on your
minds sitting in my chair, Dude, I actually took my
RV the above to be quick. Sorry. I actually expect
my Harvy, my Harvy town. I still through the town.
(11:06):
That's why Kevin goes, oh my god something his podcast
that was like fourteen hours up A couple more quickly
nickname growing up. Oh my god, that's what it was.
God I had. I had a lot of them, just
(11:28):
fun the pork and beans. I gonna let the boys
know that we'll have fun with that on the show.
Which movies that plug can be? Uh something about me? Man?
I just was just pork and beans. But one of
my names mine wear that flashy mine. Mine was this
Brooksie or like her? Was it nothing? Okay, celebrity crush
(11:52):
growing up? This is true. This is true story. I
my wife and it was my celebrity crush. I had
knew nothing about all he would chained that much older
than you. I don't know if I talked about my hometown,
had six D people. Dude, we didn't even have a
movie theater. I did not have a celebrity crush girl
and talk about like as a teenager. Who's when I
(12:14):
was a teenager at Britney Spears was hot. I don't
know what work. I don't know if I'd say she
was my crush, but she was just the person I
saw the most on TV. Maybe Cindy Crawford. Everybody's like
my buddy had a post awesome poster. Cindy Crows had
that one. Yeah, yeah, you had had that one. I
(12:35):
thought Pam Anderson was hot Canadian girl. She was hot. Yeah,
she was delicious. That's a good Yeah, the greatest actress
of all time? Who do you put on the mount
Rushmore of men? Oh boy, oh boy, damn. That's a
great question. Man like Sam Allett, probably it's up there, bro. Yeah.
(12:58):
I asked him to be in a music video. I
sho would you ever consider to be in a music video?
He goes hell nose. It just he didn't like music
videos or didn't want to be in one of yours.
That's the best. Who would I put on that? That's
a great question? Cast Rushmore men? Damn? Sam Elliott you
(13:20):
want somebody that's real, Ferrell, want somebody that's of like
a immense moral fabric, somebody that I look up to
as a man for how they That's what I would
go next level, and I'm struggling to come up with
a name. Honestly, you put up there, and I was
gonna say, that's great. There you go. That's a nice
way to end it. That put Mr Grad and Mr
(13:41):
Likes up there with Sam Elliott with Sam and an
empty space for someone to be placed in the future.
