called Risis, your first all Spanish album in eighteen years.
What made you want to go back to your roots?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Elio?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
It's funny because a couple of years ago he comes
to me with this song that he says, and he said, Babe, I.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Wrote this song. You know.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I know I'm supposed to be writing because he works
with a gazillion artist.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
At the same time. They never stop the man because
but this song is for you. I really want you
to do it, and I was involved. It's been three years.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I've been working on this musical with Emily, the music
and the lyrics and everything for an original Broadway musical.
Al Basuda actually we have our name, the Recycled Orchestra
of Paraguay. These kids that live right they live off
the grid next to a landfill and they created an
orchestra out of They make the instruments out of the
(01:24):
trash that their parents survive on. And it's the inception story.
So I was really deep into this. Who are working
together with the book writer? And I tell me o, babe,
you know I can't divert and he.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Goes, well, you trust me. I go, absolutely, I trust
you those would you let me write more material for you?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
He bra and I said, you know what, I absolutely
am the minute you finished writing it, I'm in the studio.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
And then I had.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Been listening all along, so they felt like they were
under my skin.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
These songs. I already knew them well when I went
to sing them, and it was a joy. And he
just killed it.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
He wrote a lot on his own like that, he says,
And then with other writers like jam.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Marco who we love from Peru and the.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Guy that is from Panama that I love and that's awesome,
fantastic songs. I did write one song though, for my grandson.
Oh that yeah, I wrote it nothing to this album.
I had written it in English. We were together in
euro Beach and he left and I missed them so much.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I wrote this song, and.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Then when I went to do the album, and I've
got to write it in Spanish as well, so that
was on there in both languages.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Oh, that's so special, that's very cool. It's been a
minute since you've toured. Any chances people will get to
see on the road in the future.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Well, I'm going to be in Danetitcha actually Spain on
July twenty first, twentieth. There's a big festival going on there,
and I know there's plans for going back to pain
later on. You know, we've been thinking about it. We've
been working on it since I'm working on this, on
this musical. It's also tricky for me now to commit
to something.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
But if there's a chance to do like short spurts
of things.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I would absolutely love to get back to the fans
and just make that connection again. I don't think I
would do like a whole world tour because I tell
me I didn't work. It's hard to work.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
It's hard, right, I mean, I know exactly.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
It's beautiful to be with the fans, but it's a
lot of work, and i'd.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Be away from home.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I don't want to miss my grandson's life.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
So we'll work at it here and there.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Absolutely well, you're also voice saying speaking of Grandma and
Grandma Gigi in the new Gabby's Dollhouse movie coming out
later this year. To work with Kristin so easy.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I mean, I am a grandma, even though you know
my grandson says too too.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Some people don't understand.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
They think, like you're out and traveling, and they asked me,
does she recognize you?
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Like we're super tight.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
So when I got the opportunity and I saw the
you know, the script.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I go, oh my gosh, like I'm all over this first.
It's magical. I'm a magical.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Grandma that does this thing for for Gabby. And I
saw Kristin Wig was going to be in it with
huge fan it was just very special.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I get to be both, you know, a live action
character and animated little animated.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Character is so cute and yeah, and Gabby's daughter was
of a huge following I mean, I think over nine seasons,
so it was a very special thing to be able
to do as big theatrical release for Dreamwork.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
So I'm super excited. Ryan Craigle, the director, called me,
and you know, he's half Cuban and just one of
the nicest people I've met. It was I like, for
there'd be good vibes whenever I do a project so important.
I had a ball doing this.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Oh that's gonna be fun.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Though.
Speaker 2 (05:08):

to checking that out. And I can't believe this, but

my fiftieth year that I joined the band in seventy five,
