Speaker 2 (00:03):
Mario Lopez joining me right now on Zoom. Actor Josh Dumel. Josh,
how you doing, brother?
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I'm doing all right.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Mark are you, buddy? I'm doing well. Always nice to
see you.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
He gave me a quick little tour prior to speaking
right now of your beautiful place out in Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Man, how long you been out there?
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Now?
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Man, it's been sixteen years. I think it's been sixteen years.
But it's you know, it was.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
It was pretty rugged for the first ten and we
were picks and shovels for the first for the first
ten years or.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
So, no plumbing, no electricity, just out houses and washing
dishes in the ledge.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yo, that's wild because I know you're from North Dakota.
I can't picture.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Is it really? How close is that to Minnesota?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Okay? So we live in Fargo. That's that's my residence
is Farging.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
My wife is also from there, Oh she is, Okay,
but the cabin is about an hour and a half
into Minnesota from there.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Got it? So it borders it right there. Dude.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Well, that's beautiful out there. Congratulations man, and congrats on
the new movie. Looks fun off the grid ironically, who
we're talking about right there?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
What's the premise on this one?
Speaker 4 (01:13):
So it's it's about a guy who invented this cold
fusion technology that was intended to be used for free
energy for the world, but the government wanted to weaponize it,
and uh, you know, a few tweaks here and there,
something that was gonna be very good for the world
turned into something that could be very bad. So he
took it and he went into the into the woods,
into hiding, and he's been living off the grid for
(01:35):
five years.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
And oh wow, I think that's what really really, you know,
I love that about the script.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
When I first read it, as this guy was just
he's completely unplugged, living this life that's as basic as
you can get, and it's very innovative, and his gadgetry
felt very uh very mcguiver.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, and I like and I like that. So that's
that's that's one of the main reasons I did it.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
So thunder and fun and fun premise, and also your
Netflix series Ransom Canyon, congrats, I know I just got
renewed for a second season. I'm really looking forward to
checking that out because I haven't had a chance to yet,
but I'm going to because I love me a Western
and I love it.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
We got to put you in a cowboy heat and
come out and join us.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Dude, I'm ready, I can ride. Where do you all
shoot that at?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
New Mexico?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
New Mexico? Okay, we go to do a lot of you.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
In New Mexico for the Hill Country of Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yes, Oh so much fun. Do you have a blast
on that show?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I did you know? I hadn't been on a horse
for years.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
It been I mean, I grew up in North Dakota
like you like you know, but so I was just
by proxy. I was around horses my whole life and
rode quite a bit, but I hadn't ridden for years,
so it was a it was a pretty steep learning
curve when we when we got out, we had a
cowboy camp. We went out there and learned how to
rope and ride and wrangle one all the things cowboys do.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
That's awesome, man, I know, I'm looking forward to checking
it out. It's funny you mentioned North a coode. I
forgot to mention, well, I was there for something, I
think an a philiate visit or something, and.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Dude, you're all over the airport.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'm like, you're North Dakota with your video.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I was like, Oh, there's yo right there.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
The I'm the poster boy for North Dakota tourism. It's
it's a it's a heavy left.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Not a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Not a lot of people have visited there, but it is.
It is an amazing state. It's fun, man, they recommend it.
It's great for road tripping. Yes, it's just wide open, beautiful,
giant blue skies and corn fields and sunflower fields as
far as you can see in great little roadside diners
and bars and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
So it's it's a beautiful, beautiful place.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
God's country out there.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
And you got another film in the works, and you're
directing this one too as well as starting and it
called Preschool And uh, is this a first time putting
on the director's hat for a film?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Well, I directed, there's We did these two movies, Buddy Games,
and then the second Buddy Games movie called Spring Awakening, Okay,
and then and then this is gonna be my third time. Yeah,
this one, this one's a little less r rated. This
one is more for the masses. It's it's still pretty
hard hitting. It's about two dads who are fighting to
get their kid into the last spot in this super
pretentious preschool and sabotage and do all the things that
(04:08):
they have to to win that spot. So it's a
fun I think anybody from New York or LA or
any of the big cities can relate like I can.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Been there.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
We take Queen School very seriously.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
It's the biggest hustle kids of coloring. What am I
spending all this money for? I'm telling you right now
this other film in September. You're a busy brother called
London calling. What is this one about?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
So this is a movie that I did with Alan Hunger,
who directed a movie called Bandit we did a couple
of years ago, really talented young director about a guy
who's sort of a past his prime. He's a he's
a hit man who's past his prime. Opening the movie,
shoots the wrong person as to going to hunting in
Los Angeles, leaves London to a Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Is it a comedy? Oh yeah, because it sounds hilarious.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Isn't quite what it used to be. So he gets
his job.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Mob boss in LA and ends up working for him
in exchange for going back to see his son in London.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, he has to teach this mob boss his son
how to be a man.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
He takes his son is a little soft, so he
makes me take him on a hit.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
And it's just it's just a.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
You know, hey, that's that's an awesome premise.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
A lot of a lot of a lot of mishaps,
for sure, but it's a fun movie. Really talented cast
and very excited about that one.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
My kind of flick man congratulating that. And hold are
the kids now?
Speaker 4 (05:42):
I have an eleven year old who's about to be
twelve in AUGUSTA and then seventeen month old ah starting
to Yeah because our boys diaper's man.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah, man, our.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Boys, I forgot. Yeah, they're pretty much exactly the same age.
My boy is going to be about to be towe
all the same time too, But yeah, you got my
youngest is five, so.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yeah, they starting over again. Is it's fun? Wait, little boy, another.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Little boy or girl? Two boys?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yeah, two boys, two boys.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I'm hoping I have another one soon. I'm not pregnant,
but we're hoping to have another one. I'm nice to
have a little girl too.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
You'll probably give twin boys.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Hey, i'd be okay with that too. No, of course
that I really would be. I love being a dad,
as I'm sure you do it. It's a it's a
lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
All my friends are sending their kids off to college
and I'm still changing shitty diapers.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
I love it. No, you're right, man, And I think
now that we're.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
A little bit older, you know, you can appreciate a
little more patient and stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, wiser exactly than we were before. You know. It's
it's good. It's good. I get to be sort of
a dad in a grandpa in one.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I'm not looking at it like that, but I feel you.
I feel you, a man. It's nice catching up. Congrats
on everything, on everything and everyone listen. Be sure to
check out Josh in the new movie Off the Grid,
