Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fun with Morio lipez Hi. It's up on Morio Lopez
joining me now on Zoom from inside Out to actress
Kensington Toman, Welcome to the show. How are you.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm doing so good. How about you?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. Way from originally, Kensington,
I'm kind of.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
From all over. I'm in New York City right now.
I'm doing some press. I was raised in New York
City for five years, and then I moved to Los
Angeles for another five years, and then about a month ago,
I just moved to San Diego. So I'm kind of
from all over, But I would consider myself a city
girl at heart.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
And is that because your father's job or work or
why are the travel.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, my dad got a new job. He's in real estate,
and so he just kind of bounces around to you know,
different jobs, and that takes us to new and exciting places.
So I've had, you know, such an incredible childhood, and
I've really been able to live in the most amazing cities.
But i will say I I think New York is
just such a special place, and I love New York
(01:04):
so much.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
No, I agree, very cool. See San Diego my hometown
great town down there too. Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I love San Diego. We just moved there and it's
just so beautiful. It's you know, it's very beachy, and
everyone is very relaxed and laid back, and it's a
really nice change of pace, I will say, from the city,
which I do like.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, no, all right, well, very cool. Well, congratulations on
all the success with in C too. I imagine you
were a fan of the original absolutely so.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
When I had first moved to New York City, I
was six years old and I didn't know anyone at
the time. I was really missing my family and I
was kind of in this awkward stage. And so on
my sixth birthday, I went to see the first Inside Out,
and I didn't realize how relatable Riley was to me,
and I didn't realize that I would be like fully
(01:54):
in tears when I left the theaters. And Riley has
just been such a pivot part of my childhood and
I feel like has really been there for me through
each stage of growing up. And I feel like she
represents the human experience and kind of everything that we
go through as humans and adolescents, and so to be
(02:16):
able to play her now as a teenager is just
so special, and I'm so thankful that you know, Pixar
and Disney and trusted me with this role. I've had
the most incredible time working on it.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I bet they do such an awesome job of balancing
oh thank too, adult sort of humor for the parents
and as well as entertaining the kids. And man, what
a success. Biggest movie of the year. I mean, that
is so cool, really sort of reviving the box office.
Got to be a little blown away by that, huh.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
It is wild to see how well it's doing and
how it's really resonating with audiences across the world. I
think it has such a universal theme and can not
only appeal to kids and teens, but can also peel
to parents and adults. And I think what's really special is,
you know, for adults, they didn't really have the language
(03:06):
to process their emotions in the way that kids like
myself do now, and so they're able to process their
own emotions and then help their kids process their emotions.
So I think it's bringing families together. I've talked with
you know, parents, grandparents, therapist, teachers, and each one have said,
you know, how it's impacting themselves and their families, which
(03:27):
has been so special to hear.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
And I got to imagine they're perhaps planning a part three.
Have you heard anything yet?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I'm crossing my fingers. I think it would be so amazing.
I honestly could see an inside out three, four, five, six, seven, ten.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Why not. There's a lot of emotions out there.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
There are a lot of emotions, and I think it
would be cool to explore Riley as kind of a
college age student, because I think that's that's when you
go through that another period of change. I'm sixteen now,
and so I'm kind of getting close to that stage
and it's it's a little nerve wrecking. But we actually
we have a spinoff series coming out soon called Dream
(04:08):
Production Cool where I get to play Riley again, which
is super fun.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Oh nice, Well, good for you. You mentioned you're sixteen
years old. Do you have your driver's license yet?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
So I just got my permit the other day. Actually
I'm a little late to the game. I'm terrified, not
gonna lie. Just driving in itself seems really scary and
I'm really clumsy and get distracted really easy on the road.
I'm going to see a squirreld and like you're off
(04:40):
the road, so but I'm working on it. I have
to sign up for like behind the Wheel classes.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Good luck, God bless hopefully work how well. You're also
in the Max series Home Sweet Home. That must have
been awesome working in Italy.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Huh oh, yes, it was so incredible. I filmed that
in twenty twenty two and I got to be in
Rome for four incredible months. Oh my gosh. I love
Rome so much. I had never been to Europe before,
and I actually speak a little bit of Italian and
so I was able to get by and communicate with
the locals. And you know, it's a music driven show.
(05:15):
It's from the creator of Hannah Montana. It's has so
much heart. And I think my character Lucy that I
play is just so relatable as well, and I feel
like I am I'm basically Lucy, and I love that.
We're Actually we're in talks with the BBC for a
season two right now.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
So a lot of great stuff going on. So when
you're not working, thank you. What do you like to do?
Are you? What are your hobbies? Yes?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
I love art. I love all forms of art. I
love to paint. I love painting on the beach, that's
my new thing. I love to crochet. I love watching
movies and television shows and just relaxing with my family
and my dog, my rescue dog, Bruce Almighty, Brusse Almighty.
I'm a vegan, so I do some work in the
(06:03):
vegan community. I volunteered at a barn for a little bit.
Love hanging out with my friends. I'm really lucky. I
have the most amazing group of friends and we just
have the best time together, and I just I love
being with the people I love.
