Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario a little bit sober.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Mario Lopez joining me right now on Zoom from the
new film Doing It, actress Lily say, how are you, Lily?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm always great when I'm talking to you. You are
the joy of my life.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Honestly, thank you. I love getting to catch up with you.
You know, whatever I say the title of your film
Doing It, it just makes me want to say it
in the Llo cool J song, you remember that song.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Doing It, Doing It, Doing It?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Well, Hey, exactly, I love that song and looks like
I'm gonna love this movie. It looks like so much fun.
I know you co wrote it. Congratulations. You're also a
star in it alongside Sabriena Jones and and agast I
are very funny. For those not familiar, please tell me
about it.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah, so Doing It It is a raunchy sex comedy,
you know, the types that we grew up with. I'm
talking in the vein of American Pie forty year Old Virgin.
It is about a thirty something year old virgin who
finds herself teaching sex in so it is la a
lot funny, but it's not. Some good commentary in there
as well. You know, making people think, probably some important conversations.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
See that's that's great storytelling right there, and fun projects.
I love that, and I know it's a passion project
because it took about seven years.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Seven years, Mario, My longest and most toxic relationship has
been this movie.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Absolutely seven years ago.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I got the first draft of the script, I fell
in love with it. I was like, I absolutely am
obsessed with the idea of there being a sex comedy
with someone that looks like me. Yea, Mario, because growing
up I never saw myself in those movies, which is
probably why I've had such an awkward relationship with sex.
I never got the top, I never really had sex said,
and I was like, and this is so important and
I want to tell it. So yeah, seven years and
finally September nineteenth, it's coming out into the world.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
That's awesome. I bet it feels amazing. And I love
that your mom was involved in the production. What was
her role again, exactly he.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Is and this is not a vanity credit. Factually, she
help the cultural consultant. So yes, the scenes in the
movie that seemed like they take place in India, you know,
a shop for India, and she made sure that all
the language was correct, all the props were correct, and
it was mirrored off of her childhood classroom, so I
want to make sure it was true to her experience
as well.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Oh that's cool, Yeah, cool, that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I never thought I would say the words my mom
helped me with my sex comedy. But here we are.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
That's exactly. That in itself is an.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Exactly that's hilarious the movie yet, but she helped on it.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Oh that's great, looking forward to again checking it out.
I know you had another film come out this last month,
kids comedy Bad Guys too. We like the first one,
Oh my kids and I good time. And you've done
a few voiceover roles that, you know. It's a lot
of work. I've been doing that a little bit. It's
it's a lot of people think, oh it's great you
could and yes, you could show up how you like
wearing whatever, but all the different takes and it's it's

(02:33):
exhaust It's a lot of hard work, right, It's a
lot of energy.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
It does because.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
You're only communicating with your voice obviously, but like when
you're on camera, you can like do subtle things with
your facial expressions, with your hand jest. Right, when you're
just doing voice acting, so much energy goes into conveying
every emotion that way. So yes, often when I step
out of a sound booth, I'm winded for the day.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I'm exhausted.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
No, you're right, I was was telling me. I was like, dang,
I did it takes a lot out of you. And
coming up, you're all going to be appearing in season
two of the Tim Allen sitcom Shifting Gears. Can you
tell us anything about that?

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I pay a fun little role. I play someone who
with friends Kat Dennings, and we're two mothers and we
have a quick friendship that kind of goes through some
drama very quickly. And I've had the pleasure of working
with Kat before on Dolphins and with the show runner
Michelle Nader, so felt a little family reunion was such
a warm, lovely set. And I did tell a joke
when the cameras weren't rolling, and Tim Allen did laugh.
So I would like to believe that we're best friends. Now.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Oh that's good, because normal comics normally don't laugh. You
get a genuine laugh out of him. That's that's pretty
big time.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
The highlight of my day I'm not a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I would I would imagine so. And one last thing,
the Toronto Tempo. You are now officially a co owner
of a new w NBA team. Congratulations, you're making me
sound so cool and pretty darn cool. I think you're
pretty dark.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I am born and raised in Toronto and a huge
basketball fan, and so yes, Toronto Temple is Canada's first
and only WNBA team, and I would have been devastated
if I wasn't involved.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
My official is chief hype officer. As you can tell,
I'm pretty energetic person, and so when we tip off
in May of twenty twenty six, I want to be
their court side, cheering, making sure these ladies hey all
the attention they deserve.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I love it. I love it, and that's that's great.
Toronto's got a lot of a lot of talent coming
out of that town. Let me let me ask you
a question. Since you're a native Toronto, Toronto in or
Canadian mess that up? Who who is selling? Who is
more embraced justin bieber Drake or the Weekend? Oh they're

(04:32):
all massive, but I was just curious who is who
is Toronto?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Really?

Speaker 2 (04:36):
You know what I'm saying, Because they're all from Toronto, right,
they're right from Toronto.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
I feel like I'm biased, but I'm going to die
on this whole. That's fine. I'm gonna go with Drake
just because, like, if we're talking Toronto, I feel you
know what I mean. I feel like he's got a
lot of imagery on the sea and tower, like he
makes a lot of references to the Toronto area. And
so I'm going to say Drake. But I'm sure someone's
gonna be mad about that answer somewhere, But that's my answer,
and that's the hell I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
On Yeah, I mean, they're pretty massive. Those are three
massive stars coming out of there.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
We got a lot of the things going.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
On over there, I guess. So congratulations on everything, Lily
and everyone. Please be sure to catch Allie's new film,
Doing It, Doing It, Doing It. No, it's just one
doing it.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
It's just one doing it.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
It was Mario's interpretation. Fine, that was just getting them
fired up. It's only one doing it and it's in
theaters now. Be sure to check it out, Lily, thanks
for checking in. Okay, take Kessey

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
