Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez. So bro, Mario Lopez
joining me right now on Zoom for the.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
New show Ballard actress Maggie Q.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
How are you, Maggie, I'm Mario. A longtime no see.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I know it's so nice to see you. Congratulated shows,
thank you. New show Ballard just premiered on Prime Video.
It's a spinoff of your previous project wash Legacy.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Right. Well, I was on the finale episode of that.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
They introduced my character in that show, and then and
then we went on to, uh, you know obviously air
the new show.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Well that worked out.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
What were your initial thoughts on doing this one?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I mean, I honestly, I wasn't looking for a new show.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
I you know, I know that entails, you know, I know,
I know the work, the workload that that that that takes,
and so I was a little wary of actually starring
in a show again because I've.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Done it and it's it's it's a it's a tough job.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
So uh, I just thought, God, I have to really
really like this script to to want to participate again
in this way. And I was on a flight to
News and they gave me like six or seven scripts
to read, and by the end of that flight, I
was like, I like her.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I like this character. I can do something with this.
I can add value here. Nice. Nice.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, the show has already gotten great reviews, and your
character is part of the cold case division of the LAPD,
and all cases are notoriously hard to solve. What did
would you learn about them doing the show?

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Oh, my gosh, so much. You have no idea, it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well, first of all, I spent some time at the
homicide Library here in LA on the West Side, and
it's really just this. I mean, it's this massive room
of just boxes, like rows and rows of boxes unsolved cases,
and I think there's about ten thousand of them there.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
And so there's a few people that work there.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
There's obviously LAPD, there's reserve officers, there's some volunteers the
FBI work there. So I was able to just meet
this whole motley crew of people that come together in
this unit. And it's actually hugely important because they've solved
recent crimes with DNA from cold cases. So some of
these people get away with things for years, and then
when you do solve a cold case, you're able to

(02:07):
track it to somebody who's actually still out there and
they have done that, And so we kind of based
some of the stuff we did on the show on
cases like that.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, it's a whole new world now with it totally
is already get away with anything these days.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
It's so I know, people just don't do it. That's true.
That's true.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
That's uh.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
That's the first heads up in the show. You do
some surfing, I DoD.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Did you already know how to surfer? Do you have
to take lessons?

Speaker 3 (02:33):
I did I know how to surf. I wouldn't call
myself a surfer. That'd be going too far, But I
have to say I've never surfed in California.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Like that was very new to me.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Cold wetsuit and the freezing water and all the kelp
and the thing like I'm a white girl, you know,
I'm just like you're in your brating suit, you have
your board, and like that's it.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So it was so difficult. I mean, I don't know
how people surf when they're that cold. Where did you
surf out here by the way Malibu?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
No, in Malibu. I mean sometimes it depends on the
break too. You have some nice, uh smooth roll breaks,
but also the current's kind of strong. Yes, and you're right,
it's cold.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
And freezing, and your extremities, right, you're in a wetsuit, right,
so like the core of your body is like sort
of temperture regulated. But then your hands and your feet
and your head, I mean you're doing you're freezing.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I just couldn't believe it.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
And I was out there for hours and I was like,
I would never do this for funzies in Hawaii.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
I would, but why is a whole nother deal.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
My body's trying to get them to serf in Malibou
this week and we'll see, We'll see it's pretty hot.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
It just never warm. Mario, I don't understand.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
You're right, no matter what, you always need.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
A you're always in a wetsuit.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
And this is southern California. Can you imagine Northern California
when they're surfing up there.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
I've done.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I've jumped in the water in Northern California on a dare. Yeah,
it's like a cold plunch.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Oh my god, it was a cold punch, but it's moving, right,
you know how cold plunge is. And I do do
cold plunch, so I can do those things. But when
the water's moving, it's ten times colder.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Right, A whole another deal.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
You also have a health and wellness company called Activated,
you right, tell me about that.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You know. I have always took great pleasure in helping
people with their health. I mean, for me, it was
something that I do and I was on this journey
of trying to get myself to a certain place, and
when I did, I just felt like it was just
the natural feeling for me was I want to help
other people feel the same way. And it was very simple.
It started with a very simple concept like that, and

(04:31):
I had an idea about the company.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
I searched for investors, I pitched people.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
It's not like one of those companies where you know,
it's a celebrity who a brand already exists, which is fine,
and then you come on to be a spokesperson.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I really founded this company.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
This was something that was founded on my vision and
something that I wanted.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
To do because I love helping people.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
But also I also wanted just something that was outside
of entertainment, to be honest, something that fulfilled me differently,
which business does. And then it also created a sort
of safety net for me as well, you know, because
Hollywood's Hollywood, right, and you know you can't. You can't
really depend on it for the rest of your career, right,
You have to expect that it's going to go away

(05:12):
at some point. And so in doing that, I wanted
to just be smart and take care of myself and
also indulge in something else that I really love.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
That's helpful.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
But also, you know, like I said, creates creates the
safety net for me.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Good for you.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Nice congrats on that.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
You're a big dog person. Huh, you know it. How
many dogs you got? I three?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Okay, I have three dogs as well.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Can you get you do?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
What do you have? Wait?

Speaker 1 (05:35):
You have French? You have three dogs and a few kids.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yes, a few kids, a few dogs.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
I mean your house is like never quiet, no no.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
And their friends are over and the whole deal.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
So yeah, good dogs you got. I have a German Shepherd,
a German Shepherd mix and a terrier.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Okay, so I'd like Russian dolls media exactly.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Well.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Congratulations on everything, and listen everyone be sure to catch
Maggie in the new series Ballard, which is streaming right
