Speaker 1 (00:01):
With Mario a little bit, except y'all on Mario Lopez
joining me now on zoom. Actress, author and brat pack
icon Molly ring While, Welcome to the show. How you doing.
I'm good? How are you? I'm doing great? Um? Where
are you zooming from? Right now? I'm in New York
is how We Love? Is New York Home? I I
do live in New York, but actually I'm in California

(00:23):
until September working on a project. Uh. And then I
just flew in last night for uh, for all of
this press for this campaign. Yeah. Well, everyone's talking about
the COVID vaccine, You're out there talking about another vaccine.
Tell us why you've been telling everyone about meningitis. Um? Well,
I feel like meningitis is a little bit the underdog

(00:48):
deadly disease. UM. It's one that people don't really know
that much about. It's a it's a rare but deadly
disease that can claim a life in as it all
as twenty four hours um. So UM. Teenagers are especially vulnerable. UM,
they think because they're in tight spaces and dorms, they're

(01:10):
sharing water bottles, kissing um. And so the vaccine UM
is first given to kids at age eleven twelve, UM,
and then five years later they're recommending at age sixteen
they get that crucial second dose to make sure that
they are protected. Um. How do how the disease transmitted exactly?

(01:34):
And and and what are the symptoms? Well, it is
transmitted through respiratory droplets. UM, that's how. That's how it's
actually you know, goes from one person to another. UM.
And the symptoms. Um, it's really scary because it it
actually seems like it's the flu. Uh, it's headaches, Um,

(01:56):
sometimes people get a stiff neck. UM. I think the
headache is the strongest symptom. But UM, you know a
lot of people don't know anything about manage a cockle meningitis,
so they think their kid just has the flu, and
the best thing to do is, you know, put him
in bed and you know, to get better and then

(02:16):
the next thing, you know, within twenty four hours they
can be gone. So we're just trying to raise awareness
with this campaign. UM sixteen vaccine is a dot org
is the website, and we're recommending the parents go there
to UM find the answers to the questions and you know,
and also to talk to their healthcare provider about it.
Good for you to raise that awareness, awareness because that's

(02:37):
so important and I was familiar with it, but not
um to that degree. So right on. Uh, we'll put
all the info, of course up on our our website. UM.
Coming out this summer on Netflix, The Kissing Booth three.
What can you tell us about it? Um? Well, it
is a continuation of you know, the story that everyone loves. Um.

(02:59):
It's yeah, it's like it's the final installment. UM. I
don't know how much I can say about it because
I I don't want to, you know, spoil it. But UM,
I know that people are really looking forward forward to it.
I completely forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me. Okay,
I'm glad. I'm glad to keep your breast about Riverdale.
You play Archies Mom? Can you talk about that? Do

(03:20):
you think we might be seeing you again? You know possibly? Um.
I'm you know, like I said, I'm doing a project
in Los Angeles. I'm doing a limited Netflix series that
I can't talk about what it is yet. UM. But um,
but it made me unavailable to to do Riverdale. But

(03:41):
you know, who knows for the future. You never know
what's gonna have I feel like, uh, I feel like
no one, no one exactly knows what's going on with
Mary Andrews. And I think you know, I love everyone there.
I would love to come back nice. Well, it's always
good to be unavailable. Means are busy right there. This
is a fun fact. You were are to the very
early incarnation of the facts of life when there were

(04:03):
more than four girls. I actually didn't know that. That's cool.
Do you ever wonder what would have happened? How did
you stayed on? Um? I don't spend a lot of time.
Thank you that I happen to be honest, that's probably
the first time I thought about it in a while. Yeah,
I was. Um. There was a spinoff episode from there
was a serious called Different Strokes. Uh. And I was

(04:26):
in that first spinoff episode. Um. And then yeah, and
then I was in the first season. My character was
named Molly. They were incredibly inventive with the name. Um.
It was. It was fun. I got to, um, you know,
play play guitar and sing blue songs, and I was
I was a little feminist actually, look at that. Had
no idea that I would actually end up becoming such

(04:48):
a feminist in my own life. But you know, maybe
it all started with Facts of Life Ahead of the Times,
two classic shows, love them both. Um and did I
see on i G you had someone paying a mural
on your living room walls? Oh? No, um, I posted
on Instagram that was that's actually a lot of people
thought that that was my house and I wish it

(05:09):
were my house, but no, it's it's a villa that
Jean Cocteau painted for a friend of his, and I
just thought it was cool. I just sort of like,
you know, save any image that I think is sort
of interesting and cool. Yeah. Yeah, and you know, posted
on my Instagram at your house brow with that. How
are the kids? How old are they now? My eldest

(05:32):
is seventeen years old and uh and then I have
eleven year old twins. Oh nice? What do they all into? Sorry?
What are they all getting into around this age? Or mine?
Or well, my my elder daughter, Matilda is an actress. Um.
So she's very passionate about that. And she's been studying

(05:52):
and you know, practicing her saying work and you know,
so so that's really what she's passionate about. She's also
you know, going to go to college and and do
all that UM and my eleven year old UM. Roadblocks
are it's a big, big deal. I don't know, if
you know, I know more about roadblocks than I ever

(06:14):
thought that I would R O B l o X.
I definitely know about roadblocks. Hey, let me ask you
something because I got a few kids myself. When you're
your daughter, UM approached you about wanting to get into
the business. Did you try to discourage it knowing how
difficult and tough it is, or were you very supportive
or just kind of how did you handle it? I think,
like most UH actors that have grown up in the business,

(06:39):
I tried to discourage it as much as I could. UH.
And then eventually, you know, you you can't squash your
your child's dream. So I just, you know, I tried
to be as supportive as I can, and you know,
just give her the tools to, you know, make her
the best actress that she can possibly be, and then
you know, and then see what happens. It's it's a

(06:59):
hard busines this. I think she knows that from you know,
watching me and what I've gone through in my life.
I don't I think she's going into it with her
eyes open. So she's she's a tough cookie. She'll she'll
be Okay, I'm using that same approach, So okay, I
feel I feel better about that. Have they watched a
lot of your work? Because my kids won't watch me. Um,

(07:20):
My my seventeen year old has watched UM. I wouldn't
say all of my movies, but you know, she's definitely
watched the John Hughes films. UM, and that was really stressful.
And now I'm I'm sort of getting ready to do
that again with my eleven year old. But but it's
like a thousand times more stressful because my my eleven

(07:42):
year old daughter is super woke and UM a lot
of ideas. It's like way more woke than I am
even UM. So yeah, I I I And I've told
her like there, you know, there is a different time
and I have to put into context. But I know
it's gonna give me so much greece about some of
the stuff that's in the movies. I feel like we're

(08:03):
living parallel lives right now. You know, we got uh
Andrew McCarthy um coming on the show a little later
or anything I should ask him from back in the
day that might trip him out a little bit. Um, what, No,
I have to read this book. I you know. I
he he was very Um, he was really respectful and

(08:24):
sent me the the parts that you know that I
was in. He didn't have to do. But I thought
that that was really nice. Um, and then I actually
have to read the book. He's a he's a wonderful writer.
And uh yeah, give him, give him my regards, I
will do. Listen, before I let you go, I want
to put you on the spot with quick questions, quick answers. Okay, okay,

(08:45):
what are you currently watching on TV right now? Uh?
Handmaids Style? Okay, it's a song. You know all the
words too. Uh. I get along without you very well. Okay.
Celebrity Crush, Growing Up and McCarthy. Which one of your

(09:05):
eighties classics should get a reboot or a sequel? Oh?
I don't believe in reboots, so I would say I
would say none of them. But but I want people
to be inspired by them and you know, make their
own thing. But those those movies I think should stand
on their own. I agree. And last question, who plays

(09:26):
you in the Molly Ringworld biopic? I think I know
the answer. Matilda of course, right right right, She'll have
the new woke take that that's why Mario had sons him.
Later on right exactly on with Mario dot com to
learn more about Molly's involvement with the sixteen vaccine. So

(09:48):
nice speaking with you today, look forward to hopefully meeting
in person. Absolutely all right, take care of Molly than thanks, Bye,
with Mario Lopez
