if they call in within fifteen minutes, we'll get a

A few years ago during jingle Ball, right before we
had an artist, there was a little mix up on scheduling.
We needed a fill in. We called Sham Paul, who
lives in Jamaica. Yeah, literally hours before the show, and
he hopped on a plane and came.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Hey, Boston and gets love from me because they always
give me love, you know what I mean, So be
up to the entire buston. When you guys hollered at
me and told me come sing a few, I was like,
let's do this. I was actually trying to you know,
this green thumb thing where you try to plant you know,
vegetables like yeah, we called tomatoes and shore onions. I
(19:23):
was doing that in my backyard and they was like, yo,
you gotta stop doing that now. So let me get
down to get flights booked.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
And you were gardening. I was, I was gardening, yeah,
and was it really vegetable?
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Vegetable yeah, tomatoes and onions.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Yeah, yeah, that would have been anything that was I thought,
what kind of green are we talking about?

But we called him like maybe twenty four hours before
jingle Ball and he bailed us out big time, hopped
the jet and came to Boston.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah. And so Sean Paul is famous for what they're
called dub plates. Yeah, usually does it for radio stations
DJs like DJ pop dog as a bunch of them,
where it's basically a freestyle where he incorporates the DJ
name or the radio station name. So Billy was kind
of just discovering this and he asked Sean Paul backstage
at jingle Ball to do one on the spot and
he did it.

Dino, my Joe, Dina might yell and said, then we
want to play Dino my deo, Dina, my d met
Niggers Den Ma Luidnea my dadna do.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah. It was pretty good, pretty cool moment. I gotta
be honest with you. You know, we'd love to poke fun
at Billy, our fairless leader. But one of the cool
things at jingle Balls at Kiss concerts, right at least,
is these artists come backstage and they all remember Billy. Yeah,
because he's been around for so long. He's interviewed so
many people, so when they come back, they always scan
the room and they see Billy, and then it puts.

Them at ease too.

Yeah, honestly, like we're.

Just trying to have fun with them, you know, yeah, exactly,

couple of years ago. God, so we're backstage, Sabrina comes
into the interview room. You know that the camera's on on,

I'm looking at her, and she scans the room and
she locks eyes with Billy and just be lines it
over And for whatever reason, I knew something was coming,
so I turned the mics on, like, last minute, Hi.

I remember this interview I did with you backstage.

A few years ago during jingle Ball, right before we
had an artist, there was a little mix up on scheduling.
We needed a fill in. We called Sham Paul, who
lives in Jamaica. Yeah, literally hours before the show, and
he hopped on a plane and came.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Hey, Boston and gets love from me because they always
give me love, you know what I mean, So be
up to the entire buston. When you guys hollered at
me and told me come sing a few, I was like,
let's do this. I was actually trying to you know,
this green thumb thing where you try to plant you know,
vegetables like yeah, we called tomatoes and shore onions. I
(19:23):
was doing that in my backyard and they was like, yo,
you gotta stop doing that now. So let me get
down to get flights booked.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
And you were gardening. I was, I was gardening, yeah,
and was it really vegetable?
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Vegetable yeah, tomatoes and onions.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Yeah, yeah, that would have been anything that was I thought,
what kind of green are we talking about?
Speaker 12 (19:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (19:45):
But we called him like maybe twenty four hours before
jingle Ball and he bailed us out big time, hopped
the jet and came to Boston.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah. And so Sean Paul is famous for what they're
called dub plates. Yeah, usually does it for radio stations
DJs like DJ pop dog as a bunch of them,
where it's basically a freestyle where he incorporates the DJ
name or the radio station name. So Billy was kind
of just discovering this and he asked Sean Paul backstage
at jingle Ball to do one on the spot and
he did it.
Speaker 16 (20:12):
Dino, my Joe, Dina might yell and said, then we
want to play Dino my deo, Dina, my d met
Niggers Den Ma Luidnea my dadna do.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah. It was pretty good, pretty cool moment. I gotta
be honest with you. You know, we'd love to poke fun
at Billy, our fairless leader. But one of the cool
things at jingle Balls at Kiss concerts, right at least,
is these artists come backstage and they all remember Billy. Yeah,
because he's been around for so long. He's interviewed so
many people, so when they come back, they always scan
the room and they see Billy, and then it puts.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Them at ease too.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah, honestly, like we're.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Just trying to have fun with them, you know, yeah, exactly,
tell me about your.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Record, yeah, and they and they so appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah, they do. Like Sabrina was the big one a
couple of years ago. God, so we're backstage, Sabrina comes
into the interview room. You know that the camera's on on,
the MIC's aren't even on, right, So she walks and
I'm looking at her, and she scans the room and
she locks eyes with Billy and just be lines it
over And for whatever reason, I knew something was coming,
so I turned the mics on, like, last minute, Hi.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Billy, we've met before.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
How are you going to see you good?
Speaker 3 (21:16):
I remember this interview I did with you backstage.
Speaker 13 (21:19):
I don't know if it was jingle Ball, but I
was wearing a Coca Cola T shirt.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
It's a very vivid memory in my life.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Oh boy, that was our last name. I'm supposed to apologize.
Speaker 11 (21:28):
No, it was all positive.

That's why I brought it up, just like.

I just remember that interview so vividly.

And I have to say last year when we had
Tate and the kid LaRoy, oh boy, we weren't supposed
to ask about anything, and Billy went there.

He did and he got it out of him. He

Yeah, listen, if you're coming to town for jingle Ball,
the managers like, don't tell me something I shouldn't talk about,
because I I'll just feel the need to talk about

Yeah. Like Taylor on Colbert this week, you know we
were asking why did he why didn't he go into
the wedding detail and all that, And I'm like, well,
he was probably told not to. Billy would have been

we raise money to end childhood cancer.

I'm not sure what the total is so far today.

the overall childhood cancer survival rate from twenty percent to
over eighty percent today, so incredible. Yeah, we're not just

a children's hospital. We're also a research center, so we
share our research freely with hospitals all over so it's
such a special place. Yeah, we shared the hospitals in
Boston and.

Barber All the hospitals here are using it.

A little behind the scenes. Okay, when you Emily mentioned
the name Danny Thomas, yes, automatically, it looked at me like, yeah, Billy,
you remember Danny Thomas. That was amazing. Okay, it so happens.
I do remember the Danny Thomas shell. Wow, that was
like automatic.

It does cost one point eight million to keep Saint
Jude running daily, so one point eight million daily, but
no family ever receives a bill. So anyone that's walking
into Saint Jude right now never receives a medical bill.
There's actually no billion department at Saint Jude. So all
these families, like the travel, the housing, the treatment, all

free it's extraordinary. So that's why we do these radiothons,
and it's just the more important.
