Speaker 1 (00:00):
What do you know it's about Billy Coss everybody off.
Knock it off. Thank you all for coming down on
behalf of Joseph. Your mom would love it up there.
If I said Joseph, his mom used to yell at
me all the time, it's Joseph.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
But anyway, how you doing Bud by the way, I'm Billy.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Lisa's here from the Morning show, Lisa Donovan justin from
the Morning Show, when he's here from the wall, and
we're all.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Here for you.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Thank you. I know I don't take that lightly.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well. I appreciate that you got up so early and
came onto the show this.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Thank you. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah you feel like you want to sit down?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yes, yeah, would have been nice.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
No, I'm kidding.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Knock it off, blockheads, uh so solo album, congratulations.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
These guys have been very very supportive, very kind, and
by now they know it was important to me to
make another album, and I'm happy with it personally. I mean,
that's the first step of doing that, and so I'm
excited to share it and starting off my first in
store for the for this album. Listen, take you guys
(01:11):
about yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
The New Beest.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, did you always know you wanted to do one
at some point.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, I think the New Kids just released a new
album last year, and Sean and I this is Sean Thomas.
Everybody we wrote we were we were lucky enough to
wrote write like half that album, so we were already
in the in the studio. So I think that was
you know, feeding the beast, so to speak. And I
was been doing a lot of solo dates, so I've
(01:40):
kind of like been in that lane. And but the
commitment to do it is, you know, you really got
to put the time in. And I'm glad we did.
And and yeah, I'm happy with it.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
The first single, Freedom, I really like it, don't we
like it? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Uh, but on the show this morning, you told a
really good story about the lyrics and the story before.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Well yeah, Well, the the cool thing is is I
think I've been sharing about autonomy. Obviously, I'm lucky enough
to be a part of this amazing, magical journey called
Nukids on the Block with the greatest fans in the world,
and and you know, but autonomy is important too, and
I and I hope that people can relate whether it's
(02:24):
lucky enough to be with a great job for a
long time, or family.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
You know, these things are so important.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Community is important, but to carve your own path, I think,
and have your own time is really important too. And
so you know, sometimes it gets a little bit more explicit.
On the album, I was having fun with the lyrics
You're you're speaking to well it started because for some reason,
Billy didn't recognize the song step by step, My.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
God, let him let that down. We'll never let him
live that down.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
He might he might this, he might lose the six
new kid Moniker.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
For a little while. We might restore it, take it.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
You know, it's like.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
There's another kiss one away guy from that's in Toronto now,
but we won't. Yeah, kid David, you know, even had
kid in his name anyways. So anyway, so instead of
on freedom, you know, step one, this isn't any fun.
I'm two steps from the door. Close your eyes and
counter three open up.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
You won't see me.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Step four, I cannot give you more because then step
by step, step four, I can give you more.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I'm saying step four.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I can't get it. I knew it was. I gotta
step now.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
A lot of a lot of people, a lot of
souls in this building.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
That's the last thing they want to hear from me
or anybody else.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
So some of them just kind of block their ears,
and uh, some of it it might be more interesting
to others.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
The good news is that I get to.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Share all those feelings without hiding them, you know what
I mean. The New Kids and you know, Donnie in particular,
we've been talking about it a lot, so it's not
a secret.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
I think that's part.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
You know. I think the fact that I can do
that only strengthens my you know, faith in my journey
with the New Kids. I mean, they balance each other,
so it's but it was fun to go there because
lots of times as a songwriter, you know, it's hard
to open up.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
And be honest.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
But I felt like I finally got to a place
where I could could talk about that stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well we know about freedom. Are there any collabse on
the on the album?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
No, I don't.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
I don't like a couple of I want it all
to myself.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I mean really, Sean and I wrote the whole album ourselves,
and we were like two guys, you know, in the studio,
and I think there's there's a there's a purity to
that I think, and and to write the lyrics myself,
it just makes it more personal. I'm all for collaborating,
and I've done that throughout my career, but this time
I kind of wanted to say it myself. And you know,
(04:56):
this guy can play everything under the sun and produce
like the best of them.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
So I was lucky to have that partner.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Lyrically, I was able to kind of, you know, say
what I wanted to say, which.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Is cool without getting specific. I know that your boy
Griffin is a musician. Yes, yes, I think he plays
a couple of different instruments. Yeah, yeah, he's was he
involved with you at all in the struy.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
He's always coming in and out.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
I mean he's he's uh wee. He keeps it real
with me. He's like, you know, but he's very he's
very inspiring. To wake up every day and see a
kid at the piano or at the guitar and taking
lessons and going to dance class and doing all, you know,
all the things that it takes to be a great
(05:42):
artist or someone that can kind of have a swallowed
foundation was very important to me.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
And he's a very talented kid has.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
His own path as much as we're in the same
you know field, so to speak. I'm still his dad.
So it's like in one ear out the other, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Well, it depends on the age. Yeah, you know, for
years you're their hero.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, and then all of a sudden it's like, well
do you know dadd Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
You know what I'm talking about? You out there.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Pretty much pretty much.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
So I'm happy that he continues to do the work,
because that's all you can lean back on is the
time you put into something. And he's he's in great shape.
I mean, he's only seventeen, so he's got a long
way to go.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Do you ever have warnings for him what to look
out for if he's pursuing something more in the business,
so to speak?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Pretty good about that, because you don't want to rain
on somebody's parade, you know. I think we all have
to find out, you know, learn on our own.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
And it's weird.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
It's a weird place to be as a parent because
you want to tell them everything, but as we know,
you know, they have to learn on their own, and
I think just being present and listening as much as possible,
I think it's the best bet. But I also have
to to, you know, put the trash out, you know
what I mean? And does he's just I have to
(07:05):
ask him eighteen times? Him and his brother. Yeah, God
forbid you.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
You also made a big announcement on the Billy and
Lisa Morning Show.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yes, yes, uh.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And we can say it here now right, I mean
we said it on the air, which means the world
is listening.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yes, yes, in Boston, Yes, House of Blues, House of
bl Yes. So I'm an I guess so the cats
out the bag. But I'm supposed to. I'm gonna be
announcing tomorrow all the dates you know, of the first
phase of the Freedom Tour. But yeah, I thought, how
can I, you know, not be on Guss want to
(07:41):
wait and not announce my House.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Of Blues date, which is I am the sixth Blue Kid.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
That's right April twenty fifth. And yeah, I mean that
sure about this date.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Listen. It's easy when you have four of the guys,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
You got some support, you know, Yeah, you could sell
out Fenway Park, you know what I mean. Outs of
Blues is roomy, So tell your as a family. That's
why I needed to you know, that day.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, Thursday morning Thursday, and who gets the free sale like.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Couple.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah, I mean there's mailing lists, there's uh, we're gonna
do it through bands in town, so I'm sure the
right people will find out from the beginning and and
then the onst the you know, full on sale is
the next day on Friday, and yeah, we'll have some
time to plan and that's uh most of April.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Is it going to be scary getting out there alone?
Speaker 3 (08:36):
He doesn't. He doesn't know me very well, does he.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Yeah? No, I as I said today on the show,
I mean, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I've never been a spotlight.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
I didn't like you know what I mean, So that yeah,
I think, you know, but it's it's a balance. I
think if you're not uncomfortable and not a little scared,
you're really not growing, you know, I'm you know, even
coming here and starting this sort of promotion side of
making an album. You know, you have a lot of feelings,
(09:06):
you know what I mean, and it and you just
try to stay in the moment and show up even
with all this love and support and with people that
don't know me since I was a little kid.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
It's you know, you're still just gotta take.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
It moment to moment and count your blessings and hope
for the best.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
How are you going to mix up your solo tour
with rehearsals for a Vegas residency?
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Everything else you got going on? Well, Vegas.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Everybody's yeah, I think you know, we've been we've been
really starting to ramp up and talk about, you know,
the design and the look for the show. And I'll
see Donnie tomorrow and we'll check in about that. And
it's very very exciting. I mean, it looks gorgeous. I
mean we're someone's trying to get in, someone's trying to
(09:50):
get in over here, Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Somebody's being very aggressive.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
No, it's it's gonna be hard to like keep all
the secrets because what we're seeing already for Vegas is
very very exciting and it's going to be a blast.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I mean, it's something we haven't done yet Vegas.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
And by the way, all everybody tells me, especially the
new kids, I say Vegas the wrong way.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I think I say I say bagel instead of bagle.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
You're supposed to say baggling. It's bagel.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
It's okay, No, I say bagel, sorry, instead of bagel,
And I say, I say bag get a bag instead
of a bag. And so I say, I say, I say,
I say Vegas. How do you say Vegas? Vegas?
Speaker 3 (10:34):
What do you think I say bagas?
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I think I say bagas wrong, whatever it is, I
say it wrong.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
So I was trying to check myself.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Okay, So the pre sale Thursday, the on sale Friday.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
House of Blues April twenty fifth, thank you.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Who's going to the House of Blues Ape now fifth,
twenty fifth?
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yeah yeah. The Friday Friday Reunion, the Friday Yeah,
