Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, it is the after show. Hi, everybody, justin here
on a gray, rainy, not snowy day. It is not
snowing here in Medford. All this big snowstorm that was
hyped and teased. I don't know if it's coming when
it's coming. I mean, it's just after ten am here
and there's nothing. But they did cancel my son's school,
which is not fun for me because I get to

(00:20):
go home and put up with him for the whole day.
I love him, but he's annoying, especially because he needs
constant activity. There's no being bored. I had this conversation
with him last night and I'm like, dude, I was
a kid once too, and I was bored as well.
It's okay to be bored. Not to mention. You have
an Xbox, an iPad, a virtual reality headset, you have

(00:43):
a messenger to talk to your friends. You have enough.
Some kids have nothing. I'm telling you these kids. Anyway,
I'm here and I have a special guest in the
building and her name is now do you want to
be called Ashley or aj hold on? Oh? Sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Unfortunately, calling myself Ashley is too confusing because people will
think it's Ashley Filman. Yes, you know, unfortunately I am
not her, and I don't want people to think my
crazy self boring self is her.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
I wouldn't say boring, and I wouldn't say crazy at all.
Your name is Ashley Janino, Yes, also known as aj AJ,
works down on the jam In Morning Show along with
Santy and Ashley. She does probably pretty much what I
do for the show, and the reason why I brought
you on, AJ is because we go way back.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
We go really way back.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Like okay, we're gonna start at the beginning and go
through this. So it really is amazing if you think
about it, because we started around the same time as interns.
You before me, I think about a year or less
before you, and then we're still here after all this time.
That's crazy. So I guess let's just start there because

(02:00):
I like bringing on people that have a part in
what I do in my career. So obviously at Ashley
on and Santy and you were like next, that's like,
well she had a huge part in my career, like
I was with you before. Ashley Feldman, you know, yeah, okay,
so let's start with this.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
You are from I grew up in North Reading. I
currently live in Tewksbury.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Oh, Twksbury. I spent some time in Tewksbury.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
They do well.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
The Tewksbury Hospital. Oh yeah, they had a detox there.
I think it's gone. And then they had a holding program,
so you would go into the detox for a week
and then into the holding where they would hold you
to get into a program.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Oh yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
You spent a little time in Tukesbury, a lot of
a lot of time there. And then they have the hospital.
I never was in the hospital. But do you live
in near the hospital?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Uh, it's not far, not super close. I'm more on
like the Lowell line.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Oh excuse me, excuse me, no, but there's different.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Tewksbury is huge, by the way, it's really big. It
takes me like twenty minutes to get from one side
to the other.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
It's insane.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Well, if you think about it, I'm more familiar with
off of Daskum Road, so ninety three, So when you
get off in Daskum Road, there's another whole side to
tuk SPERI.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, right, huge. I can't believe it.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Okay, but you grew up in North Riting, yep, and
I know that you grew up listening to the radio
like I did. Our stories are very very similar. Yeah,
you grew up listening mostly to Jamin but Kiss two probably.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Oh absolutely, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I mean I listened to Kiss and Jammin and you know,
I was into all those stations, and at fourteen, like
that's when I decided radio is what I want to do.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
I was very I always wanted to be involved with music.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
And at that age, I think I realized, like, I'm
not talented.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
I can't play an instrument.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
I can't sing, which is what I want to do,
but my singing voice sucks. So I was like, oh,
they're having so much fun on the radio.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
That's what I want to do.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Yeah, and you grew up listening to Romero, Baltazar, Ramiro
and Pebbles Marron Pebbles. Yeah, that was the same for
me and Santi who was crazy Kulo And I remember
you told me a story about meeting Santy crazy cuop
Low in a supermarket. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
So I worked at Stoppin Shop in North Reading while
I was in high school. And I was at the
register one day scanning groceries and this guy walked by
and I'm like, oh my god, you're crazy kool oh
and he was like really taken back, and he was
with a woman, which is I now know is his wife, Joanne,
And so I would see him every so often because
he lived in my town. I had no idea and

(04:24):
I told him this was I was like sixteen at
the time, and I was like, I want to work
for you, like I want an internship. And at that point,
like I was way too young to get an internship.
But fast forward to when I was a junior in college,
I started applying to internships and he was the one
who interviewed me for my internship with Jammin.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, me too, And when was that? That was twenty
ten or eleven?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
I started in the summer of twenty ten.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yes, okay, so you would all right? So I started
as an intern in twenty eleven May. Okay, so you
had already been there almost a year. Yeah, okay. So
you went to Lacelle.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Lasseell College in Newton.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Are you endorsed by them? Should be trying to Yeah,
you should be.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
We're a record on it.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yeah. I got at school. I got in the investment
for Northern Essex where I started, and then I was
the convention speaker there. Oh that's amazing, pretty pretty cool. Okay,
So you get hired as an intern at jam and
you get interviewed by Santi as did I you start
on the Romero show. Now it's Romero Pebbles and Melissa
and Santi's the executive producer, and so you start on

(05:26):
the production side of it. Did you know anything about production?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
I did know a little bit because from going to school,
I took a couple of radio classes and we had
a radio station in the school, in the college that
I went to, so I did have some experience with
audio editing and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
So I had a little bit.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
But this kind of like being here for an internship
helped fine tune those things that I learned.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
And who trained you?

Speaker 3 (05:51):
His name was just.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Lou, Just Lou.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
I don't know if you ever met him.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I think he's in California now I don't have touch
with him, but I think Santi still follow.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Was he an intern?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:02):
He was an intern? Yeah, oh wow. Yeah. When I
when I when I came in, you were the first
person that I would have trained me. And then there
was Jewels Jewis Flavor, who's still hair on jammin Ye
for us yeah, we would alternate days because you know
in school, you did like the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, I
mean Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday Thursday. And so I

(06:24):
get hired. I've told the story before about how Santy
hired me and I was super nervous and stuff, but
he gave me a shot. So I remember that first day.
You'll have no recollection of this. I've told this story
many times in the podcast, but to be honest, if
you remember this, So the first morning I came in,
you know, you get up super early, you come into
the show. I got here at five. You were here
or in our little production studio, and you're showing me

(06:45):
everything you do and I don't know anything, like literally,
I just came home on parole, you know, like I
have no experience with anything, and you're showing me everything.
And then it leads up to the show. And then
at like six am or six', ten the music starts
for the, show the rap song for, marriage the. Intro,
yeah AND i think it was acrobatic at the. Time. Maybe. Yeah,

(07:09):
anyway the music started and it's kind of a long,
song and ask the music, Playing i'm just LIKE i
had this wave of, emotion AND i just got super
emotional thinking about like WHERE i was and WHERE i,
Am like this is really, happening AND i started to, like, well, up,
Okay and OBVIOUSLY i couldn't let this chick who's LIKE
i just met, No SO i started doing this thing

(07:31):
WHERE i. Yawned SO i started Yawning i'm so, tired
AND i remember you looked at me and you, go
are you? Okay AND i was, like, Yeah i'm just so.
Tired oh my, god my eyes are, Watering i'm so.
Tired BUT i was really. Crying.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
YEAH i don't remember that at, all BUT i think
that if you were honest about how much this meant to,
YOU i THINK i probably would have respected that and
been LIKE i get.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
It. Yeah. Yeah so some of the THINGS i remember
about those early days were about with you IS dj
Pop dog was so big on on taking, notes, like, oh, yeah,
huge because you're doing so many things and you're not gonna,
Remember you're gonna, forget and so he would have us take.
Notes AND i know that you had a ton of,

(08:11):
notes and you taught me about. That and one of
the first THINGS i ever remember about you was how
you were, efficient meaning like you had your work and
you made sure to do it efficiently and get all
your work, done and you had your. Notes and that's
kind of the first thing THAT i, learned you, know
is like don't, slip like write it down so you have.

(08:32):
It go buy your notes and get the work.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Done, Oh i'm so HONORED i taught that to.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
You, True, yeah it's. True.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
YEAH i actually still have that notebook somewhere. Really, yeah
it's like it's like put in my, closet like somewhere,
buried but, YEAH i still have. IT i remember the
front of the notebook said shoot for the moon because
even if you, fall you'll land among the.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Stars.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Wow that's a good. One, yeah that's a good. One so,
yeah that's where our journey started. Together and then obviously
it's so many changes in. Radio there's just always so
many changes that we've been. Through but then The romero
Or pebbles And melissa, went and Then ashley, comes the show,
changes Then romero, Leaves santy gets. Fired then is The

(09:11):
frankie And Ashley, show which we're both working on as.
Producers then that show gets, canned and then BUT i,
really you, know through all the, changes and then Now
obviously you're With ashley on that, show And i'm With
billy And. Lisa through all of, That you've been BASICALLY
Dj Pup dogs like right. Hand.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
YEAH i have worked very closely With pup since BASICALLY
i started as an, intern And i've learned a lot from, him,
HONESTLY i, Mean i've learned a lot from. Everyone like you,
said it's been a crazy, ride but, Yeah pup is
somebody who has really taken me under his, wing and,
uh he literally calls me his right hand.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Man oh, woman, yeah, Woman, yeah you know WHAT i.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Mean, yeah, yeah, no, NO i, KNOW i. Know, well
the thing about that is you a lot of people
might not know that when you listen To jammin the
staff is very. SMALL i mean obviously of the morning,
show but as far as the entire, staff it's very,
small and that THAT aj is really a driving force
behind what you're hearing every. Day you And, pop but
you're Helping pup And pop obviously has a lot of,

(10:14):
responsibilities not just In boston but also nationally, Too SO
i JUST i, mean you've been doing that for so,
long Helping.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Pop, yeah AND i, think you, know we just kind
of work well.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
TOGETHER i think obviously through the, Years i've just kind
of learned how he, operates AND i kind of work
with that for.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Him yeah and.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah at this, point like, Again i've been here for fifteen,
years so it's everything that we're doing is LIKE i
JUST i know it at like the back of my
hand at this.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Point so, yeah, together we just we get it.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Done you're kind of like To pop WHAT i am
To billy if you think about.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
It, yeah that makes, sense you.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Know, Yeah LIKE i know exactly What billy. Needs every.
MORNING i provide him EVERYTHING i, know all, yes, YES
i know his credit got.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Info oh my, GOD i don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
That oh my. GOD i just he had to buy
jingle ball tickets for like some people or. Whatever he
gets Jingle ball, tickets but he needed more by the,
yeah and he has to buy them for certain. People, Anyway,
well he gets like ten free pairs obviously because He's,
billy but like he needs, twenty you, know so he
has to buy the other. Ten SO i had to
help him buy the tickets just. Now and he gives

(11:19):
me his credit. CARD i put it in and it's,
like do you want to save this credit card on
your on? File And i'm like, no you, know AND
i think in my, Head i'm, LIKE i could rob
this dude so quick and he would have no, idea you,
know because he doesn't check his. Statements he says that
all the. Time. Wow, yeah he's a. Mush it's just
what it. Is but, yeah so you're to pop WHAT
i am To. Billy that's basically what it. Is. Okay

(11:39):
so there's been some changes recently with you as far
as like your career in a good. Way first of,
all a lot of the last fifteen years you've spent
behind the. Scenes, yep like not on the air something
you would pop on the, air but that now you're
on the air On.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
JAMMIN i have my own.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Shift, yeah and what's the?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Shift So i'm Doing middays ten am to three pm
on jamm in ninety four?

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Five oh my, god did you always want? That?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
YES i actually got into radio to be an on air,
personality and THEN i got here AND i just focus
on everything but, THAT i don't, know everything else just
kind of like took my attention away from, that and
that really wasn't at the, forefront and then well it
wasn't a ton of availability also, true but you, know

(12:29):
just it wasn't really a focus of mine, anymore and
for some, reason over the past couple of years or,
so it's something THAT i decided to start working towards.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Again and then over the, summer you, know things. Happened.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Drina she decided to step down from her position At,
jamming AND i was lucky enough to go in her.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Spot so ten to three every weekday and.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Then weekends, Too i'll fill in here and.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
There so this coming WEEKEND i will be On saturday
to fill in For jess she needed the day, off
but typically Just monday Through.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Friday Who's jesse C she's one over our weekend.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Jocks oh, okay, okay all, right well that's. Good you
having fun at you sound? Great?

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah, oh thank. YOU i appreciate THAT i am having.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Fun it's very, different you, know BECAUSE i had a
lot More like you, Said i'm not always on, air
but WHEN i was on, air it was with the morning,
Show so it was kind of different because it was
a conversation kind of a little bit more long, winded
where this is like you have ten seconds talk about
the contest that's coming up right, right you, know how
do you make that exciting in ten.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Seconds it's actually. Harder it is very harder than doing
it very.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Hard there's so many times Where i've been, LIKE i
want to say, something but it ends up being like
twenty seconds as opposed to the time THAT i want
it to.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Be so it's been a little bit of a, challenge
but it's been a lot of. Fun.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Wow so every, day so you do the morning show
and then you're on ten to three After, yeah that's.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Crazy So i'm just here all the.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Time, yeah and you're on the morning show. Too, yeah
various times they'll put you on if you have something going.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
On, yeah like today we talked about HOW i got
banned from match before even using, it but then they
let me on AND i got a really weird message from.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Somebody oh, really well that's the other thing that we
have to. Discuss oh, boy yeah it. Is AND i
don't know how this. HAPPENED i attributed to my Friend.
Zeb my Friend, zeb, yeah my best. Friend, yes you.
Know he had been doing social media for a, while you,
know not really anything, crazy and then like out of,
nowhere he had all these followers and his videos really

(14:29):
like took. Over AND i feel like that happened with,
You like you started posting content because you're.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Single you're in the dating, world SO i post a
lot of dating.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Content, yeah but that's how it, started as you posting
just different you, know things that happened to you on
dates or you, know weird guys that hit you. Up
but it's like really, Exploded like you have more followers than,
me you know then.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Wild So santy From jammin is someone who really encouraged
me to start. POSTING i remember having a conversation with
him and he's, like just like you could go, viral
like this could, happen that could, happen AND i was, like,
no like that's never gonna. Happen and he'll bring that
up today and be LIKE i told. You i'm, like,
okay you.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Want to tell the. PEOPLE i don't know if this still,
stands but you want to tell the after show what
your most viral video is or?

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Was oh do you know the answer to?

Speaker 1 (15:19):
THIS i think so it's the one where you're putting in.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
The, NO i actually have one that got more of.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
You so, okay, wait so the first one That i'm talking.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
About, Yeah SO i have one video On.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Instagram it has four point five million views and all
it is is me Saying i'm thirty six and.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Single that's. It that's the post.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Four point five, million, yes. Insane and then what about
the other?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
One the next one after that Is, yeah it's one
Where i'm putting.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
My retator in has, millions, Right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
That one has like three point two or something like.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
That social media is so. Weird it is.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
The weirdest thing because it's either of those.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
VIDEOS i never would have, guessed, no would get like
even a, million you know WHAT i.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Mean it's always the videos that you put no effort into.
Too you can do these like, elaborate well thought out
videos and they'll do, Okay but then simple ones like that.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Explode, yeah when you're throw something up and, it, yeah
it goes.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Crazy. Yeah The internet is a wild.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Place it really. Is it really. Is so now you've
become this like kind of online you're in the. Algorithms,
yeah especially with, dating because that's what everybody is talking,
about you, know is the dating? World how hard it?
Is you? Know so you pop up on mind OBVIOUSLY
i follow, you BUT i see you on my explore pase.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Especially you're like there she is?

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Again yeah, yeah, Yeah SO i mean that begs the,
question how is the dating life these?

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Days SO i kind of took a step back, BECAUSE i,
mean to be, blunt dating is just, terrible to the
point THAT i couldn't even get myself to go out
on dates.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Anymore SO i kind of.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
STOPPED i Think i'm going to try to get back into,
it but it's the dating apps that is really trash
and makes my life a living.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Hell LIKE i would like to find, someone but dating
is just not.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
Fun have you Tried facebook? DATING i sure have no
Good my friend is cleaning up On facebook. Date. Really.
Yeah so we did a segment on it on the
on the on The on The Morning, show and it
exploded people like really Into facebook.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Dating So facebook dating is WHERE i found the last
guy THAT i, dated AND i really really liked, him
and we went on seven dates AND i definitely saw
myself falling for, him and THEN i found out that
he was lying to me and he had a girlfriend
of ten.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Years, Right, yeah so you know there's. That, yeah BUT
i mean that's that's that could happen on any of the.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Apps, YEAH i wouldn't Blame facebook dating on. That by the,
way did you confront him on?

Speaker 2 (17:44):
That? Oh? Absolutely what you say He SO i found
out at like eleven. Pm so the next, morning at
like six, Am i'm, like we need to. Talk we
got on the phone AND i said are YOU i
asked him if he had a, girlfriend and he's, like,
WELL i am dating someone. Else AND i was, like
there's a big difference between being in a relationship and.

(18:06):
Dating and he's, like, well it's been off and on and,
Yeah i'm pretty Sure i'm.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Going to be with. Her seven Dates you went on
with him seven?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Dates, yeah over the course of maybe like two.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Months, yeah it's, rough, man it's. Rough one of the
issues with dating apps is that they're so, accessible especially
when you're a, man, right is, like think about. It
you go on, there you can match with. Whoever there's
like endless options for women to you, know the endless,
options AND i think some people just want more and
more and.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
More, Yeah and that's one of my biggest complaints with the,
apps Because i'll get a match And i'll be really
excited And i'm not afraid to like start the conversation,
first So i'll reach out and, maybe you, know say,
hey how's your day, going something simple and nothing, crazy
and they just don't respond And i'm, like why did you?

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Match if we're not even going to, speak what is the?

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Point, right so frustrating has your have you matched with
somebody or talk to somebody on a dating app that
has seen Your.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Instagram i've actually had a couple of people, like send
me a like and they'll send a message with it
and they're, like, oh, Like i've seen your.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Videos, hah don't do one about. Me oh, yeah, yeah
so that's kind of that's.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Weird, yeah because some of your, videos a lot of
your videos have a lot of. Hits. YEAH i also
noticed that on some of the, videos the common section
is quite the place with these, men especially On, facebook
AND i notice it's a lot of older. Men. Yes,
Yeah so what's happening, IS i, think is you're you're
getting into The facebook algorithm and it's popping up for. People.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
YEAH i never would have realized that so many grandpas
would have dating at their.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Algorithm but they, yeah they get my. VIDEOS i mean
they trash.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Me, yeah but you respond, Back.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Oh, absolutely because people tell me.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Don't But i'm, like at the end of the, day
they're gonna respond, back so that that's gonna help my.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Engagement So i'm Like i'm using.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Them it's very. True, yeah although what you're not doing
isn't rage. Baiting but that's the word of the year
is rage. Bating and that's what people, do is they
put up posts that are gonna anger people to get.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
