Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Hello, Hello, it is the After Show. What up, guys?
Justin here.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It is a Monday, December one, after a long Thanksgiving weekend.
December one, Whinnie's birthday. Happy birthday to Winnie. I'll always
remember December first as her birthday. Hope she is doing well.
I haven't spoken to her recently. I know her podcast
dropped today, so shout out to her and happy birthday.

(00:23):
I remember December first, it is her birthday. And then
Gandhi who used to wear a car, and Taylor Swift
have the same birthday. I always mess this up. December
tenth or twelfth, Oh my god, I can't believe it.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I think it's.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
December tenth anyway, or twelfth, I don't know. But December birthdays,
and then Billy's birthday, of.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Course is Christmas Eve.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
So yeah, I'm here. I'm checking in. I had a
great Thanksgiving weekend. I eat a lot of food, I
watched a lot.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Of stranger things. I had fun, I let loose. It
was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
A lot of family time, which you know isn't always
the most fun when you have children, but you know
you love the little buggers.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
We will get turkey toss. We already talked about that.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
On Wednesday, and then Thanksgiving we went to my wife's
family's house in bill Ricker, her Auntie Lisa and Uncle Louis.
That was great watching football. My dad came and the
food was amazing. I brought that Ginger Betty's basket that
listener Shannon sent. That was a big hit. And by
the way, the cookies are fantastic. We brought the basket there,

(01:27):
shared some of the cookies, then brought some home and
I still have more at the house which I have
to lay off from. But that was good on Thanksgiving.
On Friday, I worked out in the morning. My gym,
one of my gyms that I go to drive in Salem,
New Hampshire, had a kid's fitness class. I brought my
son there. He got to go around the gym and
you work out a little bit. He's been showing some

(01:48):
interest in working out, so that was good. And then
Friday night we went to the Christmas Lights in Lichfield,
New Hampshire. I didn't even know this place existed. It's
where they have Spooky World every year, which I've been to.
But it's really really cool. It's a it's a mile
walkthrough very very elaborate. It's on the same path that
the hay Ride at Spooky World goes through, you know,

(02:09):
the Haunted hay hay Ride, and you know, they have
a lot of good photo ops and really elaborate Christmas lights.
It was so cold, but it was really good. It
was really it was really fun. I'm glad we went.
I posted a picture on my Instagram of my wife
and I and in one of the places.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
But it was good. It was good. And then what
do I do Saturday? Saturday?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
My wife took the kids to the parade, so I
got to go to the gym for a while, and
then uh, I had some barbecue Saturday night and Sunday
we just relaxed and chilled out. So it was all
in all a good weekend. You know, we're going into
the holidays. It's it's crazy time here at work, it's
crazy time at home. It's just busy, man, it's busy.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
But you know, I'm.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Super grateful, you know, I put I posted that, you know,
set of pictures on Instagram because every Thanksgiving I always
share about this. I used to go to a recovery
meeting every Wednesday before Thanksgiving for years and years and years.
It didn't happen anymore, but it was a tradition that
you know, me and my friends all went to and
I would share that story every single year that you know,

(03:12):
I remember, like many holidays were ruined because of the
stuff that I was doing. A lot of them spent
in jail, a lot of them spent in programs, a
lot of them spent on the street. But like one
Thanksgiving in particular, you know, I had a restraining order
at my house.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I wasn't allowed there.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
You know, my dad had had tried everything, but I
had you know, stolen and done so much damage that
he had to file like a report, and so I
wasn't allowed by law to go to my house. But
my grandfather I would like, I would go there and
he would sneak me things. He would sneak me money,
or he would sneak me like food or whatever. And
before Thanksgiving, like the day or two before, I think,

(03:49):
he gave me some money and he said, come back
on Thanksgiving and go through the basement and I'll lead
a play. Leave a plate of food at the top
of the stairs. And so that's what I did. I
busted into the basement and I went up and I
collected my plate of food and went downstairs and I
was eating it, and my whole family was upstairs enjoying Thanksgiving.
And you know, in the recovery like literature they talk about,

(04:10):
you know, addiction, you reach animalistic levels. And I felt
like that. I felt like an animal, like I wasn't
allowed upstairs. I'm downstairs in the dungey ass basement eating
my Thanksgiving mail. It was just awful. So I think
about every Thanksgiving and it just makes me, you know,
that much more grateful to be there for my family,
and you know, grateful that I built this life, which

(04:32):
you know, all starts with a day clean.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Man, That's what it starts with. You know.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
It's it's a simple, yet it's so effective thing, right,
no matter how long I've been and clean. And this
is for people that are in recovery, or for people
that aren't in recovery that don't really understand it. It's
a one day at a time commitment for life.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Right. It's an incurable disease.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
So every day I wake up and I make a
decision of what I want to do, you know, and
there's all these this work that goes into it, you know,
like having people around you that love and support you,
having other people that suffer with the same disease, doing
things like praying or meditating, and writing and reaching out
to people and talking about how you feel. All these
things are all part of the formula to staying clean.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
And these are things that I do.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
You know, to this day, you know, pretty much all
the people in my life are in recovery. And by
the way, my wife celebrated eighteen years on November twenty seventh,
which was also insane, insane. I remember I we had
just started seeing each other and she relapsed. And you
know the history of our relationship, you know, we go

(05:36):
we met when we were teenagers and there was a
connection there and then we went our separate ways.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
And I've told that story before.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
But when we reconnected, we had started dating a little
bit and talking to each other, and she had relapsed,
and you know, she came to me and she's.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Like, I need to go get help.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
And I dropped her off at Danvers Detox and she
went there for a week, and then I picked her
up after her and brought her home. I remember she
drew these drawings, like these lovey dovey drawings for me
while she was in there, and that was November twenty seventh.
I believe I dropped her off on the day. Maybe
it was the twenty sixth actually, because she might have

(06:12):
used that day eighteen years ago, you know, So that's uh.
She always puts up a really like impactful post on
that because for both of us, for anybody that's in recovery,
you know, from alcoholism or addiction, it's important. You know,
the date's important, and it's important to never forget you
know where you come from and where you can go

(06:33):
back to. You know, I learned that early on, like
in recovery. You know, even when I've stayed clean for
you know, a year, two five years, you know, there
were people that had many, many years, decades clean that
would relapse. You know, people that I look up to.
I'll give you one particular example. There was a gentleman
who helped me so much to get clean. He taught

(06:54):
me so much about adulthood. He was the one that
helped me get a bank account. How you know, he
had gotten clean, he had bought a house, he had
a house, and you know, in the city that I
lived in. He was just a really great guy, soft spoken,
but you could tell he was like a street guy,
but that was, you know, kind of like the old life.
And you know, over time, you know, he kind of

(07:14):
like fell off a little bit and then he relapsed,
and I don't know whatever happened to him, but I
did see him after he relapsed. He got arrested, he
was in jail, and he got out. I'll never forget
the last one. Last time I saw him. He walked
into this recovery meeting that I was in. It was
the middle of winter, and he was homeless, and I'm like, dude,
I'll bring you somewhere right now, like we'll get you

(07:36):
in somewhere. I'll bring you to the hospital, I'll get
you into detox, like you don't have to live on
the street. And just the way that he was talking,
I it was like I didn't know this guy. Like
he was all talking kind of like street when he
wasn't before, you know, drop, it was just insane.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
I was like, who is this guy?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
And he didn't want the help man, And so I
walked outside with him and I'm like pleading with him.
I'm like, bro, come on, like let's go, like get
in the you don't have to do this. Anymore like
I'll help you. I'll be there for you. You were
there for me and the power of this disease.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
You know.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
He walked away, He said, now I'm good, and he
walked away with his fucking little bag into the cold.
It was probably about ten degrees and he had no
place to go. Just really heartbreaking, heartbreaking stuff. But it
makes me grateful.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
It makes me.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Grateful that I got it, and then I continued to
get it one day at a time, and and I
get to enjoy these Thanksgiving holidays my family. It's it's
it's really uh, it's really special. So I hope it
was great for all of you. I hope you enjoyed.
You can always join the after show. You can leave
a talk back about anything that I share about I'm
always talking about different things. You can leave a talk

(08:41):
back and I will get to it later on. Obviously
it's not live.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Justin I am listening to the after show. It's Wednesday,
and I cannot believe you've only seen one toy story.
Please please please watch that with your kids. That it
is so great.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
It's it's so great. Think number three is probably my favorite,
but it's really really great. I don't know, maybe you
have a different feeling now that you have kids and
your son's overstaf. I'll watch it with Gemma. I think
I've only seen one. She's getting to the age where
she's starting to watch shows. I know she watches the
K Pop Demon Hunters a little bit, but she likes

(09:20):
just the music more. But she's getting to that age
where she is gonna watch movies. So obviously Stranger Things.
I loved. My son and I watched it. We turned
it on eight o'clock on Wednesday, waited all day for it.
Netflix crash took like thirty minutes to get it to
work again, which was insane. But love, love, love love,

(09:40):
love the new season, Love the four episodes, love the
twists at the end, all the everything.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
I don't want to give anything away, but it's just
a fantastic show. So we're looking forward to Christmas. I'm
sure my son will watch these ones over and over again.
But anyway, I'm back this week. Nurse Fiona is coming
in on Thursday. I'm going to see her tomorrow, so
we should do this with Whinnie was here because Winnie
and I both work with Nurse Fiona. Winnie more so

(10:08):
because she did all like the you know stuff, other
stuff I did, laser hair removal. I got some bowtox
from her. But I'm going tomorrow hopefully with the weather
with my wife, We're gonna do like a couple's day there.
It's actually really cool. So she'll be in on Thursday.
So if you have any questions for Nurse Fiona, anything MEDSPA,
weight loss.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
That's a big, big topic.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
That's a big thing that people are talking about, is
you know the weight loss that program she offers, botox,
laser hair removal, and on all the facial stuff that
I really don't understand. So if you could please help
me out and leave it talk back with a question
about the facials because I don't understand them at all.
Hydro facials, I don't understand that stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
But love Nurse Fiona.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
She'll be in on Thursday, so get your talkbacks in
and we'll talk before that though tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
I peace

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
