Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, here we go after show podcast. It is justin
welcome and everybody apologies that there's been a lack of
podcasts recently. As we know, as you you probably know,
Winnie has shingles, so she is at home. She missed
the show on Friday. We did a podcast I believe
on Thursday. No podcast Friday, and then today I was like, god,
(00:22):
what are we going to do? But I did talk
to Winnie and she is spreading the virus. Is it
a virus, I don't know, but she's spreading it all
over her face, and so we we wan to wait
till she gets better and then she'll come back to
the show and the after show and all that. So
I know people are expecting after shows to be done,
so I figured I jump on and just say hello
(00:43):
and how you doing? And I also thought that so
Winnie's been out, so producer Riley's been filling in for Winnie,
running the equipment, running the show, doing all the behind
the scenes stuff. And Riley's with me here today. Hi, Riley,
how are you? That's good? If I turn your mic on?
You know why do that? It's because when he usually
sits there, does usually sit there?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, So me and the Billy cost to spot.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, that's a big spot to fill. So Riley, how
has it been filling in for Winnie on the equipment?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Oh it's good. I mean, I don't do this very often,
but like obviously you guys to have trained me to
do this, so you know, next man up, as they say, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
That's that's how it is. And honestly, if I have
to be out for anything, you'd be filling in for
me too.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Well that's kind of already happened when I was here
for like five months and they were like, oh, Justin
has knee surgery, so.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
You're gonna Yeah, I forgot.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I wasn't talking on air or anything, but that was that.
That was crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, it's a it's a it's a lot. It's a lot.
But you've been doing a great job. You've been doing
a great job. It's you know, think about it. Whinnie
has to has to be on the air on the
show and run the equipment. You know, she has to
do both, which is a tough thing. Just running the
equipment alone is tough, which I'm sure you see that today.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Well, the funniest part about running the board is that
I I sometimes if like I'm ever making like the
slightest mistake. I'm in there going, oh no, Justin's gonna
hear me and go like, what was that. I always
know that You're like, you can tell that I like
messed up because you'll go what happened there?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah? Yeah, definitely I try. I know, I try not
to be mean or anything.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
No, You're not mean about it. I'm just always like, oh,
Justin definitely heard that.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
You just have to remember I've made every mistake possible
that you can think of. You get better by making mistakes,
you know. I always say that my biggest issue is
making the same mistakes over and over again. But I've
I've failed on live broadcasts, I've messed up the board.
So you just got to go through those growing pains
whenever they come and then just walk right through them.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah, you're also like the best at what you do.
So it's like kind of hard.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
To be like this because it's my birthday.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
No, not really, actually this is just how I feel,
but yeah, happy birthday. It's just like I watch you
do stuff and I'm like, he's just so good that
I try to, you know, copy you, and sometimes it
doesn't work. No, the good news well, I mean, be yourself,
but copy justin.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
The good news for you is that you can be
just as good too. It's just practice, That's all it is.
That's all it is. You have to remember that when
I took over this job, it was for a kid
named rich Jamari who was a singer and a music guy.
He had a music ear and he was super, super talented,
and he would like do these crazy like singing things
(03:18):
and these funny mashups and these cover songs. And so
when he left and you know, he moved on, they
asked me to fill the position. And I'm like, I
don't sing, and I don't really have an ear for music.
But what I can do is I can just try
to work harder.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
He was a hard worker, but I mean really go
out of my way to like put that extra effort in.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I feel like you have an ear for music though,
like you don't sing, like your mashups are funny and yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, I definitely practice. But in the beginning, think about
how nervous I was. I'm not going to fill this
dude's position, you know. But even the other.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Day, sorry to cut you off when you played that
ed Sheeran when you mashed it with like the NASA.
That was so funny to be like, can you do
stuff like that off like not even not only off
the dome, You're like doing it like five minutes before
we're going on airic where like you're working on entertainment
with Justin. I mean you're Justin with Billy and then
(04:11):
you're editing that on your computer and like all at
the same time.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, it is kind of crazy. It is kind of crazy.
I know they have that sweeper, which makes me happy
that says, how did Justin find those clips so fast? Yeah,
which is funny that you know. That comes for a
lot from working with Mattie matt Siegel. Yeah, because Maddie,
like think about it, he would do a live show
with no prep okay, so he would never tell me
what sound he wanted. He expected that you would just
(04:37):
know where he was going and so, and he didn't
understand that things took time. So he'd say to me, hey,
I want you to I have an idea. I want
you to mash up these two things, and I need
it for the next break in six minutes, right, So
that's where it came from. So it was the pressure
of like being fast that I got good at it
and I don't really get nervous. I just get it
done somehow, some way, you know what I mean. But uh, yeah,
(05:00):
you've been doing a great job. And I don't know
if when you be back tomorrow, I don't know. I
think she said it spread into her scalp.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah that's gross.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
That sucks. No, it's gross and it sucks, man, it sucks.
All I hear is nothing but bad things about shingles.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah. So, and just like, don't have her give it
to you on your birthday?
Speaker 1 (05:17):
No, definitely not. I know, I know, I'm not doing
anything to celebrate. We had a big family reunion yesterday
for all the September babies. So there's like nine people
in her large family that have birthdays in September. Yeah,
so we kind of all gathered. It was really nice.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Well, I'm kind of glad then hearing that. The other
idea that I had for you was to get you
for your birthday. I was going to like stop at
your house with a bunch of Applesider donuts because the
other day you were like, I can't eat those. It's
a Monday, And so I was like, okay, he obviously
likes those. Or I was going to try to bake
you a cake, but then I had a really busy
weekend and I was like, honestly, would he appreciate that? Yes,
(05:54):
but I'm going to get a big gift card. No.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yeah, you got me a gift card to Maddie's Restaurant.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yes, in Salem, New Hampshire, my favorite, and you've never gone,
so I figured this makes sense.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Are they really busy on the weekends.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yes, So when I went on Sunday it was really busy. Yeah,
go on a Saturday early. Their breakfast is really good
and so is their lunch. So I think they're open
till two.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I can get lunch. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
So like, whatever you go for, it's going to be
really good.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
All right, sounds good, sounds good? Well, yeah, tomorrow if
when he's out, you're up again, So great job. Keep
crushing it, and Winnie, if you're listening, I'll also text
you this too. I hope you feel better and be
on the after show tomorrow. No scratching, no scratching. Oh,
Power of Recovery is coming in tomorrow. They're going to
be on the podcast. So if you have any recovery questions,
(06:41):
anything as far as like, you know, getting sober, staying sober.
If someone in your life is struggling, send a talk
back on the iHeart app to the after show and
I'll play them back from Maddie and Damon, who are
like you know, they're on their boots on the ground
in the recovery game. So tomorrow I'll be there with them.
Maybe them and Winnie. I'm not sure. We'll find out.
You know what, You listen and you find out. Bye Bye,
