Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh man, it is a busy, busy morning. Hi friends,
Welcome into the after show. Welcome after show Army, Thank
you for being here, Thank you for tuning in to
this silly little podcast. I was hoping to grab Billy
or Lisa or both of them, but they're running around.
We have a jingle Ball meeting in ten minutes because
jingle Ball is this weekend, so they have to go

(00:21):
over everything, and which is fine. It's good to see
everything up there and the schedule and what we do
because I have been doing it for a long time now,
but you know, things change. It's very like fast paced,
and you know, jingle Ball is a national tour put
on by the company, so you have all the local people,
but then you have the national team which we work with,

(00:43):
who are great, but they come in and they're going
to city to city to city, so then they come
into Boston and we have to collaborate with them, and
that's why it's important to you know, be on board
and make sure everything runs smoothly. But it's gonna be
a great show. I'm looking forward to it. I'm grateful
to be able to go and you know, be backstage.
It's always so great, but I'm working, man. It's like

(01:06):
it's crazy. I have like no time to really enjoy it.
I don't really get to watch much of the show.
You know, Billy's doing interviews. I'm editing audio backstage literally
for hours. I'm just chopping stuff up, getting Billy to record,
sending the audio back to the radio station to put
on the air because it's a live ish countdown and
you know, wrangling Billy who has to go meet with

(01:26):
clients and he's got tours and he's got this and that,
and he's trying to do interviews also record with me.
It's a lot, but I do feel proud that they
don't do it anywhere else in the country, like in
the company, Like they don't do that at any of
these shows. It's something that we started doing a long
time ago here on Kiss, and I think it's really
cool for the listeners who can't make it to the
show where they can listen, you know, during the show

(01:48):
and get it back you know, a sense of backstage
and what that's like and talking to the artists and
it's just really good. So anyway, I want to check
in with you guys real quick.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Just wanted to take a minute two thank you for
carry on on with the after show podcast. I listen
to it during my walk, so thank you for allowing
me to keep up with that routine. And also thank
you for how you've handled everything that's going on with Winnie.

(02:18):
We miss her, we love her, but I give you
so much respect and thanks for all you do. Have
a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Thank you, Michelle. Enjoy your work, but your walk. Keep walking.
That's one thing that I've learned, especially as we get older,
is even something simple like walking is so important.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Obviously, I'm like really into exercise, and I exercise pretty
much every day, but that's always in my head and
I'm thinking about and that's what I try to tell
my mom and my dad is get out there and walk.
My dad is really good about it. My mom could
do a little bit better. But even just walking is
so so good for you. But thank you for those words, Michelle. Listen.
I just keep showing up, man, That's what I do.

(02:56):
That's what I've always done. I don't get involved, and
I try not to get involved any like bullshit stuff.
I just kind of like let my work speak for itself.
So I show up every day, I show up early,
I get my work done, keep my head down. It's
what I've always done. That's been the key to my success.
And I try not to get too like stressed out
and crazy, although I do, you know. It's you know,

(03:17):
I was explaining my job to my friend yesterday, and
you know, it's not always easy, but it's about how
my mindset is right, how am I doing internally, and
that's going to dictate how I'm I able to handle situations.
Obviously I fall short sometimes I like blow up or
I get mad. I'm very animated in the morning, and
that's because I want the show to do good, you know.

(03:40):
And you know I've talked about this over and over again.
You know, there's been so many changes at the radio station,
like so many like going back in, turning Romero and
Pebbles and Pebbles and Melissa getting walked out right in
front of me. I'd been here for like a year.
I didn't know anything like scared to death, like what's happening.
They've been here for so long, so it's just another
thing that happened. It sucks, such is what it is.

(04:00):
But the Answer Show was something that I wanted to
keep on doing. And I'm going to keep doing and
I hope that people like it. I'm gonna get guests
on you know when I can. I have a lot
of plans for twenty twenty six. Obviously this is the
end of the year and coming to the end here,
so I'm super busy, but I guess some plans, don't worry. Hey,
justin just wondering with the radio business being so kind

(04:22):
of unstable with Winnie gone now, And do you.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Ever worry about your job security? Or is that just
how radio is?

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Thanks? I love listening to the podcast. Yeah, please send
any questions you have about anything, and I will do
my best to answer them and to answer your question.
Do I worry about my job? Okay? So I've actually
answered this question a lot to people because I get
asked this a lot in my regular life, and yeah,

(04:52):
I think I do. But also on the other end,
if it ever happens, if and when right whatever happens,
I will be sad. Of course, I'll probably cry, I'll
be upset, but it won't be the end for me.
You know, I'm lucky. You know, you know my story,
you know what I've been through. So the fact that
I've gotten this far, I've already won, and they can't

(05:16):
take that from me. They cannot take that from me.
Like at the end of the day, if I'm let
go or told to leave, ask to leave, walked out, whatever,
I won, because I was never supposed to make it
this far. So that's kind of my mentality. And also
I'll be okay. I'll be okay my entire life since

(05:36):
the day got clean, I've done the right thing and
everything has worked out. And I am a firm believer
that if I keep doing the right thing, it'll all
work out. Everything has worked out. There's been troubling times,
but overall everything has gone the way it should be,
you know. And I have faith that if this ends,
if this door closes, I'll be okay. Elsewhere I'll be sad,

(05:57):
of course, but I try to think about it. And
you know, we're lucky. You know, this is kiss one
to wait. We do pretty well. You know, it's it's
a long standing radio station. You know, we we have
the most listeners. We have a million people, upwards of
a million people that listen every day. We did just
get the ratings in and the highest ratings that they've

(06:17):
been in two or three years, like the last couple
of months have been the highest ratings, which is great.
You know, they go up and down, but we do
pretty good, you know, and I think that we put
on a good show. We do our best to put
on a good show. But on the other part of
that is we're lucky that we work at a top
forty radio station, a heritage radio station that people here

(06:39):
are just used to listening to. So it's our job
to keep them. So this is what we talk always
talk about in our meetings, like behind the scenes, is
people are kind of used to turning on Kiss one
oh eight. That's just what they've always done since they
were little. They grew up in Boston, they put on
Kiss one o eight. It's our job to keep them listening.
And that's kind of the issue, right is it's not

(07:00):
because we're doing a bad job per se. Maybe we
say something or we cover a topic that someone doesn't like.
It's that there are so many options. So when she
talks about the state of radio, that's more about there's
so many options. You have streaming, you have podcasts, you
have so many different things to listen to. When you're
on your way to work or at home, you can
put on audio elsewhere or video elsewhere, right, instead of

(07:23):
putting on the radio. It used to be radio was
the only thing. That's what you listen to every day
to get your news and entertainment. Now all that stuff
can be found on social media, so it's a different
landscape for sure. But Kiss went on, Wait, man, I
grew up listening to this radio station. A lot of
people listen, and I think we're in a good spot.
I really do. It's been a tough year, but I

(07:43):
think we're doing okay. So that's good. And thank you
for that question. I can get to one more question here.
Please send in your talk back questions or comments or anything.
I don't care if I say something that you don't
like on the show on the after show, you can
always tell me I just got a scathing DM. I'm
not gonna read it or anything pretty scathing about me,

(08:04):
and about just some things that I've said on the
show that they were not a fan of. And you
know what I responded back to them. I said, I
appreciate you taking the time to listen to our show
and to care about what what I say or any
of us say, and I will take what you said
under consideration, right, And when I But when I first

(08:24):
saw it, I was like, if you listen to the
podcast yesterday I told that story of my friend and
his little brother, it's the same exact thing. He sent
me a nasty DM. My first thought is like, f you,
I'm gonna come at you. Who do you think you are?
But I didn't. I paused, and I sent a nice
thing back because I'm gonna listen to what this person said,
and uh, and I'll take it under consideration, you know.

(08:45):
But really what I want to what I want to
write is bro I don't even I'm not even supposed
to be here, Like I'm not a a trained radio host.
I don't I have like no training in this, you know.
I was like, I was never supposed to be here.
It's almost I know. I got here through hard work,
but part of it feels like luck, Like I worked hard,

(09:05):
but some of it was luck. And you know, you
got people that go to broadcasting school when they work
their way up and this is their dream and it
was always my dream. But I don't know, man, I'm
just doing the best I can. And I always say
I like talking on a microphone. I like talking on
the radio. It's cool and all that, But really what
I like is the production part. I like the audio.
I like playing clips. That's what I do. That's what

(09:28):
anybody can talk talking to the mic on a radio show,
on a morning radio show. But what I feel like
I can bring is that audio part that a lot
of other shows can't that in the moment, whether it's
talkbacks or funny clips, movie clips, songs, my ability to
pull them up, which I'm super proud of. That's what
I love doing the talking part. Eh So when you

(09:49):
criticize things that I say on the air, I'm like, Okay,
thank you, But I don't even want to be doing that.
I don't know. That's just things that are going on
in my head that I share with you anyway.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Oh justin if you're looking for like really out of
the box unique Christmas gift for either the kiddos or Jen,
there's this Shelderic Wildlife Trust in Africa and you can
adopt a giraffe or elephant and it's so cool. You
don't have to spend a lot of money, but the
receiver thinks it is the most amazing gift ever. And

(10:20):
you could order like stuffed animals and books to go
with it. But definitely check it out.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
That's a cool gift idea. Thank you for that. That
is really cool. Thank you for that suggestion. I am
going to talk to my wife about that and see
what's maybe for next year. I think we're all done
with shopping this year. Actually, it was a whole thing.
People are writing me about me saying on the air
earlier this week that I spend one thousand dollars per

(10:45):
kid for Christmas, and I completely misspoke about that. I
didn't even play the talkbacks from people because I wanted
to let it go. But my wife was like horrified
because Billy asked me, do you put a limit on it?
And I kind of was put on the spot, and
we don't, but we don't spend a ton of money.
But in my head, I'm like, oh, a thousand, and
he said per kid and I was like yeah. And

(11:05):
then people were like, oh my god, that's crazy because
they were listening with their kids and they're like, wow,
a thousand dollars. That's a lot of money per kid.
I don't know what it is, honestly, if I had
to guess, I think it would probably be closer to
a thousand between both kids. But you know, we don't
really add it up. I mean they're all getting small stuff,
you know, things that I think the most expensive thing

(11:26):
that we bought my son was maybe I think one
hundred and fifty or two hundred bucks. That's it. So
I don't know. We're doing the best we can. Everyone's
got something to say. That's the thing about this job
is everybody has something to space say, especially when we
have a talkback feature where they can write whatever they want,
you know, or they can you know, DM me whatever
they want. But it's fine, man. It's all about the mindset.

(11:48):
It's all about how I'm thinking, and that's going to
dictate how I react. Take anything from this podcast, it's
that get your mind right. Anyway, Tomorrow's Friday. I'll try
to jump on very busy jingle ball weekend. But I
love you guys, and yes, send talkbacks. We'd love to
hear from you. I love to hear from you.
