Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, everybody. It is the after show podcast that
you are listening to right now. I'm justin, Welcome in,
Welcome back to everybody who listens to this podcast regularly.
Anybody here for the first time, I'd like to say
welcome as well. There wasn't mention on the regular show
today about Nurse Fiona. She had left to talk back
about being on yesterday, And anytime that the after Show
(00:21):
is mentioned on the show, I always think maybe there's
like one or two new listeners that are checking it out.
So if that's you, welcome in to the podcast. I
do my best to do a podcast every day. Some
days I have guests like yesterday. Somedays it's just me.
I don't want to leave you high and dry, especially
because you know you might have this podcast in your
(00:42):
routine and I appreciate that. So anyway, Happy Friday. It's
December fifth. I was just chatting with our boss. He
stopped in and it's all good, man, it's all good.
You know a lot of good things coming going on
coming into the end of the year, jingle Ball and
the Big cas and best ofs and countdowns and all
(01:03):
that stuff that starts now that I've been working on.
You know, Billy and I do a year end countdown,
which is really special to me and to Billy because
you know, we record it. We spend a lot of
time on it. I spend a lot of time researching
it and kind of putting together the best music countdown.
And then of course we have the top twenty five
moments of the year, which I've been picking. I think
(01:25):
we're done with it. Hint, hint. Number one is Tom Brady.
There's an exclusive the well, the only time he called in,
he was supposed he was supposed to join us again,
but I don't know. It's tricky. It's tricky. Chris is
really trying hard. He said to me, you know, I
can get Tom on the show, you know, but and
(01:45):
I said, well, I'd like to do something special with him.
And so we had this whole plan which is gonna
happen at some point where Tom's gonna do something really
special for one of our listeners. I think with the holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas,
there's a lot going on, and Tom's a busy guy. Man.
It's been cool knowing Chris and getting up behind the
scenes and how these things work. Like with Tom Brady,
(02:08):
you know, like how Chris communicates with him and how
Tom operates and we're talking about the fucking goat here.
Think about how crazy that is. I was talking to
Chris recently and I'm like, dude, you must pinch yourself.
And I know that feeling because I get that feeling
still from working here at KIS went away growing up
listening to this radio station. We all grew up watching
(02:30):
and idolizing Tom Brady and now Chris Costa that's like
his boy. Billy was talking to Chris yesterday and Chris
was giving him a schedule. It's insane. Like he's flying
all across the country to different places, going to the
super Bowl, got invited to Tiger Wood's birthday party. And
you know when he says these things, it's like he's
(02:52):
not flexing. This is his career, you know. I don't
know if you know the story on how it all happened.
Maybe you do, maybe you don't. I'll tell it quickly.
Chris had a very successful job in software sales, I
believe it is, and he made a really good living
for many many years. And he always did trading cards.
It was always his hobby. I don't know if he
(03:13):
ever really had the idea to ever turn that into
a career, but it's something that he's always done, even
when it kind of went in and out of style,
if you will, you know, like when I was growing up,
it was popular and then it kind of went away.
Chris was consistent with the sports trading cards. So then
COVID hits okay and the world is shut down, and
Chris was on Nantucket on vacation on the beach I
(03:36):
think maybe twenty twenty one maybe, so things were kind
of opening up back up again. But he was on
the beach and he was talking to Randy from Big
Night Entertainment, who owns you know, him and his partners,
The Grand and you know, all these places, and he
was telling him about these sports cards. And it wasn't
a pitch, they were just having a conversation. But in
that conversation, Randy's head started spinning because I think I
(04:01):
think a lot of the things stuff were shut down
or had just reopened, so they were having a lot
of issues. I mean, that was tough to navigate as
well for restaurants and clubs. But it sparked an idea
in Randy's head, and afterwards, Randy called Chris and said, Hey,
that thing you were telling me about, tell me more
about it. And so then they had a conversation and
together they came up with card Vaults to open a
(04:23):
trading card store. They opened one, they opened two, and
it just grew and grew and grew. They have their
trading shows, and then fast forward, they get introduced to
Tom Brady through Michael Rubin. They do a pitch and
Tom Brady buys into card Vault and it becomes card
Vault by Tom Brady. And I'll never forget Chris told
(04:43):
us when he went to New York to do the
pitch to Tom Brady himself. They're in the in the
meeting in one of these big buildings in New York,
and it's all, you know, Chris and the whole Card
Vault team, Tom and all his team, some of the
Big Night Night Big Night guys spoke kind of an
introduction and they introduce Chris to Tom and they said,
this is Chris. He's basically the brains behind the whole thing.
(05:05):
And Chris said he was so nervous, but he stood
up and the first thing he said before he went
into the pitch was I just want to say Tom,
you are my idol. I grew up watching you and
idolizing you, and I don't even know how I got here,
but this feeling is incredible. And Tom had a response like, wow,
thank you so much for saying that. I can't remember
what he said exactly, but it was very heartfelt what
(05:26):
he said back to Chris. And then Chris went into
his pitch and fucking crushed it and Tom bought in.
It's just a really really cool story. And you know
it was all done by himself, Like Billy didn't help
him do any of that. You know, his dad's Billy Costa.
You know, his dad has a lot of connections, and
you know, he very well could have helped him do
(05:47):
many things, and he did it all himself. So I'm
super proud of Chris and super proud of everything that
he's doing. And yes, he will get Tom Brady eventually,
and he'll be doing something really really cool. I don't
want to spoil it yet, but it's something very cool
and something that you or someone you know could actually win.
So that's cool. Tonight, I want to have my daughter's
(06:07):
Christmas concert at her school. I'm so excited for this.
She's been practicing. So she goes to a Christian daycare
and it's like the best daycare ever. I'll give them
a shout out. Granted United in Salem, New Hampshire. She's
been going for like about a year and a half
and they had one last year. They have one again
this year. She's been practicing. She knows all the words
(06:28):
to the songs, and you know, they're all religious based,
they're all Christian based, so it's just really it's just
the cutest thing. So I'll be there today at four
point thirty to see that. The whole family's coming, except
for my mother in law who's in Florida. She's visiting
her sister down there for a week, so we'll be there.
My dad will come up and that'll be cool. And
then tomorrow night I'm going to Rayquon in Mob Deep.
(06:49):
If you know me, you know I'm a big nineties
rap fan, So I'm excited for that. Rayquon half a
Mob Deep because Prodigy died several years ago. Rip to P.
When I started on jamming as an intern, that was
kind of the running joke that I had with DJ
pup Dog. I'm like, listen, rappers come in here all
the time, but any nineties rappers that come in, please
(07:11):
let me know. And so it was always cool when
they would come in because pup Dog would call me
or text me and be like, hey, so and so
it's coming in, Like I remember when Joe Bunnen roys
to five nine joel Otz. You might not know who
these people are, but the rappers that I'm into, it
was always super excited. I remember I met a very
young Kendrick Lamar that was cool. He came in very
early in the morning, high as a kite, but nice guy.
(07:34):
And you can imagine Kendrick Lamar a very soft spoken like.
I had a conversation with him and he was either
really hired or really high or really tired. I can't forget.
But the number one coolest meeting of a rapper that
I ever had was Fabulous, another nineties rapper, because he
(07:54):
came in with pusha t It was at four or
five o'clock in the afternoon, so I worked on the
morning show with Romero, so I had gone home and
then I came back at four and Push a Tea
and Fabulous had a show I think at the wilbur
that night. So I was in the studio with Pop.
They both came in, just them too. That's it. Did
the interview, and then I was kind of talking with
(08:15):
Pop and fab and Push a Tea for a couple
of minutes, and then Push a Tea had to leave.
He had to do something, so he left, and it
was just Fabulous, Pop Dog and I and we had
like an hour long conversation, and I was just asking
questions to Fabulous, like about rap, about other nineties rappers,
about you know what it was like back then early
(08:36):
two thousands when Fabulous was like massive. It was just
it was an experience. And he loved it too, because
his people ended up having to come in, open the
door and pull him out. They're like, we gotta go,
and so that was a really cool moment. So yeah,
Rayquon mob Deep never met Rayquan never met mob Deep.
So when I'm excited to go and watch the show,
(08:56):
I'll be there with three. I'm my closest friends. I
got a lot of show was coming up, man. I
got that tonight, I got jingle Ball next week, then
the week after I got Ow's The Mentalist, which I
got tickets to go see, and then I'm going to
kill Tony a comedy show on the twenty seventh at
the Box Center. So I got a busy, busy month ahead.
So anyway, I wanted to check in with you guys
(09:18):
if you did not listen to the Nurse Fiona yesterday.
It was very good, a lot of good feedback on that.
She answered a lot of questions and she left a
nice talkback on the show today as well, So shout
out to her. I'll be going there in a couple
of weeks with my wife. Get some laser, get some boattox.
Well she'll get boatox. I'll get some laser on my back.
So have a great weekend everybody. Next week, I don't
(09:40):
know what to tease. I don't know what's going on.
I'm just playing it day by day. But hopefully I'll
pull somebody on, get somebody on for the podcast. I
