Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, here we go. It's the after show. It's a
Monday after jingle Ball. Yes, definitely tired, but definitely worth it.
What an amazing show last night. It was busy. It
was very, very busy. A lot of people know that.
I don't know if they know this or not, but
I always come early on jingle Ball Sunday because I
work and get a lot of stuff done, and that

(00:20):
stuff not just for jingle Ball, but for the show
as well, some of the end of the year things
countdown stuff. You know, I come in, I'm by myself,
I can work. So it sucks because it's a long day.
But I got a lot done, and I got a
lot done yesterday. When it comes to like the awards
and the mashups and like all that stuff takes time
to put together. So I got a lot done. And

(00:44):
then jingle Ball of course last night. I mean, what
can I say, it was it's very busy and it
kind of sucks. It's good and it's bad. It's good
because it's a great show and grateful to be there
and you know that's always so special to me. But
it sucks because I'm so busy working. I kind of
feel like I'm glued to the computer because producer Riley

(01:04):
posted a little bit behind the scenes thing of what
I do. So I have a computer and I'm recording
Billy's interviews as he does them, and then I chop
them up as soon as he's done, and then Billy
and I record as if we're with the artists. So,
for example, Olivia Dean does the interview, I take notes
on things that I want to use. She talked about
her songs, she talked about doing SNL. Those are two

(01:26):
things that I knew we were going to use. So
once she's done, I cut it up real quick. Billy
comes over and then he records and says, you know, hey,
we're backstage justin and I we just had Olivia Dean here.
She talked about SNL boom. And then I edit it
all together and I send it to the radio station
to be put on. But of course there's a time

(01:47):
you have to get in at a certain time before
it airs. And then also the schedule is all crazy backstage,
and you know, times change coming, they're not coming, they
are coming. It's just really crazy. So I wish that
I could enjoy it more. Wish I could have went
out and talked to people and talk to clients that
I had, and it kind of stinks, you know, like
Nurse Fiona's one. It was her birthday yesterday. I really

(02:08):
wanted to go out and see her and say hello,
but I couldn't. I was stuck there. But I'm grateful.
It was a great night altogether. Ed Sharon did not
do the interview, and I feel like he didn't do
it because he wanted to watch the show. He literally
stood anytime that I was out, like side stage, I
was standing next to Ed, and he was standing next
to Miles Smith watching the show, you know, bopping around.

(02:31):
We saw him with Zarra Larson, he was with Sean Paul,
he was with Miles Smith. He was everywhere. So whatever,
we love ed either way, and he crushed it. I
mean we got to go on stage introduce him, which
is not an easy thing. By the way, Billy Costa
makes it look easy. Even Lisa makes it look easy.
They've been doing it a long time, but not really
a stage guy per se. I mean, I do the

(02:51):
best that I can, but definitely nervous, especially standing on
stage at the Gardens, like completely wild, so all and off.
If you went to the show. I hope you had fun.
You know, we work all year leading up to this
kind of like the last thing before Christmas vacation and
then the start of a new year. So I know
we talk about jingle Ball a lot, but it is
a big deal for the radio station and for us,

(03:14):
and I think for the people of Boston. It's a
holiday tradition, you know. So yeah, that was that. And
you know something else that kind of annoyed me that
I will talk about here on this podcast. You know,
there was a picture posted of Billy, Lisa and I
and so I liked it. I really liked the picture
I got posted on my Instagram and also to Facebook,

(03:35):
and I collabed with kiss went Await and all that,
and I saw there were like so many comments, like
more comments than any other picture of a video that
was posted. So I'm like, huh, so I look, and
you know a lot of the comments were things like
you know, miss Winny, which I understand. I never get
mad at that. I understand that, like, hey, you know,
when I wish when he was there, you know, because

(03:56):
she would have been. But then they were like these
nasty comments, Okay, I don't understand, Like who are the
people that think it's okay to write, well, I think
it's okay, but that are so freely able to write
these things. Right, we talk about the Internet, We talked
about people that troll or whatever, But like, when you

(04:20):
write a nasty comment like that to people you don't know,
and I understand maybe we're considered public figures, but would
you say that in person? I don't think so. Would
you say something nasty to me or to Billy or
to Lisa in person? You just feel like you can
just write whenever you want. Now, I get you're upset.
If you're upset that there was a change on the show.

(04:41):
I get it. If you're upset that when he is gone,
I understand. And I've said this before, like if you're
so upset you want to go to a different radio
station or a different podcast, or you do not want
to listen at all, I understand, But it's the need
to tell us, like to hurt us that I'm like, okay.
But then there's people that write some like straight nasty shit,

(05:01):
like go to the Kiss Facebook you can read all
the comments. I actually, for the first time ever, kind
of responded to one. I just wrote a kissy faced
because some woman wrote that the show is elitists that
were elite. Motherfucker. I'm elite. I'm elite. I lived on
the streets of Boston like I used to shoot heroin
on the street. I smoked cocaine every day of my

(05:22):
life for many years. I got clean and was able
to somehow live out my dream, went back to college
and made it all the way to hear but I'm
an elitist because I have a fucking sauna like you?
Is that a serious comment erin I don't know, A
little tired, some little moody, So this is gonna be
a good podcast. But yeah, okay, how about this? How

(05:45):
about I worked hard. I started making a little bit
of money where I could save my money and not
blow it. And then I saved up money. Do you
want to know how I got the sauna? I will
tell you. I invested money in crypto because my friend
told me so. I had money sitting in a crypto
account that had made money. So I think I made
like it was six or seven thousand dollars over the

(06:06):
span of several years that money that just had sat
and I was contributing to it every week. I had
a thing set up where like twenty bucks a week
would invest into a crypto, and so it made its
way up to like six or seven grand, and then
they came to me with New England Spas and said, hey,
do you want to make a deal. I said, I
would love a sauna and I was going to just
finance it. And so then New England Sauna, who was amazing.

(06:28):
They gave me a little bit of a discount, you know,
a couple of thousand dollars off. The sauna was still
about seven thousand dollars and so instead of financing it,
I just pulled the money out of my crypto and
paid for it. Okay, when I had the bad news
on that that was that was in October of last year.
Literally the election was a month later, and it quadrupled

(06:50):
in value. So I would have had I don't know,
thirty thousand dollars. That's neither hand nor there. It just sucks.
But no, I got a sauna. So I talk about
the sauna on the radio. But the people that hear
that and they're like, oh, you're a fucking elitist. I
hate that show. I hate I don't care if you
don't like the show, that's fine. And I'm not talking

(07:12):
about people that say they miss Winny. I'm not talking
about them. I understand that. I understand that it's the
other people with the negative stuff. Man, it's crazy to
me that you feel that you can write those things.
Who are you. Let's take a look in your closet.
See that's the thing, right, Let's take a look at
what you got going on, because I bet you got

(07:32):
shit going on. We all do, you know, so mind
your business is what I was what I'd like to say,
Oh I'm on Facebook. Oh there's a picture of them through.
Oh this show is awful. And by the way, they
made fun of my sneakers, which is like a low blow.
I don't really care. But someone wrote, oh the white
sneakers justin like that's so eighties. Okay, I actually liked

(07:55):
the sneakers. They were like supreme. I don't even know
what that is, but they're kind of like heat. You know.
I had been holding them for a while, waiting for
a special moment, and it was jingle Ball last night,
so I'm probably this green sweater that I went out
and bought, which is festive, and then my white sneakers
with the red laces and they're supreme Airmaxes. I know
you probably don't know what that means. But they're pretty,
they're pretty dope. They're pretty elite. Elite. Oh I'm an elitist,

(08:18):
never mind. And so yeah, they would make making fun
of my white sneakers. I'm like, if I met this
person on the street, would they say that to me?
I don't think so. I doubt it because when I
meet people anywhere and I'm out and about, I meet
people all the time that are listeners of the show
or whatever. Not once, not once, has anybody said something

(08:38):
disrespectful to me. But yeah, I go online and people
are just taking shots. It's just interesting to me. I
didn't want to go off on a whole rant on this,
but I knew I wanted to address it on the podcast.
It's just kind of like sucky, just kind of like
brings the mood down. Didn't kill it because we still
had an amazing time. It was an amazing jingle ball
and I try to get out of thinking of and

(09:01):
it always goes back to recovery. I know you're probably
sick of hearing it, but I'm sorry if you're listening
to this podcast, if you listen to me. It's such
a big part of my life. But one of the
things you learn about when you get clean is that
you know there's a saying where you'll be in a
room full of one thousand people that love you, and
there's one person that doesn't like you, and you have
a tendency to focus on that person, not the nine

(09:23):
hundred and ninety nine other people who love you. You're
just so focused on that one person. So I kind
of attribute that to this. Right, there are so many
people who are still listening, okay, and the comments that say, right,
you want to get really real here, the comments that say, oh,
the show is over, Oh the vbros Are gonna take over,
the show is in the trash, just cancel them. Really,

(09:44):
we just had the highest ratings in two years that
just came in for the new book. The ratings have
gone up since when he left, and which is shocking
because we thought that they were going to go down
because there were so many people writing negative stuff. But
they haven't. The ratings have actually gone up. I don't
know if that's now. Here's the thing you might be thinking,
is that because when he's gone. I don't think so.

(10:06):
The ratings do go up and down. They are weird.
There are different factors. I don't try to put too
much into the ratings because it's such a wacky system.
It's such a wacky way to measure listening. I can
go into that another time. So I do. I think
it's that I don't necessarily think so it may sound
like that, but still, Okay, the ratings are going up.
The ratings were had our best book in like two

(10:29):
to two and a half years, So no, we're doing okay.
I know this show is different. I get it. But
guess who's showing up. Guess who's showing up at eight
o'clock in the morning on jingle Ball Day and working
until midnight and then getting up at three am to
come back in and do a morning show on a
Monday with all of the audio. Guess who's showing up.
Guess who's been here putting together all of this shit

(10:51):
for this show. I don't know. It's a really frustrating thing.
I get the changes. I get that stuff happens. But
Winnie has a podcast, man, you know, like she's doing
the best that she can. She has a podcast that's uh.
I think it drops every single week, like you can
listen to both, or you can just listen to her.
If if you can't listen to this show without her,

(11:13):
she has a podcast that you can listen to. Go
support her, you know what I mean. I think she
has a pay thing you have to pay. I think
it's like five bucks a month. You can pay five
dollars a month and listen to Winnie every single week.
And you know what turn us off? And don't comment,
don't say hurtful things to people. You know, it's really
frustrating to me. I don't know why. It's it's unfortunate

(11:38):
that I that I that people are just so nasty
and shout out to the people who jump on and
defend us. Not that you have to do that, but
the people that jump on and they're like, listen, you know,
it's not their fault, or you know, just don't listen
to the show if you don't like it. Yeah, And
you know what's crazy is Billy and Lisa don't read
any of the comments. They live a free life, happy

(12:00):
as fucking clams. That's what they do. And by the way,
when you take a shot at Lisa's book club, let's okay,
don't let me get into that Lisa's book Club. Right,
Lisa didn't do anything for a year, Like she was
on the show with Maddie, and she always wanted to
do stuff, but she never had the courage to do
it right. And then Maddie retired and she kind of
was like, I want to do this thing. So she
started a book club for people to get people reading

(12:23):
and to bring people together, women, men, everybody. And look
what it's turned into. She puts so much time and
work into that. It's a community thing. It sells out
every single time. Why because people like coming together to
meet the authors, to see each other. I mean, it's
become a real book club. Okay, So I don't understand
how that's a negative thing. Oh, that stupid show, Lisa.

(12:46):
All they talk about is Lisa's books and Billy's kid. Okay,
let's talk about Billy's kid real quick. Chris Costa has
a partnership with Tom Brady that he got without his father.
Without his father, Billy had no hand in the relationship
that Chris Costa with Tom Brady. Chris Costa did it
all on his own. Do we know that? Do we think?
Did you think that Billy like you know, because he's

(13:08):
Billy Costa's son. No, Chris did it all on his own.
So I don't know, Man, We're not perfect, and you
can say a lot of different things, but uh, you know,
I think that we have a good show, and I
work with these people every single day and I can
tell you that they are two of the most sweetest
people you will ever fucking meet. And this goes back

(13:29):
to the Maddie thing with people attacking them. Like if
you listen to the show, if you've been listening to
the show for a long time of Billy and Lisa,
you should pretty much pick it up that they're nice people,
that they've never hurt a soul. What would argue they
are too nice sometimes, you know, So yeah, it's frustrating.
So that's the thing if you listen to this podcast,

(13:51):
and if you listen to this podcast, you're probably still
listening to the show. So I don't even know why
I'm going up on this rant here, but I don't know.
It makes me feel better. But yeah, j was amazing. Man,
I'm not going to let that ruin it. I just
wanted to get that off my chest because I'm like
reading through the comments last night when I got home
trying to go to bed, and I'm like riding a
high on this jingle ball thing. And then I'm scrolling
through the comments, which I shouldn't do, but I read

(14:13):
all the comments and I'm like, really, wow, man, they're
really that worked up. Huh. I don't know, it's crazy.
But anyway, I love you guys, and thank you so
much for listening. Thanks for letting me rant. I appreciate it.
I feel so much better now. And you know what,
at the end of the day, it's gonna be okay.
I'm gonna still show up to work do my best
like I've always done my entire career. I just keep

(14:36):
showing up until they tell me to not come in anymore.
You know. I was talking to tiff last night. Tiffany
who worked here. She was in Cincinnati. She was part
of the layoffs, but she came to She was like
the voice of God there, so they kind of contracted
her out to work. And I had a good conversation
with her, man, and like where her mindset is at

(14:56):
and it sucks, you know, And it's the same thing
as Winnie. It's the same sam exact situation as Winnie.
Like just part of the layoffs, and she said, you know,
how are you doing? Are you you know, are you
nervous or whatever? And I guess I'm always a little
bit nervous. But I talked about this last week. If
it happens, it happens, you know, I would be so

(15:17):
sad and so devastated. But at the end of the day,
I said, Tiff, and this goes for you too, that
we won. We won like we made it onto Kiss
one oh eight, the radio station that we grew up
listening to. We got an opportunity that not a lot
of people ever ever get, and we got it. And
I'll always be grateful for that. So until that day comes, man,

(15:38):
I'll be showing up here and working and putting in
the time, putting in the hours to do the best show.
You know. The Boss texted me, texted all of us
group texts. He was like, listen to the show this morning, amazing,
great coverage of everything. And I saw him in the
hallway and I go, you know what, a lot of
people can say a lot of different things about the show.
They can be critical of the show, but one thing
you cannot ever say is we don't have content. And

(16:01):
that's something that I'm always proud of the content that
I'm able to contribute. All of us contribute, you know
what I mean, But the content in general of the
show I'm always super proud of. So there's that. Love
you guys. Send your talkbacks in I'll try to get
to them. One week left and then we're off on vacation.
I hope you get some time off with your friends
and your family and can enjoy the holiday. But tomorrow

(16:22):
I believe we will talk. I'll do my best. Love
you guys. Bye,
