Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, everybody, Welcome to the After Show. It's Justin minus Winnie.
When he is still out. She's at home recovering. She
has shingles. We did check in with her yesterday on
the show. She seems to be on the mend. Likely
she'll take the rest of the week off and then
come back on Monday for a fresh start. I think
the spreading has stopped, but you know, she feels like crap.
(00:23):
That's the thing. And there was somebody else in the
building that had shingles a while ago or still, I
don't even know. They were on a different radio station,
but they were off for two weeks when they had it.
So after this week it'll be you know, I don't know,
ten or eleven days. It just sucks all around. So
when he's out, but you know, we wish her all
the best and hopefully she gets better quicker and she
(00:44):
comes back, you know what I mean? You know what
I mean?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Mo, Justin Winnie. It's your girl, Mo from sal New Hampshire,
and I just want to wish you well when he
was your little face. Oh it sounds awfully perfect. I'm
not gonna lie though. When you guys talked about it
on the main show. I kind of felt cool inside
because I had already known about it because I'm in
an after show army member from day one. So when
(01:10):
you guys start talking about it, I was like, oh,
I know all about this. I know that because I
know them and we're friends.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, shout out to mo, thank you so much for
listening to the after show and the regular show. And yeah,
that's what the after show is. It's like a companion show.
And a lot of times we talk about things that
we can't talk about on the show, or we talk
about them early before we talked to them on the
main show. I think, I there's a video post with
me talking about my dad and him tell him he's
proud of me.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I had talked extensively about that on this podcast, about how,
you know, all the praise that I get from everybody
in my life, from all the listeners, from you know,
people in the building, my friends, you know, all that
is all well and good, but the one I really
wanted was my dad, you know, and finally I got that.
So you can check that video out on the Kiss
Instagram or my story. But with Winnie being out on
(01:54):
the main show, producer Riley stepping up big time. Hello, Hello,
how has it been?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's good?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I mean I feel like things are getting easier.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Day by day. You just keep doing it over and
over again, it gets easier. It just becomes like second nature. Yeah,
you know, but it's a hard job, would you agree?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, which I knew, but like, because I mean, I
run the traffic. I'm like, I'm just pressing the buttons
during the traffic when Winny's here, But like doing the
whole show is a completely different beast.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, so let's think about it, right, So take you
behind the scenes of the show. So Riley is running
the board, so meaning she is responsible for everything you hear,
from the songs to the commercials, the sound bites, the
funny things I play, but any of the music and stuff.
She is running that. Now, not only does she have
to do that, she runs the traffic. Then all the
live reads.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Then you're running back and forth because we don't have
a phone screener because you're in the main studio, so
you're answering the phone. There's just a lot and you
work very closely with me as Winnie does. We kind
of communicate through different studios. So you've been doing a
great job.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
You know, it's not easy to step in. It's not easy. Yeah,
happened to me though. That's exactly what happened to me
on the Mattie in the Morning show. Somebody had to
be off. I stepped in, and I remember after like
one day. So if you don't know the story, it's
actually pretty cool, you know. I had never thought that
I'd get on to kiss one to wait. I worked
for like Ryan Seacrest in middays, but I never thought
(03:18):
to be an opportunity in the morning, right. But I
knew the show. I studied the show. I listened to
the show for many years, so I kind of understood it.
So what I would do is I would like listen
to how they ran the board. I would listen to
how like sound clips were played. And then I would
listen to the show on the way into work and
I would hear like a sound clip played, and then
I would go in and I would ask Rich, Hey,
(03:40):
where'd you get that sound clip? You know, and he
would just tell me he didn't know. Like that. I
was training myself. So when that day came when I
had to step in for somebody, I did for one
day and the next day I'll never forget I came
in to say hello, and the guy that I was
filling in for, Gay Jim, was like, hey, thanks, great
job yesterday, Justin. And then Maddie looked at me, looked
(04:02):
at Jim and goes, what does it say about you
that after one day, this kid can do your entire job?
It was like the highest compliment. Yeah, you know, and
it just really just means like you've been paying attention
and now it's time to apply it and not be
too like nervous. Yeah, because it's hard.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Well, we've had days too, and I or me, but
like I know, you can relate to this where it's
like the board is sometimes like your enemy for like
if something yeah, if something like goes wrong, you can
like spiral. That happened to me like a couple I
don't even know if it was like a couple of
months ago when Winnie was out for something and I
was just having like an awful day. I kept making
(04:39):
like mistakes that I knew I shouldn't be making, that
I know better than be making. And I literally was
like there was one point where you were like, hey,
like what's going on?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
And I was like oh sorry.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, I couldn't get it together. It's like it's so
hard sometimes. And then this week I've just been like
that last time, I need to forget about it, Like
let's just not even worry about it. And you were
even so nice to me about everything, and like we're
just trying to communicate as much as we can. But
like I felt much better, much much better this time
than last time. I was like, oh my god.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
I've also been trying to if you notice, stay out
of your way, you know, because I don't want to
be in there overshadowing you, standing over your shoulder, because
I feel like that can make you more nervous. Yeah,
like you're on your own. I'm here if you need me,
but do your thing. And I'll never forget one thing
that DJ pop Dog said to me when I worked
on jam And many years ago. I had messed up
something on the air and I was like, just like you,
I was beating myself up about it, and he goes,
(05:30):
justin big at one of the biggest things in radio,
you have to learn once it goes out, you can
never get it back. Yeah, you don't get a second
shot at it. It's live radio, like it's gone, move on,
you can't fix it, right, which is so true. So yeah,
you've been doing a great job, man, thank you, so
thank you for that.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Ar just to like a lot of things that I'm
trying to to like that I know Billy and Lisa
like then I'm like, it's like one of those things
where you're just like almost collecting data. Like I'm like,
I know that Billy rather would like once an earlier
he wants me to say, like one minute, this is
what we're doing. So I'm like, I'm trying to be
good about what Billy wants. I'm trying to be good
about what you want. I'm like trying to give Lisa
(06:07):
time and you know, just like just everything that I've learned,
it's time to put it, yeah, into reality.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
And you know, if if down the line I have
to be out, you'll jump into my position. Yeah, to
fill in for me. That's what your job is, I know,
so to fill yeah, thank you. So yeah, Whinnie will
be back on Monday. There's an after show today. Obviously tomorrow.
I'll do my best, but we have a jingle ball
meeting because Friday, Riley is the big announcement that exciting
(06:33):
so I don't This might be the last one for
the week. I'll do my best, but definitely a Monday,
Whinnie will be back and we'll cover her whole excursion.
Hopefully she'll sound okay.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Hi.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
You should check out that video on the Kiss Instagram
as well. But producer Riley back to work and thank
you so much.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Thank you.
