Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning to one out of point three wn I

(00:01):
see Jay Towers, Alison Chelsea. Welcome to the show. That
time is finally here. As today we kick off our
phone calls for Jay's juniors now right up until we
leave for our trip in early December.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hello, Kristin.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah, it's Jay Towers from the Campaign of a Better Tomorrow.
How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm doing all right. I know your voice. I'm so excited.
I was not expecting this at all.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Oh, well, it's nice to talk to you. I'm in
the room here with Alison and Chelsea from our show
on WNIC.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Hello, Hello, how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I'm doing all right, Like I'm actually at my daughter's
stool right now. I do medical stuff and so I'm
glad I'm able to answer. Oh my gosh, you.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Have a couple of minutes. You do have some times.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I have a couple of minutes.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Yes, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
And your daughter's Olivia, Yes, Olivia. We were reading the application,
and I know it is a pretty severe form of
spine a bifida, right, is that what she has?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
She's got the most severe form.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, explain a little bit about it, you know how
you find that out obviously early and then what's life
like and just give us a little rundown.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Well, I found out when I was pregnant, I would
say two like I think, I don't even know how
many weeks. But they were supposed to just tell me
the gender and whatnot. And I found out then, and
I was told a bunch of negative stuff. And it's
not for me to judge other people, but I was
supposed to have a no quality of life all this stuff,
and I'm like, well, let's just wait and see. And

(01:29):
so we were. Olivia was transferred on my case to
not Children's Hospital in nann Arbor and I had her
there and she's followed by just a multiple different doctors, neurosurgeons, urologists,
orthopedic surgeons. There's nothing wrong with her. She's a wonderful person,
you know, she's who she is supposed to be, uh

(01:50):
and how she's supposed to be. But she just has
a lot going on.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
But it wasn't what it was predicted.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
No, not at all. And the thing is is that like,
like she has something called hydrocephilis, so they had to
put a shunt in her brain.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
We're familiar, yeah, but like.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Even if she can walk and stuff, but even if
she wouldn't have been able to walk, like they were
telling me, like you know, when they do stand, they say, oh,
she's not moving. God. At that moment, I was extremely
like upset, and Trompon was like, oh, no, you know,
or there's a certain thing she does differently also during
the day, like urologic stuff. It doesn't matter, like that's

(02:25):
not what makes her happy anyway, it's not you know
what I mean, Like and I lost sight of all that,
But I don't know. She's my world.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
She has another condition that we're familiar with because many
of our Jay's juniors from previous years have had this
also Kiari malformation.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, and that's all kind of goes hand in hands
with a lot of kids that have had to have
surgeries because of that, but Olivia thankfully hasn't yet. She's
had to have a vinal cordiut othering surgery at four.
She's had like I don't know, I think she's on
like maybe eighteen like her I don't even know, like surgery.
She just had one for her bladder like a couple
of weeks ago. But she's like the first one out

(03:05):
of the hospital pretty much like you have two phases
and post off. She was out within like twenty twenty
five minutes of the first room.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Wow, she's a tough girl.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yes, she doesn't know any different, I guess. So it's
like I don't know, she's just done through a lot,
and I try to be positive because she's a positive story.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
But yeah, at the end of the day, she has
a kind of real she does. She's got a lot.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
She's got a lot going on, which is why you
came to our attention. And it's just the two of you.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yes, it's the two of us. Yes, and the lady.
Actually that drives me because I don't drive to do
Olivia's medical stuff at school every day. She told me
about a friend of hers or applied like last year
or the year before. So this driver, Diane has been
like pushing me. She's like, come on, you know you
need to do it. Da da da, And so then

(03:52):
here we are.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Wow, that's what we love.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
I love hearing stories like that because it's one thing
we always tell people, because we always say, you know,
it's not like don't write us a check for fifty dollars,
like we'll get the money, but tell people about our
program because it's a really good program. It's our tenth year.
So Kristin, we would love to take you in Olivia
to Disney World, all expenses paid at Christmas.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Time with us. Yes, Oh my god, I'm so excited.
All right, I'm not, are you sure? Like I honestly like,
I'm so thrilled, Like I wasn't expecting anything, you know,
because you don't want Like, I can't even handle it.
Thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
You weren't expecting anything, but you got everything.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
It's all coming your way.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Thank you so much. She was like she asked to go,
and I'm like, well maybe one day.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
You know.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Oh, that's wonderful. Like I got in shock. I think
I've been shocked. Do you think she would like spending
her eighth birthday in Disney? Oh my gosh, yeah, that's insane.
I can't even like, this is just so wonderful. Thank you.
I thought you guys would get so many people and
I'm just not used to this. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
We do get a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
We got hundreds of applications, but this one really stuck
out to us when we thought it. You go and listen,
this trip is and it's all it's all included. So
I mean you come on the plane with us, and
hotels taking care of, and food's taking care of and
spending money taking care of an I believe. Yeah, you're
gonna have a great time. We're gonna have a great
time with you.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Oh, thank you so much. Oh my gosh, this is
like it's going to take me a minute to register this.
This is like thrilling, like this is the best thing ever.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
You get to go tell Olivia now, Oh my.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Gosh, I'm gonna go running into her room.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
You know, we couldn't do Jays Juniors without our amazing sponsors,
our partners that make everything possible for these trips Jersey
Mike's of Course, and Planet Fitness and Canterbury.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Village Mascow Imagine Kroger.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
And our wonderful charitable partner Angels of Hope.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
We truly could not do this without you.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Thank you, Thank you, all of you. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Go ahead, go back to what you're doing, have a
great day.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
