Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Troit's Christmas Station is one out of point three
WNIC with Jay Towers, Alison Chelsea. It is time for
Jays Juniors and we want to introduce you to Jessica.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Jessica is the mom of Willow. Now, Willow does not
eat food the way we eat food, and they have
a big family.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
So those challenges every day when you hear some of
the things they have to go through just to do
something that we all take for granted, pretty unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hello Jessica.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hi, Hi, she Towers at WNIC. How are you good?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I'm here with Allison and Chelsea.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
From the show. Hello, Hi, I am So.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
We had a couple of questions we wanted to ask
you a little bit about Willow to starting with the
fact that she can have twelve safe foods. Is that correct?

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yep, that's correct. Her primary source of nutrients as formula.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Wow, So can you explain, so explain why that is
just kind of what these couple of years have been
like for you and what this is all about.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Oh, she was a month old and I had mentioned
to her primary care physician. I said, you know, she's
a breastfed baby. Like she has the worst smelling poops ever,
Like she can clear a room, so like to go
back to that a little bit, and I'm like, I
just don't get it, Like I have three other children,
and it was ever that way. And so they finally,

(01:21):
after me being persistent about it, they finally tucked her
stool and she had blood in her stool. So they
said they think that that would be like a dairy
or a soy allergy or something, so to cut all
of this stuff out of my diet. So I did that.
We still continued on having these things. She was like
considered a failure to thrive, wasn't gaining weight, wasn't on
the growth like chart at all. So like at her

(01:44):
six month visit, they're like, yeah, something's really going on.
We're gonna send you out to GI. Gi at University
of Michigan diagnosed her with this. It's called a cinephilic colitis.
It's EOC, which is a very rare type of things.
So it's like these white blood cells accumulate in your
guts and then essentially attack your gut just because and

(02:08):
so causes pain, it causes diarrhea, causes blood, it causes
like all of this stuff, and so the doc said, hey,
you know, just take her off breast milk and put
her on formula, the special formula, and we'll see how
she does. And things didn't get any better. So we've
been down at Cincinnati for the last couple of years

(02:28):
getting treatment down there, and they spoke to her again,
said no, we don't see any cenophils, but we see neutrophills,
which is indicative for IBD, which is early on to
irble bowel disease. And so they're treating her currently as
like a irrible bowel disease kiddo, so it would be
like crones or all sort of politis And so we've

(02:52):
just really struggled with developmentally delay issues. It was diagnosed
with autism just about a year ago. She's been in
intense therapies for all of that. Yeah, I mean it's
just formula. Oh my gosh. During COVID she got put
on this other formula now and it's like sixty bucks
a can, and it's.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Oh wow, my god.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, And so insurance wasn't covering it. So it was
just a big deal trying to get insurance to cover it.
And she was still considered failure to thrives. And now
she's got this YouTube, so we helped give her medications
in that and we do food trials through that and
you know, so she doesn't get dehydrated, she's sick, we
can put stuff through her tube. She had a seat

(03:34):
her first seizure. She's got a seizure disorder and had
her first seizure on an airplane. Oh no, and her sister,
so we had to do emergency landing. So they feel
like that was metabolic in nature. Just it's been a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
In addition to the formula, what are there? There's twelve
safe food she can eat and that's it.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
So she's got avocado, salmon, almond, peanuts, blueberries, mango, apple, coconut, and.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Hasavarut that's the extent.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Watermelons.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah, those foods does.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
She like for the most part?

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Is this going to be her whole life?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Though?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
These only these twelve foods?

Speaker 3 (04:13):
They're not sure. So we're we're supposed to be doing
food trials. We're supposed to try to get in. Their
goal is to have like one a month. But you know,
right now, we've been working on patty training since March,
and we've been working with constipation issues. So we're trying
to get done under control before we can do food challenges.
So it's just hard because like if she's sick, if

(04:34):
we have like a lot of family things going on
to where we just can't get it in, you know,
then we can't get We just have to time the
food trials perfectly so that we can say she's having
a reaction and it's not from an illness and it's
not from you know, a social you know issue of
her being too busy or you know, different things like that.

(04:56):
So yeah, so it's it's all about trialing. So what
if we have we had thirt so trials for the
for twenty twenty three and she only passed five.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Now despite all of this, I mean, she's got a
lot going on, and you guys as a family have
a lot going on.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
But what are some things that she likes? Like what
type of kid is she? Is?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
She super happy social, have any hobbies or anything like that.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
She dances, She dances every Wednesday night. Nice, So she
likes dance class. She loves playing with her She has
a six year old sister and they're very close. She's
very close with all of her sisters. But her and
Brinley are very close. They like to play barbies dance.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
So because she has sisters. So you have a five
year old, a fourteen year old, a sixteen year old,
and then Willow's three, yes, and is going to turn
is gonna have is it going to have a fourth
birthday on.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
The third of December?

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
All right?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Well do you know the day we leave for our
Jay's Juniors trip to Disney World all spends his pay
for our tenth year is the third of December? So

that takes away for.
